Chapter 10: And so Begins The Pain...

Inu Yasha was right about Jessica not having a job anymore. A little after seven work called to say that while the casino was still open in the parts that weren't destroyed by her jackass of a brother, the gift shop was closed to clean up the mess. She'd still have a job when they reopened, but until then she was out of work.

Too bad Jessica wasn't there when they called.

Once six a.m. hit Jessica could take the pain anymore. She had sat there for the last hour, trying not to make any noise as her breathing caused her chest to throb in terrible pain. The only reason Jay had kept quiet was because she had quietly asked him not to say anything. So there they laid, tears running down her face while he did his best to comfort her.

Finally she rolled on her on her side, hissing in pain as she managed to push herself on all fours. Jay started chirping quietly, following Jessica as she slowly made her way to Roxxane's bed. Jay beat her to it, the moment he was on the bed he started nipping her all over until she finally rolled over and looked at the time only to Jessica trying to crawl over to her bed.

"What's wrong?" After a moments thought she added louder, "Is it that bastard again!?" Roxxane jumped up, instantly awake and ready, and flipped the lights on.

Jessica had stopped, bent over and leaning of the wall to keep her upright. "I think... Genesis... hit me harder... than we thought..." she managed to say in between gasps for air. Roxxane stood pale white, staring in disbelieve at the sight of Jessica. Her tank top at ridden up on one side, revealing the bruise underneath. When she went to sleep last night it was red and purple. Now it was a sickly blackish purple. It had to be twice the size now! "Get... mom..."

All Inu Yasha wanted to do was go back to sleep. But it seemed Sesshoumaru had other plans. He had spent the last hour and a half outside... in the cold. Sesshoumaru seemed to think that he still needed to train, saying that 'his performance yesterday was a dishonor to the family'.

The only dishonor in this family is Chiaki ... he thought as he pushed himself up. Carefully looking around he noticed that Sesshoumaru was no where to be seen. It wasn't like his brother to disappear during training... Edging his way to the main house, Inu Yasha looked for any signs of a sneak attack or something like that. But there was nothing. Seeing a chance to escape, he quietly slipped thought the door, hoping no one could hear him.

"Going somewhere half breed?"

Inu Yasha spun around, trying to hide the fact that he had nearly jumped out of his skin. He was going to yell something out at his brother but stopped. Instead of the training outfit he had been wearing moments before Sesshoumaru was dressed to leave. "Where the hell are you going?"

“It seems that the blow to the stomach that Jessica received yesterday has caused at least two ribs to break from what Kevin has just told me. I’m going to take her to Doctor Mika to make sure there are no other problems,” Sesshoumaru answered, slightly miffed at himself for not noticing the problem in the first place. "Kevin has to go into work to help in restocking the remaining restaurant to keep it open, so he can't stay for long."

“But it was just a punch! How could she have broken anything?!”

Once they reached Kevin's house they had finally got Jessica down the stairs where she laid on the couch, struggling to breathe without hurting herself. Which just wasn't happening. So as Sesshoumaru and Inu Yasha, wanting to see this for himself, walked in they were surprised to see Tammy attempting to hold an ice pack [which was nothing more than a towel wrapped around crushed ice] to a bruise the size of a watermelon on Jessica's chest without hurting her.

"What the hell?!" was all Inu Yasha managed to say, completely shocked by the size of it. Just by looking at it he could tell that bastard Genesis didn't hold back at all.

Sesshoumaru walked passed Inu Yasha in his shock and bent to look at mark. Tammy moved out of the way to let him look, attempting to put Kevin back to bed now that he had woken up to Inu Yasha's outraged cry. Jessica didn't notice at all though, her eyes were covered up a wet towel to help block out the light.

Sesshoumaru was disgusted at the sight. Even if the cells had awoken in her it hadn't been enough to help heal the damage that Genesis had caused. He could see each finger in the fist that hit her, completely black before spreading out to dark purple. Sesshoumaru didn't need to feel to see that there were three broken ribs, two others most likely cracked or some other damage to them.

