Fan Fiction ❯ Interitus ❯ Distrust and Unease ( Chapter 5 )
It was dark, and cold. Tarclonesse hated the cold. Sarronesse was tending to fire, grumbling and muttering. Himinarth was reclining on a log on the opposite side of the fire. Sarronesse stopped to look at him. He's been too calm thought Sarronesse, too calm and quiet. He's changed also, I wonder if he's lost his nerves, if he has, then he won't be much help in a fight.
Tarclonesse stared at Himinarth and shook his head. How could he have survived? Tarclonesse thought. Himinarth had reached their hideaway camp that morning, scaring Sarronesse out of her wits thinking that she was seeing a ghost. Tarclonesse frowned it didn't seem possible that Himinarth could have survived the wrath of the Shinma. Not with out some serious help. Tarclonesse glanced at Himinarth's sword. What powers did Himinarth now possess within that sword? Both paladins had seen Himinarth's sword glow, and that was what made them very uneasy
Tarclonesse fed more wood to the fire as he muttered to Sarronesse.
"Do you think that Shinma did something to him?"
Sarronesse didn't need to ask who Tarclonesse spoke of.
"He's too calm. Especially since his partner is dead. He hasn't even mourned for Crystaneth. What do you think?"
"I don't know Sarronesse."
"I think he's crazy."
Tarclonesse gave Sarronesse a sharp glance before speaking.
"I hope not because if he is, then we won't stand a chance if we were caught in a fight."
Sarronesse shook her head. "That's more the reason why we should just leave him here. If He comes with us, then he'll be more of a hindrance then help. Besides, Himinarth might draw the attention of evil spirits."
Tarclonesse snorted at that foolish remark and replied.
"Are you scared Sarronesse?" Sarronesse looked at Tarclonesse indignantly and said.
"No, I just don't want to ride with Himinarth Tar, what's the matter with that?"
Tarclonesse's face reddened at the mention of his nickname, which tended to get him rather annoyed and angry. After struggling with his temper for a few moments he managed to say.
"We can't leave him here. Don't you see Sarronesse, if we leave him, then only two Illuminati will remain! If something happens to us, then our race will be extinct! We have to stay together."
Sarronesse knew that Tarclonesse was right. Reluctantly she agreed to allow Himinarth travel with them in a few words.
"All right. I'm not going to like it, but all right."
Himinarth pretended not to notice the wary glances made by the two dark haired paladins. It was better that they thought more that he was crazy then that he was harboring another life form. Silently Himinarth mind called Crystaneth. At first, nothing happened, then a soft, gentle, warm presence filled Himinarth's mind.
You called? Himinarth smiled, he had finally gotten used to Crystaneth's voice echoing in his mind whenever he called for her. Himinarth answered.
Yes.
Is something wrong?
Something's not right.
What do you mean?
I think that Shinma purposefully attacked our race. We've dealt with them before, but this Shinma was different, it acted like as if it was carrying out orders.
Are you sure?
Not really, but we best be on our guard.
All right. Are you going to tell dyad Luna?
Himinarth smirked and answered back.
Let them figure it out for themselves.
You don't trust them.
Himinarth glared at Tarclonesse before answering back.
No, I don't. Sensing that Himinarth no longer needed her, Crystaneth retreated from his mind and settled within his sword. Himinarth kept a steady gaze on Tarclonesse and instinctively gripped the hilt of his sword.
