Chapter 5: When Good Things go From Bad to Worse
~~~
Waiting is a funny thing. You could wait for years and not feel a thing, but once what you had been searching for was found all that patience went out the window. Twenty years had gone by since the beginning and now that he found her all he wished to do was destroy everyone that had taken her away from him. But no, he had to wait...
He would reveal to her all their secrets and then she would be his.... And then the killing would begin...
~~~
Chiaki noticed that his uncle as in a better mood this morning when he woke up. Which was strange because the girl Jessica threw a book at him for following her [and the only reason they found that out was because Rin noticed the mark on his face]? Things were more interesting when he was depressed.... Chiaki thought as he woofed down his lunch/breakfast. Infact seeing Kagome really didn't bother him this morning either, normally the sight of Koga and the woman together would send him off the deep end, but he didn't say much. He didn't say anything until Rin asked why he was awake to early [it was around 10:30 am], normally they had to have Yuki wake him up just to get him out of bed, to which he replied that he was going to go into town to talk to Jessica. Which cause everyone in the room the stare at him like he had six heads.
“Hey, don't look at me like that! The two of us came to an agreement last night; she'll tell me when she needs to somewhere so she won't have to throw anything at me again for following her!”
Chiaki knew he was lying a little, but so long as he didn't do anything to Jessica he wouldn't have to kick his ass. For some reason every time he thought of Inu Yasha and Jessica together caused him to burn with some unknown feeling. It wasn't that he was jealous or anything, jealousy was a human emotion that he didn't have, he just didn't like the two of them together. Maybe it was the fact Inu Yasha still wouldn't let him live down the fact that he had grabbed her ass at the party and she knocked him flat out for it. No, that had nothing to do with it.
So he watched as his uncle left the house, wondering what the hell could have him in such a good mood as Yuki yelled to Inu Yasha to tell Jessie-nee-chan that he said hi [or something like that, it was hard to understand the pup...]. He turned to his mother and was going to say something when he noticed the look on her face. It wasn't a good one.
“What's wrong mother?”
Rin shook her head, trying to dispel the bad thoughts in her head as she answered, “I think it's starting, after five hundred years it's finally starting,” she continued to look at the sky, which had been a lovely baby blue was now turning black as night. “.... I only hope that your father makes it back in time....”
~~~
When Inu Yasha made it to Jessica's house it was still only 11:30 am and she was down-stairs putting laundry in the drier as he walked up the stairs and knocked on the door. At first she thought it was the Pacific Islander neighbors across the way [they sometimes ask odd questions, like if we have cable....], but the heavy knocking and the muttering in Japanese gave him away. Geez, you'd think he really did want to talk about he failed relationship.... she thought as she walked to the door [the laundry is downstairs in the garage which is separate from the house....]. She walked out the door, slamming it loudly as she looked up at Inu Yasha, who was startled to find her at the bottom of the stairs in her night clothes still.
“Boy, you must really want to spill to someone if you're here a half an hour early....” she said lightly laughing as she walked up the stairs.
Inu Yasha jumped, stammering out an answer quickly, “H-h-hey! I had a choice, sit at the house with Chiaki bitching the whole time or just come over here! And honestly, I've had to listen to his ass for the last fifty years and I can't take it for much longer!”
Jessica came to a stop at the top of the stairs, amazed to hear how old the Emo pervert was. “He's fifty?” Inu Yasha shook his head as she opened the door. “Wow, so he's a perverted Emo punk and he's old.... I'll have to remember that one. Just come on in so I can get dressed and then we can go.”
Jessica led the way into the house, jogging up the stairs to her room while leaving Inu Yasha waiting downstairs. He looked around the spacious area, taking in the huge couch and kitchen. Hell of a lot bigger than the last place they were living in... he thought. But then again that was fifteen years ago.
He was so spaced out that when Jessica came down the stairs he nearly ran into her as he started to walk towards the house [he was standing in the doorway the whole time]. “Damnit woman, you need to watch where you're going!” he said as she steadied herself on the banister to keep from falling.
