Memories flew into her mind as she held Kayane suspended in the air, brutal ripping through his mind. Thoughts and feelings came to her as she watched what happened and she tightened her hold on the mans throat before throwing him to the ground again. He was a disgusting creature, not because he was human but because he delighted in what had happened. It was sickening, reminding her of the filthy men who had degraded her when she was younger and unable to stop them. She would kill him herself but she wouldn't deny Hiei that satisfaction. The only thing she needed to do was make sure that word of this did not leak out to the Reikai about what was to happen. She didn't need Koenma breathing down her neck because of scum like this.

"Your request is granted Youko." Mukuro turned to the apparition who was watching silently in the corner. "Take this piece of trash to the regeneration chamber and get him fixed up. No one besides myself or Hiei is to be granted entrance into that room and you will not breathe a word of this to anyone. Is that understood?" She knew her orders would be followed exactly, she didn't keep anyone incompetent in her ranks and they were all loyal to a fault. Once that was done sent her mind outwards, seeking the connection she had with Hiei. It didn't take long for her to find it, she could sense his surprise at the touch though.

Hiei's head jerked up when he felt her brush against his mind. He forced himself to relax before anyone noticed that there was something amiss. Usually he was the one to contact her to prevent suspicion from being raised, he wondered why exactly she would break that pattern now and what the hell had riled her up so badly. He could feel her anger spilling over through the link. 'What the hell is going on over there?'

Mukuro stared out the window up into the night sky, she could sense his irritation and impatience already. It was to be expected, his position was tenuous at best and he was still pissed at being pulled out of the Ningenkai to take this mission. 'Don't snap at me Hiei, I've had a bad night as it is. One of your friends showed up on my doorstep dragging a half dead human with him. You need to get your ass back here now.'

Hiei tensed again when he heard that, his thoughts immediately of Kagome. Who else would one of his "friends" bring to Mukuro? He didn't bother saying anything to anyone that was in the room with him, instead standing and walking out the door. They could make their own assumptions as to where he was going, he didn't give a damn. For Mukuro to call him back it had to be important. 'I'm on my way. Who showed up and what the hell happened to Kagome?'

Mukuro nearly laughed earning herself an odd look from Youko. She ignored him in favor of the conversation she was involved in, it would figure that he would assume the half dead human to be the girl. 'Calm down Hiei, Kagome is fine as far as I know. Youko made an appearance, the human is someone I'm sure you'll wish to speak to. It's one of the humans responsible for what happened to your woman. Should I keep him alive for you or just kill him now?'

A growl erupted from his chest as he raced through the darkness back to the fortress. Finally he would have his chance to exact his revenge on one of the bastards who did this, He had been waiting for an opportunity to do something but he had been stopped long before he had the chance. Kurama had said that it was being taken care of by the human authorities. To him that wasn't good enough but then everything had come crashing down on him and he had to put those thoughts on hold. But now, now one of them was within his reach. 'Don't touch him, his life is mine.'

Mukuro smirked at his response, it was just as she had expected. 'Agreed, he's already on his way to the regen tank now to wait for your return.' She felt him close the link off, no doubt he was moving at top speed. She had still felt the underlying worry for Kagome through the connection and knew that it stemmed from who was currently staying with her, assuming her guess was right. She turned to Youko who was regarding her calmly. "He is on his way. From the sounds of it, he is certainly looking forward to meeting our guest."

"I take it he will be here within a few hours then. Good, is he wanting me to wait here or shall I return to the Ningenkai?" As much as Youko wanted to remain in the Makai he knew that his time was running short. Kurama was already reminding him that daylight would be approaching soon and they still had responsibilities to attend to at home. No doubt both Yusuke and Kagome were wondering where they were.

"He didn't say Youko, whether you stay or not is up to you. If I may ask, who watches over the girl now?" Mukuro fully expected that he would stay, if nothing else for the entertainment factor. It wasn't often that he was given free reign to kill and no matter what form he wore on the outside he was still a youkai with youkai instincts.

