Chapter 5: Watching Eyes

Ryo woke up with a groan, glancing at his clock. It read 8:00am. “Kuso! I must have slept through the alarm,” he told himself. He rolled over carefully, expecting to find a snoring Berkeley beside him, for Berkeley never got up on time. Instead, he found an empty space that had not been slept in. He panicked for a moment, until he remembered what had happened the night before. Closing his eyes, he started to tremble as the memory of Berkeley trying to force him into sex came back full force. It was just like that time in the academy, when Takashi….no wait it was nothing like that. Berkeley loves me, he didn't just want me for sex. I had lead Berkeley on, not thinking of anything but my own pleasure, knowing that I couldn't go all the way. My fault, again.

Ryo sighed out loud and rolled out of bed. After washing up, he shuffled into the kitchen, intent on making some coffee. He looked into the living room and noticed that Berkeley was asleep on the couch, still dressed in the clothes from the night prior. Ryo walked over to the couch and knelt down beside his sleeping lover. He couldn't help but notice the stench of alcohol and smoke surrounding Berkeley.

“Koibito?” Ryo said lovingly, shaking Berkeley's shoulder. “You have to get to work soon. Please get up.”

Berkeley groaned and rolled over, not wanting to wake from his dreams. Besides, he had a massive hangover and all he wanted to do was sleep it off.

“Berkeley, you really have to get up. You have only fifteen minutes to get ready. Please koi,” Ryo shook Berkeley more roughly, knowing how hard it was to get Berkeley to do something he didn't want to do.

“Okay already! I'll get up! Just stop acting like my friggin' mother.” Berkeley growled, not happy with Ryo at all.

Ryo moved back, feeling as if he had just been slapped. “I'll….I'll go get your coffee.” Ryo blurted out before dashing back into the kitchen. Leaning against the counter, tears started falling again as he waited for the coffee to be ready. Not hearing Berkeley enter the room, Ryo started in surprise when a pair of arms suddenly encircled around his waist.

“I'm sorry, Ryo. I didn't mean to upset you. I just don't feel well this morning.” Berkeley said, resting his chin on Ryo's shoulder.

“It's okay, koi, I know you didn't mean it.” Ryo turned around and leaned against Berkeley. Grabbing Berkeley's collar, he pulled him down for a gently kiss. Taking a deep breath, Ryo turned back around and poured Berkeley a fresh cup of coffee. “Here you go.”

“Thanks Ryo,” Berkeley took a sip of coffee and set the cup down. He walked out of the kitchen and into the washroom where Ryo could hear the start of sounds of running water. Ryo sat down at the table, hands clasped around his mug, staring off into space. He wondered what he was going to do that day. He rarely had time to himself, he was either at work or with Berkeley. Maybe he would relax for the morning, then go surprise Berkeley for lunch.

All of a sudden, Ryo felt a prickly sensation, as if someone was watching him. He quickly turned around, expecting to see Berkeley behind him but no one was there. “Baka, stop imagining things,” Ryo said out loud to himself but still couldn't feel reassured.

“Talking to yourself?” Berkeley asked with a grin, smirking as he walked back into the kitchen to hear Ryo talking to himself.

Ryo jumped at the sound of Berkeley's voice, quickly regretting the fast movement as a sharp pain twinged in his back. “Berkeley! You startled me!” Ryo said, rubbing his back. “I thought I felt someone watching me but I was just imagining things.”

Berkeley walked over to Ryo and began rubbing his shoulders, noticing Ryo's obvious pain. “It's probably out to the stress you've been feeling baby. That's all.”

“You're right, koi.” Ryo sighed. Berkeley really knew how to use his hands as his back muscles were starting to relax, but he had to leave for work. “Thanks,” Ryo said, standing up, “But you have to get to work.”

“I know,” Berkeley replied, “But, one last thing before I go…” Berkeley tilted Ryo's chin and pressed his lips against Ryo's, his tongue asking permission and gaining entry.

Ryo moaned as Berkeley made love to his mouth and felt the beginning of Berkeley's arousal. Scared of it going to far, Ryo pushed Berkeley away. “Sorry koibito, but you have to go.”

Berkeley sighed, thwarted again, “Okay Ryo.” He picked up his briefcase, grabbed his coat and walked out the door.

Ryo felt relieved that Berkeley didn't push further with their kiss. He sat down on the couch and started to prepare himself for a day of relaxation by opening the day's newspaper.