Jessica snorted, not really wanting to get into a shouting match with the half breed with her neighbors house she only walked over and put her normal shoes on. Hopefully it won't snow.... she thought. She noticed that he had his sword tied to his side, but decided better than to ask why. Standing up she grabbed her keys and motioned to Inu Yasha that she was leaving. “All right dog-boy, start talking,” she said as she walked out the door.
Slightly miffed at being called dog-boy, Inu Yasha followed close behind her as she made her way up the street. “Don't call me that! Do you have any idea how annoying the little pet names they give me online are!? When they came up with that one Sesshoumaru wouldn't let me live it down, all he called me was that for almost a year!”
Jessica laughed; she could easily picture his brother calling him that. My money's on the fact that he started it... she thought. Pulling up her hood as she walked she asked, “So are you going to tell me what happened or are you gonna bitch about your brother the whole time?”
Silence echoed for a few moments before Inu Yasha sighed, his head slumped slightly. Finally, right before Jessica decided to kick him to get him to talk, he started. “After the battle ended and Kagome went home, I waited for her till came back out of the well on the other end of it...”
Jessica glared at him for a moment before asking, “And what happened between all this? Like the fight and the wish and stuff like that....”
It was Inu Yasha's turn to snort as he put his hands into his pockets as they came to the highway. “Hey, you read the comic; you have to wait like everyone else!” He thought it was funny that she was trying to find out the ending like everyone else, but the look on her face said that something was not right in what he said. Shaking off the feeling he continued, “Anyway, things were great after that. We were living together and the comic, which was her idea in the beginning, was a total success. Then about a year ago she went on vacation..."
Halfway through the golf course he stopped and glared at something in the distance. Jessica looked at him, not knowing what the hell he was staring at, and asked, "And?"
Inu Yasha looked back at Jessica in surprise and hurried his steps, continuing, "When she came back she said that she wasn't happy and wanted to break up. I told her okay, thinking she just wanted time to herself, since things were getting crazy with everything and all. Two months later I find out she was seeing that bastard wolf, but I thought..."
"You thought she's come to her senses and come back to you, being the man that you are. Trust me, I understand how you people think better than women sometimes," she commented as they reached the street crossing right before the casinos.
"And that's because?" Inu Yasha asked, wondering where the hell she learned something like that.
"I was raised in a tattoo parlor since I was five, I would hope I learned something from being surrounded by guys all day long," The light changed and they crossed the street. "Anyway, explain why they're in Tahoe anyway."
"I was getting to that," he huffed before continuing, his tone lower as he remembered the night. "The night I ran into you they came up to me and told me flat out that they were getting married. They came here to plan everything out so that no one in Japan would find out before they wanted them to know, but seeing me there they decided just to tell me out right. Nothing to soften the blow or anything. So, instead just killing him like I wanted I ran like hell...." After a moments thought he added, "Which is why I ran into you..."
Jessica would have said something in return but as they walked up to the drive way of the first casino on the strip [and the one she worked at] she noticed dozens of people standing around the far side of the parking lot. "What the hell?!" Inu Yasha didn't even stop her when she bolted towards the first person that she saw that worked with her mom in the VIP room, hoping she was with them. "What happened?"
Nina, and she was pretty sure that was her name, looked up at her with shocked eyes and spurted out, "Some crazy people just walked into the casino carrying these big ass swords... I think they're gonna kill someone!"
Looking around, she asked quietly, "... Where's my mom...?" knowing full well what the answer was going to be.
Nina started shaking as she said, "She's still in there. This big guy came in and said he was lookin' for someone and that she know where they were."
Jessica stood there in shock for a few moments before bolting for the door in hopes of saving her mom. Inu Yasha didn't even say anything, he just followed after her, knowing exactly who was waiting in there for her. Someone tried to stop her as she got to the door, but Inu Yasha made quick work of the man by grabbing him and throwing him backwards twenty feet so he wouldn't try to stop her again. Bursting through both sets of double doors she skidded to a halt, looking around the empty lobby for any signs of the people that attacked her mom. Inu Yasha stopped right beside her, holding the hilt of his sword tightly as he strained to hear over the sounds of the casino floor.
