Ch.15
He didn't blame the familiar for wanting to be alone after everything that had occurred. He had no regrets for sending the fire demon back into the room, he felt very annoyed after the woman lied to him when he asked her an important question. If she wanted to tell stories to try to get out of doing what was necessary for the well being of Hiei and herself, Kurama wasn't going to be nice. He did not appreciate her thinking she could fool him. She should have known better.
Hiei was now talking with Mukuro, and Kurama went to search for Rhianon. He was curious to know what would happen to them, but attempting to coax information out of the shadowy demon would not be easy. First he had to find him, but luckily Rhianon found him instead.
"Are you searching for me fox spirit?"
Kurama turned around. The demon was there, partly concealed against the black wall.
"Actually yes, I want to ask you something."
"Ask."
"What will happen now that Hiei and the familiar have...bonded?"
The demon was silent then said," Whether or not they choose to continue what they have started will determine what will happen to the bond they have."
"Do you mean...it isn't permanent?"
The demon shook his head.
"I see," Kurama nodded," What does it take in order for it to be maintained?"
"Cooperation between the familiar and their demon."
Oh. That wasn't going to work at all, as far as Kurama knew they despised each other.
"Hmmm," He scratched his chin," Well, that certainly does pose a problem."
"They do not enjoy one another," The taller demon stated.
Kurama sighed," No, Most definitely not."
The demon bowed his head," If you will excuse me, Mukuro has requested my presence elsewhere."
"Of course."
Rhianon faded away leaving Kurama alone once more. The fox was almost tempted to eves drop on their conversation and see what he would discover. He knew the demon lords had plans other than the one they revealed to him. Kurama also deducted Rhianon played a very large part in their plans, and not just for an information source. He started to walk back to his room, perhaps Yusuke and the others had more insight on this.

'God I wish I'd just wake up already' Jordan thought. She watched the ice demon who hadn't moved since the last question she asked him. At least Hiei was more interesting, he would have snapped for staring at him for so long by now. Touya didn't seem to mind, or if it did bother him he wasn't showing it.
The woman sighed, the guy was like a marble statue. Even in the shadows he was pale and iridescent. A far cry different than Hiei's dark and fiery self.
"You don't say very much do you?"
"Should I...say more?"
Jordan shrugged. It was a rhetorical question anyway.
"Are you truly Hiei's familiar?," He asked.
"I don't know, I guess so. I still don't know what the hell I am..."
"They did not answer your questions?"
She shook her head," No, they did. It, well...it was kind of confusing. I don't know, maybe I'm just too dense to understand it."
"Dense?"
"Yeah, dense. Stupid, moronic, retarded. One who has a low level of intelligence," She said smiling.
"Oh."
He blinked, looked down, and seemed to be considering what she'd said.
"But if your intelligence is not low, why would you say it is?"
She sighed and rested her chin in her hand," It's normal in human society to make fun of yourself, it's called a negative self image. Most of the time it's meant as a joke though."
"I see."
He turned his blue eyes to her," Were you joking?"
She shrugged," I don't know."
"How can you not know?"
"Well, I...don't know."
He was silent then said," That does not make any sense."
Jordan laughed," Yeah, and most humans don't even *realize* that they don't make sense."
"It must be very confusing."
She smiled," Nah, you get use to it after awhile. Or if you can't handle it they send you to the funny farm."
"Funny farm?"
"A mental institution, funny farm is the slang term for it."
The man nodded. He was listening to her, but how much of it he would care to remember when he woke up was debatable. Jordan guessed the demon was as bored as she was.
"So, how long have you been able to control ice?"
"My entire life."
"Wow, must be something."
He shrugged looked away. Jordan bit her lip wondering what she could have said wrong. She was tempted to ask him but thought it best to keep out of this. A psychiatrist she was not.
"Have you...?"
"Huh?," She was surprised when the demon spoke before her.
He met eyes with her again," Have you ever wanted to be someone else?"
"Well, sure, everyone wishes to be different at some point. A person who's completely happy with who they are every day of the year is pretty rare."
The man turned his head up to the darkness, staring at it. She couldn't think of what he would find so interesting.
"You see something up there?"
He lowered his head back down," No, nothing."
"Alrighty."
Time went by and Jordan was still in the dream. She had switched sitting positions eight times, sang the words to an entire Bob Dylan song in her head, and named as many American presidents as she could. She glanced to her left, Touya was still there as well, and now he was also sitting. It was the longest dream she'd ever had.
