"Kuso." Yusuke muttered. Things were just not going his way. Why the hell did this goddamn youkai have to attack now? He knew his cousin would kill him if he was late. He growled. It wasn't that the youkai was hard to beat or anything. It's just that he was running late. He forgot that his cousin was in town.

With a quick punch he sent the youkai crashing to the ground. He grinned. Maybe he wouldn't bet hat late. He pointed his index finger at the youkai and concentrated his ki, making the tip glow a warm light blue. That youkai was finnished. He smiled at the youkai and released the energy.

He walked away after tossing the youkai's corpse into the forest. "Che." He muttered after glancing at his watch.

~*~

Akina sighed, her cousin was supposed to pick her up an hour ago. Not that she suspected him to be on time or anything. She new better then that. Her cousin was never on time for anything. He'd always come up with these lame excuses. "Oh I was in school, sorry." She knew that was a load of crap. He probally only spent three hours a week in school. Four tops.

She sat down on the bench outside of the train station, her long black hair was blowing in the wind. She muttered something as she pulled an elastic out of her pocket and tied it up so it would stop blowing in her face. She began to scan the crowd for her cousin once again.

She finally spotted him walking through the crowd. He didn't look amused, in fact he looked like he would rather be somewhere else. His expression changed when he spotted her though.

Yusuke looked at her. She did look different. But then again, it had been a year since he last saw her. He lavender eyes were still soft and full of care. She was wearing a plain white shirt and a short black skirt.

Yusuke himself didn't look that much different. But he did look older. He was wearing a pair of jeans and a blue T-shirt, his hair slicked back in its usual style. But his chocolate brown eyes looked different. Almost like he had seen death itself. But then, he was hit by that car. "You're late." She muttered.

"Uh...traffic problems." He muttered. It wasn't a complete lie. The youkai did tie up traffic for a little while...he was just glad that no one really saw it.

"Whatever Yusuke." She said with a sigh.

"So how've things been going?"

"Okay I guess. I'm just still a little shook up about the accident and stuff." She answered. She hadn't come to visit Yusuke this time like she normally did every summer. This time she was there for good because a few days earlier, her parents had died in a plane crash.

"I kinda expected you to be. Come on let's get going." He said turning to walk away.

"So, your not gonna be nice and carry some of my stuff?" She asked.

Yusuke sighed. "I swear, you seem to get more suitcases every year."

"Well, this time I have all my clothes and all my other suff with me." She answered

"Is that a cat?" Yusuke asked looking at the kennel she was carrying

"Hai. Isn't he kawaii." She said taking the pure black cat out of it's kennel. "Hey Kuroi. Say hi to Yusuke-kun."

The kitten mewed softly and looked up at Yusuke curiously.

Yusuke looked at it for a second then turned his attention back to his cousin. "I've gotta friend who's just gonna love you." He muttered.

"Why's that?" Akina asked curiously.

"I don't know, he's got some kind of weird cat fetish or something." Yusuke answered.

Akina frowned. "I really didn't need to know that."

"You asked."

"Hai but you really didn't need to word it as a 'Cat fetish' you know." She said rolling her eyes.

"Whatever." Yusuke muttered.

"Let's just go, I don't want to stand around in a train station all day. Like I have been for the

past hour or so."

Yusuke just snorted and picked up a couple of her suitcases, waiting for his cousin to follow.

~*~

They arrived at Yusuke's apartment building in a little over ten minutes. "Oi Kaa-san! I'm home and I've got Akina with me." There was no answer and Yusuke went to see if she was somewhere in the house.

While Yusuke was doing this, Akina took her things to the guest room, which is where she normally stayed. Of course it wasn't really a guest room anymore. It was hers now.

She walked into the room and turned on the light switch. She starred at the blank walls for a minute. Normally the white walls didn't bother her, but she was stuck in this room for a couple years. Not just a week this time. She would have to set aside some money to buy paint. She could even force Yusuke to paint it for her. She laughed lightly at the thought of her cousin actually doing work.

"What's so funny?" Yusuke asked standing in the doorway.

"Oh nothing."

Yusuke gave her a funny look but then shook it off. "Yeah, so Kaa-san must've took off again. I told her you were comming today, but I guess she must of forgotten."

"It's not a big deal, I'm just happy that you actually remembered to pick me up this time."

Yusuke glared at her. "ONE TIME! AND YOU KEEP BUGGING ME ABOUT IT!"

"I wouldn't have to bug you about it if you hadn't forgotten about me."

Yusuke rolled his eyes. "Whatever."

"Now get over here and help me unpack." Akina said with a smile as she sat Kuro down on the bed.

"How come I get stuck doing this every year?"

"Because you do. Now grab a suitcase and start emptying it. And be careful, I have a lot

of valuable stuff in there."

"I say you sell it all then buy yourself your own house."

Akina glared at him. "Start unpacking."

~*~

It took the two of them at least two hours two finnish everything. Of course, Yusuke's complaining didn't help too much.

"I'll go make something to eat." Akina said, heading towards the kitchen.

