Chapter 10
Napa groaned quietly as he cracked one eye and blinked up at the bright sun in the sky… He hated this planet… those damn natives would be awake again in only a few hours and now he had to deal with Dodoria and his sadistic goons too? Could life get any worse? He was about to curse his absent prince again when he realized that no one had attacked him again yet. Where were Dodoria and his men? Napa stiffened when he heard them laughing loudly and not particularly close by either. He growled as his broken ribs protested but he managed to stagger to his feet, and hid in the rocks as he followed their voices around the outcropping.
"So… you've really got to tell me, Vegeta." Dodoria laughed. "Was she worth it? Or did you even fuck the little bitch at all?"
What the hell were they talking about???? Vegeta was here after all? Napa growled shaking his head helplessly as he wondered what little bitch they were talking about and when exactly Vegeta might have arrived. The huge Saiyan blinked in astonishment as he saw Vegeta- If his eyes weren't playing tricks on him, how long had he been unconscious? Dodoria had Vegeta pretty beat up… but why? The huge pink warrior had never made any effort to hide it that he hated all Saiyans but Napa hadn't ever seen him like this before. Dodoria always enjoyed hurting things, and the young prince was refusing to stay down and surrender.
"Still not going to talk?" Dodoria shrugged, cocking back his fist yet again, he attacked with a brutal uppercut. Vegeta was too injured to dodge, hell, Napa growled, he was just barely standing, it almost looked as if they were really trying to kill him… A hundred thoughts swept through Napa's mind and he could only wonder why Dodoria would think he could get away with this- Frieza would be furious if anything happened to his favorite Saiyan. "Did Frieza ever actually tell you who that girl is?"
Napa wasn't even sure if Vegeta had seen the gloved fist coming, and he tried but couldn't get back up this time. The older Saiyan swore under his breath, he wanted to know what in the hell they were talking about, but he knew that the next punch would probably kill Vegeta, and Dodoria looked just crazy enough to hit him again too... 'Napa!'
'Napa. Wake up damn it.' The huge warrior stopped looking around and blinked as he realized he had heard Vegeta's voice in his mind. 'If you are done examining your eyelids I need you to create a moon orb- see if you can take his team out quickly. But leave Dodoria to me. Do it!!'
There wasn't time to argue about it, Dodoria wouldn't be surprised enough to panic if they transformed, so Napa could only hope Vegeta was still healthy enough to crush him once and for all as an Orrazuu. Napa crept down the outcropping of rock and hoped that their scouters wouldn't pick him up as he summoned the energy to create the false moon. The glowing sphere made of pure Ki looked enough like a real moon that Napa felt his tired body start to rejuvenate itself as he held it for a moment wondering how he had been lucky enough to have practiced creating it once before. All at once, the ball of Ki seemed to absorb and trap the light of the sun itself as it rose high overhead, creating false night and with it, Napa felt the blood in his veins begin to boil and seethe with the power and feral rage of an Orrazuu. His first instinct was to roar at the moon and stomp off wildly destroying everything, but he sensed energy even more keenly than normal- and right now Vegeta needed him.
Dodoria's fighters were bewildered by the sudden darkness and the silver ball in the sky and Napa smirked coldly as he stood up to his full height and fired an energy beam from his mouth at them. None of them dodged in time. But with Dodoria's huge body leering down over him, Vegeta hadn't been able to see the orb to transform and in the time it had taken Napa to dispose of his henchmen, Dodoria had grabbed Vegeta's tail…
**
"Tell me why you are doing this now." Raya said softly as she appeared next to the door, already inside of Zarbon's room. He sat in the large swivel chair behind the desk across the room staring contemplatively at a view screen displaying only Frieza's crest. He didn't respond, so she sighed and sank into his lap on the chair and rested her head on his shoulder. "Zarbon, I know you aren't stupid and I know you aren't crazy. So why are you setting yourself up as the torchbearer now? The Saiyan Prince is barely 18 and the Alliance of Shadows is non-existent. Frieza will do much worse than kill us, if we fail to overthrow him..."
"I don't know if I can explain it, Raya. I just… know that it's time. I feel it." Zarbon's eyes searched hers calmly for a moment, before he sighed and looked away. "I was there, I was in Frieza's throne room when Omegus was brought in and Frieza questioned her about his destiny. I was there when the first of the prophecy was made. It's like she burned it into my memory and my consciousness, because no matter how many times I tell myself that it's crazy and I know I can't do it- I have never stopped thinking about it and working for it… There were times I swear she was speaking only to me, even thought she never looked at anyone but Frieza."
"Tell me what happened that day, what you remember of Omegus and what she said."