"Yusuke does, he was carrying her home when I decided to bring this fool across the border. Don't worry, he'll take good care of her until we return. I'll be taking my leave soon however. I still have things I must attend to in the Ningenkai." Youko knew that Yusuke wouldn't allow anything to happen to Kagome while they were gone but it was still better safe than sorry. She was likely to be very emotional considering what she had heard.

"Very well, was that wise though letting Yusuke be the one to take her back? If these feelings he has are as strong as you say." Mukuro was trying to get every detail of information that she possibly could. Hiei never was much of a source of information and if nothing else she enjoyed hearing what went on across the border. This would also tell her what kind of temper to expect Hiei to be in once he had finished with his fun.

"Yusuke won't allow anything to harm her, nor would he do so himself. He knows the consequences of his actions should he do so, it is sufficient. Still, there is no need to cause unnecessary concern for any of them. No doubt Hiei would prefer me to be there, should we be expecting him to return after he finishes with the human?" Youko waited for her answer, if she intended on holding Hiei here after this was done she had another thing coming. He doubted Hiei would object to going back to the Ningenkai anyway but if he did he would personally kick his ass, truss him up and drag him back across the border like luggage.

At this question Mukuro actually did laugh, finding it amusing. She doubted that she could keep the hybrid here after this and if she tried she'd have one hell of a fight on her hands. "Are you serious Youko? Do you honestly think I could keep him here after this? You seriously underestimate the amount of feelings he had for that girl if you think he would remain here. I was certain I would have to drag him here myself to even do this mission. Irritated doesn't begin to describe him when he arrived." Memories of that day came back to her. She had just received several new recruits that morning when Hiei had come in, needless to say by the time he finished with them there were only two left among the living and both were seriously injured. Afterwards everyone had deemed it necessary to give him his space that day.

"You have a point, though I don't think I will tell Kagome that he is coming back in case he gets delayed. Knowing him this could take a while. Thank you for the audience Mukuro. It's time for me to return to the Ningenkai." Youko stood and made ready to leave, his work was done here. No doubt Kurama would have some explaining to do when they returned. Yusuke could be trusted with this but he'd rather Kagome not know. It would just be one more thing for her to feel guilty for.

"You're probably right in that decision Youko, there's no telling how long he will drag this out though since he knows she's waiting for him he may surprise us and end it quickly. Though he may return to the Ningenkai first, it will take a while for this human to recover enough for Hiei to enjoy what he wants to do. Ultimately the decision is his. Have a safe journey Youko." She watched as he nodded and walked out of the room. He had a decent run in front of him and by the looks of his aura his human counterpart was becoming impatient. Mukuro shook her head, she couldn't imagine what it would be like to be trapped inside of another person like that, it was a wonder that the kitsune hadn't gone insane.

As soon as Youko walked out of the fortress he began running, Kurama would be the one to take over as soon as the reached the border but not before since he was the one able to get them there faster. Work was only but one of the reasons Kurama had wanted to leave quickly, both of them were concerned over what they saw while Yusuke was fighting with Kayane. Not only had the Toushin been willing to kill a human without considering the risks of what would happen to him but he had been very close to changing right there. It was one of the things that had helped them find him so quickly when they decided to go looking.

What had them even more concerned was his reaction to both girls. Kagome had been able to calm him instantly which shouldn't have been so easy all things considered. It spoke of the courting mark he had given her developing a stronger bond. Whether it was one sided or not remained to be seen but it was something that Hiei was going to find out about eventually. One could only guess at the hybrid's reaction to this revelation. The other troubling thought was that Yusuke didn't bother to even spare Keiko a concerned glance when she ran off. He had seen it all, the girl finally knew the truth. Even he could feel the guilt and shame rolling off of her, no doubt from what she had thought and said to Yusuke. Before Yusuke would have at least made an attempt to stop her and offer some sort of comfort but instead he brushed her off as if she wasn't worth his time and preoccupied himself with Kagome. If he wasn't mistaken, Hiei was going to have one hell of a fight on his hands to keep the girl unless they reached some sort of compromise. With Yusuke being a demon as well the instincts of both would come into play and neither would be willing to give her up.

