Nori: *rolls her eyes, mumbling something about baka kitsunes*

Tama: *grins* ^_^ I'll do the disclaimer tonight, `cause I'm so cool like that.

Nori: …you wish.

Tama: *releases the rabid polar bear on Nori again*

Nori: NOT AGAIN! *runs around in circles screaming*

Tama: I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho or any of its characters *cries* but I do own Kita and any other OCs that come into the fic later.

Eventually, Kita regretted telling Kurama that she was ok to travel. At first it wasn't that bad. The trail was rather smooth and it was still daylight. But within an hour, Kurama said that they would get to the temple faster if they left the trail and cut through the woods. Not thinking much of it, Kita agreed.

Boy, that was a mistake.

The forest became incredibly dense once they left the trail. Not only that, but it began to get steep and there were rocks everywhere. Kita tripped a few different times, but caught herself. She knew that if she fell on her shoulder, she would be in even more pain than she was before. Keeping this thought in the back of her mind, she always watched where she was going. Kurama didn't seem to have this problem. He navigated his way through the trees flawlessly. He didn't stumble once. Even though that fact made Kita just a tad bit jealous, it also added to his mystique. The fact that any guy could have that type of grace was astonishing. That reminded her how at the perfect time, he had come out of nowhere and saved her from her sure death.

…who was this guy?

Like always, Kita's wandering mind got her in trouble. Because she got distracted and wasn't watching where she was going, she ran face first into a tree and fell backwards, right on her back. Luckily, they weren't on that steep of a slope at that point, so she didn't roll down the hill far. Kurama, hearing the scene behind him, turned around, saw Kita on the ground, stunned, and just laughed.

Kita glared at the redhead. “What are you laughing at?” she asked as she sat up.

“I'm sorry,” he replied as her walked towards her and extended his hand to help her up. “I just thought you would have a little more…never mind.”

“What? I would have a little more what?” Kita asked, getting a little annoyed.

“Nothing,” Kurama chuckled and kept walking. Kita rolled her eyes and smirked. She knew he was going to say grace. Funny, wasn't it, that she was so focused on the subject of grace that hers went out the window. Oh, she would get him back for this. Smiling to herself, she continued to follow him through the woods.

The two traveled for another three hours, Kita guessed, before she finally asked him.

“Kurama, didn't you say that this temple was close by?” she groaned. She didn't mind the woods, it was just that they had been walking for at least six hours, and her feet were starting to really hurt. She could feel the blisters forming. She came to realize that Converse were not the best shoes for hiking.

“Yes,” Kurama responded simply. Kita waited for something more, but got nothing.

“Um, well, we've been walking for hours. When you said nearby, I thought you meant half an hour, tops. My feet are killing me,” she said. Kurama turned around.

“Don't worry, we'll be there soon,” he assured her, gave her a soft smile and kept walking. She just sighed and followed. Her good impression of this guy was beginning to change.

But, it turns out, he was right. It only took twenty more minutes for them to reach the temple, which was quite impressive. It was huge, and sat atop a big hill. Once again, Kita groaned when she realized that there was more climbing, as there were at least a thousand steps to climb. Once they reached the top, Kita never wanted to see another hill again.

“Wait her, Kita,” Kurama instructed her. Kita just nodded. Staying in one place for right now was completely fine with her. He left and went in through the front door, leaving it wide open. Kita could see him talking to an incredibly short woman with long pink pair and a wrinkled face. Once of Kita's strong points was her hearing, and she could very quietly hear what they were saying.

“Are you sure that's her?” the woman asked doubtfully.

“Yes, Genkai, I'm positive. It has to be,” Kurama responded.

“Alright, Kurama, if you say so. I'll get the others and meet you and the girl out front,” the woman said and walked away. Kita was just plain confused.

Kurama came back outside and Kita tried her best to look innocent, like she hadn't heard a thing.

“The others will be out in a minute,” he told her.

“Others?” Kita asked, puzzled. But Kurama didn't have time to explain. Out of the temple came the short woman and seven other people that she had never seen before. There were four guys and three girls. The girls and the guy with short brown hair looked peaceful and nice enough, but two of the guys, one with short black hair and the other with orange hair, looked like she was the first girl they had ever seen, and she suddenly wished that she had worn more than just shorts and a tank top. The most intimidating, however, was a rather short guy, around Kita's height, who wore a black cloak and black pants and a short sword on his belt. He looked like he wanted to kill her. And who wouldn't be intimidated by that?

All of them were quietly having their own conversations, and Kita picked up a few phrases here and there.

“Is that her?”

“She looks different than what I pictured her as.”

“She's too scrawny to be her.”

“Damn, she's hott!”

Kurama saw the look of utter confusion and fear on her face, and knew he needed to explain.

“Guys, stop,” he said rather forcefully. They all just looked at him. “I think we need to tell her what's going on and why she's here to begin with.”