Pulling her hood over the top part of her face she started to call for her mom, but the half demon grabbed her arm and stopped her before she could let a peep out. Shaking his head, motioned for her to be quiet as he looked around. He knew the bastard would hear them if she said anything since he was only a few feet away. There were at least four others, but he couldn't tell where they were.
Jessica could feel something cold moving into the pit of her chest. She what that meant. It was the feeling she got when something really, really bad was going to happen.
And she wasn't wrong.
In a flash, before Inu Yasha could even react, two people jumped at him from out of nowhere, sending him crashing to the floor. A third person walked out for behind the front desk, pointing his silver gun at his head, ready to shoot if he moved. They stood above him, swords pointed at his chest, waiting to see if he'd attack.
All Jessica could do was stand there in shock, even at the short distance she was at she could tell who the three were. One with brown hair hanging down to his waist wearing a red trench coat, holding a equally red sword. One wearing white pants with no shirt with his white hair standing up like he'd been hit by lightning, his fingered on the trigger of his gun-sword. And lastly, one that had grey/white hair that fell just passed his shoulders, smirking as he pointed his gun downwards at the slightly miffed half breed.
Why the hell is Yazoo still alive? she thought as she tried to figure out what to do since the look on Inu Yasha's face said 'Don't move' when she tried to take a step towards them. She could understand Genesis and Weiss being alive, the end of Cerberus said so. Then a thought struck her like a base ball bat to the head. If Yazoo is here, where's-
The thought stopped dead in it's tracks when she felt cold steel touch the base of her neck [where it meets the shoulders], even through the hoodie she was wearing she knew what it was. "Say goodnight, girlie," Loz laughed as he readied his Dual Hound.
"Don't!" Inu Yasha yelled, trying to shove himself up as both men pushed him back down, Weiss stepped on his neck to make sure he wouldn't move again.
"Stop, Loz," a voice called coolly from the VIP room. Jessica knew who that was even without seeing him. She felt Loz move a few steps backwards, thanking god he wasn't going to hurt her.
"I wouldn't move again beast," Genesis said with a smile on his face.
"Brother wants to kill you himself," Yazoo continued in a bored tone, the playful smirk still on his face.
"Who the fuck are you callin' a beast!?" Inu Yasha yelled in outrage, no one had ever called him that before and he was pissed. He managed to knock the two swords off with his own before Yazoo could get off a shot, but they pushed him back towards the hotel towers before he could get to Jessica. So he stood a waited with the Tetsusaiga pointed at the three people blocking his way. At least I can see what's going on now, he thought.
Jessica on the other hand was still frozen to the spot she was standing in, but not because Inu Yasha had tried to tell her not to. Because at that moment Sephiroth, in all his glory [or something like that], strode out into the lobby. It took everything she had not to fall to the floor. She'd had never felt a vibe felt so.... evil before. It felt like she was freezing to death when she could feel the warmth of the casino around her. He looked over at Inu Yasha for a moment before locking eyes with hers.
"It's so good to see you again, Jay..." he said, his bright green eyes holding her where she stood so she couldn't escape.
Now I know how a cornered animal feels, she thought. "My name isn't Jay, it's Jessica. So excuse me I've-" she turned to leave [or at least find her mom], but she met the business end of his sword [which she could not remember the name of at the moment] pressed against the side of her neck. Okay, guess I wont be going anywhere... "Where's my mom?" she asked, the anger she felt seeping into her words as she used her anger to keep her from shaking in fear.... or at least make in look like she was shaking in anger.
Apparently he didn't like her question, because he moved his sword even closer to her neck. Trying her best to keep it away from her she moved her neck to the side, causing her hood to fall back. "These people have lied to you your whole life and still you wish for their safety." He narrowed his eyes, in annoyance or at the sight of her hair she had no idea, but he continued, "The woman is unharmed. I knew you'd come to her sooner or later so I left her alive for the time being."
"Why is her hair blonde?" Loz asked with a touch of child-like confusion.
Inu Yasha snorted, "It's hair dye, moron. Even I'm not that stupid!"