No doubt Yusuke was using this latest encounter to get closer to Kagome, she'd be emotionally distraught now and in need of some sort of comfort which Yusuke would be only too happy to give to her. Of course, with Hiei returning soon that wouldn't necessarily be a good thing. A few times he had come home to find Kagome already asleep and Yusuke had climbed in bed next to her, watching over her while she slept. They had warned him it wasn't a good idea to do so but Yusuke had merely shrugged the warnings off saying that it kept her from having nightmares and he wasn't going to stop doing it. Kagome had no idea of what he was doing thankfully, they didn't need her any more confused than she was. She always had been close to Yusuke and it would be only to easy for those feelings of affection to grow with Hiei gone.

Youko shook his head, the both of them were fools in his opinion. How did they think Kagome was going to take it when it actually did come down to a fight over her? And if one of them were hurt or killed did they really think that she'd accept the victor with open arms? It wasn't likely, she'd resent whoever survived the encounter and they'd lose her anyway. He couldn't blame either one of them for wanting her but ultimately it should be her choice. As desirable as he found her he wasn't going to join into the fray unless it was absolutely necessary.

He continued running towards the border, his thoughts never drifting from the current problem at hand. Even though all of his experiences he had never had this problem before. Normally it wouldn't be something he'd involve himself in at all, calling the men fools for fighting over a woman but he couldn't do that this time. His life such as it was had certainly become interesting but then he supposed that's what he got for pissing the Reikai off enough to come hunting him. The border was now within sight and it was with a regretful sigh that he allowed Kurama to take over once more.

Kurama looked up into the sky wearily. It wouldn't be long before it was time for him to go and the thought past through his mind that maybe this would be a good day to call in. He decided against it though, while he could take time off as needed it wasn't something he wanted to make a habit of and that seemed to be what it had become. He'd go home, inform Yusuke of what had happened and then get ready for work. He could only pray that when Hiei arrived the didn't kill each other or if they tried they'd at least take it outside. He didn't want to even consider how much damage would be done if it came to blows in the house.

The rest of the trip back continued to be uneventful as expected, he reached the front door to his home within fifteen minutes. Of course everything was quiet when he went inside, he would have been surprised if either Yusuke or Kagome had been up and about. He made his way toward the bedroom where he knew that they would be and opened the door. As expected Kagome was asleep, clutching Hiei's cloak yet again. His eyes fell to Yusuke and he sighed, he was laying next to her yet again but this time he had both arms wrapped around her. The man certainly wasn't making this any easier for any of them. He walked silently to the bed and touched Yusuke on the arm. Kurama had no desire to wake Kagome up, she'd find out what was going on then. Of course the man didn't stir, he slept like the dead on most occasions.

With reluctance Kurama pulled forth a flower and held it beneath Kagome's nose for several long seconds sending her into a deeper sleep. Once that was done he pulled Yusuke's arms off of her which was by no means easy. "Yusuke wake up! I need to talk to you." Thankfully at the sound of his voice Yusuke began to open his eyes. "About time, I thought I would have to drag you off the bed and dump ice water on you."

Yusuke rubbed his eyes and moved to get off of the bed. He had meant to stay awake for Kurama's return, he wanted to know what happened to the bastard. "So spill, I know you and Youko did something." He caught the glance that Kurama threw towards Kagome and understood. This wasn't something she needed to wake up to. "Fine, lets take this to the living room."

"Agreed, there's a few things you need to know." Kurama let Yusuke head out first, glancing towards the window. There was no telling how much time they had, Hiei probably wouldn't stay gone long. 'It's going to be a long day.' He had to smile at Youko's response that it wouldn't be for him, after this he intended on sleeping. It would figure, he got to be the one who suffered through it. He walked out of the room shutting the door quietly behind him, Kagome shouldn't awaken anytime soon due to the pollen but it was better safe than sorry. Yusuke was already sitting down on the couch by the time he walked into the living room.

Yusuke leveled a serious look at Kurama, no hint of the usual cocky playfulness he exhibited. "Is he dead?" He hadn't even felt Youko's approach until Kagome had thrown her arms around him, he was too filled with rage over what the bastard had admitted to. He was a bit surprised that he stopped when he did, he had fully intended on ending the man's life but thought better of it for Kagome's sake.

