Chapter 6: And Then...

Jessica was worrying about finding her parents more than the cops, if they were stupid enough to attack Sephiroth then there was nothing she could do. Lightly complaining to herself about the sprinkler system making her completely soaked in its attempt to put out the fires he had caused, she quietly slide over the counter of the cage and hoped that no one was watching. Lucky for her Genesis was busy with Inu Yasha, so she was able to get over to video poker machines before someone could see her.

Even over the sounds of the two of them fighting Jessica could hear the sound of distant gun fire. She moved over to the edge of the little group of machines and took a look down the side of the corridor that lead to another employee entrance. Bursting out of the door came her dad, a shotgun in his hands as he fought off the three people after him. Jessica made a move to go help him but before she could even leave her hiding place he yelled out, "Jessica, go stop Sephiroth!"

Standing up, no longer caring about hiding she called back, "What about mom?!"

Weiss appeared through the door and began to hack wildly at her dad as he tried to dodge the on coming blows. Freeing one hand he pulled out a huge hunting knife from under his shirt and stopped Weiss’s blade long enough to say, "She's upstairs with Mikey."

She was sure there was more for him to tell her but when Loz and Yazoo walked through the doors Jessica ran like hell for the slots across the hall. She could hear them call out to her, asking her to come out, but she was smarter than that. Lifting the gun in her hand, she did her best to take aim at Genesis. Taking a deep breathe she chanted 'It's just a game' in her head, hoping it would make her aim a little better. Inu Yasha jump backwards to get away from an attack and before Genesis could even move Jessica fired. The shot hit him on the shoulder guard, but it was a long enough pause for Inu Yasha to send him flying across the room.

"Let go of me you fucking bastards!!!!" Jessica screamed as Loz and Yazoo haled her up from where she had been hiding. She struggled back and forth trying to stop them but they were a hell of a lot stronger than her, so as they dragged her backwards it was as if she weighted nothing to them.

They didn't get too far though. The moment they dragged Jessica out into the open Inu Yasha smashed into Yazoo as hard as he could, sending the both of them flying to the floor. Loz let go of Jessica, who just stood there watching, and readied his Dual Hound to strike, but a hit to the face by the handle of her dad's shotgun sent him right over the Player's Center counter and out of sight.

Kevin grabbed Jessica and then the two of them race to the front of the casino to where Sephiroth was. "Where's Weiss?" Jessica asked, mildly confused that he was alone.

"Trying to pull the knife out of his hand..."

Jessica blinked, "But that shouldn't take too long!"

"It will with it stuck in a concrete wall," he laughed, proud of his own quick thinking. The laughing stopped when they reached the doors that at one time had been there. What was left now was what looked like pieces of metal and glass that shoved to both sides by a semi. Outside Sephiroth stood unmoving, his back to them as they came to a stop. The only sounds in the area being the sounds of water falling into the huge puddle forming beneath his feet and the sound of a whole lot of guns being readied.

"I REPEAT: PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPON YOU ARE UNDER-ARESST"

Sephiroth ignored the man with the megaphone. There had to be at least thirty officers out there with their guns drawn and pointed at him. But it didn't bother him in the least, he just stood there waiting. The uniformed men didn't move from behind their cars, they waited for him to move or do something. But they were afraid. They didn't know why, but they were.

Inu Yasha skidded to a halt right beside Jessica, huffing as he heaved his giant sword to attack. "We're trapped."

Jessica turned and watched as all four men walked slowly towards them with their weapons ready. She looked back in front of her and saw Sephiroth and finally turned to them, a big smile on his face. He set them up! "So this is what a rock and a hard place feels like..."

Holding his hand eye level, Sephiroth mumbled, "Now that we're all here... it time to show you how weak these humans can be..."

What Jessica could only think of as red mist began flowing up his arm, covering his hand in a red glow. Not mist.... fire! Jessica made a move to yell the men they had to run, but it was too late. Sephiroth threw his hand towards them, flinging the fire spell at them before they could react. It exploded on impact with the first car, sending up fifty feet in the air before crashing down on another and starting off another in its wake. People began ran everywhere in attempt to get away from the fire.

