Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Untitled Sequel ❯ A Day with Yusuke ( Chapter 12 )
Yusuke crumpled up the paper and tossed it over his shoulder, then entered his house and went into his room. He sat on the bed and looked out the window. Then he buried his face into the pillow and yelled as loud as he could. When he couldn’t yell anymore, he sat up. That had made him feel better, strangely enough. He shrugged and went into the kitchen to find some ice-cream to eat and try and forget what had happened.
Yusuke didn’t sleep that well that night. He kept on thinking about what Sensui was going to do to Koenma. After what seemed like forever, it was morning, and he anxiously paced around his room.
He heard a soft ‘thud’ and looked around. Koenma had appeared on the bed. He looked terrible. His clothes were ripped in some places, and some blood was coming through his clothes. He was curled up. It seemed like he was trying to defend himself before he fell unconscious. He had bruises on his face, and his lip was bleeding.
Yusuke felt his anger flare at Sensui and the Toguro brothers. How could they have done this? He walked over and brushed a hand over Koenma’s cheek. Koenma flinched away from the touch.
Yusuke got a washcloth and wiped away all the blood he could see. He tried to pull Koenma’s arm away from his chest, but Koenma whimpered and curled up tighter.
Yusuke sighed. He shook Koenma’s shoulder. “C’mon, wake up.”
Koenma shook his head. Yusuke sighed again.
“It’s just me, Koenma. Yusuke. Remember?”
“Yusuke?” Koenma opened his eyes. When he saw Yusuke, he slowly sat up.
They stared at each other for a few seconds, then Koenma started crying and wrapped his arms around Yusuke. Yusuke smiled gently.
“It’s alright, Koenma. You’re away from them.”
Koenma nodded, then buried his face into his knees. “Yusuke…” he trailed off, becoming silent.
“Where’s Botan?” he asked after a while. Yusuke thought for a moment.
“I’m not sure, but I can call her.”
“Do it then.”
Yusuke took out the ‘compact’ and opened it. After a few moments of static, Botan’s face appeared on the screen.
“Yes, Yusuke?”
“Koenma’s here, at my place. I don’t think he’s fine… could you come over?”
“Sure, Yusuke. I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
“Thanks Botan.” Yusuke closed the compact.
He turned to Koenma. “Now explain to me why we need Botan.”
“I want her to heal my shoulder,” Koenma replied. “I’m surprised I didn’t get worse wounds. Toguro is very strong.”
Yusuke nodded. He’d battled Toguro when the objective was to kill, but he bet it still really hurt.
Botan entered the room about thirty seconds later.
“Koenma! What happened to you?”
Koenma looked at her. “Sensui and Toguro.”
Botan shook her head. She sat down next to Koenma and started to heal his injuries.
“What’s Dad said about all this, Botan?” Koenma asked.
“Don’t worry. The only thing is that you have to stay in the Ningenkai until September first. I think you can handle a week, Koenma. Then everything will be back to normal.”
Koenma gave a small smile, but Yusuke could tell something was wrong. He wouldn’t push it now, but he would have to ask later.
“Well, there you go!” Botan said brightly.
Koenma smiled, for real this time. “Thank you, Botan. You can go back to Reikai now.”
Botan nodded and left. Koenma took his pacifier out of his pocket, but before he could put it back in his mouth, Yusuke put a hand on his arm.
“Wait, before you do that, let’s have something to eat and get you into some other clothes.”
“Okay Yusuke.”
Yusuke gave Koenma a light blue top with white pants. Yusuke had watched him while he changed his shirt. His ribs were very visible. Yusuke didn’t like it, but there wasn’t really much he could do at the moment.
“Okay, we got ice-cream, ramen, pop-tarts, crackers, cereal, what would you like?”
Koenma shrugged. “Anything’s fine…”
“There would be more, but I haven’t gone shopping yet… Oh, we have soup! We can have crackers and soup!”
Yusuke heated up some soup and they sat at the table, each with a bowl of soup and a small plate of crackers.
Yusuke dipped a cracker into his soup.
“Careful, it’s hot.”
Koenma winced as he burned his tongue.
“You could have told me earlier, Yusuke.”
Yusuke chuckled and took a bite out of the cracker. “Sorry.”
“It’s alright.”
They ate in silence for a few minutes before Yusuke spoke up again.
“Why didn’t you eat for a month, Koenma?”
“I’m not really sure. I was… devastated, I guess, when Dad said I couldn’t see you for two months. I thought working would pass the time faster. I didn’t want to sleep, and I just never felt hungry.”
Yusuke shrugged. “Just promise me, you won’t do that again. You had me worried.”
Koenma blinked. “Really?”
Yusuke nodded. “Yeah.”
“It’s nice to know someone cares, Yusuke.”
“Yeah, I know.”
When they were done eating, Yusuke cleaned up the plates, and Koenma put the pacifier back in his mouth.
“Thank you, Yusuke.”
Yusuke smiled. “It was nothin’. It’s nice to eat with a friend.”
They went back into Yusuke’s room, and Yusuke sat on the floor in front of the T.V.
“I got a new T.V., Koenma, see? I can play video games at home now!”
“How’d you get it?” Koenma asked, sitting on the bed.
“Well, it wasn’t that expensive, because it wasn’t that big. I got the game system from Kuwabara. His was broken, so he got a new one, and I took the old one and fixed it.”
Koenma seemed surprised. “I didn’t know you could fix things.”
“Well, it pauses once in a while, but it’s okay,” Yusuke said, turning on the T.V.
“We can stare mindlessly at the T.V. later, after we play the game.”
Koenma nodded. “Okay.”
Yusuke took out two controllers, handing one to Koenma. “Okay, this one makes your guy jump, this one blocks, and these two are to attack.”
After he had Koenma learn the controller, he turned on the game.
“A fighting game?” Koenma asked. Yusuke nodded.
“Now why does that not surprise me?”
Yusuke laughed. “Hey! They’re the least expensive! Now pay attention, or I’m gonna beat you!”
A few minutes later, Yusuke was amazed. Koenma was really good! His controller vibrated as Koenma started attacking his character again.
A few minutes later, Yusuke was desperately trying to get health.
“…Damn! You’re pretty good at this, Koenma!”
“Thank you.”
“Yusuke, I’ve beaten you ten times. How much longer do you want to play?”
“We can stop,” Yusuke offered. He turned off the game and the T.V. went blank.
“What game was that?” Koenma asked.
Yusuke looked at the case. “War of the Monsters.”
“It was fun.” Koenma looked at the clock. “It’s three. What are we going to do for the rest of the day?”
Yusuke shrugged. “Watch T.V.?”
Koenma smiled. “Okay.”
They watched T.V. until six, then Yusuke turned it off.
“Let’s have dinner.”
“What’re we having?”
Yusuke grinned. “That’s a secret.”
They ended up having ramen for dinner and ice-cream for desert. When Yusuke came back from putting away the dishes, Koenma was asleep.
Yusuke yawned. “I’m tired too I guess… Now where’m I gonna sleep?”
He sat in his chair backwards and leaned on the back.
“Goodnight, Koenma.” * * *
