Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ The Sisters of Seasons ❯ The Spirit of Spring ( Chapter 8 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Haru's cries didn't fall on deaf ears, but there was nothing Kurama could do. The Rekai Tantei were ordered to leave the Realm of Seasons by Koenma after the sisters' fight. They left before the sun came up that day.

Summer passed calmly with the normal heat.

Bright golds, crimsons, and chilled winds filled autumn.

Winter was harsh and frozen to the core.

Spring....Spring's first day was today.

Spring only brought back hard memories of Haru, the girl he would never see again. Her sent was the same as when he stepped outside into the morning light. He though he heard his named called softly, but he dismissed the thought. He hadn't thought of much other than her in the past months. She had cried true tears of sadness for him. That meant a lot to him. He sighed and started his walk to the park to meet the others.

~~~~~~~~
"Now then, let's get started!" Haru rubbed her hands together with a grin on her face and blue jeans and a t-shirt on.
"We're going to be here all day, aren't we?" Fuyu was already irritated with the younger sister's antics from that morning. Well, it was either that or the ningen clothing they were both forced to wear. "It doesn't take an entire day to spread the power of a season over this place.
"That's because you just go around and kill everything for winter. Ever flower has to bloom on it's own time. Everything deserves my undivided attention."
Fuyu shook her head. "Aki could have come, but no, it just had to be me and the botanist."
"They'll be here! It's tradition that we all show up to celebrate the first day of a season." Haru began to examine the still dead looking plants and trees. "Talk about mass destruction."
"It's just plants!"
"But what you destroy I have to fix!"
"Whatever. Let's just get this over with."
"That's the spirit."
~~~~~~~~

"Kurama? Spirit World to Kurama!" Botan half-yelled while waving her hand in front of the kitsune's face.
"What?" He snapped back. "Yes?"
"You were in a daze. We though we lost you for a second there!" Yusuke gave one of his trademark goofy smiles.
"No, I was just thinking."

"That one!" a voice came from across the park. "Or maybe that one. Or maybe both? This is becoming complex...."
"Just leave everything high and dry. I would." another voice said.
"Well my job isn't to kill everything by freezing it."
"I don't kill it! I send everything into a peaceful state of hibernation."
"Please, just hurry so we can enjoy our day." one more voice.
"Okay....I pick....This one over here."
"Finally!"

"Do those voices sound farmilair to you guys?" Yusuke asked.
Everyone nodded. Kurama though his heart would come out of his chest it was beating so hard. There was a short scream and a playful laugh.

"Fuyu! You are so dead!" A figure lept over them with another close behind.
"Let the game begin!" Two more figures jumped overhead with the sun as a blinder, making it impossible to know who they were.

"Ummm....Urameshi, those were...." Kuwabara began.
"No kidding, 'genious'." Yusuke said absolutely annoyed with his friend's stupidity.
"But what would the sisters be doing here?" Kurama asked, heart thumping from being nervous.
"It's the first day of spring. On the first day of every new season, all four come to the Ningenkai." Botan explained.

Haru was laughing again as Aki tried to remove the ice from her hair. She had a red mark of frostbite on her nose and an irritated look on her face.
"Here. You're doing it the hard way." Natsu directed heat to the cold and it melted.
"Sorry, if I don't have heating powers." Aki grumbled, happy to have only wetness in her hair now.
"Just worry about the water later. Let's eat." Fuyu said, taking a bite of the burger.
"I never understood why you like ningen food." Aki turned to Haru. "And what do you think about this?"
"I'm rather enjoying myself." Haru replied. 'Though, I could have sworn I felt Kurama's ki.' She brushed off the thought and began eating with the others. She felt it again. They all finished eating and stood up in unison.
"Well, let's go have some fun."

~~~~~~~~~
"Kurama? Earth to Kurama!" Yusuke half yelled, waving his hand in front Kurama's face
"Hm? What is it?" Kurama asked, snapping out of yet another series of thoughts.
"What is it with you today? It's like you're in a different world."
"Oh! She got you!"
"Screw you! Take this!"
"Hey! Fuyu! You almost took my head off with that one!"
"You were in my way! Here! Try again!"
"Hey! Watch where you're aiming! We're not playing, you know!"
"Haru, shut it!"
"For God's sake, will you two stop fighting?!"
"Alright, works for me."
"Wait a second....I know how we can settle this! A one-on-one! First to three baskets wins!"
"If you'll stop hitting me!"
"Ummm....Urameshi....."
"Fool, you don't even have to say anything. Just leave them alone." Hiei said.
"Yeah, it's all said and done with." Yusuke added
~~~~~~~~~