Loz moved to attack Inu Yasha, but he was ready for him. He stopped the Dual Hound with the Tetsusaiga, only to be forced back by Yazoo gun fire. Kevin had his own hands full as Weiss began his attacks again, most likely still pissed about the knife to the hand. He barely had enough to pull the knife from the leg holster before he tried to shove the sword [gun] through his chest. Lucky for him he was able to throw off the attack before Weiss had a chance to pull the trigger.

Jessica looked around; everyone was fending off blows while she sat alone. Genesis was nowhere to be seen. A few cops started running towards Sephiroth, guns up, but they didn't even have a chance to let off a shot before Sephiroth cut them down one by one. Horrified, Jessica lifted the gun with both of her hands as he turned to face her. The flames heat dried him off [everyone else too] so he stood there with his hair blowing in the wind, daring her to shoot him. Jessica pulled the trigger, but someone kicked the gun from her hands so that the shot went harmlessly by his head.

Genesis appeared in front of her as she tried to figure out what had happened. She couldn't even blink before Genesis punched her in the gut, all the air in her lungs escaping in a gasp. It felt like her heart had stopped, her vision blacking out as she was thrown over his shoulder. He walked over to Sephiroth as Jessica laid limp there as she struggled to remember how to breathe.

A hand grabbed at her face and pulled her upwards. Jessica slowly opened her eyes and stared straight into Sephiroth's bright green eyes. He didn't look to happy. "All this could have been avoided.... but you chose to join them..." Something pulsed through him and into her, and in did not feel like a good thing. In fact, it was painful as hell. It took everything she had not to scream out. "Soon you will bend to my will like all the others..."

Someone yelled out something she couldn't understand, then the next thing she knew she was flat on her back again. When she opened her eyes she could make out someone standing over her, but the feeling she got from Sephiroth hadn't left yet.

"Are you okay?!"

When Jessica finally managed to sit herself up she saw it was Kagome that was that asked the question. "I don't know... I think he did something to me..." she mumbled as she tried to stand. Jessica surveyed the area to see what she had missed. Her dad and Weiss were still fighting but it looked like he wouldn't last much longer against him. Koga was taking on both Loz and a now gun-less Yazoo, using his demonic speed to over power their hand to hand combat without braking a sweat. "Where's Inu Yasha?" She couldn't see him anywhere and since Koga took his fight she wondered what happened.

Kagome was shocked Jessica had even said his name since she really didn't handle meeting them to well, but by the looks over her she knew this fight had been hard for the both of them. "Inu Yasha is back that way with Sesshoumaru fighting those other two guys," she said pointing towards the back parking lot. "Jessica, what's going on?" Sesshoumaru told them that they'd be fighting a group of people that where in a video game Inu Yasha's company made but little other than that.

Taking a deep breathe, Jessica stood up and limped over to where the gun had fallen. “A lot of bad shit's going on, but not enough time to explain it all." After picking it up she turned to Kagome, completely serious, "Kagome, there's a huge group of people in the parking lot on the other side of the building. Can you go over and tell them to get away from here before something really bad happens?"

Surprised, Kagome nodded, "Sure thing." Taking a another look around before asking, "What about them?" pointing at the two Koga was fighting.

"You should be fine. Koga's got those two, my dad's got one and the brothers have the last two... Hey, ask Koga where the other gun went..." When Kagome asked him he tried answering her between punches, but when that didn't work out he picked out of the twisted metal and threw it at them, yelling something at them. “He said there it is."

Grabbing the gun as fast as she could, Jessica shouted for her to just run straight through the casino. She ran towards the highway and looked around, trying to follow the sounds of fighting. Both ends of the street were blocked off, thankfully, so it was safe to run across when she spotted them in the alley at the neighboring casino.

Her dad was on the ground, using his shotgun to hold Weiss off him. Jessica wasted no time raising both gun and opening fire on the bastard. Weiss howled in pain as blood erupted from his arm, one of the bullets passing through his sword arm before he could shield himself from the onslaught. Gripping his arm, Weiss glared at Jessica with unbidden rage. Not matter what he couldn't harm her and she had been planning on that. "One day I'll get you for this," he grinned out through his teeth before disappearing in what looked like a ripple in space [like in those Sci-fi flicks].