A pair of binoculars were lifted from Takashi's eyes. “So, my little Ryo, things aren't all great with your boyfriend. So sad. Well, maybe the fun that me and you are going to have will make up for it.” Takashi grinned, the thoughts of forcing Ryo to submit to him again ran through his head, sharpening his own arousal. “Soon, Ryo, soon.” Takashi promised.

“So what should we do?” JJ. asked Dee as he paced back and forth across the room. Dee was sprawled in a chair, watching JJ. and becoming quite dizzy. For the last half hour in their office, the two had been debating on whether or not to tell Ryo about Berkeley's “excursion” the night before.

“I think we should wait,” Dee concluded. “After all, it might have been perfectly innocent. Yeah right, Dee thought to himself. Berkeley seemed like the type of man who screwed others on the side. The rumours of Berkeley's reputation seemed to be coming true. The other day when he went to go investigate where Berkeley was when Ryo was in surgery, all he found out was that he was with some FBI investigator, a female one, all day. There was nothing to suggest sexual implications, but Dee had his suspicions, suspicions that he hadn't yet shared with JJ. “Besides, Randy and Berkeley have been together for over 3 years. We don't want to mess their relationship up if nothing really happened.”

“You're right, Dee. Promise me though, if something else happens, we'll tell him, okay?” JJ. asked, not wanting something else to happen but realizing the possibility existed.

“Okay, I promise.” Dee replied, feeling bad. He was already keeping that “something else” a secret. But for some reason he couldn't bring himself to tell JJ. “So we have two hours until lunch, want to go check up on these cases?” Dee asked, holding up two files.

“Sure, let's go now.” JJ. said, “And by the way, how does Capers (1) sound for lunch?”

“Perfect,” Dee smiled.

Ryo took the subway to the 26th precinct, still not feeling quite right. All morning, it had felt as though someone else was watching him. So instead of walking to the precinct alone, he decided to take the subway, which is always quite populated. He walked in the front doors, nodding to the officers at the front desk and heading towards the stairs. Berkeley's office was on the third floor. Upon reaching the third floor, he ran into Sam, his old partner after Berkeley had been promoted.

“Hey Sam, how's it going?” Ryo asked, trying to be friendly. When he left the precinct, Sam wasn't too happy, for he had been assigned a rookie as his new partner.

“Better here than at the 27th, I hear. Messed up on a case with Takashi, huh? Not the best way to start a job Randy.” Sam sneered, glaring at Ryo. With that, Sam turned and walked down the stairs.

Ryo just shook his head. So news of his screw-up were already circulating, just what he need. Oh well, Sam and him were never the “bestest” friends to begin with and besides, his two new partners are great.

Ryo continued on down the hall and stopped in front of a door with the heading “Commissioner”. Ryo smiled, a reminder of what a great man he loved. He knocked on the door and waited. No one answered. He knocked again, a little louder. Still, no one answered. Ryo tried the knob and to his surprise, it was unlocked. He slowly opened the door and peeked inside, “Sorry for interrupting, but…” he stopped when he noticed that no one was in the room. Inching back, he slowly shut the door and turned around, only to run into the man he was looking for, Berkeley.

“I was…I was worried when no one answered…so I…” Ryo tried to explain but couldn't find the right words. He cleared his throat and tried again. “Anyways, want to go for lunch with me?”

“Can't,” Berkeley said briskly, walking around Ryo and into his office. “I have a meeting.”

“Oh, okay,” Ryo said, disappointed that his plan didn't work. “What time will you be done work? Maybe we can go out for dinner?”

“I won't be home till late. I have a stakeout to supervise.” Berkeley said. Actually he had a date with Diana but he wasn't going to tell Ryo that.

“Oh. Well I guess I better go then, so you can get back to work. Aishiteru, koi.” Ryo went around the desk and kissed Berkeley, “Wake me up when you come home, okay? I want to know that you're okay.”

“Sure Ryo, love you too.” Berkeley started flipping through a file.

Ryo quietly left the room and exited the precinct. He started towards the subway, not really watching where he was going. All of a sudden, a man bumped into Ryo sending him flying to the pavement. Ryo threw out his arms to break his fall, only to whimper in pain when his injured shoulder was jolted. The assailant didn't even apologize, he continued walking and was swallowed up by the crowd. Ryo shook his head, the rudeness of some people amazed him. He slowly got up and brushed himself off, noticing a piece of paper folded on the ground.

“Is this mine?” Ryo asked himself quietly. He didn't think so but out of curiosity, he bent down and picked it up. He opened it and after reading it, started shaking in fright. The letter had said:

Ryo, I'm watching you. Soon I'll be coming for you. Takashi.

“So that was a bust.” Dee said, flopping down in a patio chair outside of Capers. JJ. and him had spent the entire morning interrogating so-called “eye-witnesses” to the previous hostage situation. Needless to say, no one saw anything.

“What else did you expect?” JJ. replied rationally, sitting down across from Dee. “It's not like we ever have good luck with witnesses.”

“True, true.” Dee sighed. “It's just…it felt like a waste of time even though I know it wasn't.”

The two sat in silence for a few minutes, reflecting on their not-so-successful morning when a familiar figure across the street caught Dee's eye.

“JJ., that Randy?” Dee asked.

JJ. glanced across the street. “I think so. But what is he doing around here? Shouldn't he be at home, resting?”

“I'll be right back.” Dee stood up and ran across the street. “Randy!?” he yelled at the man he thought to be his partner.

Ryo kept on walking, oblivious to Dee's calls until a hand on his shoulder made him jump out of his skin.

“Randy, I thought I'd never catch you. Are you alright?” Dee asked, noticing Ryo's jump of surprise.

“Yes, I'm fine. What are you doing here?” Ryo asked, trying to cover up his fear.

“Me and JJ. are having lunch,” Dee pointed over to Capers. “Want to join?”

“Oh, I don't want to interrupt your date…” Ryo said hesitantly while his mind was yelling “Yes! Yes!” He didn't want to be alone right now.

“The more the merrier. Come on,” Dee replied, not taking no for an answer. Wrapping his arm around Ryo, he directed him over to Capers.

Ryo pulled up a chair and sat down, nodding to JJ.'s hello. The men made small talk as they waited to make their orders. Both Dee and JJ. noticed that something was bothering Ryo. Not only was he not participating in the conversation, but he was constantly glancing around and looked ready to start crying any second.

Finally JJ. couldn't stand it any longer. “Randy, are you okay?”

“Huh?” Ryo replied, not really listening to JJ. He was too busy looking around for Takashi.

“Are you okay?” JJ. spoke slower, making sure he had Ryo's attention.

“Not really,” Ryo replied honestly, shaking his head no. He placed his head on his hands and closed his eyes.

“What is it Randy?” Dee asked comfortingly, sliding his chair closer to Ryo's and resting a hand on his shoulder.

“Look its nothing, forget I said anything.” Ryo stood up and tossed a $10 dollar bill on the table. “I'll see you guys at work tomorrow.” With that, Ryo left.

“Dammit,” Dee muttered. He thought that Ryo was actually going to open up.

“It's okay, Dee. He'll tell us when he's ready.” JJ. replied, giving Dee a light kiss.

“But what if it's too late?” Dee thought to himself. “What if he waits too long?”

Ryo sat lounging in Berkeley's favourite chair, looking out the window at the pouring rain, whishing that he had confided in Dee. He just wanted someone to understand his feelings and comfort him. Normally Berkeley would be the prime candidate but lately….Ryo sighed, lately there was just something off.

Speaking of Berkeley, Ryo glanced at the clock, he was late. Berkeley had called him around dinner time, saying he'd be home around eleven. It was 12:30, and he still hadn't shown up. Ryo was beginning to get worried. It didn't help Ryo's nerves that he still felt like he was being watched. He had checked the entire apartment, looking for anything out of the ordinary but the place was clear. Ryo had debated telling Berkeley about the note but he didn't want to seem pathetic or weak. After all, it was Takashi that…Ryo shook his head, he was not thinking about that.

Ryo looked at his watch again, only five minutes had passed. He reached for the phone, intent on call Berkeley's precinct to find out of they had heard anything but the phone rang first. Ryo hesitantly picked up the phone, wondering who would be calling at this time of night.

“Hello?” Ryo inquired. There was no answer on the other end, only the sound of breathing. “Hello? Is anyone there?” Ryo repeated, beginning to get creeped out.

“I'm coming,” the voice said and the phone was hung up.

Ryo stared at the phone in his hands, his entire body shaking uncontrollably. All of a sudden there was a knock on the door. Ryo jumped and turned towards the door. Berkeley has a key, he wouldn't be knocking. So who was on the other side of the door? Ryo asked himself. He stood up cautiously and grabbed his gun, turning off the safety. He walked to the door and said “Who is it?”

“Ryo, it's me, Berkeley.”

“Then why don't you unlock the door?” Ryo asked, his nerves at their peak.

“Because I don't have my key. Please Ryo, babe, let me in.”

Ryo reached towards the doorknob and slowly opened the door, keeping his gun ready.

“It's about time,” Berkeley said as he walking through the door.

Ryo could have fainted from relief. Setting his gun on the table, he wrapped his head on Berkeley's waist and placed his head on his chest. “I was worried that you weren't coming home.” He tightened his hold, not wanting to let go of his lover.

“I'm sorry babe, I didn't mean to worry you.” Berkeley replied, kissing Ryo on the head and rubbing his back. He could feel his groin begin to heat up.

Ryo grabbed Berkeley and pulled him down for a deeper kiss. He could feel Berkeley's arousal against his thigh and subconsciously rubbed his leg against the hard cock.

Berkeley's mouth opened, letting out a quiet moan. His hands slid down Ryo's back and cupped his ass, while grinding his hips against Ryo's in a demanding motion.

“Berkeley…” Ryo panted, “Can we finish this in the bedroom?” His hands had already begun to undo Berkeley's zipper and one slipped in to stroke the prize kept inside.

“Certainly Ryo.” Berkeley said, grinning. What a great night, getting laid twice, he thought to himself. He allowed himself to be led into the bedroom but then reversed the roles, pushing Ryo onto the bed and climbing on top. He quickly stripped the two of them, groaning when their cocks rubbed against each other. Berkeley started to kiss up and down Ryo's neck, grinning at Ryo's whimpers of pleasure. His hand slid down Ryo's chest and grasped his erection. He began to pump Ryo, his own cock pulsating with need.

Reaching over to the side table, Berkeley pulled open the drawer and grabbed a tube of lube. Unexpectedly, Ryo snatched the lube out of his lover's hands. “We won't be needing this tonight,” Ryo said mischievously.

Berkeley frowned, thinking that Ryo meant they weren't going to have sex. “But Ryo…” he started to say, but the words died in his mouth when Ryo took a hold of his hand and placed his index finger in his mouth. Ryo swirled his tongue around Berkeley's finger and sucked on it. He then brought Berkeley's hand down to his opening.

Getting the idea, Berkeley began to finger Ryo's entrance with his wet finger. He slowly inserted his finger into Ryo, trying to be gentle as possible; he did not want a repeat of the other day.

Ryo gasped at the slight pain but it quickly disappeared into a pleasurable sensation. He tugged at Berkeley's hand, wanting to be filled faster. He placed three of Berkeley's fingers in his mouth and sucked hard, coating them with salvia.

Berkeley began to scissor Ryo's passage, making sure his lover was fully stretched. Ryo motioned for Berkeley to come closer and licked the tip of his cock, causing Berkeley to moan loudly. Ryo teased Berkeley's cock for a couple of minutes before deep throating the entire organ.

“Oh shit Ryo! The feels fuckin' good.” Berkeley groaned between his panting. The warmth surrounding his cock was amazing and Ryo's tongue was nothing less than awesome.

Feeling Berkeley's cock starting to vibrate, Ryo released the organ from his mouth. He grabbed onto Berkeley's shoulder, lifting his hips and pushing himself onto Berkeley's cock. Berkeley quickly thrust all the way into Ryo and began to rock inside him.

Ryo let out a loud moan as Berkeley brushed the spot that sent waves of pleasure coursing through his body. Arching his back, Ryo wrapped his legs around Berkeley's waist, causing his lover to penetrate him deeper.

Pulling Berkeley's head down, Ryo kissed him desperately. “Harder, please koi, harder!” Ryo whispered in embarrassment. He hated having to beg for anything.

“No problem, babe.” Berkeley replied. He started to thrust in and out of Ryo at a faster pace, placing his hands on Ryo's hips. At this rate, he wasn't going to last much longer and from Ryo's dazed but passion-filled eyes, he doubted that Ryo would either.

Ryo groaned, he was so close to the point of orgasm that it was frustrating. He went to move his hand along his cock but was stopped by Berkeley swatting his hand away and grasping his organ in his own capable hands. Using fast, short strokes along with intense thrusts into the welcoming body below him, Berkeley quickly brought Ryo to completion. Ryo almost screamed with the strength of his orgasm and collapsed against the pillows. Berkeley came soon after, groaning Ryo's name as he filled his lover with his seed.

Pulling Berkeley down on the bed, Ryo whispered “Aishiteru koi,” before falling into sleep, his arms wrapped tightly around Berkeley. Berkeley relaxed in Ryo's grasp and went to sleep as well, dreams of Ryo and Diana filling his head.