"You thought you could hide her with just dye?" Weiss chuckled.
"It was for a costume damnit!!!"
"What the hell are you talking about?" Jessica was so confused, all she asked was where her mom was he went off and started talking about stuff that didn't make any sense. That and it was really hard to think with everyone yelling at each other.
Sephiroth smiled at her, "I've been watching you since before I sent the meteor to destroy our home world and I've been waiting even longer to find you. I know you know who I am, that everything I've done nothing more than a video game on this world..." He lower his sword and walk ever so slowly towards her as he continued talking, "Every time you become depressed I know why, only then do I know what you know. When you moved here I knew how much you missed your friends... how different school was for you... how they shunned you because you were different from them... and now they've even taken drawing from you, and it was the only thing that made you happy..."
When he stood right in front of her did she realize what Inu Yasha meant when he said that she wouldn't be able to believe him if he told her what was going on. Blinking, Jessica said the only thing she could think of, "Damn you talk a lot..."
"You stopped drawing? Over what Koga of all people said?!" Inu Yasha yelled. He knew she had been upset over what he said, but he didn't know she stop over it! "I told you he didn't know what the hell he was talkin' about!"
"Everyone wanted me to stop and grow up anyway, so it just made things easier," Jessica yelled back at him. She tried to take a step backwards, but stopped when she realized she was trapped between a retard and an evil dude. "Why is he did he say everyone's been lying to me?"
Inu Yasha tensed, he really didn't want her to find out like this. Sephiroth laughed, "What's wrong, afraid of what might happen if she found out the truth?"
"He's you're brother..."
It wasn't until her mother stepped out from behind did she know who had said it. All she could really hear was those words echoing in her head.... "What, him?" was all she could manage to get out, pointing at Sephiroth.
"We didn't lie when we said you were very sick as a baby..." she choked out, it hurt her remembering what had happened. "But for the first month you were trapped in a lab, being tested on by your real father... God could see you were a special baby, so he sent an angel down to tell your dad that he needed to save you..."
"She didn't need to be saved, I was there with her!" Sephiroth fumed. He turned to face the people behind him, since Jessica seemed to be in a state of shock.
"We saved her from turning into what you have!" Inu Yasha yelled, holding his sword a little higher to make sure he could protect Tammy from any attacks. "Listen, I was there the night you came to this world. It was me, Sesshoumaru and your dad that found you. If we left you there you would have been dead or worse."
Sephiroth laughed darkly, "If you think telling her this with keep her here, you're wrong. Jay will come with me and together we will destroy our world and I will finally become a god!"
"Don't listen to him Jessica! You've seen what happens if you side with someone like him, he'll kill you the moment he gets what he wants!" Inu Yasha yelled, hoping that she had read enough of his manga to know this.
"You know nothing of my plans. She and I are the same, her only choice is to come with me..."
"Don't tell me what I know about you! I founded the damn company that created Final Fantasy VII! I know better than anyone what you're capable of!"
"You're nothing like him Jessica!" her mom yelled, desperately trying to save her from turning into the mad man before them. "We were going to tell you you're adopted, but.... well, you started playing that game. So if we had told you it would have raised questions about your real parents. And I'm sure if we told you that your father a crazy scientist and your brother was trying to destroy the world you came from you would have thought we were crazy...
"We might not be connected by blood but we're still your family! This doesn't change the fact that we love you no matter what!"
Jessica stood un-moving after all that, a vacant stare the only answer before she closed her eyes. A sinister smile spread across her face, and that did not go unnoticed by Sephiroth.
"It seems that she has made her choice..."
~~~
It hurt like hell to hear all this after so many years of her life had gone by without knowing why she couldn't find anyone like her out there. And after moving to so many places she finally just excepted that she was just special. And special was good, cause that meant that there was no one out there to steal her ideas. But to hear that she was from another planet, that was an even bigger shock than when she met Inu Yasha.
Her mind raced back and forth, trying to find some reason not to be angry at them. Everyone that ever looked at her odd because they couldn't understand why she was different. Looked at her like she wasn't human!
Why didn't anyone tell her she was wasn't- !