"So there, I beat you fair and square." Haru said, throwing the basketball to the side. The sun was setting slowly behind them.
"Yeah, whatever." Fuyu was brushing off her defeat. "Have fun bringing on the season of love and shit like that."
"Thanks, I will." Anyone else would have taken it as an insult, but Haru knew better. "Ja ne!" And Haru disappeared with speed. "I will have fun with my season. I do love my job!"

Kurama pulled the bed sheets up to his chin and let out a sigh. It was hard being so close to Haru, but she seemed to be enjoyng herself without him. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable again. But he heard her voice that day. That made it even harder to ignore the fact that she was there. He was still tired, dispite his thoughs and fell fast asleep.

~~~~~~~~~
He was here. This was his ningen home. There was one window on the upper floor of the home, so I looked inside. It was dark, but I could see his sleeping form. I stepped inside to get a closer look. I sat on the edge of the bed and let my feet dangle to the side. He was muttering something that I couldn't understand in his sleep. It sounded like a distress call. He was trembling and drenched in sweat.
"Kurama? Are you alright?"
He squinted his eyes shut and whispered something again. Then, he whispered my name. I couldn't leave him like this.
"Kurama, wake up." I touch my hand to his cheek as gently as I could. "It's alright."
He seemed to relax and lean into my hand. I brushed a few stay hairs out of his face and sighed. He was beautiful. I smiled for the first time in a long time. It wasn't a fake smile that I used to be polite either. I removed my hand momentarily to reach into my pocket and grab a handkerchief. I began to wipe the small droplettes from his forehead and cheeks. He was....more pale than normal. Then it hit me. I smacked the palm of my hand onto my forehead. How could I have forgotten? With spring comes allergies, colds, and sometimes sickness and stupid human things like that. He began to whisper something before pulling the bed sheets over his head and softly saying, "Please, mother, I'm not feeling well today."
I laughed silently. "Not wanting to go to school, are we?"
"No, I don't." He was still asleep. It was an unconscious response.
Suddenly, a knock came on the door. I looked at the clock. '6? Already? Well, It's not like I arrived at midnight.'
"Suiichi? Are you awake? It's time to wake up for school!" I guessed it was his mother.
"I'll come back later." And I jumped out to the tree outside his window just as the door opened. I was amazed when the moron decided to go to that school! Baka! He wasn't well. I'd let him go....for now. I still have to finish spreading spring.
~~~~~~~~

Haru kept running and sighed. "Damn it!" she cursed. "It never takes this long!" She took another long leap into the air, dropping seeds carefully as she went. She stopped, seeing Kurama in a building through a window. "Then again....I always have been a trouble-maker." She jumped into a closer tree and looked closer. She clamped a hand over her mouth to keep from bursting out in laughter. "Botany!" The teacher stood in the front of the class with various plants. She could tell Kurama was BORED OUT OF HIS MIND! (Aren't we all during school?) "Time for a tad of fun...."

~~~~~~~~
"Now, let's continue." the teacher said.
"Ummm.....Sensei....WHOA! What the hell is that?!" A student jumped out of his seat, knocking it over in the process. The entire class went into an uproar when the plants sprouted madly. Kurama was alerted by the sudden outburst. The teached backed off and watch as the plants kept growing and formed.....a heart.
"That's....never happened before."
Kurama could have sworn he heard a voice from outside, "Am I clever or what?" followed by a small fit of laughter. "Now for what's left of the park."
"Ummm.....well....Class dismissed!" All of the students jumped up from their seats and ran out the door, including Kurama. He wanted to chase after her. He didn't want to lose her. But when he couldn't sense her ki, he slowed down. He took his normal way home. It was a walk through the park. He sighed. She had been in his bedroom lastnight, too. He couldn't go in there anymore. Her scent filled it, the scent of spring itself. He wasn't going to let her run.
~~~~~~~~