Turning back to Tammy he asked, "Is she able to walk?"

Tammy shook her head, "Are you kidding? The same thing happened to Kevin a few years ago and he couldn't move for a week!"

Jay clawed his way up the couch, perching near Jessica's head to coo at her in an attempt to make her feel better. Slowly Jessica reached up to Jay, lowering his head so that she could pat him softly along his ridges.

"Jessica." Sesshoumaru called from above her. She did her best to tell him that she had heard him, but all that came out was a weak grunt. Thankfully he understood [or knew better than to wait for a full reply] and continued, "We're taking you to a doctor. She's used to dealing with those in and connected to the demon community, so she won't ask questions about how you were injured. Understand?"

Jessica took a deep, painful breathe, and pushed herself up few inches. Using her good arm she removed the towel and answered, "Completely... and painfully."

Very slowly they managed to place Jessica in the car waiting outside, Inu Yasha being the one that carried her down the steps at Sesshoumaru's insistence. Once in the car Inu Yasha sat with Jessica leaning against him so nothing would bump her, while his brother drove. Silently he cursed his brother for making him do this, and if Jessica had been in the right state of mind she would have noticed that Inu Yasha could see right down her shirt and that his face was pink.

Doctor Mika was waiting for them as they pulled up, Sesshoumaru having called her before they left. She hurried them into one of her offices only to throw them out after Inu Yasha placed Jessica, who looked like she had passed out [which she hadn’t], on the table.

Moments later the woman, who was shorter than Roxxane [and she's 5'3"], busted out of the room and started yelling at the two brothers.

"What the hell were the two of you doing that caused this poor child to get injured like that!? She could have punctured a lung with a hit like that!!" She yelled, causing the two of them in flinch. Jessica, despite the fact that she was in serious pain, laughed at them. It was probably the lack of sleep that caused her to do so or the fact that her shirt was hiked up to just below her chest [or maybe the lack of air to her brain]. She wasn't sure which.

Thinking quick, Sesshoumaru pointed at Inu Yasha and blamed the whole thing on him, saying that it was his job to keep an eye on her. The doctor responded to that by throwing the clipboard in her hand at Inu Yasha, hitting him square in the face before walking back into her office to help Jessica.

A long twenty minutes later Jessica reappeared, bandaged but better than she had been a few hours ago. Doctor Mika followed, ranting that Jessica was not to train at all for at least two weeks while her bones mended.

"I don't care if her brother is trying to kill the president; she's not being trained by you until she's healed!" She yelled at Sesshoumaru.

Jessica looked over at Inu Yasha, confused as she leaned on her new 'super cool' cane. "Mika was a healer for Sesshoumaru for a few years until she got tired of only healing injures that he was causing."

"And with good reason!" she yelled, still pointing an accusing finger at Sesshoumaru. "Fifty years of dealing with that was enough to drive me insane!"

Jessica blinked, mildly understanding what was going on she asked, "And what kind of demon are you?"

Mika smiled and answered, "Bobcat."

The first days after this were spent in bed or on the couch, two days of bed rest for Jessica while the ointment that Mika had given her to help her heal faster. It came as no surprise that Mika was a demon. Why would they have a human treating demons anyway? So once a day her mom changed the bandages before she left for work and the kids off to school.

Which normally would have left Jessica lone in the house, but it was decided that she wasn't going to be left alone while Sephiroth was still around [for all they knew, anyway]. So that meant that until Jessica was well enough to train, Inu Yasha was going to keep watch over her. But that was okay with him. Not only did he get out of training, he got to play video games all day too.

It didn't last long though. Once Mika okay'd Jessica to move around again Rin decided to get a head start on teaching Jessica Japanese. So everyday Jessica, with Jay clinging to her shoulder under a blanket, would leave the house with Kevin at 8:15 am and walk [or limp in Jessica's case] to the end of the street where Rin and Inu Yasha would be waiting in a limo to take Kevin to school [Roxxane decided to have Alana drive her to school than show up in a limo... it'd raise too many questions]. So as Jessica sat with Rin trying to learn Japanese, Inu Yasha went back to having his ass handed to him everyday by Sesshoumaru. By the end of the two weeks Jessica could understand most of what Yuki was saying.... when he wasn't talking in baby talk.