But they told her why... she would have wanted to meet her parents if they told her... And it wasn't like everyone knew about it... Inu Yasha said last night that it was him, his brother, Rin and her 'parents' that knew. That meant Roxxane and Kevin didn't know. What if they would speak to her again because of it? Roxxane was always looking for a reason to why they were so different from each other... But that was wrong too.... they liked some of the same things... And Kevin always loved to watch anime with her...
Then she remembered something that she otherwise shouldn't have forgotten. Inu Yasha. He was half human.... but that didn't bother people. That meant she was at least as human as he was. He had warned her that is was going to change what she thought about everything... and now he was trying to stop her for making a horrible mistake... She couldn't let the people that trusted her down. It was still going to hurt, but it would have to wait.
She had a plan.
Knowing her mom knew her better than anything else she thought of the best way to escape. Closing her eyes she took a deep breathe and smiled her evil smile because when she gets a good idea that's the smile she uses. This was going to hurt but it was going be really funny later.
"Oh my god, you mean there's ugly alien goo in me!?" she screamed. What's easiest way to piss off at least three out of five people in the area? Say something bad about Jenova.
And it worked. Both Yazoo and Loz started yelling about her 'disrespecting Mother', though neither of them made a move to stop her. But it was Sephiroth that took action in his own hands. Or hand, as it may be. Jessica suddenly found herself a good two inches off the floor, struggling to breathe as he strangled her without having to fully turn around. "You will not turn against me! You are being poisoned by a human's words! Jenova is who gave you the strength to continue living even after they took you from me, you will say nothing about her for she is your mother too!" he said through his teeth.
Jessica looked over his shoulder and saw her mom looking at her worried as Inu Yasha and her dad pushed her through the employee doors to the downstairs. All eyes were on her so no one could see they escaping. Her dad looked straight at her and nodded his head, silently telling she did the right thing. "You're wrong.... my mother... just escaped..."
Sephiroth's head snapped back to were she had once stood, now only an empty spot as Inu Yasha vaulted over the everyone in his way in attempt to get to Sephiroth. Dropped Jessica to the ground he easily stopped Inu Yasha's attack with the Masamune. The other three turned to attack but Sephiroth barked out, "Find them, I know the other is with her." Off Weiss and Yazoo went to find her mom and dad, but knowing him he most-likely already had this planned out so she didn't worry.
Taking a few deep breathes, she felt Loz put his hand on her shoulder, asking "Are you alright sister?" He said something else about not saying bad things about mother, but she had stopped listening after hearing him call her 'sister'.
Hoping her aim was true, she let her elbow fly backwards, which thankfully connected with Loz's ugly face. As he clutched his face in pain Jessica jumped up and ran like the devil was right behind her, already an idea of where she was going to hide. She hoped no followed her because otherwise she was going to be trapped.
Jumping mid step, she somehow made it over the counter at the cage. She landed on the floor with a thud but she was able to pull herself up without much effort. She knew this was the best place to hide because of all the cameras [they've got millions back there], so if someone was still up there they could call for help.
Pushing herself against the side of the wall in the back room, Jessica barely make out the sound of the swords clash again and again, but it was the safest place she knew. The whole area was empty, she hoped the people got out okay. The fighting paused a few moments before starting again, this time on the other side of the casino before stopping. Sephiroth yelled out in rage and began attacking everything around him [that's what she guessed because she could hear the sound a ton of change hitting the floor, and that would only happen if the slot machines were being knocked over]. Vaguely she wondered if she was going to have a job when this was all over, but she then turned her thoughts to what she was going to do to get out of there. Freely shaking from the internal cold that Sephiroth was causing, she turned to find some sort of weapon only to nearly run right in Inu Yasha, who was just crouched there like nothing was going on.
Right before Jessica could yelled, Inu Yasha was able to cover her mouth so only a squeak came out before she realized it was him. Letting go he whispered, "Damn, it's only me."
Clutching her chest like her heart was going jump out, she took a few shaking breathes before she finally blurted out, "Holy shit, Inu Yasha you scared the living hell outta me..." Looking around to make sure he was alone she asked, "What happened? Is he still out there?" After a moments thought she added, "How did you find me?"
