Chapter 3: "Queen of the court"
Summer was the first one to wake up the next morning; this was one of her habits that the rest of the girls hated the most. (Ynh) could easily hear her shuffling around in the kitchen, and if her senses weren't deceiving her, she definitely smelt something burning. "Oh great…" she mumbled to herself, as she tried to pull herself out of bed. Normally, a nuclear attack wouldn't have been able to get her out of bed, but this was different. This was Elijah. "Summer better not be burning down the kitchen, I haven't got enough frigin' money to buy these people a new condo!" (Ynh) said out loud as she pulled her fluffy blue blanket around her shoulders and headed towards the source of the smoke.
"Good morning sunshine!" Summer beamed at her as (ynh) plopped herself onto a chair and sat at the table.
"Why in God's name are you so perky?" (ynh) said, wiping the sleep from her eyes. "And what on earth are you trying to burn to a crisp?" Summer just smiled enthusiastically at her and handed her a cup of coffee. Then she took a seat across from (ynh) at the table. (Ynh) wasn't quite sure that she wanted to know anymore, the smirk on Summer's face was making her a little uneasy. It gave her the feeling that something odd was going on.
"It's tofu, I thought it was healthier than greasy eggs and bacon. And that's all that we have for now."
"Ok…great, but you still haven't answered my question?" (Ynh) said as she glanced over at the black goop that was supposed to be her breakfast. "You are way too happy, even for you. And I want to know why!?" She finished, and took another sip of coffee.
"I'm not overly happy…I'm just…just…HIGH ON LIFE!" Summer shouted, thinking that she had fooled (ynh). She wasn't, of course, (ynh)'s brightest friend, but she loved her despite her flaws.
"Right……Of course you're high on life?" (ynh) said sarcastically. "Why wouldn't you be? Well don't let me stop you!" She said mockingly. 'Who in the hell does she think I am? As if I can't see right through that?" (ynh) thought to herself.
"Don't worry, I won't." Summer replied, obviously trying to irritate her friend. "Well I think I am just going to go and grab a shower." She added as she stood up and walked her cup to the sink. (ynh) couldn't believe it. 'She really isn't going to tell me!' She mumbled as Summer passed her and disappeared around the corner.
(ynh) sat there for a second, then without another thought, she leaped from her chair and sped after Summer. She leapt and caught Summer, and tackled her onto the couch.
"You didn't think I would actually let you keep this from me, did you?!" (ynh) laughed as Summer tried to break free from her grasp. (ynh) was now sitting on her, nearly crushing her. She was gasping for breath.
"Ok…I give! I GIVE!" Summer yelled as (ynh) tightened her grip and forced the rest of her weight onto her. "Just PLEASE get off so I can breath!?" She panted.
"NOT until you tell me what's going on!" (ynh) Laughed at the look of defeat on Summer's face.
"I Will, but I can't talk if I can't breath stupid!" She was now desperately trying to break lose.
"Only if you promise to tell me?" (ynh) said, almost losing grip, but she regained her position. "Now say it!"
"Oh alright….I promise not to tell you!" Summer managed a laugh and a deep breath despite her crushed lungs.
"Don't you just think you're so cute!" (ynh) was getting tired of this game. She was about to let go, when Summer surrendered.
"Ok, I'll tell you…for real this time." She said seriously, the lack of oxygen was probably getting to her by now. (ynh) hesitated, but then slowly released her. Summer sat up and straightened herself out.
"Finally!" (Ynh) said straightening herself out as well and pulling her blanket over herself once more.
"I.." Summer started tying to keep in a laugh.
"Yes!?" (Ynh) said in an angered tone and griping her blue blanket to death. She loved her friend dearly but when people kept secrets from her she wouldn't be exactly too thrilled about it. She had to know!
"Can't tell you right now! Got to go! See ya!" Summer finished bolting off the couch and running into her room and locking it. (Ynh) ran after her and started to pound on the door.
"Summer!! Come out of there right now! You can't hide in there forever! I'll find out sooner or later!" With that, (Ynh) gave one last good pound on her door and heard her shut the door to her bathroom and turn the faucet water on. "Grrrr…I will so get her for this!" (Ynh) mumbled to herself and retreated to the other shower to help cool herself off.