Then came the news that Jessica was nearly healed once again, the two cracked ones fully healed while the ones that had been broken were a few days from being the same. And then the bad news: she had to start training the next day...

Jessica strode down the hallway as fast as she could, not wanting to be late. The few servants that passed her bowed in respect, saying good morning as she tried to find her way to the training area. How Sesshoumaru managed to hide an estate this size was beyond her! Finally spotting the doors to the dojo Jessica broke into a run, causing Jay the chirp in protest as he gripped her training outfit tighter.

Stopping suddenly and nearly throwing poor Jay off her shoulder, Jessica slowly walked into the room hoping that she wasn't late.

Inu Yasha, who had been laying on the floor at the time, looked up and sighed. No Sesshoumaru yet... that meant that he could still relax. "Don't worry, Sesshoumaru isn't here yet..."

Jessica exhaled the breathe she had been holding in a big whoosh. She really wasn't ready for this. Walking over to the red clad half demon she moaned, "Can't we rethink this?"

Inu Yasha looked over at Jessica, somehow ignoring the dragon nipping at her for nearly dropping him. "Just hurt yourself again, then we'll both get out of this."

Jay swung his head around and hissed at the idea, he didn't like it the first time she got hurt and it wasn't going to happen again [dragons are intelligent moments after birth]. Jessica didn't like the idea much either. "Oh sure, I'll just go find Genesis and ask him to try and ask him to attempt to remove one of my lungs this time..."

"Good idea-" he replied as Jessica kicked him hard in the side. Inu Yasha rolled to evade another shot she trying taking, only to slam her foot into the ground. Jessica cried out in mild pain, grabbing her foot and somehow managing to stay standing up with Jay on her shoulder. "What the hell was that for!"

Still holding her foot, Jessica pointed at him and glared hard. "For even thinking of using me as a scape goat!"

The door slid open and Sesshoumaru walked in silently, causing Inu Yasha to bolt upright and Jessica to drop her foot. Jay on the other hand, decided to perch himself on Jessica's other shoulder to get away from the demon and wrapped his tail around her neck. It was safe to say that no one wanted to be there... except for Sesshoumaru, anyway.

Sesshoumaru turned to the pair, noting the discomfort both of them were displaying before saying, "We will begin once everyone is present..."

Jessica blinked, fighting to understand what was said. Knowing that she was still having a hard time understanding Japanese, Inu Yasha muttered, "Someone's missing..." Sesshoumaru turned, glaring at Inu Yasha for helping Jessica. "Give her a break, she only understands maybe half of what we're saying!"

"Then she'll learn the other half," he replied coldly. Other than learning to fight, Jessica was continuing her instruction in Japanese. So as long as she was training with him she had to speak the language. No matter how little she understood. Noticing that Jay was still perched on her shoulder Sesshoumaru walked over to Jessica and carefully removed the dragon while it snapped at him. Since he was still small Jay didn't like to leave Jessica's side, but it would be hard for her to fight with the little thing clinging to her. Placing the growling beast on a pillow on the other side of the room, he returned to checking weapons. "Next time attempt to dislodge him before it's time to train."

Jessica stayed silent until Sesshoumaru looked over at her, expecting an answer from her. She understood what he said for the most part [it came out as "Next time... before... train..." but she understood what he meant.], but she really didn't want to answer him, mostly for the fact that Inu Yasha was going to make fun of her over it. Sighing, she gave up and mumbled, "Yes, Sesshoumaru-sensei..."

Inu Yasha looked over at Jessica, who was pale and red with embarrassment at the same time, and started laughing at her. Never had he had to call Sesshoumaru his sensei, so it was damn funny that she did.

