Chapter 5 is like chapter 3-it has a little part that's mine.

Chapter 5: First Rehearsal

Boo and Matt's band stood in a garage, tuning instruments or warming up their voices.

Boo pulled out her newest song and passed out music sheets. This one was written for her new friends. She had written it late at night. The name was: "Trust Me in Your Dark Times, Trust Me in Your Light".

Matt had to try the intro three times before he got it right. It was a slow song, but it would be a powerful one, when she got the song right.

"When trouble comes with silent wings, and the end seems near

Please don't worry, I'll be right here."

Boo lost herself in the song, so she didn't see Ken, Kari, and Chase enter. She felt some tears fall, but she didn't try to wipe them away. She ended the song quietly with the guitar behind her.

"I'll carry you home, feel no fear

When all is lost, I'll stay right here."

Chase clapped and startled Boo. Everybody else clapped too, even the band. Boo bowed and ran over to Chase and began speaking in English.

"Are you okay? Out of your bad mood? Do I get to know what the deal with the braces is?"

"Calm down! Yes, yes, and no. And you're-well, we're speaking in English, and maybe I'll tell you later. Maybe this weekend at Kari's house."

"You meanie."

Boo smiled at Ken and muttered, "Uh, chem. Test on Monday. I need to study."

"I could come to your house."

"I don't have one."

"Huh? Then where-"

"I live at the shelter. I work at the bookstore a few blocks from here."

"When do you want to get together?"

"How about after this last song? We'll leave then."

"Um, okay."

He smiled and his face turned a dark pink. Boo smiled and quickly kissed him on the cheek. His eyes got as big as dinner plates.

Everybody grinned and started teasing Ken.
