Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Trapped between two girls. ❯ Why us...? ( Chapter 23 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Her heart pounded within her chest as she pulled the covers over the unconscious body that was now laying in the safe comfort of a bed.
`How could this have happened? If I had stayed this could have been me in this bed…or me not even here at all…I'm lucky he wasn't killed and the demon came after me, if that had happened then I know I would never be able to forgive myself. But at least now…there is a chance that I will…' Kitty allowed herself to sigh as she sat on the edge of the bed and looked Kurama over.
His face was so peaceful looking, though it was slightly flushed from the blood loss that he had experienced earlier that night. Kitty looked at the blood that was still smeared on his face for a few minuets before snapping herself to reality. When she was fully there, well as fully as she was going to at this moment, she slowly rose to her feet and dragged them across the soft-carpeted floor all the way to the bathroom where she found a small washcloth.
“It's he least that I can do for him until I get my strength back enough to heal him…” Her words were like a soft breeze, so light and quite, barely audible, as she wet the cloth in warm water and then headed back to Kurama's bedside.
She sat down and immediately started to lightly dab at the now dried blood on his face; it came off with ease like paint on an old house that was chipping off in sheets. When she was finished she looked his face over to make sure that she had gotten all of the dried up red on his face, though while looking his face over, she noticed that her eyes began to get a mind of their own and traveled down to his bare, nicely toned chest.
`Wow I never really noticed that…' Kitty thought with a small blush as she found that she wasn't able to look away despite how much she tried. All of her attempts proved to be futile.
Kurama sighed lightly in his sleep, which was the only thing that truly brought her eyes back away from his chest, though she didn't dare look any lower then that because of the reminder of that night; the bandaged that were already blood stained and the gash that was concealed beneath them.
A little voice within her head was telling her to look beneath the bandages just a little bit down more, past the wound but she refused to, trying to convince herself that she doesn't feel that way about him.
`I can't have feelings for him…He can't feel that way about me, no one can…' She thought to herself as she got up and walked back to the bathroom to put the cloth away.
Shortly she returned and pulled up the nearest chair in his room. Kitty put it as close as she could to the bedside and leaned it against the wall. She sat there like that, in silence, playing everything over and over in her head; the demon, running to try and save Kurama, talking and then being so happy that he was all right until it her happiness was taken away from her. She couldn't get the image of Kurama's unconscious body sprawled out on the floor and finally, she feel into a deep sleep with that image haunting ever inch of her mind.
He felt himself concealed by warmth from the waist down and, as in instinct, he pulls up a blanket that was soft to his touch. When the blanket was pulled fully up he could feel himself instantly start to get warmer.
`I'm alright…' Kurama thought to himself as his eyes slowly opened and he gazed up to see the ceiling of his own room, a familiar sight to his own relief and yet he could hear a faint sound from around him, thought he shrugged it off. He looked around with his eyes and then started to move his head not wanting to more much more of his body incase he would cause himself more pain then what he already felt in his stomach. He instantly recognized his room and then set eyes a Kitty, still sleeping beside him leaning against the wall behind her. There was a look of distress on her face and he now realized what had woken her up and drawn his attention to her, she was whimpering slightly.
`I wonder what's wrong…' slowly, and a bit painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow and reached over shaking her lightly. Directly after he had started shaking her, she awoke, her eyes snapped open like she was startled, and her breathing was a bit off but she looked at him. As her eyes lay upon his face, they showed relief and she forced a smile on her face.
“H-hello Kurama…” She said and her voice sounded relieved yet at the exactly same moment it sounded angry and sad.
`What's wrong with her…' His face showed confusion for a split second but her succeeded in covering it up as Kitty gently pushed him back down to lie on the bed.
“You need your rest…” She muttered but Kurama only slowly sat up fully in bed and looked at her.
“No I'm fine…” He said with a warm, reassuring smile towards her. She looked at him in a stern manner.
“Nope…you are going to rest whether you like it or not…” She stated in a firm, caring motherly voice trying to hide her guilt. It seemed to be eating at her and it was getting more and more difficult to keep her happy mask on but she managed. Kurama piercing green eyes stared at hers; they were so intense against her eyes that it sent a shiver down her spine.
“I'm fine…” He said in an oh so familiar stern voice that had just come from Kitty. They stared at each other like that until Kitty couldn't take it and she turned away.
“Fine I can't make you…but at least rest a little…” she said with a small smile and watched as Kurama moved and stood out of bed a bit shakily. Kitty noticed and walked over lightly holding onto his arm and he leaned on her a bit.
“Thank you.” Kurama whispered and she only nodded her head leading him out into the living room where he carefully sat down on the couch.
“There, anything that I can get you?” Kitty asked with a small, childish like grin and only get a headshake as a response.
“Okie dokie…” She said and sat down next to him. The remote now in hand, she reached flipped on the screen and started to channel surf.
“Do you think that people know that there is nothing on?” She asked still looking through and had been for the last 5 minuets. Kurama was having a bit of difficulty staying seated up right; the pain in his stomach from straining his muscles was already starting to get to him thought he was resting his entire back against the cushion.
“No, I suppose they don't…” He replied with a small smile towards Kitty who was now looking at him because he had moved in his spot for the fifth time in the five minuets he has been seated.
“You alright? Well you know what I mean…” Kitty gazed down at his wound and then looked back at him as he looked at his own wound.
“Yes, I just can't seem t get in a position that won't put my in further pain.” He stated simply and Kitty stopped at a random cartoon channel.
“I told you that you should have stayed laying down.”
Kurama didn't reply with words only a look at that said that she was right.
`It is a little too late for that by now, I don't think that standing up is the smartest of moves at this moment.' After a while, however, it was just starting to get more and more painful until he looked at Kitty, and, without asking, moved and laid his head down in her lap and faced the TV.
Kitty's muscles tensed a bit as she looked down at the boy's head but didn't make a movement to protest in any manner, but instead she let him rest there and began to watch the comedy cartoon that was playing on the TV.
“Comfy?” She asked randomly in the middle of the show so break the silence that was hanging around them.
“Actually, I am…” His voice sounded deeper, as though it were another person's voice and not Kurama's. This registered in her mind and only reminded her of the demon that had come earlier.
“What was that?” Kitty titled her head and looked down at Kurama who still had his head lightly resting in her lap.
Kurama cleared his throat a bit before he repeated what he said.
“Oh…that's good then…” So they watched the television and in the mists of it all Kitty had subconsciously began to stroke Kurama's hair, the silkiness of it all just irresistible to her.
After about an hour of still watching TV they had both relaxed and were laughing at the sight before them, well Kitty was laughing more and Kurama merely chuckled lightly.
Though, in the middle of the show, Kitty got a mental phone call that she wishes she could have lived without.
`Onna, get to the Detectives house now.' Hiei's cold, emotionless voice came to her mind and she looked away from the TV to the wall.
`Why?'
`It's your friend, seems they are after the both of you.' And that was all that was said before the mental link was closed. Instantly she tensed and stopped moving looking down at Kurama.
“So you think you are able to run, at the least walk?” She asked with worry clearly in her eyes.