Jessica on the other hand, didn't like that she was being laughed at. As quietly as she could, she brought her heal down on Inu Yasha's unclad foot as hard as she could. The half breed jumped in surprise, careful not to yell out in pain. Sesshoumaru glanced over, only to see Jessica looking innocent and Inu Yasha jumping up and down like an idiot. When he stopped he started calling her a bitch and other things, Jessica yelled back at him in a manner that he was sure that Rin didn't teach her. Sesshoumaru made a mental note to beat the living hell out of him for teaching her to curse like that [and it had to be him...]. Instead of stopping them from fighting he turned around, if they fought he didn't really care.

And just before their fight was going to come to blows [Jessica was planning on grabbing the front of his weird looking hair] suddenly Koga busted into the room yelling at Sesshoumaru. From what Jessica could later understand Sesshoumaru had Koga tossed out of bed [which Kagome was in at the time] and ordered the both of them to train. But apparently he forgot pants when he came running after the demon lord, because he stood there... completely naked.

Jay screeched in surprise, it being his first time seeing anyone naked, and hid his head behind his wings to block out the sight. Inu Yasha quickly turned his head to the side, trying to escape the sight he could have done without. Jessica did what she does best, over react. Yelling out in disgust she covered her face with her hands and cried, "My eyes!" as loud as she could.

Koga paused in his rant of 'respecting a man's space' [which means nothing when the space is owned by a super pissed off demon] when he noticed the looks of the other people in the room. "What the hell are you two doing?"

Sesshoumaru, who somehow managed not to do anything to show the wolf that he was prancing around naked, slowly answered, "Perhaps it is your state of dress... or lack there of...?"

Koga blinked, confused by what the demon lord had told him. Lucky for everyone Kagome ran into the room at that moment flinging clothes on the naked wolf screaming, "Koga you forgot to put pants on!"

Koga paled, he hadn't realized he was without clothes [he thought he had underwear on, but it seems he was wrong...]. Quickly he put on the shorts that Kagome had thrown at him and huffed. "Quit actin' like you two haven't seen someone naked before..."

"So wrong..." Jessica mumbled from behind her purple sleeves. There were advantages to wearing Japanese clothes.

"I agree with her, that was wrong..." Inu Yasha said, feeling slightly sick. "I'm gonna need to removed my eyes after that..."

"I think I'm blind...."

"Enough..." Sesshoumaru said. Going back to the wall he grabbed a wooden training sword and threw it at Jessica, watching as she caught it with the ease of someone that was used to having things thrown at them. Taking another he threw it at Kagome, but she completely dropped it when it came flying at her.

As Inu Yasha unsheathed his Tetsusaiga, Koga stood with his arms crossed over his chest. "Why do we have to train? It's not like we haven't fought someone like this before. Naraku-"

"Naraku was nothing compared to Sephiroth. At fifteen he was already as strong as Inu Yasha, and that was after five hundred years of training," Sesshoumaru said, pissed that the wolf was arguing. "Now he strong enough to nearly destroy Jessica's home world and transverse the universe. You wish to help fight him?"

"Yes we do-" Kagome tried to answer.

"Then you will train with the rest of us." The argument ended there.

Jessica looked over at Inu Yasha, looking for a translation to what was being said [everyone was talking way too fast]. "Fleabag's being a dumbass," was his answer.

"Question!!!" Jessica yelled suddenly, pulling everyone's attention to her. "How you gonna train four people... at one time?"

Sesshoumaru's eyebrow twitched, taking in her broken Japanese and slang. Suddenly he grabbed Koga by his neck and threw his across the room. Inu Yasha barely had time to bring up his sword to block the attack, only to be thrown across the room to join Koga on the floor. Slowly Sesshoumaru turned around, claws cracking as he turned to face Jessica and Kagome [who was clinging to Jessica for some reason].

And for some reason the only thing she could think of was, 'At least I won't have to worry about Sephiroth since I'll be dead by the time he gets here...'

And that's the end of this chapter. Please forgive me for throwing in a naked Koga.... For some reason it just sounds like something he'd do....