Jessica rushed over to her dad; he was wounded in small areas all over but looked like he was okay. No words were said between them as Jessica pulled him up on shaky legs and together they hopped back across the street to watch Koga finish up with the two clones, both of them vanishing in the same ripple as Weiss had done. Setting him down on a ledge, Jessica ran off hoping she still had a chance to help. Kevin watched her go, kicking the wolf once as he yelled obstinacies at Jessica for running off. Koga glared at the space the woman had just been in, but followed after the man when he realized that Kagome was in the direction he was heading.

Huffing round the corner, Jessica had to slow down to a fast walk in order to make it passed the twisted metal that had once been cars. She crouched behind one pile of what once was the front end of a car watched what was happening. On the other end of the parking lot everyone was fighting so fast she barely could see them, it was like watching Dragon Ball Z but without all the crappy dialogue. The all of a sudden she saw that they were moving closer to were the people used to be despite that fact that Inu Yasha and Sesshoumaru were trying they're damndist to keep them back where they were. Rushing forward, She did her best to try to not be seen [which was useless anyway because Sephiroth could sense her...].

Thoughts raced back and forth as Jessica struggled to think of something to do. But there was only one thing to do. So she stood straight up, her head down with her hair covering part of her face as she lifted the twin guns to take aim at her target. Sephiroth's moves faltered for one second, long enough for Sesshoumaru to gain a little ground against him. Genesis didn't even notice, all he could think of was attacking Inu Yasha. So the moment Jessica fired the guns he had know idea it was him she aimed at until a bullet pierced him just below his shoulder guard. He looked down at his wound as if he didn't believe that someone was able to hit him.

"Damnit woman I told you not to shoot at me!!" Inu Yasha yelled at Jessica, pissed that the shot had come so close to him.

"I wasn't shooting at you I was shooting at him! Don't get you panties in a bunch!" Instead of keeping the guns level with Genesis she turned one towards Sephiroth, not wanting to take any chances with him. She shoved the other into the back of her pants for safe keeping, two wouldn't help with Sephiroth and she wanted one hand free.

Genesis laughed weakly, muttering, "We'll have to finish this later mutt," before disappearing in the same fashion as the others.

Everyone turned to Sephiroth, watching as his insane smile spread like a virus across his face. Koga and her dad appeared through the doors of the back tower to complete the circle around the mad man.

"Give it up Sephiroth, you're not walking away from here with Jessica," Inu Yasha spoke, breaking the silence.

"Not today. Not ever," her dad added.

Sephiroth said nothing, only bringing his hand to cover his face in what looked like a show of defeat. It wasn't till they hear him laughing that they knew he hadn't given up. "You think because there are more of you that you've won? Cloud had eight other people with him and still he fails to stop me, even after the death of the Centra. Time and again he can never fully stop me..."

"And one day he'll stop you for good... it's only a matter of time..." It was Jessica who spoke those words, and she was right. The universe always righted itself with a shift between good and evil, that's why good always wins in the end.

Sephiroth said nothing in response. The anger he felt was a clear as day on his face.

Suddenly he was gone, only a gust of wind in his place. Jessica didn't move. She knew where he was the moment he disappeared. "If you are so fond of them then it will be by your hand that they die." And then he was gone. A ghost in the wind.

"He didn't touch you did he?" Inu Yasha hoped to any god that would listen that he hadn't.

Jessica didn't get a chance to answer him. It felt like someone had reached inside her head and taken control of her body functions. All at once she dropped to the ground, trying to fight the painful white noise in her head. She could hear her dad ask what was wrong before Inu Yasha stopped him from getting any closer. There were other people talking but in her state she couldn't tell who was talking because it wasn't in English.

It wasn't like she had no idea what was going on. Sephiroth was attempting to take control of her so that he could make her kill her dad, just like he tried with Cloud. She struggled against the Sephiroth's voice in her head, telling her to kill everyone. Jessica pushed on the sides of her head in a weak attempt to stop the noise, not realizing that she was still holding a gun against her head.

Inu Yasha wasn't sure what to do. Sesshoumaru was keeping Koga and Kevin away in case Sephiroth was able to take control but he wasn't sure how to keep Jessica in control. Her entire body twitched in pain as she sat there trying her hardest not to listen to the voice in her head.

