The bright sun shined in Vegeta's eyes, waking the Saiyan prince from his slumber. He rolled over, and bumped into…Kakarot? This was awkward. How did he end up here? Vegeta's head was pounding, and his memory was blurry as to the events of last night. The Saiyan tried harder to recall last night's events. His memory returned after a moment. Now he'd gone and done it. This was awful; he'd blurted out his true feelings, and told Kakarot he had really missed him not being around in his month-long absence. This enigma puzzled still Vegeta himself. The prince looked back on the moment when he embraced the other Saiyan last night. Why would Vegeta do that? He felt warm inside when he thought about it. Realization sparked a notion that startled the prince. Gods, that couldn't be right. With that Vegeta got up and went to his kitchen to find some food.

Goku woke to find himself in Vegeta's bed, and without the older Saiyan at that. The light-hearted Saiyan found the older Saiyan sitting in his recliner, with a glass of orange juice in his hand. The prince was just staring into space blankly.

“Is that one of those screwdrivers or just plain orange juice?” asked Goku suspiciously

Vegeta laughed before responding, “Don't worry, it's just orange juice…”

The older Saiyan finished off the orange juice and got up to put the glass in the kitchen's sink.

“Why did you stay?” asked Vegeta out of the blue.

Goku cocked his head to the side, confused.

“You asked me to…” responded Goku.

“I mean…what is your own reason for staying? Not just anyone would do that because someone asks them to.”

Goku gulped nervously before responding, “I don't know…”

Vegeta's eyes looked straight into Goku's, a spark of anger shining in them.

“Liar,” said the prince accusingly.

Goku backed away, now even more nervous. He didn't want to tell Vegeta the real reason why he would do what he did for him, because he didn't want to scare him off, or make him mad. The prince moved closer to the younger Saiyan, pressing him against a wall with a bit of force so he couldn't get away.

“Out with it. You're hiding the truth from me,” spoke Vegeta, almost nose to nose with the other Saiyan.

“Vegeta…I…I am worried about you. I don't want you to do something you'll regret and get yourself hurt, because I care about you. That is why I stayed…”

Shock. Confusion. Fear. Denial. All these emotions shot through Vegeta's eyes almost too quickly to catch before he released his lock on Goku and turned away.

“Vegeta?” The younger Saiyan feared the worst as it didn't seem the older Saiyan was pleased with the answer at all.

The prince ignored Kakarot and walked away. He went to his bathroom to take a shower. Goku decided to leave him be for now, and departed from Capsule Corp with the intention of returning later.

Hot water was running down the prince's body as he stood in the shower and just pondered what the other Saiyan had said to him. Why would he worry about Vegeta? Why did he care about him? Odd, mysterious and hard to place feelings ran through Vegeta's head. He felt like Kakarot was genuinely trying to help him, and be there for him. It wasn't because of an obligation or anything; it was because he wanted to be. The prince didn't know if he was ready for someone like that to be around yet or not. One thing was for sure; he was too lonely for words to explain when the younger Saiyan left him alone the first time, and though he didn't think he'd care that Goku wasn't there he realized the other Saiyan was the sole thing keeping him going. Nothing else could explain what had happened in the Kakarot's absence.

Later that day…

The Saiyan prince was lying on his couch, watching a movie called “King Kong” in which a giant ape attacked a city. He found it quite amusing as it reminded him of his days working for Frieza. Someone knocked on the door. Vegeta growled with annoyance. He hated being interrupted, but he reluctantly went to the door anyways. When he opened the door, he came face to face with his polar opposite.

“What are you doing here?” said the prince, disgusted.

Goku walked in, carrying a suitcase in his hands.

“I've come to stay with you. So, you won't be lonely or doing anything that you'll regret later on.”

“I'm fine. I can take care of myself, you know.”

“I'm not leaving, no matter what you say. You shouldn't be here all alone anyways.” Goku spoke with much determination. He wasn't going to let Vegeta win this argument.

“Whatever, Kakarot.”

Vegeta walked away and sat back on the couch. The younger Saiyan went and put his suitcase in the room next to the prince's and then came back downstairs to sit on the couch with Vegeta to watch the T.V.

