The Last Dance

Kari looked at herself in the mirror wondering what she had ever done to deserve such a beautiful image. She radiated a happiness that she didn't feel in the depths of her soul. Her light pink gown accentuated her curves & her slightly bulged stomach where her little girl lay curled up.

`I still don't know what to name her. Father said a name that would last. I wonder what he meant by that?' Kari thought to herself.

Suddenly a few of the girls walked into her room giggling & laughing.

"Aren't you ready yet Kari?" Hotaru asked.

"Like all girls she probably can't decide what to wear so she's going through her whole wardrobe!" Mina joked.

"Whatever Mina I'm done dressing!" she turned around to let them see.

"Not bad, pink has always suited you the best." Trista commented.

"Yeah but she should try a different color. Don't wear the same boring thing over & over again. That's a fashion disaster!" Mina was joking, but Kari got upset.

"Shut up Mina. Just because I don't have the money to buy every single thing I want doesn't mean I can't look nice!" she yelled unexpectedly.

"See what you did Mina!?" Hotaru scolded her.

"You know her pregnancy is making her very sensitive. You can't just say anything to her now!" Trista went over to Kari & hugged her. "It's all right she doesn't know anything Kari ignore her."

Serena walked in & when she saw Kari crying she jumped on a very defensive mode.

"Alright, what did you do to her?!" she looked at every girl in front of her.

"Oh she's just having one of her sensitive moments." Hotaru waved her hand at the princess.

"What sensitive? Since when was she so sensitive?!" Serena asked cluelessly.

"The moment she conceived a child Princess Serena. Jeesh I hate to think what your attitude will be like when you become pregnant!" Trista said sarcastically.

"What's to worry about? It'll be, `I'm hungry' every half hour!" Mina laughed uncontrollably after she said this. She was joined by Trista & Hotaru as well as Kari.

Red faced the princess addressed Mina's comment. "What do you know? I'm not even thinking about children right now."

"Sure your not!" Mina said wiping away the tears on her face.

"She'll probably come up pregnant before this year is over!" Trista said.

"W-why do you think that!" Serena said blushing furiously.

"Because you have Darien of course!" Hotaru rolled her eyes knowingly.

"B-but I'm n-not do-doing a-a-anything l-li-!"

"It won't come till later." Kari cut the stammering princess off. Everyone looked at her questioningly.

"How come Kari?" Hotaru asked.

"How do you know that?!" Mina asked.

"You forgot I have the ability to see what cannot be seen by all." She simply answered turning around to fix up her hair.

"You mean you can-?!"

"See the future right?" Hotaru finished Mina's sentence.

"It's no surprise Clow could see it too." Trista smiled at Kari.

"But wasn't that because of one of the Clow cards?" Mina asked.

"Yeah, but, with me it's different. I don't need the `Dream' card to see the future. For some reason I can see it on my own without actually trying to." Kari kept looking in the mirror.

"Wh-why didn't you tell us Kari?!" Serena walked up beside her.

"Why? What good would it be for you to know?" Kari asked.

"Well um….you…could, tell me-when a…..test is coming up, or perhaps-"

"No, cheating is not acceptable Serena you know that!"

"But it's not cheating it's just a little heads up you know!?"

"I can't do that Serena. My powers are only used for good things cheating not among them."

"They got all off the subject!" Mina said aloud to Hotaru. "I know she sees things but, Kari tell me what exactly did you see in the future?!" Mina begged.

"I shouldn't no one needs to know their future." She turned her head slightly & smiled at Serena.

"Oh c'mon Kari just this once tell me what you saw in my future please, please, please!" Serena begged too.

"I saw you with a very happy life & family." Kari turned away from her mirror & towards the door.

"W-wait tell us more!" Mina said excitedly following her.

"We can't stay in here all night chatting, the party awaits." She opened the door.

"She's right guys let's get going." Hotaru followed closely

"Don't you wanna know more guys?!" Mina asked

"No not really." Trista said going out with Kari & Hotaru.

