A Lover's Pain

Chapter Four

Lights flashed, white blinding light.

She was moving fast and yet she felt still.

Frozen.

Voices echoed around her.

"She's going into shock!"

"She's losing too much blood!"

Faster and faster she moved. The light she thought was so bright.

"Get the blood transfer!"

Endless white light.

"She's going into a seizure!"

"Hold her!"

The light began to dim, darkness edging at her vision.

"We're losing her!"

She felt herself drifting, drifting towards the darkness.

"No, You can't die! Don't die on me now!"

A shock wave went through her body, once, twice, three times, each time more intense then the other.

A sound filled her hearing, echoing in her mind. "Beeeee . . ." of a heart monitor that won't beep anymore.

"She's gone."

And blackness consumed her.

Noin jerked awake and groaned. What a weird dream she thought before closing her eyes and snuggling down to sleep. A binding clenched around her chest refusing to let her move. What in the world? She thought opening her eyes in confusion and looking around.

She sucked in her breath slowly when she realized that she was not lying down but was sitting in an upright position. Where was she?

A groaning of metal bending echoed towards her.

A panicky sensation slowly consumed her. Where was she? What was she doing here?

Noin forced herself to breath evenly, to remember what had happened.

It came in scattered bits and pieces.

A puzzle of sounds, images and emotions.

Slowly they began to trickle into her mind. In ordered sequences until she could stand it no more.

How was it possible that she was still alive?

The car shifted alarmingly groaning as it did so.

Breath she chanted to herself as she struggled to understand the situation she was in.

She couldn't see anything. Darkness filled her surrounding. Shadows lurked around the car telling her nothing of what was happening around her.

Noin shifted and gasped in disbelief as a blinding pain consumed her. She tensed as the pain rode through her body. Oh, god! What was wrong with her?

She ran her hands slowly down her body searching for broken bones and realized she couldn't reach her legs. She fumbled for her seatbelt and managed to release it. She moved her legs slowly waiting for any unexpected pain but there was none. Her legs were perfectly fine.

Noin frowned in confusion, where was the pain coming from?

The car screeched as metal crunched and slid sideways.

Noin's eyes widened, alarmed as what was happening was finally hitting her. She moved slowly hoping as not to disturb the balance of the car and reached for her toolbox behind her seat. Pain exploded in her chest and she realized she must have strained her ribs from the seat - belt. Noin swore but continued her actions.

The toolbox finally on her lap, she pulled out a flashlight and turned it on. A high beam light bounced around the interior of the car as she searched to discover what type of situation she was in.

Noin turned the light to her right and found herself staring at a wall of rock and tree braches, covering the whole right side of the car. No way out from there, she thought before turning her flash light to her left. But she found nothing except blackness.

A sense of forbidding filled her as she leaned carefully over, ignoring the dull throbbing from her chest and shone the flash light down. What she saw told her that she may not be able to make it out alive.

The car had not come crashing down to the ground as she had expected but was clipped around large tree branches that were growing from the cliff wall. Without the large trees holding her car, it would go tumbling down to the ground below. Noin pulled out a spanner and threw it out the window hoping to hear it hit the ground but she never heard it. She knew then that she had to get out NOW.

The roots of the tree pulled slightly from the cliff wall forcing the groaning car slightly down. Pocketing the flashlight, Noin smothered her gasped as she struggling to swallow past her fear and to get out NOW. She knew she couldn't leave by the left side of the car or she'd go tumbling to the ground below. The only option left was the right side of the car, the side that was facing the cliff wall.

Noin ignored the pain from her chest and carefully pulled herself to the right, glad that the windows were open.

A screech echoed in the cliffs as the car abruptly slid.

Noin grabbed a thick tree branch that was sticking through the window and held it tightly. She closed her eyes mentally counting to ten, in the hopes to calm her.

Using the downward momentum of the car she pushed against the seat and the dashboard with her feet - the loud groaning of metal, the car lurched further towards the cavern below, leaving an opening between the cliff wall and the scrap of metal that was once known as a car. Carefully, not to strain her ribs further, Noin pulled herself through opening and reached out to grab another branch. Relieved that it held her weight, she pulled the rest of her body from the wreck.

Her breathing was beginning to become rapid and difficult to breath. She was in an awkward position and knew that she was only making it worse. She held tightly as she searched for a position to settle her body and not disturb the balance of the vehicle. But it was too late.

The tree roots ripped abruptly from the cliff wall.

Noin screamed as the stability under her feet disappeared leaving her dangling in mid air. The crushed car tumbled down to the cavern below and a loud screeching of metal smashing against the ground echoed through the cliffs. A ball of fire burst through the air with explosive heat before vanishing into a bright steady flame of what was once known as a car.

Noin closed her eyes as she realized that the only thing that was keeping her from repeating her cars performance (with the exception of exploding into fire and a lot more bloody) was the tree root she was holding onto.

How was she going to get out of this?
