Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Untitled ❯ The Dirt Slide ( Chapter 13 )
“Ku rama? Kurama! C’mon, buddy, wake up!”
Kuwabara sat up quickly and hit his head on the tree.
“Oww…. Urameshi, why’re ya yelling this s-early?” he mumbled, still partly asleep.
“Because Kurama won’t wake up!” Yusuke replied angrily. He shook Kurama’s shoulder. “Wake UP, Kurama!”
“Whasso wrong with ‘im still bein’ asleep?” Kuwabara muttered, stretching.
“Because he doesn’t look too good,” Yusuke said, abandoning his efforts and sitting next to Kuwabara. “Take a look yourself, Kuwa.”
Kuwabara rubbed his eyes and looked over at Kurama. He blinked.
“What happened?” he asked, slightly suspicious. Yusuke raised an eyebrow.
“Do you mean-? Kuwabara, I highly doubt Karasu possessed me last night.”
Kuwabara rolled his eyes.
“He’s sick, Kuwabara! I just don’t know how… I knew he was cold last night, but I slept with him-”
Yusuke stopped. “That really did not sound right.”
Kuwabara paused, then grinned, then he laughed so hard, he fell over.
“Urameshi, I knew you wouldn’t, but it still sounds really funny!” he said, sitting up again.
“But how are we gonna wake him up?” Yusuke asked, crossing his arms.
Kuwabara shrugged. “Maybe he should stay asleep, ‘cause isn’t it good to be asleep when you’re sick?”
Yusuke shrugged as well, then looked back at Kurama. He was pale, and was still shivering, even though it was the morning.
“C’mon, Kuwa. We gotta help him,” Yusuke said softly, kneeling by Kurama. Kuwabara sat by him.
“Maybe you should lie down next to him so he doesn’t get too cold,” Kuwabara said.
“You probably have a hotter temperature than me, Kuwa.”
Kuwabara started to laugh, but then thought about what Yusuke said.
“Urameshi!”
Yusuke laughed. “Ok, I’ll do it, geez, Kuwa!”
He laid down same as he did the night before. Kuwabara chuckled.
“You did this last night?” he laughed. “I can’t picture you doing that!”
Yusuke growled. “One more word, Kuwabara, and I’m gonna hafta punch your face in.”
Kurama slowly woke, feeling something warm against his back apart from the cold rain. He slowly opened his eyes, and sat up. He saw Kuwabara sitting next to him, looking at him. He wondered where Yusuke was. He looked over his shoulder, and there was Yusuke, who had fallen asleep.
“Hey, Kurama, nice to see you awake,” Kuwabara said. “One second…”
He sat next to Yusuke.
“URAMESHI! WAKE UP!”
Yusuke bolted up, looking around wildly. Then he saw Kuwabara and narrowed his eyes.
“Hello, early morning fool.”
Kuwabara blinked, then got a look of apprehension, and quickly dodged to the side, avoiding Yusuke’s punch. Kurama started to laugh, but it quickly turned into a cough. Yusuke and Kuwabara frowned, forgetting their argument.
“Kurama? Are you okay?” Yusuke asked anxiously.
Kurama stopped coughing.
“I… don’t know,” he said. “It was cold, the rain… so maybe I got a cold…”
He stood up and tried to walk around the clearing. Yusuke was confused.
“What… exactly are you doing?” he asked.
“I’m making sure I can walk,” Kurama said. “It would be pointless to try and save Hiei when I can’t walk.”
Kurama stumbled, but continued walking. Once he had walked all the way around the clearing, he sighed in satisfaction and sat down.
“So, should we go now?” Yusuke asked. Kurama nodded.
“One moment.”
Yusuke could see that just one walk around the clearing had tired Kurama out, and it wasn’t a particularly large clearing. Kurama seemed to have gotten his breath back, and he stood. Yusuke shook his head.
“I really don’t think this is a good idea,” he said to Kuwabara. “But lets go.”
Kuwabara nodded. “We can stop if we think he needs it.”
Yusuke smiled. “Lets go.”
Kurama led the way, Yusuke and Kuwabara behind him.
A few minutes into the journey, Kurama paused, and leaned on a tree for a moment to catch his breath. He wiped his forehead, then took a deep breath and continued. Yusuke shook his head. When they got Hiei back, Kurama was going to take a break, whether he wanted to or not.
“Do you think we should stop now?” Kuwabara asked after Kurama had stopped again.
Yusuke shrugged. “I dunno, it’s your call now, Kuwa.”
“Why do you keep calling me that?” Yusuke shrugged. “I dunno.”
Kuwabara rolled his eyes. “Kurama, wait a second!”
Kurama stopped and leaned against a tree.
“We’re almost out of the forest, Kuwabara. Why are we stopping now?” he asked.
Kuwabara furrowed his brow, trying to think of an excuse.
“Because we’re almost out of the forest, and maybe… maybe we should rest before we go up against Karasu,” he said. Kurama thought.
“I guess,” he said softly. “Maybe for a few minutes…”
Kuwabara smiled and winked at Yusuke.
“Yusuke, do you think this is a good idea?” Kurama asked.
Yusuke shrugged. “I dunno. But you --and us-- are probably tired, at least a little.”
“Okay. For a few minutes,” Kurama said, and sat down on the ground.
Kuwabara and Yusuke sat opposite him. They knew that Kurama was thankful for the break, even though he didn’t say so.
After three minutes of silence, Kurama stood up.
“C’mon, lets go,” he said.
Yusuke and Kuwabara exchanged glances but stood up as well.
About two minutes later, they exited the forest. Kurama smiled. Not much longer till they rescued Hiei.
He took another step, but the ground crumbled and Kurama quickly stepped back. Yusuke and Kuwabara noticed that Kurama had stopped and they went over to see why.
“Hey Kurama, what’s- wrong…” Yusuke looked down.
Kuwabara ran up.
“Geez! What happened?” he asked.
“I- I don’t know,” Kurama said softly. “The ground just… crumbled…”
“So how are we going to get down?” Yusuke asked.
Kuwabara shrugged. Then he looked around and saw a ‘slide’ of dirt.
“Hey guys, look over here!” he called. “We can go down this way!”
Yusuke grumbled. “I don’t wanna slide down on dirt.”
Kuwabara glared at him. “It’s either this or nothing, Uremeshi.”
Yusuke rolled his eyes. “Fine. But what are we going to do about Kurama?”
“I’ll be fine, let’s just go.” Yusuke blinked.
“Okay, then… Let’s go!”
Kuwabara sat down at the top, closed his eyes, and pushed off. Yusuke and Kurama could hear him yelling. Yusuke sighed.
“Okay, I’m next. Go down when you’re ready, Kurama.”
Kurama nodded, and Yusuke sat down.
“Let me live!” He yelled, and sped down the ‘slide’.
Kurama waited a few seconds, then sat down.
“I’m ready,” he whispered, and down he went.
It was really fast. Kurama was surprised that there was a straightaway so long without any obstacles.
When the slide ended, he saw Kuwabara stumbling around, obviously very dizzy, and Yusuke rubbing his head. Kurama walked over to Yusuke.
“Are you okay?” he asked softly.
“Yeah. On to Karasu’s castle!” Yusuke yelled in enthusiasm.

So, what do you think? Sorry it took longer than usual, I’m working on another fanfic. I’m not sure whether I should put it on the net. I’ll think about it later. Next chapter they actually go in Karasu’s castle!
Review if you wish.