"He was a boy, she was a girl, can I make it anymore obvious?!" (Ynh) sang along with Avril Lavigne's new song Sk8er boy playing on the shower radio . Grabbing the shampoo, she lathered her hair and just as she finished washing it out, the doorbell rang. "Ugh crap! Perfect timing. Will someone get that?! She yelled hoping someone would her call. Nothing. The doorbell buzzed throughout the house again and she decided it might be important. So, (ynh) mumbled curses under her breath and grabbed a towel wrapping it around herself. Carefully stepping out of the shower, so as not to slip, she walked to the door and opened it. Surprised at whom she was greeted with.
"Sure do dress for my coming over, don't cha?!" Elijah laughed pointing to her choice of dress.
(Ynh) looked over what she was wearing and blushed a deep crimson red. "Uh, sorry. I was in the shower. I had no idea you were even coming over!" (Ynh) said a little embarrassed and angry at the same time. Someone should have…wait…that must have been what Summer was keeping from her! Oh, she was going to pay now! She was probably hiding somewhere right at the very moment laughing at how stupid she must look in front of someone she liked! She would deal with her later. Now, she had other things to handle.
"So I take it Summer didn't tell you then? I called and told her to tell you." Elijah said stating his innocence. He didn't want to be blamed for interrupting her shower. He knew how girls could be when you did something unexpected.
"No. And for that she will pay dearly.." (Ynh) said cruelly with an evil smirk plastered on her face. "Well, you can come in for a little bit while I change into something more appropriate." (Ynh) said stepping aside and letting him in. "I'll be back in a little while. Just make yourself at home I guess." (Ynh) said retreating to her loft to get her clothes and then heading to the bathroom shutting the door. (Ynh) dropped the towel to the floor and put on her black string bikini. Following that was her Hawaiian Capri's and her white spaghetti strapped tank top. Brushing her brown hair vigorously, she applied a little bit of blue eye shadow and a thin layer of lip-gloss. Nothing too drastic or little she thought. Grabbing her sandals she went into the living room to find Elijah waiting patiently on the couch watching TV and by the looks of it he seemed to be watching the Faculty.
"Thinking a bit highly of ourselves aren't we?" She teased bending down to tighten the straps of her sandals.
"No!" He said changing the channel quickly which then landed on the family channel. Putting down the remote beside him and sticking out his tongue at her.
(Ynh) burst out laughing. And pointed at the TV. "What?!" Exclaimed Elijah. He turned his head back to the TV and blushed in embarrassment. Flipper was on. "What is this Elijah Wood day or something?!" He shouted and turned off the TV. Sighing he went over to (ynh) who was now on the floor from laughing too hard and gave her a small nudge in the side with his foot. "Okay, that's enough making fun of me for one day! Let's go and find the others. I hear we are going to have a volleyball tournament. Guys against girls! Then I can laugh at you when you lose!" He said smiling at her.
(Ynh) got up off the floor and glared at him. "We'll just see about that Mr. Wood. You may happen to be an excellent actor, but I happen to be an even better volleyball player! She said determined. Sure she hadn't played in two or three years, but hey, she was good then, so she should be good now too. Maybe just a bit rusty. 'Hopefully' She thought. And exited the condo with him behind.
"Hey Elf boy!" Elijah called to a guy with short brown curly hair.
"Ah, dirty little hobbit! So nice of you to join us finally!" He said back with playfulness in his voice.
"(Ynh) let me introduce you to my friends. I assume you probably know them. This is Orli, Billy, Sean, and Dom."
(Ynh) shook each one of their hands and said her hellos. Then turned to her friends who each had excited looks on their faces. Summer looked happier then her friends and her put together. She assumed she must have talked to Orli for a while. She smiled at her friends and ran over to them to talk.
After about 15 minutes of getting to know each other, the group of friends headed down to the beach with their beach towels in hand. (ynh) and the girls found a nice sunny spot with soft sand, and decided to lay their towels out here.
Just as (ynh) was about to lie down and get a nice tan, the guys came storming over.
"Oh come on! This isn't fun!" Orli yelled.
"Yeah, this is a typical chick activity. No danger or excitement involved at all!" Sean butted in.
"So this is all you ladies are going to do today?" Elijah said, giving them a doubtful look. "I mean…there's nothing wrong with a girl having a nice tan, if you know what I'm saying," he grinned at the guys, "but you're only here for a little while. You have to make the best of it. Besides, the guys are right, this is really boring." He added.
"Oh honestly you guys!" (ynh) replied. "It's not like we're leaving tomorrow, we'll be here for three weeks!"
"That's still not very long!" Dom yelled. He had been staring at Kelly since they had arrived. (ynh) nudged Kelly in the side lightly, so as not to draw attention. Then she leaned in and whispered in her ear. "I think someone has a crush! He's totally into you Kel!"
"You think so?" She whispered back.
"Definitely." (ynh) said. Then went back to her argument with the guys. "So what do you five geniuses propose we do then?" She asked.
"Come surfing with us, what else?" Billy grinned. He knew that none of the girls had ever been surfing before.
"Oh no! I am not going out there!" Krista exclaimed.
"Why not?" Summer asked.
"Hello?! You know I have a fear of oceans!" She screamed, as she shot a terrified look at the never-ending blue that was the sea.
"Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot." Summer felt a little guilty for not remembering.
"I'll go." (ynh) said, and by the startled look on their faces, no one expected her of all people to volunteer. She had never been much of a risk taker.
"You…you…will?" Elijah stuttered out. "Not that I don't want you to go or anything, it's just that…"
"That what? That a girl wouldn't be able to keep up with you?" (ynh) cut him off.
"No. You just don't…" Once again, he was interrupted.
"Because I can!" (ynh) yelled teasingly. "You're just afraid that I might be better than you, that's all!" She laughed as he blushed a light pink.
"Well then! Let's go, shall we?" He finally said.
"I'll only be a little while, k?" She told her friends. Then, held her nose up and walked past Elijah.
"Ok, you're going down woman!" He laughed as he ran up behind her and picked her up. She wasn't extremely tiny, but she was still rather small.
"Lijah, PUT ME DOWN!" (ynh) yelled as he put her over his shoulder, and started to run towards the water.
"Nope!" He chuckled.
"Do it Elijah! GO!" Sean, Billy, Orli, and Dom were cheering him on.
"NO! Not with my clothes on! PLEASE!" (ynh) pleaded, but it was no use. She could tell that he wasn't about to give in. So, she pulled her shirt off while she still had time. After all, she liked her cheap K-Mart shirt!
A few seconds later, they were both drenched. And now sitting in the shallows, trying to adjust to the cool but refreshing water.
"I'm gonna get you back for this one Lijah," She stated blankly.
"I can't wait!" he replied, still grinning at her. The guys were still cheering and whistling from shore.
"Ooh I oughta…." She glared at him playfully, and splashed him in the face with water.
"You oughta, what?!" He splashed her back.
"I should do…THIS!" With that, she jumped on his lap and dunked him. "HA! I win!" she ran to shore before he could repay the favor.
"Come back here and fight me like a man!" He yelled to her, as he also ran to shore.
"What's that supposed to mean?!" she giggled.
"Nothing. Why don't we start surfing so we can see who the real winner is?!" He took his wet clothes off, revealing his black swim-shorts. (ynh) couldn't help but stare. 'Who would of thought that a small guy like him would have a ripped body like that!?" she thought to herself, almost drooling.
"Alright, let's go! Are you four coming?" She asked.
"Yeah, we're coming." Sean answered.
"Last one there's a rotten egg!" Dom laughed as he ran by them. He was so childish.
"It's not gonna be me this time!" Orlando yelled, as he too ran by.
"Hey, wait for me!" Billy yelled as they all hurried out into the water.
Surfing was great, and (ynh) wasn't half-bad at it. In fact she was pretty damn good at it! They six of them returned to shore almost four hours later. They were all exhausted. They set their boards down, and sprawled out on the warm, soft sand. It was so comfortable, just lying there next to Elijah. (ynh) almost fell asleep.
"Hey?" (Ynh) heard Elijah say about 3 minutes later. (Ynh) opened her eyes and turned her head towards his voice, blocking the sun with one hand. "No sleeping!" He scolded her while giving her a nudge in the side. "We still gotta' play volleyball!" He whined while giving her that cute pout that made her melt a thousand times over.
"Fine, Fine." (Ynh) said while getting up off the cool sand. Stretching, she saw her friends staring impatiently at them waiting for them to come over and get the game started. (Ynh) went over to her "girls" group to see what the game plan was.
"I think someone has the hots for ya (Ynh)!" Krista said with a whisper of excitement.
"What are you talking about?" (Ynh) said while placing her hands on her hips and giving a 'hoochie-mama' look.
"She means that Elijah likes you, and I think you have fallen more over head and heels for him." Summer stated while looking from (ynh) over her shoulder to the guy group, who at the moment looked to be putting war paint on.
(Ynh) blushed a deep crimson and gave a mumble of "nuh-uh" and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Right…." They all stated at the same time and burst out laughing. "Let's discuss this later; right now, we have a couple of hot asses to beat!" Kelly said a bit louder than normal and quickly covered her mouth with her hand. (Ynh) was practically rolling on the ground when the guys looked over surprised and were looking at Kelly with a "damn right we are!" smile.
They got in their positions to play with (ynh) serving first. 'Okay, you can do this.' (ynh) thought to herself. She threw the ball up and hit it, luckily going over. Elijah returned it with a spike but luckily Summer saved it with a dive to the ground. The game went on like that for about 10 more minutes until the game was tied. 14-14. "This marks game point!" Sean screamed over to Summer who was serving. Summer was nervous. She hated serving and now all pressure was on her. "Come on Summer! You can do it!" Her teammates cheered her on. The guys were making funny faces and gestures to try and mess her up. Summer tossed the ball up, closed her eyes, and hit it as hard as she could. (Ynh) cheered loudly as the ball made it over. Billy bumped it back over and Krista set it up for a spike. (Ynh) ran up to spike it with Elijah right in front of her trying to block it. (Ynh) muttered a 'Your going down' to him and spiked the ball on the opposite side of the court. It hit the sand and the girls jumped up and down screaming "We win! Boo-ya!" The guys just sat there with a loss for words. They lost and they didn't know how. (Ynh) stopped her excitement to rub it in their faces but stopped when she noticed them quietly talking amongst themselves. "Oh No!" (Ynh) yelled looking at the girls. "Run!" And as soon as the guys heard this they came bolting after the girls and grabbing them around their waists. Picking them up, they carried them over to the water, and tossed them in. Spluttering water out of their mouths. The girls fought back and started an all out water war. One battle they did not win.

"You…you…will?" Elijah stuttered out. "Not that I don't want you to go or anything, it's just that…"
"That what? That a girl wouldn't be able to keep up with you?" (ynh) cut him off.
"No. You just don't…" Once again, he was interrupted.
"Because I can!" (ynh) yelled teasingly. "You're just afraid that I might be better than you, that's all!" She laughed as he blushed a light pink.
"Well then! Let's go, shall we?" He finally said.
"I'll only be a little while, k?" She told her friends. Then, held her nose up and walked past Elijah.
"Ok, you're going down woman!" He laughed as he ran up behind her and picked her up. She wasn't extremely tiny, but she was still rather small.
"Lijah, PUT ME DOWN!" (ynh) yelled as he put her over his shoulder, and started to run towards the water.
"Nope!" He chuckled.
"Do it Elijah! GO!" Sean, Billy, Orli, and Dom were cheering him on.
"NO! Not with my clothes on! PLEASE!" (ynh) pleaded, but it was no use. She could tell that he wasn't about to give in. So, she pulled her shirt off while she still had time. After all, she liked her cheap K-Mart shirt!
A few seconds later, they were both drenched. And now sitting in the shallows, trying to adjust to the cool but refreshing water.
"I'm gonna get you back for this one Lijah," She stated blankly.
