Chapter 15: BAM!!!
~~~
Last time on As the World Turns… [Opps… wrong show…]:
Genesis suddenly came flying out of nowhere, missing Inu Yasha by inches as he slammed into the guard rail. Both of them winced as the man slammed into the opposite wall, leaving a man sized hole in the wall before he fell to the ground. Chunks of concrete hit the high way below, causing many drivers to swerve and crash.
"I think it's more important that we survive this..."
~~~
"Where's the other sword?" Inu Yasha quickly asked Jessica as he kept his eyes on the very pissed off Sephiroth in front of him. Jessica, from what he could guess, was still shocked that she had just watched someone slam into a concrete wall.
"Down there," Jessica muttered, pointing down at the growing number of cars pilling up on the highway below. She didn't need to look at Sephiroth to know he was pissed, she could feel it in her wing oddly enough. It was bad enough that the damn thing itched like a bitch, but the new feeling going through it was driving her nuts.
Inu Yasha huffed, he needed to get the other sword back or Sesshoumaru was going to kill him... in the most painful way. He had to think of a way out of this quick before something happened to the other sword… All they really needed was a distraction so they could get the other sword and at least stop Sephiroth for today.
Thankfully they didn’t have to wait long for one though. The moment Genesis pulled himself from the wall he was on Sephiroth, yelling that Jessica was a traitor and should die. Inu Yasha saw their chance and grabbed Jessica, yelling “Come on!!”
Jessica barely had time to turn to Inu Yasha before he all but threw themselves over what was left of the guard rail, just missing being hit by a stray thunder bolt. They landed with a crunch on the hood of a car, people running in all direction in order to get away from the falling concrete. The cars had finally stopped crashing into one and other, the wreckage more than a mile long going both ways. Once people got to what they thought was a safe distance they watched the fight from behind upturned cars, even those lucky enough to miss crashing got out of their cars and watched with muted fascination.
“We’ve gotta find that other sword!” Inu Yasha yelled over the noise.
“But I still have this one,” she replied, holding up the sword she had managed not to stab him with on the way down.
“These belong to Rin; if anything happens to them Sesshoumaru will kill me! As is he’s gonna kill me just for having them, but this way he’ll do it in the most painful way possible!!!!!” he yelled, clearly panicking over the sword’s loss.
Jessica looked down at the weapon in her hand in horror, almost dropping it in the shock. If they were Rin’s then Sesshoumaru most likely gave them to her… And if that was the case… Jessica decided to stop thinking at that point and help Inu Yasha find the missing sword. “Right, I’ll look over here…” She said, pointing at a random pile of twisted metal that had been a few cars a moment before.
She turned around to being looking when several explosions went off behind her, screams of terror sounding off in the distance. As she turned back she watched as flames shot upwards into the air. Somewhere in the back of her mind [where she was still thinking rational thoughts] she kept thinking that it had been causes by Sephiroth’s fire materia, while her panicking mind screamed that there was a car flying right towards her. Jessica threw herself to the ground as she realized what was happening, covering her pavement squished face with her wing in hopes of some protection. She could hear the sounds of other cars crashing into on and other again before the car that had been flying at her slammed into the car beside her, raining glass down on her. For a brief moment she wondered why she suddenly felt over-cooked but then she remembered the explosion. Which at the moment felt hotter than hell on a summer’s day.
Shaking the wreckage from her wing, Jessica turned her face to the side away from the glass. Her eye widened at bit as she caught a glint of light from underneath the car. Wedged under the front tire of the car next to her was Rin’s sword, undamaged from what she could see and shinning in the light of the flames.
“You okay Jessica?!” Inu Yasha yelled as he attempted to shield his eyes from the noise.
“Not really…” Jessica groaned. “But on a plus side I found the other sword.”
Inu Yasha sighed in relief. At least that was one problem solved, he thought, now we just have to finish this… Standing, he hefted his sword over his shoulder and watched as Genesis pulled himself out of the wall again. Not too far from them Sephiroth landed on the hood of a car, all three facing each other. They waited for someone to make the first move.
Inu Yasha, never a being of patience, lunged at Sephiroth, swinging his sword in a great arch towards the former general. The car split in half like a hot knife through butter, but Sephiroth was no longer there. Standing in the wreckage, Inu Yasha glared up at Sephiroth as he flew far above his head, black wing shinning in the light.
“Too slow half breed,” Sephiroth taunted.
While his eyes were trained on the black winged man above him Genesis attacked Inu Yasha from the side, almost unable to stop the attack in his carelessness. Inu Yasha pushed him back, using the sear size of his weapon to physically throw the grinning nutcase backwards.