“What ya watchin'?” asked Goku like an annoying three-year-old.

“A movie about you.” Said Vegeta sarcastically. Goku saw a giant ape rampaging the city.

“Not funny…” said Goku, while Vegeta snickered.

The younger Saiyan's stomach growled at that moment.

“Ugh…I'm hungry. When's supper?”

The older Saiyan pulled out a remote from his pocket, and pushed a button. A robot came out of nowhere, rolling in and stopping in front of Vegeta to hear his orders.

“Robot, make two Saiyan sized meals.” The robot rolled off into the kitchen and got busy preparing two meals.

“Wow!” said Goku.

“Shut up. And don't say I never did anything for you.”

Soon the supper was ready and the two Saiyans ate to satiate their humongous appetites.

“Man, that was good stuff for robot cooking.”

Vegeta let out a hmph, as if he was saying he already knew that, and went back to the couch. The prince sprawled out on the couch, taking up the whole thing. Goku stood and stared at him a moment.

“Hey, Vegeta, I wanna sit on the couch, too…” said the younger Saiyan like a whiny little kid.

“There's a chair, too. Sit in it.” Said Vegeta coldly while channel surfing.

“Veg-eeeeee-taaaaaaaaa….Pl-eeeeeeeeee-se?”

The prince started to get annoyed.

“Shut up!” he yelled at the younger Saiyan.

“I'll lay on top of you if you don't make room…” threatened Goku.

“The hell you will…” the older Saiyan called Goku's bluff, and didn't budge one inch.

Goku lay right on top of Vegeta just like he said he would.

“What are you doing?! Get off of me, Kakarot!”

“NnnnnnnO!” The younger Saiyan as he stuck out his tongue.

“Grr! How dare you do this to me!”

Vegeta pushed up on Goku, who refused to budge. At that very inconvenient moment, Trunks walked in the door. His eyes widened when he spotted the two Saiyans, lying like they were, on the couch. When Goku looked up and saw Trunks, Vegeta took the open moment to push him off of the couch; the light-hearted Saiyan bumped his head on the floor. The prince then sat up, crossing his arms like nothing had happened.

“Uh…What were you two doing?” asked Trunks, quite baffled.

Goku sat up and responded, “Vegeta wouldn't let me sit on the couch, so I had to fight him for it.”

“Uh…okay.”

Vegeta glared at the oblivious other Saiyan still sitting on the floor, who looked back and mouthed the word “what” like he didn't know what he'd done wrong. The prince just rolled his eyes.

“What's been happening around here lately? Everything okay with you, father?”

“Yes, I'm fine.”

“Okay. I just wanted to check up on you. I guess I'll be going now. Bye, father. Bye, Goku.”

Trunks made his exit, and right after he left the Saiyan prince filled the other Saiyan in.

“You idiot! This is great. Your little stunt made us look like we were grouping each other! Now my son thinks we're both gay!”

“So that's it? Did we really look like we were doing something like that?”

“Yes!” Vegeta got up and stormed off.

Goku debated following him, but the prince had only gone to his room, so there wasn't any need for concern right now.

Many thoughts, unwelcome, invaded Vegeta's mind as he lay awake in his bed. He'd shut all the windows and blinds, making it quite dark in the room now. The prince hid under his covers and stayed like that for awhile. Somehow he ended up with moist cheeks, and only then did he realize he'd been crying. Vegeta found himself pitiful like this. Even death would not reunite him with Bulma. At least in life he would not be suppressed like he would be in hell. He'd already been there a couple of times, and he didn't like it at all. Stupid Kakarot. He would meet Bulma again one day. In fact, he would probably like dying because he would get to keep his body and go wonder around in that stupid place, getting stronger. He was a pathetic excuse for a Saiyan, having spent his life going around and saving people. The door cracked open. Speak of the devil; there was that bastard right now. Vegeta hated him.

“Vegeta? Are you okay? I'm sorry about earlier. I was just joking around.”

You stupid fucker. I will kill you. Vegeta sided against saying that.