"I'd rather show you."
"Show me?" She sat up and looked at him with surprise. "But I thought that Saurians…"
He kissed her lightly to interrupt her. "We normally don't share thoughts with anyone not of our race, because if we do, then someone might learn more about us than our elders might have liked… I know I can trust you, I just want you to know you can trust me, Raya. I know I've kept a lot of things from you in the time that we have been lovers, Raya, and I'm sorry, but I didn't have much choice. I just had to be sure that the timing was right."
"Well, I don't know how your people share memories, but I know how it works among my people." She closed her eyes, her lips brushed lightly against his, but the sensation seemed to vanish as she saw herself through his eyes… She had worked all day and while her duties weren't particularly demanding, she hadn't even consulted a mirror before coming- much less spent the day primping as his thoughts seemed to suggest. She had to smile at how beautiful he found her; her eyes were so blue that sapphires paled in comparison, and her long, unruly mane of glossy black curls looked like black silk to her now. 'You always see me this way? I like this better than a mirror,' she sent in her thoughts. 'I find you very beautiful as well- although my favorite vision of you doesn't come with clothes, my love.'
He didn't answer, but he did blush a little and he looked away from her eyes even as he directed his thoughts to the past. She found his embarrassment adorable, but she let her thoughts follow his into the past. Frieza's throne room was large and crowded, light glinting off the polished metal walls made it bright, but the room was still cold. The little boy stood quietly next to Frieza's throne, watching the soldiers and mercenaries milling about as they waited for Frieza's latest 'guest' to arrive…
"Keep your chin up, Zarbon, you are still a prince- even though I was forced to deal rather harshly with the resistance of your people. It is unfortunate that no one knows the whereabouts of your mother and your brother, but they won't get far. Don't worry, Zarbon, you won't be lonely long."
Raya shivered involuntarily at Frieza's choice of words and felt as if she were nodding even as she fought back tears as he turned his head and looked into Frieza's garnet eyes. Raya shivered, she had only actually seen Frieza in person three times, and he was so coldly intimidating that she couldn't understand how Shinesta could let him near her much less let him touch her and she had seen the two of them argue- Raya doubted a monster like Frieza was capable of love- but the feelings or the attraction that had drawn him to possess the Elven Empress were very strong or she would never have survived so long in his presence … although at that moment, she was also frightened of the tyrant for the sake of the handsome little boy that Zarbon had been. The child didn't have a chance to answer him though; for a petite, hooded figure in a black velvet cloak entered the throne room flanked by younger versions of Captain Ginyue and Dodoria.
Less than four feet tall, carrying a slim staff only slightly taller than she was, the oracle pulled back her hood slowly. Omegus had extremely dark blue skin. It made her look almost black skinned except under the strong light near his throne where a lavender-blue showed through. Her ears were sharply pointed and her hair was like a cascade of molten silver, with eyes like honey amber. She had heard tales that the ancient seer was rumored to be some sort of an Elf… but Raya wouldn't have guessed the wildest rumors she had heard were true- Omegus was a Darkling…
"So, this is the Oracle that brought down my great grandfather…" Frieza chuckled. He leaned forward on his throne, leering down at the tiny female. "You don't look very powerful to me, Omegus."
"Even the smallest person should never be underestimated, or would your own size be of an indication of your own capabilities?" The little female purred, her soft, musical voice seemed to echo through the room with a whisper of child-like laughter and her gaze didn't faulter as she locked eyes with the tyrant. "Surely the great Lord Frieza understands that size doesn't matter. Besides I only told your great grandsire the truth. He went against my advice and he died for his mistake. But I am certain that Lord Frieza is wiser than his forbearers, with a power level of twelve million, no one can doubt your intelligence and power."
"I know what my power level is, woman. I want to know how large and powerful my Empire will become."
"Would you ask me for the name of each place that will either bow down before your might, or be destroyed by it? Does it please you to know there will be hundreds, even thousands? Or would you rather know the name of the one place where you will fail?" Omegus smirked as those surrounding them dared to gasp, but her eyes didn't look away from those of Frieza.
"You can't speak to Lord Frieza that way! He can't…" Sputtered a burly guard, advancing on the little prophetess, but her staff swept down in a graceful motion to catch his foot and he lay on his back with the pale blue crystal on the end of her staff only an inch from his nose... but the guard was most afraid to see that she was still looking at Frieza, even her body wasn't turned to effectively pay attention to him.
