Chapter 8: Demon World Troubles Disclaimer: I’ve had it in the first 7 chapters, I’m not gonna do it again.

“Kurama? Kurama, are you alright?” Botan asked.

One gold eye opened, then another. Kurama sat up and looked at Botan. She had a kind of nervous look on her face. (You know, like the sweat drop thing!)

“Botan? What’s wrong?” Kurama asked.

Botan backed away slightly. “Yo- Yoko?”

Kurama’s fox ear twitched. “Yoko?”

He looked over his shoulder and saw a silvery tail. His ears lay flat against his head.

“What… happened?” he asked. “I don’t remember Yoko taking control…”

“Maybe because you were feeling stressed out as your human self, so Yoko calmed you down,” Botan offered.

Kurama shrugged. Then frowned.

“What’s wrong?” Botan asked.

“My shoulder, I don’t feel it…” Kurama said softly.

He pulled down his sleeve. There was no mark on his shoulder. He smiled, but then frowned again.

“What is it this time?”

“It will only be healed while I am in my kitsune body,” Kurama said. “When I go back to human form, it will be the same.”

Botan frowned. She felt sorry for him.

“Hello? Earth to Kurama?”

Kurama’s tail twitched as he looked at Yusuke.

“I got the passes, lets go already!”

Kurama felt like baring his teeth at Yusuke as payback for all the rude things he had done, but swallowed the urge and got up.

“I’ll be watching you,” Botan said. “Good luck.”

Kurama smiled.

Thanks, Botan.

Botan looked startled for a moment, then saw Kurama wink.

Just something I’ve picked up from Hiei.

Botan smiled and waved as they stepped through the portal that would take them to the Demon World.

“Think they’ll be able to rescue Hiei?” Botan asked.

Koenma shook his head. “Most unlikely, unless they learn to work together,” he said, turning on a monitor that would let them watch their progress.

In the Demon World, as they walked through the forest they had come out in, Yusuke talked to Kurama.

“So, you said earlier that you read the book Botan showed you?” he asked.

Kurama nodded. “Yes.”

“So, could you tell us what we should expect?” Yusuke asked.

Kurama took a deep breath. “He was taken by Karasu, on his way back to the Demon World…”

“You already said that,” Kuwabara said.

“Maybe he did, but I didn’t hear it,” Yusuke said, annoyed. He glared at Kurama.

“You knew something that serious, and you didn’t tell anyone, until now…”

Kurama backed away, and his tail and ears disappeared. Yusuke took a step towards him, and Kurama backed away again, and his hair started to become red again. Yusuke smiled.

“You’re back in human form,” Yusuke said. “Do you feel it?”

Kurama backed up into a tree at the very second his shoulder’s injury came back. He winced and glared at Yusuke.

“And your leg, too,” Yusuke said, grinning.

Kurama was now completely in human form. He was angry at Yusuke, but he sensed that it wasn’t TOTALLY Yusuke’s fault. He continued walking.

“Lets just go find Hiei…” he mumbled.

Yusuke stuck out his foot at the last second and tripped Kurama. Kurama didn’t fall, just stumbled, thanks to quick reflexes. He glared at Yusuke.

“I just want to find Hiei!” he said angrily. “And you’re not making it any easier!”

“But what if I don’t want you to find Hiei?” Yusuke asked.

Kuwabara was standing there, just watching. Kurama turned to him.

“Please, Kuwabara, help me!” he called, as Yusuke advanced toward him.

He was getting a strong sense of dread now. He just wanted to be as far away from Yusuke as possible. But Kuwabara still wouldn’t move. Yusuke grinned again. That grin… it seemed so familiar…

“Karasu…” Kurama whispered. Yusuke laughed.

“I guess you’ve seen through my little ruse, my darling kitsune… but it won’t matter. I still have your little fire demon… quite the feisty one.”

“What have you done to him?!” Kurama yelled.

“Nothing as of yet, but don’t be so certain,” Karasu replied. “Taking control of this idiot’s body was simple, and immobilizing your other friend was also easy. So now, I can vent out my anger on you.”

Kurama was confused. “What anger?”