“Go away. Just forget about earlier I don't care about it anymore. Now leave.”

The prince was very angry and he had been crying and he definitely didn't want to be seen like this. He really hoped Goku would listen and go away.

“I'm not leaving, Vegeta. You need somebody to help you through the rough times like this. You need someone who you can talk to and relate to. I want to be that person. But you have to be willing to put aside your pride and let me inside your life for me to do so.”

“Did you hear what I said? Go the hell away. Now is a bad time.” The prince spoke softly but one could still hear the anger in his voice.

Goku refused to listen. Instead of leaving, the younger Saiyan crept under the covers with Vegeta, and slipped his arms around the Saiyan prince. The older Saiyan trembled at Goku's touch.

“Why do you do this to me?” asked Vegeta open-ended, not expecting Goku would understand what he meant or be able to give a viable answer to such an abstract question.

“I care about you, Vegeta. I don't care if you want to admit it, but you care about me, too. I can see it. I know you don't really want me to leave. Even if I didn't know, I also know you always say the polar opposite of what you really mean.”

That bastard is smarter that I give him credit for sometimes. That was a pretty good answer.

Vegeta wanted to stay like this even if he'd never admit it out loud. He relaxed and let himself get lost in Goku's arms. He was so warm… The younger Saiyan grabbed one of Vegeta hand's in his own, interlacing their fingers. Goku squeezed the prince's hand, as if saying “I'm here.” The older Saiyan squeezed back like he was thanking him. The wordless conversation spoke louder and deeper than any spoken words ever could.

Goku wanted to say something, but he didn't want to ruin this moment. In treasuring it a little longer, he drifted off to sleep.

Vegeta woke late in the night. He found himself with his head resting up against Goku's chest, and his arms embracing the other Saiyan.

How did we get like this? A week ago we weren't even talking, and now we're sleeping in a bed together in each other's arms.

Many thoughts were running through Vegeta's mind. It was apparent the prince was not alone in confiding in Goku to make up for his loss. He could see it clearly now; the younger Saiyan was doing the same thing with Vegeta. They were slowly filling each other's gaps in life. Vegeta couldn't bare to think about this anymore, so he got up and went out on his balcony.

The Saiyan prince stared up at the full moon. It still made him tingle on the inside to see a full moon, though nothing happened to him on the outside. On nights like this, violent memories of the prince's past flooded his mind, and that urge to be home again became very strong.

“Vegeta? What are you doing up?” Goku had woken and come out on the balcony looking for Vegeta.

“I don't know. I just woke up.” Vegeta spoke, still looking up at the moon.

“Can I ask you something?” questioned the younger Saiyan.

“What would that be?”

“Well, I know that we obviously age slower than humans, but how much longer do we really live?”

“That's right. You wouldn't know…Well, you and I will probably still be just as we look now well after we reach the age of 100…”

“That's amazing…”

“Not really. Maybe to a human, but I already knew I would outlive Bulma. I never was able to tell her. But, it surprises me both of our mates died younger than a usual human. What can you do, though?” The prince finally turned around and looked at the younger Saiyan. His features were highlighted in the moonlight, thought Vegeta.

The prince noticed Goku's hair was messed up from lying in bed, and reached out his hand to fix the younger Saiyan's hair on a whim, without really thinking.

Vegeta sighed. “Your hair has always been so crazy looking. I guess I should have let it be. I couldn't help it.” The prince laughed to himself.

“I thought it was cute that you tried to fix it…” said Goku warmly.

“Oh, be quiet, and let's go back to sleep,” said Vegeta, grabbing the younger Saiyan's hand and walking back in the bedroom with him.

The two Saiyans laid in the bed and got under the covers. Vegeta was facing away from Goku. The prince felt the other Saiyan's hand grab his shoulder and turn him around.

“Vegeta?” said the younger Saiyan quietly.

“What?”

“Goodnight,” said Goku sweetly.

The prince spoke back, “Goodnight.”

Goku leaned in closer to Vegeta and gave him a short kiss on the cheek before turning around and drifting off to sleep. The prince didn't have time to object, but he decided to just go to sleep himself and let it be.