She sighed," I can't figure out why *you* would be here right now and not Hiei."
Jordan stood up and walked closer until they were a few feet apart, then she squatted down.
"If I was in *his* head before, and he's my demon supposedly, then why would I be in yours?"
She studied his face. He had the nicest skin she'd ever seen. It was as though someone had covered him in shimmery white powder, it almost looked fake. In fact his hair was the same, except it was pale blue. The only thing *unordinary* about Hiei's appearance were his eyes. But this demon had him beat in that department too. Hiei's were a solid ruby red, but this demon's eyes were multi-colored. There was a thin ring of sea green around the outside of the iris, then a wider, slightly darker ring of aqua-blue. Near the pupil was a thin ring of silvery ice blue. But the oddest thing was that the ice blue had metallic reflections, almost as if the color actually had silver in it. If Jordan never came closer than three feet of him she never would have noticed it.
"My God," She whispered.
"Is something wrong?"
Jordan felt heat rise up her face. She had been so fascinated by them she forgot the demon knew she was staring.
"Err..no, I was just looking at your...eyes."
"Why?"
"Because, I've never seen ones like that."
"Oh."
He blinked and his eyes faded to a solid aqua-blue. The silver-blue ring disappeared.
"Hey, what'd you do?"
"I altered my appearance to look more human."
"Wha?," She took a few steps back. The shimmer in his skin was gone, now he just looked pale.
"What for?"
"Humans do not see demons as they truly are."
"Really, how come?"
"Because they can't," He shrugged.
"But you can see it, see the way we really look. And I didn't like it so I changed myself."
"Ok. But I don't see why you guys are so afraid of showing how you really look. If I was that unearthly I'd flaunt it."
He frowned, which was the first expression she'd seen on him," You are not one of us, you were not born this way. So you would never understand."
She shook her head," That's like a bad parent saying we can't criticize them because we don't have any children. The whole argument is moot."
"No, that is different. The people you are referring to are human. We are not."
Jordan shrugged and stood up," Alright, you win. I'll shut-up."
She turned to walk away, but was jerked back. The ice demon had a hold of her wrist.
Touya got up, so they were eye level.
"Do you feel that?," He asked her.
A numb sensation was creeping up her arm as if her blood had turned to ice water. Perhaps that wasn't such a bad analogy, it did feel frozen.
"Yeah." She said.
He let go," My touch can kill a normal human. They'll get hypothermia."
Jordan rubbed her arm," Yes, I see what you mean. That was cold."
He walked a few feet away," You are confusing. Your body is human yet your soul is not, it isn't possible to be human and in-human at the same time. I cannot be anything but a demon, so how it is that you can be anything but human?"
She held up her hands," Trust me, I am as clueless as you are. I would explain it if I could."
"Explain what?"
A different, and unfortunately very recognizable voice answered. Jordan whirled around to find Hiei leaning against the rock behind her. The ice demon was no where in sight, he'd vanished.
"When the hell did you show up?"
"I'd tell you but I doubt your simple mind would comprehend it."
Jordan laughed and shook her head," You're really something you know that sparky?"
"Ah, a new name for me. How long did it take you to think that clever word up?"
She glared at him," I can think of plenty other *words* to call you, but I'd just get more snide remarks for that too."
He smirked," We're learning I see. Very good."
She smirked back and gave him the double one-fingered salute.
Hiei arched his eyebrows at her and returned the geture with a very disturbing smile.
Jordan growled and stomped off, leaving the grinning fire demon alone.

Water reflected off the stone walls casting swirling glows on Anoril's face. The demon was ordered to retrieve the familiar after Freya had failed. He felt insulted by it, he was not Niko's personal assistant. He only had one master, and the water demon was not that one.
It would be impossible to find a way inside the place the familiar was now. There were far too many guards, all were added after Freya was caught. He silently cursed her for making his job that much more difficult.
"Guard!," He called.
One of the robed demons standing by the entrance to the room ran over to him.
"Give Niko the message that I am leaving for the demon realm."
The guard nodded and hurried off.
'Freya was too full of herself to see her errors. I will not be so careless. I *will* have the familiar to bring back to my master.'
"Hiei and Kurama," He whispered to himself," I will find your weaknesses, and use them."
