The Mysteries of Love:
Saiyan Obligation
Chapter Twelve
Surprises
HOPELESSNESS! That's how he felt as the cool water consumed him in it's unbreakable depths. He could not come up, he did not want to come up! The hopelessness he felt consumed him from inside as the water did his body on the outside!
Vegeta awoke, gasping for breath as if he had indeed been drowning.
"It was just a dream." He muttered. Only it felt so real and he knew it was not just a dream. Ever since that night six months ago when he had thrown Bulma into the lake he had been having the exact same dream. He remembered that night so vividly.
He had watched as the last of the ripples faded against the water, but still she had not resurfaced. He tried to sense her energy but instead he felt that feeling of hopelessness he had felt minutes ago. 'Damn.' He had cursed himself. The woman would put him in his grave before any battle did!
Of course as an Earthling the energy she put out was just as deadly as a Saiyan who had just been beaten to his limits. She was drained.
Without thinking any longer he jumped into the lake. He would never forget the sight of her floating helplessly to the bottom of the lake with her eyes closed. It was an image that would haunt him for ever! He had carried her limp body in his arms and returned to the Castle. After placing her in the Isolation Chamber to regain her strength, he had then showered before he met with Zoron.
"Is Gohan alright?" He had asked.
"Yes. Once I assured him that Miss Bulma was with you he was not concerned. He has retired for the night."
"Good." Vegeta said.
"If I may ask Sire, is everything ok?" Zoron had asked hesitantly.
"Of course it is." Vegeta said harshly as he paced the throne room lost deep in thought. "How long will it take to return them to Earth?" Vegeta asked as if the question was not unexpected.
"I estimate in six months from today." Zoron had said uncertainly.
"Good." Vegeta had said before he left the speechless advisor.
That day had come! Today Bulma and Gohan would return to their home planet and he would be free at last! Free of the desire that had plagued him for so long and most of all free of the weird emotions the woman was somehow projecting into him. He would give her what she wanted and how fitting that today was the day of her birth! Vegeta was sure no one could better his gift. He smirked at the thought.
* * *
Bulma sat on her balcony staring at the picturesque scene. She sighed. She had no idea why Vegeta wanted to see her today. It was strange since she had not seen him for six months after their last encounter, or should she say battle, at the lake. After his cold rejection he had been Kai knows where and had avoided her like the plague.
Well there was only one way to find out, she thought rather sadly as she was not looking forward to seeing him. After six months and she had still not mastered her feelings for him. If anything his absence had only made her feelings grow stronger. Strange, considering how he obviously did not feel the same way.
She had put on a brave face and happy attitude for Gohan's sake and luckily he didn't seem to notice any unusual behavior. But today it was harder to do so.
It was her birthday! She felt more lonely than she had ever felt before.
She had not wanted to tell anyone but unfortunately Gohan had accidentally let the fact slip to Zoron. Who then decided to make a big fuss over today. Zoron had said they would celebrate with a feast of all her favorite dishes from the Planet Vegeta.
She knew he meant well but she could not be happy about today when all those who cared about her were not here. She was turning twenty-one, what was considered as "coming of age" on Earth. It was supposed to be a joyous day, yet all she felt was despair.
A knock on her door broke her reverie as she moved away from examining herself in the mirror. "Come in." She called.
"Sorry to disturb you Miss Bulma but Prince Vegeta is ready to see you now. Zoron announced.
"Right." Bulma nodded nervously. She knew it was there was no point in asking Zoron what this was about as she had failed in getting any information from him for three days now.
Bulma walked slowly into the throne room to see Vegeta pacing as he always did. It was the first time she had seen him in six months. Her eyes quickly took in every detail of his muscular body, handsome face and spiky black hair.
Vegeta turned to look at Bulma. She looked sad, he could see it all over her once expressive face and her bubbly energy was replaced by a more subdued reserve. He did not like it at all! Well maybe he could change that!
He stepped closer to her. "It is time." He swallowed and forced himself to say the words his mouth did not want to form. "It has been a year and as you know Earth has been restored. Zoron has arranged everything. You and Gohan may leave as soon as you're ready, you can also take with you any possessions that were given to you." He finished quickly for fear that he would not be able to say those words.
Bulma stared at him in shock. She was going home? Gohan and her would be going home? They would hopefully see all their friends and family again! Was she dreaming? For somehow she was not as excited as she should have been. It must just be the shock, she brushed of her contradicting emotions.
Bulma continued to stare at the now frowning Vegeta.
"We can go home?" She asked quietly.
He nodded. The only response he could give at that moment.
As Bulma was trying to think of something to say Gohan entered the room. His face was alive with joy and from all the bouncing he was doing she suspected he knew.
"Is it true?" He asked simply as he looked from Bulma to Vegeta.
Bulma too could only nod as she tried to hold back her tears.
"Yeppy!" He shouted as he launched himself at her to wrap his arms tightly around her.
"I know they are in here! Let go of me please, I don't want to have to hurt you."
Vegeta, Bulma and Gohan turned to look at each other before looking at the closed door. Who was the owner of that familiar voice? Bulma thought.
Well she did not have to wait long to find out as the door crashed open!
"Bulma, Gohan." The man on the other side of the door said in open relief as he pushed away the men that were trying to restrain him, using just enough power to render them useless for a short while!
"Daddy?"
"Goku?" Bulma and Gohan said together as they looked at the tall man in astonishment as Zoron gaped at him with his jaw wide open and Vegeta took a bewildered step backwards.