The party was very elaborate. There were decorations everywhere & everyone except the princesses were wearing masks. Kari stood near the wall & looked at everyone else dance. She knew they were all happier than she was, but she couldn't help but think about that happy future she had seen. Why it looked like she wasn't apart of it. It greatly worried her, but not more than the dream of the end of this kingdom. This kingdom that she loved so much & the earth kingdom. What hurt most is that she couldn't tell them. No matter what happened she wasn't allowed to tell her dreams & premonitions to others not even Queen Serenity.

She slowly let go of her thoughts when a young man held out his hand to her.

"May I ask this dance young maiden?" the man had a mask as well & he was dressed in a black tuxedo.

"Sure!" she took his hand & he led her to the dance floor.

When she got closer to him she noticed a scent that she had only smelt on one person before.

"With all due respect your highness, shouldn't you be dancing with your future wife?!" she joked.

"You never miss anything beautiful. Just act like you don't know me for now ok?"

"Ok daddy."

As Kari & Prince Darien started to dance they engaged in soft conversation.

"I've missed you. How are you three-I mean four doing?" Darien asked.

"We're fine, Serena & Serenity are taking good care of us."

"They love you & I do too. You have to come back after this is all over. The palace is quite boring without you."

"Why can't I come now?"

"It's too dangerous. I can't put you & your baby in danger Kari!"

"I'd be ok. Besides nothing's stopping them from coming here right? The moon is just as dangerous."

"I don't want them to come here. I'll do everything I can to prevent that."

"Even you can't dodge fate papa." Kari smiled at him knowing exactly what was to come.

All the sailors who were dancing looked at Kari & Darien. Mina & Rei managed to step on their partners feet while trying to see what they were doing.

"Who is that guy?" Mina asked Lita who was dancing close to her.

"I don't know but can't he see she's pregnant. He's trying to flirt with someone who's already married!" Rei fumed.

"I hope she doesn't fall for him, he's so cute." Lita said spinning around.

"How can you tell he's wearing a mask Lita?!" Rei fumed some more.

"We have to get closer to find out what they're talking about!" Mina interrupted her tirade.

"Then let's go!" Rei said dragging her partner along too.

"I wonder who that guy is?" Trista asked aloud to Michelle & Amara who were dancing together.

"I hope he saw her stomach before he asked her to dance, putting two & two together would tell him she's obviously got a husband." Michelle looked on worriedly.

"Please, some men are slow Michelle. He'd only know if he looked at her ring or if she told him herself which I doubt either happened." Amara replied.

"Let's just keep an eye on them he might try to hurt her if she's not careful. You know how vulnerable she is because she's so kind & caring for other people." Trista said never missing a beat with her dance partner.

"Right, let's move in slowly where she can't see us." Amara, pretending to dance, led Michelle closer to Kari & Darien.

On the other hand Lita, Rei, & Mina were doing a rather pathetic job at dancing & listening to them at once. Rei leaned in to spy on their conversation while her partner was dipping her & breaking his back.

Kari had stopped dancing & the man had his hand rested lightly on her back, an offense to the fire soldier.

"What's wrong Kari?!" Darien asked with concern on his mask covered face.

"Nothing I just feel a little sick. I'm ok." she smiled at him.

"I guess I spun you around to much. C'mon let's go for a little walk." He pulled her outside with him.

Rei finally got up off the floor. "Guy's he's taking her outside!" she informed Lita & Mina.

"He might want a kiss or something!" Mina said dreamily.

"Well we have to stop that, she's married & we can't let Yue down!" Lita said letting her partner go. The three girls stalked them all the way outside. Amara, Michelle, & Trista weren't far behind.

"Don't you think spying is a little low for us guys?" Trista asked.

"No not if we're protecting Kari it's not!" Amara answered.

Kari looked at the earth before her, her true home.

"Do you feel better?" Darien looked over at her.

"No, sickness comes with pregnancy. There's nothing I can do."

"Are you excited about your baby?"

"Yes! The waiting is killing me! I'm so anxious to meet my daughter! I can't wait until I can hold her & sing to her & kiss her good night!" Kari said excitedly.

"You already know the gender? That was quick!" Darien was surprised.

Kari sorta calmed down thinking about how she first found out. A small frown caressed her lips.