"I can't wait!" he replied, still grinning at her. The guys were still cheering and whistling from shore.
"Ooh I oughta…." She glared at him playfully, and splashed him in the face with water.
"You oughta, what?!" He splashed her back.
"I should do…THIS!" With that, she jumped on his lap and dunked him. "HA! I win!" she ran to shore before he could repay the favor.
"Come back here and fight me like a man!" He yelled to her, as he also ran to shore.
"What's that supposed to mean?!" she giggled.
"Nothing. Why don't we start surfing so we can see who the real winner is?!" He took his wet clothes off, revealing his black swim-shorts. (ynh) couldn't help but stare. 'Who would of thought that a small guy like him would have a ripped body like that!?" she thought to herself, almost drooling.
"Alright, let's go! Are you four coming?" She asked.
"Yeah, we're coming." Sean answered.
"Last one there's a rotten egg!" Dom laughed as he ran by them. He was so childish.
"It's not gonna be me this time!" Orlando yelled, as he too ran by.
"Hey, wait for me!" Billy yelled as they all hurried out into the water.
Surfing was great, and (ynh) wasn't half-bad at it. In fact she was pretty damn good at it! They six of them returned to shore almost four hours later. They were all exhausted. They set their boards down, and sprawled out on the warm, soft sand. It was so comfortable, just lying there next to Elijah. (ynh) almost fell asleep.
"Hey?" (Ynh) heard Elijah say about 3 minutes later. (Ynh) opened her eyes and turned her head towards his voice, blocking the sun with one hand. "No sleeping!" He scolded her while giving her a nudge in the side. "We still gotta' play volleyball!" He whined while giving her that cute pout that made her melt a thousand times over.
"Fine, Fine." (Ynh) said while getting up off the cool sand. Stretching, she saw her friends staring impatiently at them waiting for them to come over and get the game started. (Ynh) went over to her "girls" group to see what the game plan was.
"I think someone has the hots for ya (Ynh)!" Krista said with a whisper of excitement.
"What are you talking about?" (Ynh) said while placing her hands on her hips and giving a 'hoochie-mama' look.
"She means that Elijah likes you, and I think you have fallen more over head and heels for him." Summer stated while looking from (ynh) over her shoulder to the guy group, who at the moment looked to be putting war paint on.
(Ynh) blushed a deep crimson and gave a mumble of "nuh-uh" and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Right…." They all stated at the same time and burst out laughing. "Let's discuss this later; right now, we have a couple of hot asses to beat!" Kelly said a bit louder than normal and quickly covered her mouth with her hand. (Ynh) was practically rolling on the ground when the guys looked over surprised and were looking at Kelly with a "damn right we are!" smile.
They got in their positions to play with (ynh) serving first. 'Okay, you can do this.' (ynh) thought to herself. She threw the ball up and hit it, luckily going over. Elijah returned it with a spike but luckily Summer saved it with a dive to the ground. The game went on like that for about 10 more minutes until the game was tied. 14-14. "This marks game point!" Sean screamed over to Summer who was serving. Summer was nervous. She hated serving and now all pressure was on her. "Come on Summer! You can do it!" Her teammates cheered her on. The guys were making funny faces and gestures to try and mess her up. Summer tossed the ball up, closed her eyes, and hit it as hard as she could. (Ynh) cheered loudly as the ball made it over. Billy bumped it back over and Krista set it up for a spike. (Ynh) ran up to spike it with Elijah right in front of her trying to block it. (Ynh) muttered a 'Your going down' to him and spiked the ball on the opposite side of the court. It hit the sand and the girls jumped up and down screaming "We win! Boo-ya!" The guys just sat there with a loss for words. They lost and they didn't know how. (Ynh) stopped her excitement to rub it in their faces but stopped when she noticed them quietly talking amongst themselves. "Oh No!" (Ynh) yelled looking at the girls. "Run!" And as soon as the guys heard this they came bolting after the girls and grabbing them around their waists. Picking them up, they carried them over to the water, and tossed them in. Spluttering water out of their mouths. The girls fought back and started an all out water war. One battle they did not win.