"Oh yeah, I forgot that whenever you were here I didn't have to search the whole house to find something edible."

"Then you should teach yourself to cook."

"Don't have to now that your here."

Akina sighed. He was way too lazy sometimes, it really got annoying. But she had gotten used to it.

"So when do I get to meet your friends?" she asked her cousin.

"They never come around here much. Not unless it's really important." Yusuke answered.

"What about Keiko-chan? Are you two still going out?"

"We never were going out." Yusuke muttered.

"Meaning that you are."

"Just cook something already. I'm hungry."

"Okay, whatever." She said as she began to pull food out of the cuboards.

There was a knock on the door and Akina looked over to her cousin, who was leaning back into a chair. "You're not going to get that are you." She muttered.

"Nah, don't really feel like it."

Akina sighed and opened the door.

"Who are you?" Came the voice when she opened it.

Akina looked at the speaker, he was rather tall, at least 6', and had orange hair. "I'm Yusuke's cousin, Urameshi Akina."

"Are you really his cousin? Wow. You do kinda look like him. But you are really good looking." He said with a goofy smile.

"Um...Arigatou." Akina said sounding a little freaked out.

"Oi, Kuwabara. Stop flirting with my cousin. What about Yukina?"

Kuwabara was still wearing that goofy smile when he happily said "Yukina-chan!"

Yusuke rolled his eyes. "Just get in here before you scare away the neighbours."

"Is he one of your friends Yusuke?" Akina asked.

Yusuke shrugged. "If you could call him a friend."

"I'm Kuwabara Kazuma."

"So what did you need Kuwabara?" Yusuke asked before Akina could say anything.

"Well I came to talk about your latest mission, I think I may of figured something out. But uh, I guess we really can't talk about it with her here." Akina blinked in confusion.

"No, Talk to me tomorrow or something." Yusuke said with a yawn.

"Would you like anything to eat Kuwabara-san? I just finnished making dinner."

"Oh, uh, arigatou."

"No problem." Akina answered with a small smile.

Kuwabara looked down when he felt something brush against his leg. He spotted Kuro and picked him up practically squeezing him to death. "Hey Urameshi, you never told me you had a cat."

"I don't, it's Akina's."

"His name is Kuroi, Yusuke, not it." Akina said taking the kitten from Kuwabara.

"Yeah, come find me when I actually care."

"Oh shutup I swear, you're probally one of the most annoying guys I've ever met."

"Good." Yusuke muttered.

"Just come eat."

"Gladly!" Yusuke said jumping up and running to the kitchen.

Akina sighed and then followed.

She sat down at the table and handed the two males each a bowl.

"Ramen?" Yusuke asked. "Normally you go out of your way to cook things and you make Ramen?"

"I was lazy." She replied with a shrug.

"Alright I'll eat it, but I get something special tomorrow." Yusuke said with a smirk.

"Okay fine, But only if Oba-san is back."

"Oh come on! You know how small the chances of that are!"

"Yup. But I stand by what I said. You only get something special if Oba-san's back."

"Fine." Yusuke muttered.

Kuwabara watched in scilence, but finally spoke. "You know Urameshi, you should be nicer to girls."

"What is that part of your code?" Yusuke asked rolling his eyes

"Hai." Kuwabara answered.

"Whatever." Yusuke muttered. "Besides. Akina's family, I don't gotta be nice to her."

This earned himself a glare from his cousin. "Wow, arigatou Yusuke." She said dully.

"Anytime." Yusuke answered with a large grin as he began to eat.

Akina rolled her eyes and half ate, half watched Yusuke eat. He was, as usual, done in record time.

"Yusuke, did you actually taste any of that?"

Yusuke thought for a moment. "Uh, nope." (a/n ...I just realized what I said...Yusuke THOUGHT!?!?!*shocked look*)

Akina rolled her eyes again as she went back to eating. Kuwabara had also finnished and was getting up to leave.

"Later Urameshi. See ya Akina-san." He said while walking out the door.

Akina shut it behind him. "He didn't seem that bad."

"Kuwabara's got that code, I guess he's an okay guy, but he's extremely stupid."

"Yusuke!"

"Well it's true. The next time you see him, ask him a complicated math problem."

"I'd like to see you answer one." Akina said.

"Nah, not in the mood."

Akina rolled her eyes. "Speaking of Math, I have to get some stuff for school."

"Yeah, but your in high school, wouldn't you need to take some sort of enterance exam or something?" Yusuke asked.

"Nope, I was already in the top school back home. The school I applied here for took a look at my marks and agreed to let me enter."

"Whatever." Yusuke said with a yawn.

Akina sighed. "I'm going to bed. Oh, and set aside a time to help me paint my room." She said.

"You're kidding right?"

"No actually."

Yusuke grumbled something as he walked to his room, and Akina to hers.

~*~

Akina entered her room and sat down on the bed, followed by Kuroi who curled up beside her. A tear rolled down her cheek as she remembered her parents. The way she had waited for them to return from their trip to Europe. But they never did.

She still remembered the call from the police telling her what had happened. The way she had broken down, much like she had now.