"My knowledge will never tailor itself to your whims. I will not be one of your cheap pawns, Frieza. You brought me here to do as your ancestor did, to mock me? How dare you let your mindless soldiers challenge me. You want me to tell you pretty lies? I cannot. My powers are real. I know what the future holds, and I can see into the past as well. Already there is blood on your hands. But there will be more. Oh yes, there will be oceans of blood." The little Seer told Frieza with a smirk, and she went on to say more, the poetic verse seemed to rumble throughout the silent chamber like distant thunder.
"The cold hand lies impatiently, waiting on the knife hilt
Absent of life and continuous rape,
Ignominy awaits those succumbed to Frozen Tyrant's wrath.
Burning towns, burning skulls agape,
Their silent screams echo as if trapped in their blood bath.
All shall ever more be ripped and torn
Broken limbs lie in rows, eyes hanging from heads
Warrior Prince and Alliance of Shadows suffer your scorn
Soon, even Angels join the legions of the dead."
Omegus was silent for a long moment. She raised her staff above her head, closing her eyes for a moment. The guard she had held pinned to the floor, stayed low, but scrambled back away from her and yet no one laughed at him, most couldn't look away from her, not even to notice his movement. Omegus slowly lowered her arms and her staff, her eyes were still closed and she remained still for so long that everyone was starting to look around at everyone else in confusion- but no one broke the strange silence before she opened her eyes. Once again she looked directly at Frieza, and smirked.
"The Frozen Tyrant shalt inherently fail
The universe shalt never be under his control.
Only do mine eyes see the end of this tale
The lust of war shalt take its toll
Carnage, hate, hopelessness, despair
Death and purging cannot stop fate
On all sides the emotions shall flare.
Yet the Frozen Tyrant must sit and wait
For there art those who will still fight
The Alliance of Shadows and its Warrior Prince
For it is thee, O Frozen Tyrant, they lie to bite
The blood on their hands, they cannot rinse
Thine own life shalt be in peril, for the Torchbearer is the herald of thy doom
The warriors, thou hath, shalt be useless
No one can stand against time and its gloom
For thine own self, thou must be liable
Depths of war, chaos of war cannot hide the one
The Golden Prince, the Legendary has come!
The Legendary Golden Saiyan, oh! What fun!
Standing with the Alliance
Crimes against all, crimes against life art all that thou hath bequeathed
It is now time for defiance
Planets once thought under control, as key players will rise
Revenge is nigh by the Frozen Tyrant
The Alliance of Shadows will see his demise
It hath begotten by the new takers
With time all planets fall, species as well
No more shalt be taken by the next of blood
Doth thou enjoyest thine own Hell?
Thou hath brought it by thyself, the blood of thine doth flood
The darkly bright, brightly dark death doth come
For now, Death hath picked its master.
Thou art the one, thine rise is at hand.
But slowly the End comes, then ever faster
Canst thou survive foretold disaster?"
Raya realized she was shaking as the vision of the past faded. She had heard the words of the oldest part of the prophecy many times before, but never like that. They were well known throughout the Empire. Even many peaceful religions had adopted those words into their holiest writings and revered them as cherished hope for the future and the promise of freedom as though it had been offered by their own gods or prophets. Reclusive and scarcely seen since the deadly assassin known as Striker saved her from Frieza's throne room, Omegus and a handful of her fellow Priestesses from the Order of the Sightless Eye secretly moved about the Empire to avoid the army of mercenaries Frieza had sent after her. Slowly more pieces of the prophecy surfaced about every two years after that, but no one knew what to say as to whether these additional parts were actually Omegus or a clever equally insane copycat, and even more confusing, no one knew all the parts of the prophecy- if there actually was more… But before Zarbon released her thoughts from his, she felt the presence of Omegus from his thoughts once again, and looked into her amber eyes as she spoke more vague words, mischief and insanity danced in her gaze, but even so, Raya could feel the power of the oracle.
"You are the only one who can carry out my prophecy, for you are the only one who shall know all the parts of the prophecy I have begun tonight. Yes, little Saurian, you are the only one who can bring down the Empire. You will be the torchbearer. You are the one who was meant to light the way. You will find the legendary. Yes, you will find him and train him to do what no one else can. Frieza will meet his end at the hand of the Super Saiyan, but only if you can guide him. He needs you even after the battle, you will lead the One and his Empire into an age of peace. Frieza will train you well, intending to keep you his right hand, his pawn for all time, but you will never forget the promise that you made to your father. A great destiny awaits you, Zarbon. You are still young and small, but you will grow, and Frieza will never corrupt or break your spirit, because you now know that you are the herald of his doom. Shh little one. I know you have questions, in time all of them will be answered. Trust in yourself and never forget the words I have given you."