I leaned back, balancing my light weight on the tree branch. Making every flower in the Ningenkai bloom was hard work, and I was finally feeling the effects of it.
"Hey, cutie." Damn. It took me this long to notice the ningen boys below me? I was out of it. "Whatcha doin' up there? Maybe you should come down and spend some time with us."
"Not even in your dreams."
"Oh? Really?"
"Yes really."
"I beg to differ...." I felt one of them grab my wrist and pull me off of the branch and to the ground with a 'thud'.
"Bakayaro! Back off! I am NOT in the mood!" Okay....did he hear a word I just said? Excuse me....YELLED!
He smirked and the bastard hit me!
"What the hell was that for?!" I jumped to my feet and got in his face.
"Bitches shouldn't fight back."
"Why you BAKAYARO NINGEN LECHER!!!!" I used the last bit of my strength to knock the dimwit on his ass. I smirked. He wouldn't be able to stand for a while. The rest just stared at me for a second before running off. I jumped back into the tree I had claimed for myself and got comfortable once again.
"Are you alright?" I barely heard it. I was half-asleep after all.
"Hm? No, I'm fine."
"Are you sure? You look very tired." This time, I jumped out of my seat and hit the ground with another 'thud'.
"Ow. People seem to like getting me out of my trees today."
There was a light laugh. (A/N: Okay, if you haven't noticed I never use the word 'chuckle'. It sounds....well, BAD. I hate it. Don't mean to discriminate.) It was then that I looked up.
"K-Kurama?"
He nodded slowly.
Damn it! Now I was feeling guilty! Even if I did hit him I still hated the feeling!
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you."
"No, it's fine, really. Wait, why the hell are you apollogizing to ME?"
"Well, I guess I could thank you."
My mouth dropped. "Okay, you lost me after 'sorry'."
"I just haven't seen you for so long. I'm just glad that you're here." Feeling extremely guilty over here! (Haru: *Stares at reader* Damn guilty! Stupid boy! Don't you make me feel guily too!) "And you're looking pale. You don't look too well."
I shook my head. "You try making every plant in the Ningenkai bloom overnight. I'm kinda tired."
"Then you should sit down or get some rest at least."
"No, you need it more. You're still sick, remember? And you're more pale than I'll ever be."
"I...."
"Sit." I pointed to a patch of grass by he tree I had just fallen out of. He obeyed and I followed, sitting next to him. He stared at me, probably not knowing what was going to happen. "Just hold still." I put both hands on his cheeks. I felt him tense and rubbed my thumb gently. "Don't be so nervous. You're doing it again." He relaxed a bit. There was no fancy light, I was simply making him feel better. Damn ningen illnesses. I removed my hands and smiled. "There. Feeling better?"
"Yes, thank you."
I blinked a few times, trying to clear my vision. That was definatly the last bit of power I could muster.
"Haru, can you stand?" Why did he even ask? I knew I couldn't, and I thought he knew.
I shook my head slowly. "But I'll be fine. You don't have to worry."
"But I do. I've been worried about you this entire time. Whenever you're not in my sight, I worry."
I could feel myself blushing. He put one arm around my waist and the other around my shoulders, drawing me into an embrace.
"But now that you're here, I'll never let go."