"What the fuck's wrong with her?" Koga yelled, not sure what had just gone on but was sure whatever was going on wasn't good.

"Sephiroth is attempting to take control of Jessica," Sesshoumaru answered, ready to act should Inu Yasha fail stop her.

Completely ignoring the impending argument between his brother and the wolf, Inu Yasha tried walking over to Jessica only to watch her bolt up and away from him. He wasn't even sure how she knew he was there since her eyes were still closed. He must have woken up the Jenova cells in her... he thought as he tried to get closer to her without her running off. When she backed into the car behind her [and the last whole one back there], he closed in. "Just relax Jessica. You can fight him," he said softly, hoping it might help.

"Can't... hurts..." she tried to say between the noise in her head, but the longer she fought the stronger it was getting.

"Yes you can, you just can't give up," he watched as Jessica stopped moving, her head limp as her arms dropped back down to her sides. Slowly he took a step forward, not wanting her to attack him by mistake. "Jessica..."

The moment Inu Yasha was within arms reach Jessica's arm shot up faster than he could even move, a lot faster than a human should even move. The gun lay level to his face even though Jessica still wasn't looking. Slowly she lifted her head up and opened her eyes. They were bright green. "Any last words...?"

Even though it was Jessica talking, he knew it was Sephiroth saying it. The gun in his face shook slightly. Sesshoumaru made a move to stop her, but Inu Yasha motioned for him to stop.

Jessica was still in there, she was just being over shadowed. "Listen Jessica, I know you're in there. You don't have to do this...."

Jessica, or at least the person speaking through Jessica, laughed and held the gun closer to his head. "She can't hear you. She's mine now..." She smiled, the insanity seeping through the unnatural green eyes.

"Then why haven't you pulled the trigger?" It was one of the few moments where Inu Yasha had a stroke of genius. And he didn't have many of them. "If you had complete control I'd be dead by now."

Kevin snorted, despite being told to leave he was still there. "I don't even have complete control over what she does, and I raised her."

Jessica glared at the mouthy half breed, her fingers tightening around the gun. Her finger tightened around the trigger as hard as she could, but the gun wouldn't shoot. Every time she came close to shooting him her fingers would loosen their hold on the weapon. Suddenly Jessica threw the gun away from her, screaming out in pain as she leaned back on the heap of metal behind her. "Scum sucking son of a bitch!"

"Since he's your brother I believe you came from the same bitch as him," Sesshoumaru commented dryly.

Jessica whipped her head around and glared at the demon, her eyes once again their blue color. "Shut up Sesshoumaru! I'd like to see how you felt it someone rammed a red hot poker into you brain!"

"Are you in control again?" It sounded like Jessica, but Kevin wanted to be sure.

"Does it look like I'm in control?! It feels like my head is going to explode and there's a crazy guy screaming at me in my head!" Jessica was not in the mood for this. All she wanted to do was sleep now, but she could do was concentrate on not going homicidal again. That was not fun.

"That's her.."

"Good, now we just have to expel Sephiroth from her subconscious..." Sesshoumaru knew the human wasn't done with what he was doing, whatever he had planned would be easier if Jessica wasn't under his control.

"If we could cause a big enough shock to my system that might throw him out..." Jessica muttered, her hands on her head as Sephiroth renewed his attack.

"Might?" Inu Yasha asked.

"It's that or he'll take over again... I'm not sure which...."

"It's a chance we'll have to take. What kind of shock?" Inu Yasha looked around wildly trying to find something to help.

"We could throw her in the pool..."

"Not cold enough..."

Jessica slumped down on the ground. It was getting so hard to fight... The sounds around her started to blur until all she heard the muffled bits of what she could heard. Then it was all clear to her. If she could jump into the lake that'd stop Sephiroth fast.

"...the lake..."

Inu Yasha, who was still standing next to Jessica, looked down to ask her was what wrong but the words died in his mouth.

"Holy shit she's gone!"

Another chapter down.... I knew typing at work was a good idea! Now.... if they could just get Microsoft Word there my life would be easier.... Oh well.