"I almost don't dare to believe it. Amazing. She chose you. But in a way it makes sense- her methods and her insanity… Omegus was a Darkling, an ancient ancestor of my people. Since the birth of the first Gold and Silver elves, Darklings have always been rare, but as we grew to have less in common with them, my people began to fear them for their powers, and their appearance and we finally drove them away from our worlds. Among their powers were said to be precognition, telepathy, empathy and energy control and disruption, and with those, they had magic as well, together these made them more fearsome than the evil race that existed in our world at the same time that the Darklings helped us to banish. Before Frieza's great great grandfather recruited her into his council of advisors Omegus was probably just lonely. Since their exile the Darklings are said to have become reclusive and bitter. Some say that Omegus was an ancient Darkling sorceress that an evil summoner revived but couldn't control, or she could be the youngest of the surviving Darklings, either way she is powerful and no one, even in our Empire really knows where she came from or how old she actually was. I had heard that she was an Elf of some sort- but to have her turn out to be a Darkling… I always found it sad that she was driven insane… The Ice-Jin had no right to torture her- all she did was tell the truth. I still find it odd that Frieza was the one who freed her, but he didn't do it out of kindness, did he?"
Zarbon sighed. "No. He has always had this need to prove that he is stronger, smarter, more powerful than everyone thinks. Like when his brother told him that he was too young to reach his fourth form, Frieza went and trained until he proved Koola wrong. So, I'm sure Frieza was surprised that she was alive, but he knew who she was, so he had her released- I'm sure he thought he could use and control her as his great great grandfather couldn't. She asked to be left alone for two hours. Frieza agreed and let her use his room on the ship… with her magic or something she healed herself in that time- we expected her to be horribly disfigured under that cloak after what was done to her- but you saw her- she was beautiful."
"On the outside, but all she had to live for was revenge against those ho had imprisoned her 500 years earlier. She was toying with Frieza- even though he saved her, she mocked him. He could've killed her easily but she knew he wouldn't so she used his patience against him, it is hard to believe that it was Striker who saved her."
"Striker is an assassin, but he doesn't like the Ice-Jin any more than Omegus did. King Kold betrayed him, so now he is not only a hunted fugitive, but he's trapped in this dimension, he was brought here to dispose of a few of Kold's enemies rather than pay the man and send him home, he tried to have him killed. Striker has been here for over a century and his powers seem to be growing rather than waning. I believe he is a human but he is much older than that and he's a part of her prophecy. She calls him the Soul Stealer and he is one of the warriors who is meeting with my younger brother in Marshan right about now."
"What do you mean?"
"The Alliance of Shadows is about to be born in Marshan."
"But why aren't you there? Omegus wants you to be the torchbearer, because of the way Frieza killed your father and…"
Zarbon laughed. "I am the torchbearer. But I have to be here because Vegeta is not strong enough for me to try to train him yet and that means Frieza still has too big an advantage. My brother knows what I want him to do. She said I would know what to do and right now I have to let the Alliance remain in the shadows, so I have to be near Frieza. Besides Raya, Omegus is gone now. She finished her prophecy, and died peacefully early yesterday evening."
"WHAT? Omegus is dead?"
"Yes. She wanted me to know it too, I felt it when she died."
"But how?"
"I can't explain it, Raya. I always thought I was as crazy as she was until last night. I can't explain it but I know that it's time for me to start pulling strings. I know that the Alliance will be formed and I know that Vegeta is the one. I don't know how in the bloody hell I'll convince anyone else at this point but I know that it is time to start the Alliance. And you may as well know he will be expecting me early tomorrow so what do you say we use our lips for something else for a while…"
"You are with a Priestess of Love, who is also trained in sorcery, Zarbon. We have all the time in the universe for lovemaking, but, alright, the sooner the better." She giggled kissing him playfully only to have him pull back.
"W-what?"
"The Empress isn't the only one who can use magic to manipulate time, Zarbon; She and I were raised together we had all the same tutors- why are you so surprised? I just never told you I was doing it before." Raya purred mischievously. "And if Shani is going to marry Prince Vegeta, it sounds as if I really ought to teach her to do it too."
"So the two managed to stop fighting at some point?" Zarbon laughed, letting the tiny elf straddle his hips. "I didn't think Vegeta would hurt her, but they didn't seem to get along very well from what I saw..."
Raya giggled. "Well, not to worry she tells me they did have at least one thing in common… but speaking of fighting, I still can't believe Shani saw Vegeta punch Dodoria to protect her."
