A vampire glanced around nervously. “Where are you mortal?” He called, his voice shaky. A few blocks away, the Eiffel tower stood.
“For a vampire, you sure are stupid.” A voice whispered in his ear before the mystery person stabbed a wooden stake through his back. “I'm not a normal mortal.”
There stood a girl with mid-back length, black hair and braided purple ear tails to her waist. Her ear tails held the rest of her hair up into a ponytail.
She wore a black shirt with one long sleeve, connected to a leather racing glove by a zipper. The other sleeve came down to her elbow, the rest was ripped and tattered fishnets. Over it, she wore a worn out, faded, sleeveless trench coat. Her slender fingers were covered in rings, almost right up to her long, black, claw-like fingernails.
Her pants were baggy, held up by a belt almost made entirely out of zippers. She topped off her outfit with army boots covered in zippers and buckles, and a large Pentacle hanging around her neck.
Her green and yellow eyes watched as the vampire turned to dust and blew away in the soft wind.
Suddenly, the presence of another immortal caught her senses, but this one, she smiled warmly for. “Syra! Long time no see!”
Syra stepped out of the shadows. “Hunter!” They embraced and parted, smiling. “I grew tired of telepathic conversations and we have a mission.” Syra informed her friend, her face growing grave. “We have to kill Hiei.”
Hunter's explosion eyes widened. “You told them?” She asked her immortal friend. Syra shook her head. “You are the only one who knows, still.” “Not even Kurama?”
Syra glared. “Of course not Kurama! If he was to know, he would tell Koenma to take me off the mission. He's not ignorant about the vampire laws.”
Hunter nodded slightly. “Whatever, let's just get to Tokyo. Hiei'll-“ “The nights still young! Let's catch up!” Syra said, dragging her good friend out of the alley. “I haven't been in Paris for over a century!”
“But Syra! Isn't revenge more important?”
Syra spun around glaring slightly. “Not as important as friendship.” Hunter imitated Syra's glare, mocking her friend. “Now don't go all mushy gushy on me, save that crap for Kurama.”
Syra chuckled, gripping Hunter's arm tighter. “Let's go…”
/Back in Tokyo/
Keiko was typing furiously on the computer. “Your plan's not going to work, she says. I swear! I'll kill her in her sleep!” She muttered angrily. Tears welled up in her eyes, remembering that horrible night eight years ago.
/Flashback/
Keiko came home from school, happier than ever. Yusuke had shown up for school that day, and that was saying something. She had thought nothing could dampen her spirits.
But that evening, while they ate dinner, a group of vampires raided her house. Keiko's parents hid her under their bed and tried to fight the vampires off. Keiko fainted with anxiety, only to wake up face-to-face with her fathers dismembered head. The rest of her parents remains were under the bed with her, ripped and torn away from their torso's.
That day, her screams were heard at least a mile away. She grew a hatred towards vampires, vowing to kill every single one.
/End Flashback/
“Keiko?” Keiko turned her head to her right to see a very concerned Yusuke. “You okay?” He asked, putting his army around her shoulders. “I'm fine.” She said, blinking away her tears.
Yusuke nodded and stood up. “I'm gonna go get a soda.” He said walking out of the small study.
“I'm home at last!” Came a loud, cheerful voice, following what suspiciously sounded like a door being kicked down.
Keiko slammed her face down on the keyboard. “Hello Hunter!” Keiko replied with annoyance.
“No need to screw up your already ugly face on my account! Don't want to end up like Kuwabara! Talkn' about my punching bag, where is he?” Hunter asked as she ran over to her favourite couch with inhuman speed.
Keiko stared at Hunter, surprised. “You didn't hear? He got killed on a mission. He was mauled by a werewolf.” She said sadly, ignoring the reddening pain in her face.
Hunter was shocked. “Of course I didn't know! I've been in Paris the last three years!” She yelled defensively.
Koenma and the others walked into the study and settled in various places. “I'll brief you on the situation.” Koenma said, leaning against the back of his huge office chair.
As he talked, Hunter snuck glances at Syra, who was glaring down at her gold and ruby bracelet she always wore as a `reminder'. Kurama would ask her where she got it sometimes and she would just say “An old friend.” and walk away.
Hunter never got how he had enough patience to stick with Syra for so long. It seemed the first they met seven years before they hit it off.
“So our mission is search and destroy? What else is new?” Hunter asked, interrupting Koenma's annoyingly long `briefing'.
Koenma glared at her. Hunter always burst his bubble when he tried to be authoritative. Always.
“I don't appreciate your attitude, Miss Bradley.” He growled through gritted teeth.
“Like I said, what else is new? And don't call me Miss Bradley. It makes me seem old…” Hunter said, her voice dripping with boredom.
“Well you technically are older than all of us…except for Syra.” Keiko shot at her.
“ Well I look ten years younger than you, so shut up. I'm only older because I accidentally drank some vampire blood when I was seventeen. Besides, I'm only thirty-four.” Hunter muttered the last sentence.
“Did you just say I look old?” Keiko yelled, standing up defiantly. “Want me to repeat it?” Hunter replied, looking up at the fuming girl.
“Shut up! Both of you! We have a bigger crisis on out hands!” Kurama yelled, finally losing his cool. “Go Kurama.” Syra muttered, staring at her nails again.
“When are we outta here?” Botan asked, jumping down from the filing cabinet where she was perched. “I have an itch for kicking vampire ass!” She added, stretching like a cat.
“Now.” Syra said, walking to the door. “Let's roll.”
“But the plan-“ “Keiko! The plan is to listen to me and do as I say.”
With that, Syra continued out the door, leaving a very pissed of Keiko behind.
“Let's get our weapons.” Kurama said, following suit.