“Kaze-no-Kizu!!!!”
The massive attack raced towards Genesis as he stared wide eyed, he had no idea the beast could use an attack like that. Genesis moved to deflect the attack only to watch as it split into three pieces. Using a wall materia, he was able to stop the attack long enough for him to take cover behind a car just as a barrier shattered. Inu Yasha smirked triumphantly and readied another attack in hopes of finishing off Genesis, but stopped. Sensing moment to his side Inu Yasha turned to his side just as Sephiroth appeared beside him and sent him flying.
~~~
Jessica smiled to herself, having finally worked the sword out from under the car. Which, by the way, was very hard when people were trying to kill each other a few feet from you. Pushing herself back up, she watched as Inu Yasha released the Windscar [it look a whole lot scarier in real life…]. Gripping both swords as she stood up, Jessica began to replay parts of her training in her mind.
Be mindful of your surroundings, object can and will come at you when you least expect them…
Ducking as Inu Yasha flew by she spared him a sympathetic glance as he crashed into the car behind them. Speeding up, Jessica raised one of the swords as she prepared to strike. Sephiroth, who was facing the other direction, caught the attack easily causing Jessica to grunt as their swords met. Jessica attempted to keep her head back away from the pointed end of the Masamune. Sephiroth stared at Jessica, unable to believe that it was his sister that met his blade.
Sephiroth will not be expecting you to fight him, so you must use that to your advantage…
Shifting her stance Jessica tried to shove the other sword, intent of shoving it through Sephiroth, but the added weight of her wing threw her off balanced and the tip of her sword only sliced Sephiroth’s shoulder guard as he dodged the attack. Sephiroth glared at his sister, his eyes focused on her as Inu Yasha jumped over head.
Sephiroth threw Jessica backwards to cross swords with Inu Yasha, eyes blazing with hatred for the half breed. The force of their two blades meeting all but threw Inu Yasha backwards, landing on the top of the car next to where Jessica had landed. Both sides were bleeding and beginning to tire. They needed to end this now.
“Do you know anything other than that shield thing?” Inu Yasha huffed.
“No, because nobody thought to teach me this kind of stuff!!” Jessica said between clenched teeth. For a brief moment the feathers on her wing puffed up in annoyance before smoothing back out. “And as is, I don’t even know if I can do that again!”
Huffing again Inu Yasha lifted his sword once more and said, “Then you better take cover…” Jessica opened her mouth to argue with the half breed but stopped as she caught sight of the blue fire swirling around his blade. As slowly as she could Jessica began moving backwards, not wanting to be caught between them and Inu Yasha’s Backlash Wave.
Sephiroth took to the sky and prepared to attack as Genesis pulled himself out of the rubble… again. By this time he had decided that he no longer wanted anything to do with the fight, so he only stood there off to the side waiting to see who would win. Both sides swung their weapons, ready to unleash their attack as a white hot pillar of light crashed down between them. Both fighters were thrown backwards by the force of the impact while Jessica and Genesis attempted to shield their eyes from the brightness. Inu Yasha pushed himself back off the ground, cursing loudly before noticing the light.
“Jessica did you…?” he asked as the shocked woman shot back her answer.
“No.”
“Then-?”
< b>THIS FIGHT IS OVER, a voice boomed. CONTINUE AND THERE WILL BE DIRE CONCIQUENCES…
Genesis had run for the hills the moment the smoke cleared, since he was smart enough to know when it was time to leave. Sephiroth on the other hand wanted nothing more than to kill the bastard half breed and take Jessica from this place, the sparks of unused magic jumping around him. He made to attack again but the light jumped to life again, stopping him mid swing. Feathers on his black wing began dropping off and turning into black smoke. Finally seeing that he was in a losing battle Sephiroth glared at them with barley controlled hatred.
Jessica sighed in relief as Sephiroth disappeared, she watched at the light began evaporating like smoke. For a brief moment the mist took a shape before completely disappearing.
Inu Yasha peeked over the side of the car, just to make sure it was safe when he saw Jessica. On any other day he would have thought the shocked look on her face would have been funny, but not today. Ears flat, he moved closer to Jessica, who was too shocked to know he had moved. “Was that what I think that was?” he asked.
“Yes,” Jessica answered, not taking her eyes from the spot where the light had been.
“Who-?”
“Michael.”
“How the hell do you know that?”
“Six wings.”