A sudden explosion rocked the casino, which cause the sprinkler system to start, before he answered, "I managed to trick him into thinking that you might have gone done the employee exit to the downstairs to find your parents, so now it's just him and Genesis out there... And the casino might smell like hell but your scent in easy to pick out." He noticed that Jessica was shaking pretty bad when he sat down in front of her. "Are you okay?"
Jessica looked over at him and glared at him with all her might. She watched as he flattened his ears to his head and scooted a little farther from her. "There is a crazy person out there that's wants to become a god. Apparently he's my brother and wants me to help him destroy a world just so he can become a god. At this moment I don't know if the people that say they are my parents are alive because I think at this moment Sephiroth wants them dead.... And for some damn reason there are no cops here yet! What is there to be okay about!!!?" Somehow she managed to get it all out without raising her voice, but only because the sounds of crashing machines and explosions were getting closer.
"Calm down, it'll be okay...." He was sure she was upset Sephiroth was after her and not the truth about her family. It was a good thing Kevin showed up or he might not have been able to get his wife to leave with Jessica drawing their attention like she did.
He thanked every god he could think of that Jessica hadn't turned like he thought, but she was always the forgiving type and he knew she'd forgive them. That look isn't evil, it means she has an idea... Tammy had reassured him when he thought all hope was lost. After Jessica had finally calmed down a bit into just light shakes he pulled out his phone to call his brother for back up but was beaten to it when his phone started ringing.
Jessica blinked for a moment before asking, "Is that the opening theme song from the first season?"
Inu Yasha snorted rather than answer her question, mostly because she was right, and answered his phone. Moments ticked by as Jessica sat there getting rained on while Inu Yasha chatted with his brother. When she realized that the floor was nearly silent she moved to say something, but Inu Yasha clicked the phone shut and handed it to her. "Sesshoumaru is on his way, he should be here in about five minutes and he's bringing Kagome and Koga to help..."
"If you think I'm just going to sit here and watch everyone fight you wrong!" Jessica was not going to be protected, she wanted to fight to show she wasn't against them.
Inu Yasha saw the determination in her eyes and decided that it was better than to argue with her. "I know. Both your parents are fine, they've got everyone downstairs so we won't have to worry about them. How well can you use a gun?"
"I played Tokyo Cop a half million times, but I've need really used one. Why?" Tokyo Cop was a shooter game at the arcade that she played were you had to dodge as people shot at you. And she was damn good at it too.
Smiling he pulled out a big gun like the one Yazoo had being carrying out of the inside of his coat. “How did-?"
"When you hit Loz in the face he dropped it. Just try not to shoot me with it and it's yours." Inu Yasha handed the weapon to Jessica, who in turn just looked at it like it was going to melt.
"What's that noise?" There was a steady whining humming through the air that Jessica couldn't figure out.
"Shit! He said the cops wouldn't get in this!" Inu Yasha jumped up and over the counter. He had to keep Sephiroth from slaughtering people before his brother could get here.
Standing in the middle of the now destroyed floor Sephiroth stood staring out the doors as the police car lined up outside. He was smiling, and if he was anything like his brother, that wasn't a good thing. Sephiroth began to walk slowly over to the wide line of doors, watching as the police cars lined up on the street outside. "She is up here.... I know it... but if she wishes to hide.... then I know what will draw her out..." he said to no one but himself.
Inu Yasha made a move to stop his, but Genesis came at him from behind. He just barely had enough time to turn around and block the attack before he was sent crashing into a group of slot machines. He shoved himself back up and readied himself for the next attack, trying to think of a way to stop Sephiroth before he could kill anyone.
"I wouldn't be worrying about them right now if I was you..."

And there is where I end it. The chapter was getting way to long.... 8,000 words and 15 pages is way to long to read in just one sitting for one of my fan fictions.... But not to worry, I found tons of time to write now. I just do it at work now! The next chapter is nearly done.... mostly because I realized that it was too long and split it in half, so you should get more soon!