"W-what? Dodoria threatened her??…"
"Yes, she said that Dodoria threatened to rape her- and Vegeta hit him…"
"HE WHAT??" Raya found herself sitting on his desk and Zarbon barking commands over her shoulder at a third shift communications officer that looked way pretty sleepy. The elf arched one eyebrow in curiosity but said nothing as she sat up to listen in to whatever he was going to say over the screen. She was used to listening in on things like this that demanded his attention during their time together, but he didn't usually rush to toss her aside, so this time she was actually curious what was wrong. "Get me Dodoria! NOW!"
"I'm sorry, Zarbon sir, but he isn't answering his scouter."
"Then override its manual shut off and tell him to get his ass back to his pod."
"But sir… he is on a mission and the fighting could be too heavy for such a distraction…"
"Not likely, Dodoria is too strong to be seriously hurt by any of the creatures native to that planet. He shut down the scouter because he doesn't want anyone to find out what he's up to."
**
Dodoria growled. "You thought you were so clever using the orb, didn't you? Well sorry Vegeta, but I'm just not going to let you look at it. And as for you, Napa, you big furry moron, you had better return to normal or Vegeta will be missing his tail all together. I'm tired of hearing about honor and justice and all that shit. Saiyans and honor?? It's ridiculous. How the legendary is going to get rid of Frieza and save the universe when he can't even hope to beat me?? Omegus is just a crazy old bitch, Frieza's great grandfather should've killed her when he had the chance. Then we wouldn't have had to listen to that damned prophecy, Frieza wouldn't be so fucking paranoid and I'd get to be out on more missions rather than watching Frieza's back. There hasn't even been a decent party in ages with the weaklings like you leading the missions, Vegeta."
"Perhaps if you weren't so stupid, Dodoria, you'd know that those parties you enjoy so much are unnecessary in the first place. Most women actually like sex; you just have to let them enjoy it with you." Zarbon's accent came across Dodoria's scouter, sounding angry and commanding, leaving even Dodoria speechless in surprise- and fear. "You will report to your pod immediately. I want to see you on the screen. And, Dodoria, if you make me wait longer than two minutes, I will assume that Prince Vegeta is already dead and that you have betrayed Lord Frieza and must be hunted down and destroyed with your men."
"Z-Zarbon?? I… I'm kind of in the middle of something, rig-"
"So I heard, idiot, I want to see you on the screen now, I don't want excuses."
"Zarbon- I- You don't understand- I can't just- Napa is in Orrazuu and Vegeta…"
"Isn't particularly sensitive to having his tail pulled anymore, you bastard." Vegeta growled, and there was the hint of a smirk in his voice as he rose to slam his elbow into Dodoria's chin. The huge pink warrior growled and spat, but before he could move, Napa's massive hand grabbed Dodoria and held him while Vegeta took his scouter, since his own had been destroyed by Dodoria. "Just out of curiosity, Zarbon, what did you want to talk to the marshmallow about?"
"Vegeta?" Zarbon actually sounded relieved, much to Vegeta's surprise. "Look, I don't know how you managed to pull an Orrazuu Napa out of your hat on that planet, but I assume that he has something to do with the fact that Dodoria didn't kill you for punching him?"
"How did you find out about- The girl told someone about that?" Vegeta was surprised.
"Yes, the princess was upset enough that Dodoria threatened to rape her that she told her mother's hand maiden, who told me."
"Let me talk to him for a minute." Vegeta arched one eyebrow hearing the sweet female voice on his scouter who spoke with the same accent as the Princess in question. "Hello? Vegeta? I wanted to thank you for taking such good care of our princess. Although I must warn you she apparently wasn't as impressed with your conversation as she was with your love making. She asked me to inform you that she doesn't want to marry you. Not that she actually has a choice, I suppose…"
"My Prince… what is going on here??" Napa demanded, forgetting that at his present size his voice would be incredibly loud.
"It is a long story and I'll tell you later. Zarbon, what do you want done with Dodoria?"
"Was he trying to kill you?"
"I think he was going to decide as he went along, but honestly I don't care about that. I'd kill him just so I don't have to listen to him bitch about there being a shortage of helpless females to rape. You decide, you'll be the one that explains it to Frieza either way I'm sure."
"In that case, kill him. If he is going to betray you he can't be trusted to watch anyone else's back either. Dodoria was assigned to help you clear De Arran, and then go to Killjarra and destroy them as an example of what happens when you mislead Frieza. You may as well assume his duties, and yes, I will explain to Frieza what has happened... in the morning."
Notes… I had hoped to have this chapter done ages ago, but there were problems… mainly in my personal life- my father has been fighting a tough battle with Alcoholism for more than 10 years and in October he had to go back in for more therapy when he fell back into the bottle as it were… and then two days before he was released from treatment my grandmother passed away.
