The Name

Her blue eyes grazed to the children playing in the field of flowers. “Child. We should be going now. Milord hated waiting… And I do not want his punishment. I'm sure you don't want the punishment either…” The green yokai said softly to her, standing next to her with the two-headed staff in his claws. A decade of years had passed them by and the child still grown not an inch.

He felt only the sympathy for the child without a name so he tried to be the parental role for her, having grown wiser during the years he had spent with her. “Okay, Jaken-sama…” She quietly said to him, wandering to the two-headed dragon, readying it to be ridden.

He was left silent. She was still felt afraid of the demon king of the west; even though they both knew that he meant no harm to the child.

The kappa yokai sighed and was about to walked after her before his pointed ears picked up the children's singing out the cursed song he knew it was,

Kagome Kagome Kago no naka no Tori wa
Itsu Itsu deyaru? Yoake no ban ni
Tsuru to kame ga subetta.
Ushiro no shoumen daare ?

Kagome… Somehow, that word seemed to fit the child. He would have to ask his lord about naming the child, since both the yokai and the child grew tired of hearing him calling her a child instead of a name she needed for so long. No doubting that the king also grew tired of it as well.

The said demon king appeared, looking bloodied, silently telling them that he had won a battle. They waited until the child went into her shadow realm to slumber for her needed dead of a sleep. She had learned it when the demon king got fed up with her repeated waking nightmares so he decided it was better to teach her the age old technique that helped the dead to sleep. It helped her to avoid interrupting them and get her out of the way if the battle should start.

“Milord… Have you thought up of a name for her?” The yokai servant quietly asks to his lord and his master. He glared at him, giving him an answer of a `no'. “Well… I heard something and I thought it might fit her…” His lord's face remains blank. “Kagome…” The green yokai said nervously, afraid that he would be punished.

“…Kagome? The name of the accursed oni… The game of the children?” He looked at his green, short servant and saw him nodded. “Very well then. Her name shall be Kagome from now on.”

The sun had returned and the moon had gone to slumber as the child awoke from her dead sleep and returned to the earth with her yokai king of the west. “Jaken and Kagome, we'll be off now.” The demon king told his servants as he began to walk forward.

“Kagome…?” The confused child murmured out.

“That's your name now, child.” The green servant said to her as he ran after his master and the lord. “Hurry up!” The green yokai squawked out to her.

“…Okay, Jaken. I'm coming… So I finally have a name, do I?” She said with a smile before breaking out into a run after the servant and the demon king of the west.

I finally have a name…

Author's Note: Sorry about the long absences. Beautiful Phantom has been kicking my ass to update this drabble series. Lol. Sorry about that, Beau. I made this extra long, though I was pretty sure that in the rule about the drabble being less than 500 words… Please don't report me or anything! Anyway, here is the translation for the children's song that was mentioned earlier… Also, I don't really like this chapter but whatever.

Kagome, Kagome, the bird in the cage,
when will you come out?
In the evening of the dawn,
the crane and turtle slipped.
Who stands right behind you now?
