Chapter Ten
Creating a Bond
'HOW could I be so stupid?' Bulma berated herself. What was I thinking kissing Vegeta like that?
Well he did kiss me back. Oh, how he kissed me back. It was beautiful, passionate, powerful ... 'Stop it Bulma!' The last thing I need is to loose control with Vegeta. If he finds out my secret ... No! He won't. Because nothing like that will ever happen again.
Bulma sighed as she stood out on her balcony, the cool breeze ruffling her silky tresses and caressing her flushed cheeks. It was still bright so Gohan wouldn't be back for a couple of hours. Best go to the Lab and keep my mind occupied. Bulma thought.
While monitoring the basic status of all of Planet Vegeta's technology Bulma accidentally opened up a file that was a direct link to a satellite dish. As she was about to close the file one word froze her finger just above the button.
"Earth!" Bulma gasped in surprise. Vegeta had a satellite in Earths orbit and he never mentioned it to her! Why?
Without thinking anymore Bulma opened up the link.
"Oh Great Kai." Bulma whispered. She could see the entire planet Earth! She zoomed in and was rewarded with a clear view of an entire city. It wasn't very pretty though. She could see the damage Frieza's men had caused. Broken buildings, fallen trees and huge craters. Though she could also see people working on the repairs.
So no one had taken over Earth and the people were fitting back the pieces. Wow. 'I wonder if I can take this satellite to a city I know. A city I want to see.' Bulma thought as she typed furiously fast trying to accomplish her goal.
"Oh how sad." Bulma said to herself. "Since the satellite is a good distance away from Earth it has to rotate in Earths axis to find an exact location. So I'll just set the co ordinates now and in around about three days time I can see Master Roshi's island." Bulma said happily.
At least then I'll know what has become of the place and then I can set a course for West City. Bulma laughed happily. If she spent some time modifying the satellite she could send a message home. All she had to do first was find out if the cities were rebuilt and if the telephone lines were put up.
'But why wouldn't Vegeta tell me about this?' Bulma thought angrily. And what about Zoron? He must know of this! Some friend! Bulma fumed. Well I'm going to go and find out!
Bulma promised as she shut of the system, all thoughts of her earlier intimacy with Vegeta replaced with anger and hurt!
Only she turned around to walk straight into a muscular chest. Two strong arms came around to hold her steady.
"Bulma. Are you ok?" Maxum asked in concern.
"Oh I'm fine." She smiled sweetly at her friend. "What are you doing here? Did you need me for something?" Bulma asked.
"Actually I was looking for you. I have come to say good bye." Maxum said, the sadness apparent on every handsome feature.
"Good bye?" Bulma asked in confusion. "But I thought you were only due to leave next week." Bulma accused.
"Yes, that was the plan." Maxum smiled sadly. "But it seems that Vegeta has requested we help out a division of our army on Yardrack." He explained.
Vegeta, that dog. Bulma cursed. "When are you leaving?"
"Tonight."
"Tonight!" Bulma screamed. "But that's, that's ..."
"Now.". Maxum supplied as he laughed.
What was his problem? Bulma asked herself angrily. It's like he enjoys keeping her here when he knows she's miserable. Is that what he wants, to see her miserable. First he forces her to stay, then he withholds crucial information about Earth and now he sends away Max just because he doesn't like the word friend. What a jerk!
"Hey, don't look so sad. I'll be back." Max said as he hugged Bulma tightly.
"You better be." Bulma warned as she hugged him back. If I'm still here, she thought silently.
He was so tall compared to her that he had to lift her feet of the ground so they could hug more comfortably.
"I hate to break up this little tryst, but your men are waiting for you Commander." Vegeta's cold voice said from the door of the Lab.
Maxum and Bulma let go of each other as they said their last good byes and she gently kissed his cheek before he departed.
Vegeta watched their exchange would concealed rage. 'Just a little longer.' Vegeta told himself calmy. Then the green bean will be gone.
After the idiot departed he too turned to leave but was stopped.
