Reviewed By: DYquem [MediaMiner Member] On: April 17, 2006 21:30 CDT Comment/Review: I agree with Kytari that Rin's mortality adds a sense of realism. I strongly disagree with the idea of reincartion or such to get merk & rin back together when/if she dies. Hawks mate for life but I think even they will mate again if they lose their mate. Indianapolis has a pair of peregrine falcons that come & nest in a particular spot in the downtown area, on one of the high rise buildings. Our parks dept keeps improving the box each year; there is even a falcon cam so we can see what they are doing. they eat the pigeons (hooray, or at least keep them in check) and the downtown square mile makes a great safe nesting spot and abundant food source for them. the point is that a couple of years ago, the female vanished during the year, presumably died, and the male showed up with a new female, "hey honey, have I got a multi million dollar high rise condo and great food for you. come produce chicks with me." In humans, it is always the happy marriages that produce second marriages after a spouse dies. It is the people who are miserable who never remarry. Merk doesn't need to spend the rest of his very long life alone. He can cherish his time with Rin, and if you choose to show she died, he can grieve and move on.

True, it sucks that people can't live forever in a perfect dream world happily ever after, but the ending had a sense of realism to it and I liked that. You made Rin into a wonderful character and I agree with your statement that it is Rin's mortality that adds to her character. It says a lot for a ningen to make it in a youkai world the way she did. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed it and I look forward to your next piece.

Wierd.

I will be much more demanding." I'm a little sorry you didn't save Hideaki's son for Mizuki. That would have been an interesting pairing. This business w/ the southern lands is tricky. You haven't really established whether most of the other lords are truly behind Merk or whether they just haven't rebelled out of inertia or fear. He seems to have soldiers, but who REALLY has his back other than Rin? Anyone? A soldier at his back who is there out of obligation or fear may be more dangerous than the open foe in front of him. There have to be spies and traitors in the castle.

Who knows, has something to do with cookies, I suspect. anyway. . . good job. very sweet love scene. You should think about addressing children. Dogs and humans are both mammals, but hawks are not, and you keep mentioning chicks. will she nurse? will she carry the chick inside the entire time? Of course, magic can explain a lot. Re Mizuki, I can see her saying something like that. Its very amusing.

I'm surprized that merk is allowing his inferior to fight for RIn. Takoshi seemed nice enough, but we really don't know him. I'm am glad you decided not to tie it all up with a neat "oh, & Sora and Takoshi get together." too cliche in my opinion, and frankly unrealistic. If Takoshi was attracted to the fighting female who rescued him, then he'd never go for a bit of nothing in silk. She hasn't been given a three dimensional character, and you made her seem snide when she and other ladies of Sess's court were giggling about Rin. You have given us the impression Takoshi is young. There is tons of time for him to find a mate.