“It was tiresome to first take control of this body, then have to spend even more energy on stopping that oaf over there so he wouldn’t stop me from doing this… its been so long, kitsune…”

‘Yusuke’, which will now be known as Karasu, stepped toward Kurama. Kurama backed away, but backed up into a tree, and couldn’t go back any further in case Karasu did anything. Karasu smirked, and snapped his fingers. Many blue lights surrounded Kurama.

“You do remember the Dark Tournament, don’t you?” Karasu asked.

Kurama growled.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” Karasu said. Kurama could hear the smile in his voice.

“So, what are you going to do with Yusuke when you’re done with him?” Kurama asked, not sure if he wanted to hear the answer.

“I’m not going to be ‘done’ with him for quite a while, my kitsune,” Karasu purred. “I have missed you, and we need to catch up. Oh, I almost forgot, how are the injuries I inflicted last time holding up?”

One of the bombs exploded on Kurama’s leg. Kurama gasped. Karasu shook his head.

“Healing,” he said. “That’s a problem, but it can be fixed. Now how about your shoulder?”

A bomb exploded on Kurama’s shoulder. Kurama cried out and almost fell, but forced himself to keep standing on his quickly tiring legs. Yusuke smiled--no--Karasu made Yusuke’s face smile. He had to remember that this wasn’t Yusuke’s fault. Yusuke didn’t know how to use bombs.

“Still perfect,” Karasu said, still smiling. “But that doesn’t mean we don’t have to make some changes.”

Another bomb exploded at Kurama’s feet. Kurama involuntarily took a step back and a bomb exploded on his leg. He moved forward, trying to get away from the assault behind him, only to get more pain by moving forward. Every direction he tried to go to get away, a bomb was there to make him retreat again.

The bombs disappeared as Kurama fell to his hands and knees. Karasu laughed, then knelt down by Kurama and brushed a hand over his cheek.

Kurama curled up and closed his eyes tightly. He stayed silent. He didn’t want Karasu to get any satisfaction out of this. Karasu frowned. Kurama slowly reached up into his hair and took out his rose. But just as he was turning it into the rose whip, Karasu gripped his wrist tightly.

Kurama felt something like an electric shock, but much worse. He knew Karasu was draining his aura, but why? He looked up, and saw something he never wanted to see: Karasu was holding his Rose Whip. Even if he was in Yusuke’s body, he knew that this was more dangerous. If Karasu had drained his aura, then he knew how to use it!

“So, have you ever wondered what it feels like to have your own weapon used against you?” Karasu asked. “I’ve always wondered what it was like for my opponents who had gotten hit by my bombs.”

Karasu stood up and studied the whip for a moment.

“Prepare yourself, Kurama. This will be fun.”

Karasu raised the whip, and Kurama braced himself. But then they both heard something between a growl and a roar. They looked toward the source of the noise: Kuwabara! Kurama smiled slightly and Yusuke’s face went into it’s ‘pissed off’ mode.

“C’mon, Kuwabara!” Kurama called. “Fight it!”

Karasu looked down at him. “Be quiet!”

He created another Double Trouble Bomb, and it exploded on Kurama’s back. Kurama cried out and collapsed, unconscious. Kuwabara growled, and tried his hardest to break out of Karasu’s control. Kurama was hurt and bleeding, and he needed help!

“-remeshi! You-are-so-dead!” he yelled.

Karasu smirked. “Well, it has been fun, kitsune, but I must get back to my guest.”

Yusuke’s eyes became unfocused, then he fell to the ground, unconscious, and Kuwabara was free again. He rushed to his friends and knelt down.

“Oh, Uremeshi, I am so going to kill you when you wake up…” he muttered.

Then he looked at Kurama.

“Geez! Holy spit! Man, Kurama, we need to get you some help, fast!” he said worriedly.

He stood up, as he knew Botan and Koenma were watching.

“Hello? Botan? We need some help here!” he yelled.

Back in Spirit World, Botan heard her name and looked at the screen. She frowned.

“Koenma sir, I’m needed!” she called, and jumped on her oar and flew into the Demon World. * * *

So, what do you think? This one was shorter, but the next one will probably be longer.
