Brittany ran from the room tears streaming down her face. Rylus tried to catch up to her to stop her but she pushed him aside. "I don't care! All I want to do is go home!" Brittany yelled as she ran. She collapsed outside in sobs. Alex, how could you? Why did I trust you? I loved you, and you lied to me. You used me, you spoke of trust yet all you did was lie! All I was to you was something for your amusement. I want to go home, I need to get away from here, away from him. "And I can't even do that until the year is up. How could I have been so foolish?"
"I can help you if you want to go home." a voice called to her. Brittany looked up to see a young mage, not much older than herself standing before her. He held out his hand to help her up.
"What do you mean? I'm not from here. I'm from the human realm. I can't return there until the year has passed." Brittany lamented as more tears came from her eyes.
"Shh, I hate it when a woman cries. Especially a woman as beautiful as you are. I'm taking it that your Lord told you that you couldn't return did he?" the mage asked in a kind, soft voice.
"Yes." Brittany admitted as she looked up at him.
"Well, that's another lie he has told you. I can send you home right now if you wish." the mage offered once again. "All it would take would be a simple spell. Nothing complicated for a mage."
"Really? Yes, please send me back." Brittany almost begged him. The mage nodded slowly as he stepped away from Brittany and raised his staff into the air. He began chanting some words as Rylus, Kiba, Holly, and Shadow ran out of the castle towards them. Before the others could reach Brittany however Alex was upon both of them.
"Shut the hell up!" Alex roared as he grabbed hold of the mage's throat. In a swift motion he squeezed the man's jugular and with a powerful motion ripped the man's head off. The head flew threw the air, spraying blood everywhere. Alex didn't care, with a surge of demonic energy he waved his left hand sending the mage's body flying away from him. He turned to Brittany who was glowing brightly. "Brittany, NO!"
Brittany didn't even look at him as she disappeared into the shining light. Alex looked in shock at where she last was until finally grief over took him. Alex let out an inhuman growl that echoed throughout the entire kingdom. His demonic energy pulsed violently as the waves of his demonic energy shoved the others back, keeping them from getting to him. Winds encircled him as he turned around to face. He looked up at Rylus, anger, hurt, and loss masked his face as he walked towards him.
"You! Why the hell did you get her! Why the hell did you bring her to the meeting!" Alex roared. He could smell Brittany's scent on him, and knew it was him that had got her.
Rylus stammered as he slowly backed away from Alex. "M-my Lord. T-the mages, one of them said you wanted her there. I'm sorry, if I had known." Before Rylus could continue Alex back handed him with his right arm. The force of his punch sent Rylus flying from the field into the castle wall, cracking the stones where he connected. The force of the impact made a sickening thud as Rylus collapsed to the ground unconscious.
"My Lord, what on earth is going on? What the hell did you do?" Holly asked, her eyes glaring at Alex. Kiba placed his arm on her to hold her back, and to put himself between her and Alex.
"He did exactly what he intended to do." Kiba said softly. "Use her, and make her think he loved her. Now, he has finally lost her." Even Shadow and Holly looked shocked at what Kiba had said. Never before had he spoken like that about Alex, even his eyes held contempt for his Lord. Alex didn't even react to Kiba's words, he simply turned around and walked back towards the castle. "He even fooled us. Even though we knew better, we knew better than to believe he would allow himself to fall in love. We were just like her, hoping that he could change, but now it seems as if maybe the Lord of the north was right."
"Kiba, don't...he doesn't deserve that." Shadow said hesitantly. He was just as angry as Kiba and Holly, but he knew something that they did not.
"I doubt that he even cares what I say." Kiba replied in a cold voice. It wasn't until they saw the blood dripping off of Alex's hands from were he had clenched his fist too tight that his claws dug into his flesh, that they realized how hard Kiba's words had actually hit. Alex slammed open the castle doors, leaving a smear of blood on the doors from his hands, never once looking back. "Come on, lets go inside and see how this plays out."