"Yeah papa told me, right before he died. He wanted me to give her a name that will last, but I just can't decide. There's so many things I can name my little girl."

"Just name her whatever you want. You could even give her more than one name."

Kari thought about her agreement to never tell anyone about their future & decided if she never directly told them in detail then she wouldn't exactly be telling them their future.

"If you were having a girl what would you name her?" Kari asked innocently while cluing him in on his future.

"I-I don't know. I'll decide when I get that far!"

"But you already are! You & Serenas wedding is approaching very quickly. A baby won't come far behind that. Believe me, I was already pregnant right after the engagement!" Kari laughed.

As Amara, Rei Trista, Michelle, Lita, & Mina spied on Kari & Darien. Serena & Hotaru were searching the ballroom for them & Kari. Serena walked out & saw them together & smiled to herself. She looked over & saw the snooping princesses & laughed outloud.

"Why're you guys hiding like that!?" she looked at the girls trying to calm her laugh.

"Shhh Serena we're trying to make sure Kari doesn't get hurt!" Mina put a finger to her lips.

"Hurt by what?!" Kari & Darien walked over to them.

"Who is he Kari?!" Amara asked threateningly.

"She's married already buddy so back off if you know what's good for you!" Lita took Amara's approach.

"Kari two timing is a bad thing don't let Mina tell you different!" Rei crossed her hands over her chest.

"Yes Kari stay true to Yue. He's that babies father her `husband' if you didn't know!" Mina said ecstatic.

"What are you talking about I'd never cheat on Yue I love him too much!" Kari looked at each of the girls with a warning of her own.

"Well tell mister flirtatious that!" Rei pointed a finger at Darien.

"Flir-what? What are they talking about Serena?!" Hotaru asked.

"I don't know, but my Darien would never flirt with his own daughter!"

"D-Darien?!" they all said quite shocked.

"That's right this is Darien. He had to be disguised in order to get into the palace. Of course I was gonna dance with him!" Kari explained.

"Looks like we made a mistake guys." Rei & the other girls were red faced & embarrased.

"No problem. Serena wanna dance?" Darien looked at his future wife.

"Of course I do Darien!" Serena took his other arm & he led the two girls inside.

"See, I'll never listen to you guys again!" Trista said.

"Me either. Amara's a bad influence!" Michelle agreed.

"If I recall you were in on it by yourselves, Trista & Michelle!" Amara retorted.

"Only because someone is a bad influence!" Michelle rolled her eyes.

"Well in that case your talking about Mina!" Hotaru said giggling.

"What I'm not-!"

"You gotta admit Mina & Amara are two bad girls." Trista said looking deep in thought.

"I'm going to miss the party fooling around with you guys!" Lita said running back inside.

"You, we're all going to miss it!" Mina ran in followed by Rei.

Amara, Michelle, Trista, & Hotaru stood around a few seconds more in serious conversation.

"I wish this to never end." Michelle said quietly but loud enough for her partners to hear.

"They're so young, if only fate could understand we could all have our wishes granted." Amara said with sadness in her voice.

"I feel worse for Kari. I don't think she'll be able to bear it. I wish I could stop time so this night would never end, become an endless moment without pain." a silent tear fell down Tristas cheek.

"It's not avoidable Trista. I have already accepted my fate with the prayer I'll see you again. I'm holding on to that hope as the end approaches. I know it'll come true." Hotaru held her tears at bay.

"All we will be able to do is watch them from afar, protect them from our planets. Our sweet princess that we love so much." Michelle squeezed Amaras hand.

"There's nothing wrong with that even if they don't know. To watch over someone you love from afar is a true sign of love. I'll never forget this, never." Amara couldn't stop the one tear that fell from her eyes.

"I won't either, I'll never forget this or you three." Trista turned to her outer companions.

"Even if I do forget you'll be in my heart always, all of you." Hotaru said letting a few tears fall.

"Same here, we are connected by our planet power. We're with each other no matter what happens or how far we are from the other sailor scouts." Michelle hugged Hotaru, Trista, & Amara & then they all made their way back into the ballroom to enjoy the rest of the night.