"Where do you think you're going to?" Bulma asked. She sounded angry. Just great, he had to come and get Maxum off quickly! Well he hadn't planned on staying, in fact they only staying he planned on doing was far away from this woman.
"To bed." He told her without turning around.
"Look at me when I talk to you." Bulma yelled.
She was 'really' angry. Just because he sent Maxum away? Was Gohan wrong, did she have feelings for that idiot after all? Surprising how a woman with such a melodious voice could let out piercing shrill, Vegeta thought. Though he obliged her and turned around to look at her. He leaned against the door with his hands crossed at his chest.
Typical Vegeta look, Bulma thought nastily! Mr Calm and Collected. "Such a shame about Max's schedule hey. Especially since he and I had a date tomorrow." Bulma said sarcastically.
"Well the jobs of my warriors are more important than silly little dates." He replied. Though his voice sounded careful. He was wary, good!
"You know, on Earth dating is done all the time. Casual stuff, nothing serious. Just a get together between friends. Oh wait, I'm sorry, on this planet there is no such things as friends and dates because their ruler is a lonely jerk who wants everyone else to be lonely too!" Bulma yelled. But Vegeta just stared at her calmly. "Well, don't you have anything to say for yourself?" She demanded.
"I don't know if I should. It may not be wise." He teased her.
"Why you arrogant jerk. When were you going to tell me?" She asked.
"Tell you what?"
"About the satellite you have on Earth." She accused.
Shit. Vegeta groaned. That's what had her spitting fire. "Well as I'm sure you saw there was not much to tell. Six months is not a lot of time." He told her indifferently.
"I don't care if it has been six days or six years, I had a right to know. What did you think, that if Earth was taken over or destroyed I wouldn't want to know? Or maybe you thought I would want to stay on this stupid planet forever."
At his silence Bulma's temper went into overdrive. She had just been holding in too much. Bottling up all of her emotions for far too long.
The loss of her home for so long, the absence of her family and friends, trying to be a mother when she was a child herself, fighting of her attraction for this man and most of all living a lie! Everyday for the past six months she has been bottling up her feelings to the point where she was ready to explode.
"No, it's not your fault!" Bulma said which received a raised eyebrow from Vegeta. At least that was some reaction. She was tired of his stone cold act. "Gohan and I have learned to live this life. Which was very easy considering how you have ensured we want for nothing! So it's not your fault, its mine! I didn't want to seem ungrateful and throw all that you did for us back in your face. But I should have kept reminding you that we wanted to go home because even living the life of royalty in a Castle isn't worth having your loved ones with you." Bulma said as she felt the tears she had held back for so long wash over her face.
And still he stood there like an unmoving statue! Maybe she was wrong about him after all. Maybe it wasn't an act, maybe he really was a heartless bastard.
'What did you expect Bulma?' That he would wrap you in his strong arms and whisper words of comfort to you? A mocking voice at the back of her mind asked. Hell, he couldn't even have a normal conversation with anyone, how would he talk to a crying woman. Especially since he loathed tears.
"Never mind! You're hopless." She said as she ran to a large window of the Lab. Without looking back she flew out the window and into the night sky.
Vegeta loathed tears! It was the greatest display of weakness. But for some reason the sight of Bulma's tears, coupled with her anger and sadness and her words made Vegeta feel like the lowest kind of slime in the universe.
He let out a harsh laugh. He, the Prince of all Saiyans, the strongest warrior alive, a man who had no emotions, a man who wiped out entire races with his bare hands had felt ashamed of himself! All for not telling her about a stupid satellite he had instructed to be set up for her!
It was as if at that very moment he could feel her exact sadness, her pain and her confusion. It was most probably because she was so close to him and she had cried, he told himself. But it was more than that, they were already creating a bond between one another. It was just that the Saiyan Prince was too blind to see it!
"Well if this is what caring for someone either than yourself meant, then I don't like it." He muttered unconsciously as he too flew out the window.