Kurama dropped gracefully into a nearby chair and rubbed his temples. "No he's not, at least not yet anyway though for how long that remains the case I am not sure. I took him to Mukuro's." He waited to see what Yusuke would say to this, taking in the boys look of surprise. Truthfully he was a bit surprised himself, he would have thought that Youko would kill the man himself but he hadn't. He could feel how much Youko had wanted to, he had as well if he were to be totally honest. Kayane may not have been the one to put it in her drink but he'd had a chance to stop it and hadn't. It made him just as guilty in their eyes.

"So does that mean Mukuro's going to do it or is Hiei going to be the one to kill him?" Yusuke didn't really care for this new piece of information. If Mukuro knew what had happened tonight then Hiei would know soon as well. Would he come back like he had said or would he stay gone, leaving her in their care?

Kurama could read the Toushin like an open book, he wasn't concerned with who killed Kayane just so long as it was done. What he really wanted to know was how much his current routine was about to be disrupted. "Hiei will be the one to do it, just like I am sure he will want to deal with Maiko in a similar fashion though I am not sure how easily he will be able to accomplish it without the Reikai finding out. You were lucky you caught Kayane where you did, it was easy to slip him across. He'll just have become another casualty of crossing the border and finding trouble before the patrol found him."

Yusuke shrugged and put his hands up behind his head. He wasn't particularly surprised by this information, he knew Hiei would want Maiko's life for what she had done. He had been there along with everyone else when a detective had come and questioned Kagome about that night. The man had said they were continuing to look into it and that they would be in touch. The last thing he had heard was that it was an ongoing investigation because no one would come forward saying that they saw her putting it into the drink. It was a bunch of bullshit as far as he was concerned but then again his opinion didn't matter to the authorities. "Yeah well, I wasn't exactly looking for convenient when I decided he needed his ass beat. Though I guess it worked out for the best. So did you see him?"

"No Yusuke, he was out in the field on a special mission though Mukuro let him know what was going on. He's on his way back now." Kurama paused, unsure of just how far to push this conversation. He took a deep breath, if he didn't do it now he might never get the chance. "Yusuke, we need to talk about your relationship with Kagome."

Yusuke stiffened, he had been expecting something like this from Kurama for a while. He was surprised that the kitsune had waited so long to say anything actually but it didn't change matters. "Yeah I guess we do. If you're going to tell me to back off and leave her to Hiei you can save your breath." He wasn't like they were, he couldn't seemingly turn his emotions on and off like a light switch and he wasn't even going to try.

"I thought as much but I still have to try Yusuke. You do realize that if you two can't work this out he will challenge you for her. Do you really think Kagome wants either of you fighting over her?" Kurama hoped that he could appeal to the man's affection for her, if he could accomplish that then there was a chance that he would leave her to Hiei and move on with his life.

"No, I doubt she'd like that at all but... Dammit Kurama why can't you understand? Haven't you ever loved anyone before? This isn't something that can just go away like it was never there! He hurt her Kurama do you honestly think he deserves her love after all of this?" He didn't want to hear this, any of it. Hiei could stay in the Makai for all he cared. He liked the guy well enough but there was only so far his friendship was willing to go. He couldn't let go of Kagome, not now, not ever.

Kurama stared coldly at Yusuke, his patience was running short. "You would be doing well to remember who it is you are talking to here Yusuke. I'm well aware of how love feels as well as knowing that it will never be returned. Don't think that you can speak to me as if I know nothing about the subject. As far as the rest goes, Hiei was the one to help her get over the death of her first love. He was the one that healed the mental scars that had been inflicted upon her. Him, not you. Yes, he has hurt her through this but you forget that you had a hand in this as well even if it was unintentional." Kurama's eyes were completely golden now showing just how much of Youko's influence was bleeding through. "If Hiei were to walk through the door right now and she had to choose between the two of you do you honestly believe she would turn him away? As you said, feelings that deep don't just disappear."