Tears poured down her face as Kuroi nuzzled her, taking note of his masters pain. Akina stroked him behind the ears, remembering her parents, and how close they had always been. She remembered the exact words of the caller, telling her what had happened.

"The plane your parents we're on crashed in Eastren Europe. They didn't make it. Gomen nasai."

She was crying before he had even finnished the sentance. She had loved her parents so dearly. And now they were gone. She loved the idea of going to live with her Oba-san. But she had to face it. Atsuko was rarely ever home.

She laid down on the bed, Kuroi still beside her, as if he was trying to comfort her, as she cried herself to sleep.

~*~

She awoke the next early the next morning by instint. It was like she had a built in alarm clock or something. She was never late from school. Never. She always awoke an hour and a half before to allow herself time to get ready.

She exited her room and walked towards the kitchen, and poured some food into Kuro's dish, which had been placed there the previous night.

She was debating wether or not to wake Yusuke. It would be funny to see him awake this early, but then again, she valued her life. She finally decided to let him sleep. For a little while anyway.

She through together something for breakfast and sat down and ate in scilence, except for the crunch of Kuroi eating his food.

She finnished eating and put the dishes away. She looked at the rest of the kitchen. It was filthy, dishes everywhere and empty alcohol bottles sitting all over the counters. She loved her Oba-san dearly. But she really had to stop drinking.

She shook her head then left to take a shower. She entered the small bathroom and turned on the shower, waiting for the water to heat up. She stepped into the warm water, washing away all her troubles with it. Warm showers always made her feel better. She didn't know why, but the warm water would always cheer her up.

She stepped out of the shower and wrapped herself in a towel. Drying off her body, she took a look at the uniform she had set beside her. It was a bright red skirt with a matching shirt. She shrugged. It wasn't that bad, better then the purple one she had to wear at her other school. She hated purple.

She dried her hair off and put the uniform on. She exited the room while running a brush through her hair. She glanced at the clock in the hallway with a smirk. Time to wake up Yusuke.

She opened the door to her cousins room and threw the hairbrush at him. He instantly jumped up.

"GYAH KEIKO GOMEN NASAI!!!! I DIDN'T MEAN IT!!!!!! ...Wait what did I do?" He blinked and looked around the room spotting his cousin. "Oh." He grumbled. "It's you."

"Ohayou to you too Yusuke." Akina said with a sweet smile.

Yusuke glared at her. "I don't want to go to school." He muttered. He glanced at the clock. "And you got me up a whole 15 minutes before Keiko normally does."

"Live with it. And you're going to school."

"Nuh uh."

"Quit being so stubborn! You're going to school wether you like it or not! Now get ready!"

"Fine." Yusuke muttered, knowing she would drag him all the way to school if she had to. She was way to much like Keiko. It was annoying.

Akina exited her cousins room and walked to the kitchen, deciding to clean it up. She began to gather up all the empty alcohal bottles and put them in a bag. She was just finnished doing this when the door opened.

She looked over at the door and saw Keiko. "Keiko-chan! Ohayou!" She said with a smile.

"Oh, Akina-chan! I forgot you were here! I guess I really didn't have to come."

"That's okay. It's been a while since I've seen you anyway."

Keiko walked over and started to help Akina clean the kitchen. "So how are you doing anyway. Yusuke told me about what happend."

Akina shrugged. "It was a really big shock at first. But I've learned to live with it." 'A little' She added to herself. She looked over as Yusuke walked into the kitchen muttering something to himself.

"You know Yusuke, it's not good to talk to yourself. People might think your crazy."

"Oh shutup."

"So Yusuke. Are you going to have fun at school today?" Akina asked with a smirk.

"Would you just leave me alone!?"

"Don't feel like it." Akina answered. Keiko smiled as she continued to wash the dishes.

"Anyway, I've gotta go. I'm supposed to be at school a little early because it's my first day."

"Okay Akina-chan, I guess I'll see you after school or something. I'll come over and we can talk for a while. Is that okay with you?" Keiko asked.

"Hai!" Akina answered with a smile. "Ja ne!" She said while walking out the door.

Kuroi= Black (I thought it would suit the name of a black cat^^' It may be kinda plain but ya...)

-san= Mr, Ms, or Miss. Used for someone you are not framiliar with.

Notes:

Some of you may be saying things like "Doesn't Yusuke live in a house? Not an apartment? Well just in case you are saying that I would just like to remind you that Yusukes house was set on fire (I think it was episode four but don't quote me on that) And after that he and Atsuko moved to an apartment.

In Japan people introduce themselves last name then first name. Kinda backwards from here, but that's just to clear up any questions.

In Japan, students have to take exams to determine what high school they will go into. It's kinda like appplying for a collage here, you take the exam, and if your marks are good enough, your accepted. Kinda sucks. Oh, and a note, High school is NOT required in Japan. But mostly all still go because of the pressures of doing well.

Oh and by the way. Here are the stats I made up for Akina it took me a few hours to get this stupid thing done so you better flippin appreciate it -_-' >.<

Quote of the chapter:
