Fan Fiction ❯ Shadow's of the Night ❯ Chapter Five ( Chapter 5 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Author Note: sorry if Havok is out of character, the only things i know about him are that he's Cyke's little brother and what his powers are.

Disclaimer: the only thing about this fic that i own is the character of Aiyen le Beau and the plot. Marvel comics owns the X-Men and the great Adult Humor God owns the show TV Funhouse, Cartoon Network owns the Smurfs... and their goofy christmas special.

"Aiyen, is there something bothering you?" I ignored Jean's question, earning a glare from Cyclops. I crossed my arms and closed my eyes, trying to just block it all out. Bringing up more memories of my Brotherhood days, I reluctantly accepted them over the X-Men's sympathetic stares.

FLASHBACK; 4 YEARS PREVIOUS...

"Whaddya want, Havok?" I asked quietly, flipping through the channels on TV in an attempt to find something on television that was pornographic or extremely sick humored. Finally giving up after an hour, I settled on TV Funhouse before realizing Havok was still in the room. "I said whaddya want, Havok? If you ain't gonna answer me, den please leave."

"It's either you or Magneto, and you seemed like the lesser danger to my health. Magneto's been an ass since Rogue left, and he's been taking it out on us. Haven't you noticed that?" "Listen Alex, I done more den notice it bud. I been introduced to his pissed off attitude firs' hand, or did Magneto feed t'Brotherhood some bullshit story about how I wound up in a coma?" "He told us you were being unruly, and that he had every right to attack you." "Da's a load o' bull, I was never disloyal t'Brotherhood. He labeled me and Niala as traitors when Rogue left, jus' because we knew someding we wasn't s'possed to and told Rogue. We hoped she'd talk some sense into him, but instead she jus' up and left t'Brotherhood." "So... what did you and Myst discover?" "Can you keep quiet 'bout it, Havok?" He nodded, the look on his face convincing me that he was telling the truth. So I started telling him about the file I'd found in the Brotherhood computers... about Magneto's big plan to rule the world by sacrificing all of us to exterminate the human population. By the time I was done, two or three hours later, Havok was gawking at me in shock. I put my hand under his chin and closed his mouth for him, not liking being all-out gawked at. "He thinks we're expendable, but that means..." "It means dat he don' care what happens to t'Brotherhood, jus' so long as he comes out on top. If dere's two dings in dis world I don' like i's leerin' men and ametuer dieves who dink dey can take o'er t'world, and Magneto may as well be both." "Damn, we're all gonna die..." "Havok, you gotta be t'biggest idiot I ever met. Now d'you mind leavin' before some one see's you and ge's t'wrong idea?" "There are times I'd agree with you on the idiot thing, kiddo. Before I leave though, here's something for them to get the wrong idea about."

Before Havok got up to leave he brushed his lips lightly over mine, then left the room like it was an everyday occurance. I blinked and looked back at the TV, changing the channel and settling on the Smurfs Christmas Special. Niala came in and pointed out that I was blushing, making me blush darker when she asked me who the guy was. I smirked and kept watching TV, deciding that I finally had a secret since there wasn't a telepath around here strong enough to get past my mental blocks. So long as Havok kept his mouth shut, that kiss would be our little secret.

END FLASHBACK

"Hey kiddo, we're talking to you over here!" I looked over at Alison, glaring at being called 'kiddo'. Apparently my glare said 'repeat the question', because that's what Alison did. "I asked how you got stuck with the Brotherhood in the first place, or was it your choice?"

"T'Brotherhood kidnapped me from school one day, I wasn't much older den 5 when it happened. Remy should remember t'incident, unless he's really dat dumb." I smiled at Remy, earning a shrug as he continued staring at Rogue. "Oh yeah, I forgot dat you ain't big on talking 'bout t'Brotherhood since Mystique shot you dat day." I thought for a second, realizing I'd forgot to tell the X-Men about the exterior security systems of the Brotherhood's Earth Base. "Uh... I probly aughta mention t' -" The X-Jet was suddenly struck by a round of gunfire, making my announcement a little too much of a duh. "Nevermind."

"Hold on tight, this might get bumpy." I followed orders for once and held on, surprised that I didn't throw up with all the swerving they were doing. "These things used to be relatively easy to fool, it's a possibility they might still be." "How easy and how many lives do we have to risk to fool them, Aiyen?" "Only a moderate difficulty, and hopefully only mine. These guns seek electrical waves like the ones the X-Jet emmits, and idiots like me emmit similar electric pulses when we lose control. If I could get to the ground, I can draw out my... Well, nevermind what I can draw out. I just need to get to the ground, release a lot of energy really fast, then run as fast as I can away from that energy." "Good idea in theory, but can you run fast enough to avoid the gunfire?" "I dunno, guess it depends if I was really the only Brotherhood fool able to upgrade these things." It looked like everyone was considering it, so I started to think about how I was going to do this.

"It's too risky, and it's just the oportunity the Brotherhood would take to capture you." Cyclops said, making me wonder if he was the one who'd been kidnapped. I looked over at him with a serious look, hoping somebody saw the point to my risk. "Listen Cyclops, if somebody doesn't do something to draw t'gunfire we'll never get close enough to dat building to even dink about saving Niala. Since t'only other option is a thunderstorm, which still puts everybody in danger 'cause o' t'powerful electrical currents, we's kinda out o' options unless you got a better one." He was silent, everyone but Remy was.

"Aiyen knows what she's sayin' Cyke, she worked for dese fools at one point." "So did Rogue, but I don't hear her agreeing with Aiyen." "Why Cyke, I din't know you cared mon ami." I shrugged out of my jacket and dropped my bo staff, rolling my eyes at Remy and Cyclops before turning to Nightcrawler.

"Hey Nightcrawler, can you get me to the ground in one piece?" "It is not a smart idea, but I can try." "Jus' git me widin a ten foot drop o' t'ground, I can land on my feet from dere." "I can do zat... I hope." Nightcrawler wrapped his arms around me and teleported out of the X-Jet, letting go of me ten feet above the ground and teleporting back up. 'Aiyen, I hope you know what you're doing.' I smiled briefly at Jean's telepathic intrusion into my concentration, my worry of how to tell them what would happen vanishing just as briefly. 'After I let my energy out, the Aiyen you know from the past month will vanish. My mentality will be replaced with that of an evil spirit, and I may not be able to pull it back into my mind after this is over. If that happens... can you promise me something?' 'Depends on what it is, Shadow.' 'Promise that you'll kill me if I can't regain control, Jean.' 'I can't do that, it's against the X-Men's Code of Ethics.' 'Then I guess I'll be the one doing the killing, I doubt even The Phoenix can stop Phantom after I willingly turn it loose and it stays out.'

I closed my mind and began to concentrate again, using my own energy to draw Phantom out of hiding. The familiar pain of my control slipping shot through my body, then I was shoved into the back of my own mind by the much stronger spirit. Unable to remain conscious, I blacked out in hopes that Phantom knew the danger I put the two of us in by letting my body be a target. One thing I hadn't told the X-Men... I wouldn't be able to outrun the guns, I would get shot and more than likely killed.

NARRATIVE P.O.V.

The silver-eyed version of Aiyen blinked at the sudden freedom of it's Cajun counterparts mental blocks, smirking before deciding Aiyen's plan sounded fun. Calling up less than 1/ 10 of it's energy and turning to the guns, Phantom released the energy in a wave that even shook the X-Jet and the air around it.

"What the hell is she doing down there, she's going to kill us all if that energy gets any closer to us." Cyclops cast a look over at Jean, noticing the determined look on her face. "Something wrong Jean, you look a little uptight." "I'm not uptight, I'm just thinking about what Aiyen said before turning her energy loose." "What'd she say?" "She told me to kill her if she can't get her energy back under control, and after she did that much damage with only a fraction on her power I'm starting to consider it." "A fraction? Jean, what kind of fraction?" "I'd say only a tenth, most likely less with the energy readings I'm still getting from that kid." "I told her this was too dangerous, she's going to get herself killed. Aiyen has them distracted, land this thing so we can help." Cyclops threw a glare at Gambit when he failed at hiding a laugh, making the Cajun withdraw into a corner and laugh some more. "What d'you think you're laughing at?"

"He's laughin' 'cause your worried, Cyke. That smarmy Cajun brat can handle herself well enough, we'll only be in the way if we go down there ta help her. Besides, the last thing ya wanna do is go down there and end up facin' Phantom, sugah." "Who in the HELL is Phantom, Rogue?" Rogue glared and smacked Remy, getting him to stop laughing long enough to begin her explaination. "Phantom is Aiyen's other half, a French version of Phoenix if memory serves meh correctly. Ah don't think there's any difference in the two of 'em, except that Phantom is really a seperate spirit. Gad damn it Remy, shut up!" Rogue pulled one of her gloves off and punched Gambit hard enough to disorient him, the skin contact making him even dizzier. The good thing was he stopped laughing, so Rogue could keep talking if need be. Two more waves energy rocked the jet one after the other, knocking everybody off their feet. "Alright, you two can land this thing anytime now." "Ah agree, Phantom won't hesitate to knock us outta the air ya know."

Jean and Storm landed the jet and everyone cast a warry glance in the direction of the explosions, dodging a flying body. The guard that came flying at them looked worse than the Danger Room after Wolverine had to blow off some steam, and what made it worse for the X-Men to watch was that he was still alive. Rogue pulled her glove back off and found a bit of bare skin, putting the guard out of his misery and looking back at the carnage Phantom was causing. Jean cast a glance at Scott before flying in the spirit's direction, hoping she didn't have to kill Aiyen's physical body. She knew that if Aiyen's body died, both her and the spirit would be lost forever.

"Calm down, there's nothing left for you to do except let Aiyen have her body back." Phantom looked over and smirked, intensifying the strength of her Stardust attacks. (A/N: a sugar-coated name for a gruesome ability, i assure you. Stardust penetrates the human, or mutant, psyche and blocks out the victims vision. it then proceeds to hunt for their worst phobia, then forces the image of whatever they fear most into their vision. forcing that image in front of their eyes until the psychic wave is broken or the victim overcomes the attackers mental strength, prolonged exposure drives the victim to a very violent suicide. that means they litterally beat themselves to death, usually with their bare hands.) Jean closed her eyes and focused on bringing out all of her energy, hoping she didn't have to follow through with what Aiyen asked her to do. "Aiyen, don't make me do this." "Aiyen isn't here mortal, just me and you." "Then you leave me no choice Phantom... " Jean blinked and allowed her own form of lacking control take over, releasing her energy in one attack. "PHOENIX FORCE !!!"

Both of them collapsed, Jean from over-exertion and Phantom from the attacks intensity. The guard Phantom had been tourturing let out a final scream, beating his vital organs out of his body with a large, but dull, rock.

well, how does Aiyen survive this one? i hope you aren't squeemish after reading that, and there will be a bit more on Phantom in later chapters and/ or another story. i haven't decided yet, and sorry if I fucked up Rogue's accent. BTW, i know the Brotherhood doesn't have a base on Earth. Their base is Asteroid M, i just invented the Earth base so Phantom could be introduced to the story in a fight scene instead of a Danger Room session.