For a moment both of them were silent, taking in everything that had happened. Then Inu Yasha yelled out, “Lets get the fuck outta here before he decides to come back!”
Jessica snapped out of her stupor by the volume of Inu Yasha’s voice and looked around to see if there was anyone left in the area. “I hear that!” she answered, trying to rush over to Inu Yasha so that they could leave. She had no idea if he meant Sephiroth or the angel, but this point it no longer mattered. Plus Jessica was pretty sure they needed to leave now or she was going to bleed to death.
A pick-up truck all but ran into what was leave of the retaining wall, Laura and Bradley waving franticly to the two of them from the back. Seeing that Jessica was suddenly having trouble walking [How the hell did that happen? He asked himself], Inu Yasha threw the girl over his shoulder and jumped up and over the rail into the truck. Once in Jessica dropped down to the floor to avoid being thrown back out of the truck as Adam peeled down the street.
“What about Hojo?!” she yelled.
“He ran off after that light!” Laura answered.
Jessica once again sighed in relief as the weight of everything crashed into her. With no on coming helicopters over head or anyone else trying to kill them, Jessica fell into a light rest.
If there were any more problems Inu Yasha could deal with them.
~~~
Jessica woke up about an hour later as Tiffany applied super glue to the wound on her face, since they couldn’t take her to a hospital for stitches. Being half demon Inu Yasha was already healed and on the phone with someone from Enix, so to make Jessica feel better Derrick threw Laura’s phone at him. Inu Yasha, who was only on the phone at that time so he didn’t have to deal with his brother calling him and tearing him a new one, turned around to say a few choice words to the person... Only to catch Laura as she flew at him again.
So while Derrick did his best to explain to the person on the phone what was happening, Tiffany continued to patch up the now hysterically laughing Jessica. Poor Jay, having escaped the mad scientist by hiding under a car, thought Jessica was dying and started freaking out. So Tiffany moved to calm the little dragon down Adam continued to fix Jessica. In the end it took almost ten minutes to get Laura off Inu Yasha [since Bradley decided to help…] and by then he was missing most of his clothes.
Of course, by the time all this was said and done the battle was all over CNN. Inu Yasha still refused to answer his phone, but Roxxane ended up calling Adam [since he was the only person answering their phone] and told them that Sesshoumaru wasn’t mad about the fight… He was pissed that they got filmed thou. But there wasn’t anything they could have done to stop that. His brother seemed to think that they could have, but that was Sesshoumaru for you. Both Inu Yasha and Jessica knew they were going to be in a world of hurt when they got back.
None of Jessica’s friends wanted her to leave, since it was well known that she was going to have to go back to training, but after much discussion they decided that they were going to come back with her so they could give the demon lord a piece of their mind. Or course no one asked Jessica or Inu Yasha about the idea until they suddenly announced that they were coming with them the next morning. Inu Yasha told them no [it was more like ‘Hell freaking no, he’ll kill you’, but no one was listening to him…]. Even Jessica begged them not to come, since she knew Laura would start yelling at the demon lord… which would end in her being dead. But they couldn’t be stopped.
Which is how they ended up at the train station, everyone pushing into one corner while the group of on lookers stared at them in disbelief [most of them wondering if Jessica was the same person as the one on TV]. Jessica sighed, if it wasn’t for the fact that she had looked straight at the camera she could have played it off… But with her patched up face and her murdered hair there was no denying who she was.
“You know, you never told us how you learned how to make that shield…” Inu Yasha suddenly asked, breaking Jessica’s thoughts. A group of children walked up now, eyeing them with child like curiosity. But the look in their eyes said they weren’t afraid, the look they had was the look reserved for super heroes and such. Kids.
Wincing, Jessica sat up to take some of the pressure off her leg [no one knew how it got hurt still…] and answered, “After the first week training I realized that no one was going to help me figure out the…. extent of what I could do, so I started sneaking out at night to test some things. Nothing big, like flying or anything, but small things like moving rocks with a thought or trying to walk across water without getting wet.”
“Did it work?”
“Walking across the water?” Inu Yasha nodded, so she continued, “Not really, I kept sinking down once I got half way across the pond…” Jessica remembered the six pairs of socks that she went through before she finally stopped. Wet socks at midnight in the mountains are cold.
“Did you learn anything that we could have used yesterday?” Inu Yasha asked. He couldn’t blame her if she forgotten, considering she was in a constant state of panic the whole time, he was just wondering in case they could use it in the future.