Alex stormed back into the hall where he ran into Magnus, and the remaining mages that gathered around him. "Where the hell did he send her?" Alex growled, not even bothering to hide his anger as grabbed Magnus by the throat and lifted him in the air. Never once did Magnus's smug expression leave his face as he looked down at Alex.
"Well, judging by the spell he used, he was going to send her back to the human realm. Seeing however, that you...stopped him...before he could finish the spell, there's no telling where she might be." Magnus replied as if he was talking to a small child. "She might be in limbo, she might have been transported to somewhere within this realm, or you might have just sent her to the nether realm for all I know."
Alex's grip on Magnus faltered as his words sunk in. I can't put much faith in his words, this bastard is too close to Zanatos so there's no telling wether or not what he says is the truth. He might know exactly what happened to her, but still the fact remains...I don't know where she is.
"Now, if you'll kindly let me go." Magnus said in a gloating voice as he easily freed himself of Alex's weakened grip. He knew he had won, and that he had accomplished what he had set out to do. Break Alex's will, and get rid of the girl. Now Zanatos will be able to do what he wants, without fear of this lowlife. Even you have to agree that things worked out for the better. Magnus thought as he looked at Alex's broken expression.
If this is what victory looks like, than I would rather have defeat. You manipulated this man, you used him, used his weakness and preyed on his emotions. You truly have become like Zanatos, a fact that I am beginning to dread. Alcadan replied calmly, but with a hint of sadness in his voice.
But I was only trying to help. With him out of the way things will be so much easier, easier for all of us. Please do not think ill of me for what I have done, but I need to make my own decisions. If I am to be the archmage, I will one day lead the mages, and then I will have to make decisions for myself. I am glad that I have your guidance now, but I need to make my own path so that when I lead the mages it will be to the best of my ability.
I suppose you are right. If this is the path you have chosen for yourself, I will not stop you. Still, if you achieve something only by deceiving others and causing pain to them, then you really haven't won.
Alex was so wrapped up in his own perilous thoughts that he didn't even notice Magnus's change of emotion as he looked back at Alex. "More than likely that girl is somewhere within the demon realm. I'm not sure exactly, but still there's a chance you might find her." Before Alex could even reply Magnus cast a spell which teleported him and remaining mages out of the castle, leaving Alex standing alone. I can find her, I've got to find her. She's got to still be here, I don't care where she is I will find her.
Alex hurried past Kiba, Holly, and Shadow who were helping the wounded Rylus up to his room. He didn't care that they looked at him scornful eyes, he didn't care that he might have revealed too much to Magnus, he didn't even care that with Brittany gone all his plans all he worked so hard to achieve let with her. The only thing he cared about, was getting her back.

Brittany opened her eyes to see herself sitting in a dark woods. At first she didn't know what had happened when suddenly everything came rushing back to her. Alex...damn him! I trusted him and after everything we did. Brittany was snapped out of her thoughts when a new sound hit her ears, it was the sound of the ocean. Brittany weakly got up to look around, just as she had feared she wasn't home. She was standing at the edge of the forest, beneath her was a rocky cliff that led to the ocean. I guess it was too good to be true. I'm still here, still within his clutches.
Even as Brittany thought this something new occurred to her. Alex never said anything about the ocean, so that means I can't be in his realm. Oh no! If I'm in Zanatos's realm there's no telling what he would do. Shit, I've got to get out of here. Brittany hurriedly surveyed her surroundings. There was nothing but caves along the cliff and a dark forest. Both were menacing, and both she could feel would hold her doom if she entered. Calm down, there's no need to be afraid. I can still cast magic. If I can hold my own against Alex, surely I can hold my own against anything else. Still, I might as well get some light to see.
"Lumious." Brittany said holding out her right hand in front of her, however, nothing happened. "That can't be good." Brittany tried several more times of casting the spell before finally she gave up. Why the hell won't it work! That's one of the easiest spells to use. Shit, what was it that Alex said before this whole fiasco began? Dammit, he must've been right. That spell, and then healing his arm wasted my energy. I can't even cast a simple illuminating spell.