“Well… I can kind of shoot lightning out of my finger tips… but I think that has something to do with Jay… It’s not a lot anyway, so I don’t think it would have helped much…” Thinking about it she realized that it might have helped when Genesis was trying to kill her… but the thought didn’t come up at the time. Oh well… next time. “Anyway, a couple days before that big report on TV about us came on I was trying to see how big I could make the lightning when this big bat came at me from out of nowhere and tried to attack me. So I put my hands up to try to smack it away. Then, BAM, it slams into a little blue shield… thing. Simple as that.”
“Why didn’t you tell anyone? I’m sure Kagome would have helped you…” After a moment’s thought he added, “…or at the very least you could have told me…”
“Would you ask for help?”
There was a long pregnant silence afterward, followed by Inu Yasha’s sheepish reply. “…Okay… you’ve got me there…”
“Besides, Kagome’s magic is… pure… while mine is… …” Jessica stopped, unsure how to use her words.
“Destructive?”
“Yeah, so I don’t think she’d help me much… But that’s okay; once I learned how to do it I couldn’t make it any bigger than a dinner plate without feathers popping out. So I stopped trying,” Jessica finished, watching as the group of kids tried to make their way towards the group. “I didn’t want to risk something happening just because I was messing around with things.”
Great… now Laura’s talking to the kids… this isn’t going to end well… Inu Yasha sighed to himself. Anything that had Laura’s hand in it couldn’t be good. He could smell trouble starting. “I still don’t understand why you couldn’t have said something…”
“Oh please, stop acting like some butt hurt puppy, it’s not a big deal.”
“… … … … butt hurt?” Inu Yasha asked, completely caught off guard by the comment. He didn’t even hear her call him a puppy.
Suddenly Laura jumped on top of a chair, stopping everyone’s conversations to give her their full attention. Oh good lord… please tell me she isn’t… Jessica thought as she watched her friend. “Okay peoples!!! I have an announcement!!!!” Oh no… … she is, Jessica thought as she tried to hide behind a now pale Inu Yasha. “Yes, this smexy lady here is the person that you’ll saw kickin’ all that ass yesterday,” she yelled, pointing wildly at the now extremely pale Jessica. There was a couple of collective gasps, but for the most part everyone stayed silent. “Her name is Jessica and that butt hole in the black leather pants just so happens to be her older brother! We can’t go into details right now, but don’t worry! Jessi is gonna stop Sephiroth and save all those people!!!!~!”
Jessica began backing away from the moving crowd, a sickly pale color now that Laura had announced to these people who she was. Everyone started asking her questions, none of which she heard in her panic. She had to think of an escape plan fast before the crowd jumped on her with their demand for answers. Then Inu Yasha, his head cover by a hat and his hair braided so no one would notice him, tried to stand between her and the crowd. She had the perfect idea. Jessica snatched Inu Yasha’s hat as fast as she could, his hair sticking up in a few directions as he stopped mid-shove. “Oh my god, look everyone it’s Inu Yasha!!!” she yelled, pointing at him dramatically.
Now that got more of a response out of the people. One minute there’s dead silence and then the next thing they know they’re being overrun by college fangirls [All of them going to UC Davis]. Jessica chuckled to herself as she walked over to the stopped train, ignoring Inu Yasha’s calls for help. She knew she was going to regret this later, but she knew when to fight her battles and when to run.
This was one of those times where you need to run like hell.

...This took forever to write [since I can't type at work anymore]. But the next chapter is finished; I just need to type it up. So hopefully I'll have it done by Thursday, if not at least by next week.
MM.org Review:
GreyPheonix: I agree on the why's of Mary Sues, though I've tried my best to stay away from writing them [which is why I stopped a few stories, because no matter how many times I re-wrote the story they ended up Mary-Sues... damn brain.]. My friends gave me a full template when I started writing fan fictions on how to avoid writing them, I've lost it in boxes since then but I still remember what it said... for the most part. That's why I write about people I know; me, my family, or friends because I knew how they acted and stuff like that. I'd do normal fics but I'd be accused of out of character-ness.... I'm glad you liked the battle, cause that took forever to finish... I hope it wasn't confusing... [another thing I'm accused of]. I hope this chapter explained the shield thingy... sometimes I forget to add things [which is why reviews help!], or the chapter gets too long and I wait till the next chapter to explain some things. And here's where the knee of death came in!
'Using both hands to hold her down, he glared down at her insanely as he watched her try to push his hands off herself. Using her wing to push herself up, Jessica managed to grab Genesis's shoulders as her knee connected painfully with a vital manly part. [otherwise known as the Knee of Death]'
And there you go, I how I answered everything!