Brittany stopped in mid thought as she looked into the forest in front of her. Red glowing eyes met her's as several demons began to step out of the woods. Even though Brittany tried to calm herself, she knew that her knee's were shaking as she slowly backed away.
"Hello, what do we have here?" a demon asked as it slowly licked its lips. The demon was about six feet tall, with dark blue skin. It had large pointed ears, talons, and wings protruding from beneath his arms. His fangs glistened in the darkness as he stepped towards her. "Her blood smells good, doesn't it boys?"
"Oh yes indeed. She shall make a very a nice feast." another demon responded. Soon three more demons exited the woods, all of which resembled the first one.
Bat demons, vampires...no no no no no! Why did it have to be them? Brittany thought. And even though she mentally kicked herself for thinking it, she couldn't help her next thought. Alex, please help me!

Alex hurried into his study as he pulled open one of the drawers in his desk. He pulled out a large rolled up map and spread it across his desk. It was then that he realized the archmage's book was on his desk. She forgot to put it away...well that matters little now. Alex opened up the book to the page he was looking for. Before I forget, if she really is in the demon realm I won't be able to protect her if anyone attacks, but I can help.
"My Lord, about earlier." Kiba said as he came in. He noticed how intently Alex looked at the book before looking up at him.
"I don't care. I have more important things to deal with now." Alex said as he traced his finger along a page to confirm something.
"My Lord, if your going to try and bring her back don't. There's no point if your just going to hurt her again!" Kiba yelled. "I might have gone too far before, but one thing I do standby is the fact that you just broke that girls heart. Seeing you again isn't going to help it any."
"Kiba, shut the hell up." Alex said coldly as he glared at him. Finally he sighed as he looked back down. "Don't you think I know that. I knew, even though I didn't want to admit it, I knew this would happen. Now, I'll be damned if anyone is going to lay a hand on her. If she made it back to the human realm, I won't interfere. But if she's here in the demon realm, I will find her."
Something in the way Alex spoke halted Kiba's anger. When first he entered he could've ripped Alex's throat out, just out of sheer anger. But after seeing how broken Alex really was, he couldn't help but inwardly feel a little sorry for him, but only a little. "You made this path for yourself. Now you will have to live with your decision. Still, if you need my help, I will be here."
"I know. That's why I count on you so much. But before I can even begin to locate her, I need to give her some protection." Alex said as he closed his eyes.
"What do you mean?" Kiba asked, intrigued by the way Alex was acting. "That lass is a strong one. She won't be taken down that easily. She just about took you down with her magic."
"That's just it. I didn't want to hurt her, they will. That alone makes a huge difference. The other reason, is because today she spent most of her energy sparring. She used a powerful spell, one far above her own capability and that drained a lot out of her. Not to mention healing my arm, and all the other spells she used. I'm sure she's just about reached her limits." Alex replied not looking up.
"So, she really is defenseless then?" Kiba asked, worry resonating in his voice.
"Technically, yes, but I've got one trick left up my sleeve." Alex announced. "You forget, even after all that's happened, she still is my mate."
"So you can still activate her mark." Kiba finished his eyes lighting up with realization. "Of course, which means that only demons stronger than you could enter the barrier and get to her."
"Correct, well partially. That is the reason this will only give her a little edge. Remember, the barrier of a mate only protects their mate from the opposite sex. A female could enter Brittany's barrier for the simple fact that she would pose no sexual threat to her." Alex said softly. "Still, at least the barrier will give her a little protection." With that Alex closed his eyes once again. He clasped his hands together, extending his pointer and middle fingers upward as he focused his energy towards activating his mark. Since I didn't activate when I first marked her it will be harder to awaken it from its dormant state. Finally, after several antagonizing seconds Alex dropped his hands an relaxed his posture. "The mark's been activated. The rest is up to her."
"I can help you if you want to go home." a voice called to her. Brittany looked up to see a young mage, not much older than herself standing before her. He held out his hand to help her up.
