Chapter 7 At the End of the Day - part2

 

Sengoku

 

Kagome had delayed her return to the present for a week and a half in order to monitor Kuronue until they reached Keade's village. After making sure that he was resting comfortably and explaining that she would return shortly she headed to the well with Shippo following her. In the last few days Kagome and Shippo - as well as the others - had learned a bit more about Kuronue, they found out that he had a friend - a partner in crime, Kagome had said after discovering they were thieves - named Youko, who was a silver kitsune. Kuronue was anxious to find his friend and Kagome promised that they would find Youko as soon as he had healed; Kuronue wanted to introduce Youko to Kagome and the group. Kuronue had told Kagome and the group some about himself and in turn they had shared some of their stories with him. Kagome hadn't voiced her worry that he didn't seem to be getting better and had acquired a fever in the last two days and there was also some numbness in his left hand. Before she had left for the well she had explained her complete story to the bat demon- or at least most of it, for the time being she left Alecto out of the story. Kuronue was fascinated by her story, but didn't doubt it - after all she was a miko who had saved his life and was helping him heal. As Kagome reached the well she picked Shippo up and decided to ask Alecto about what she thought could be wrong with Kuronue.

{You don't need to ask, I will help out after our meeting}

Kagome jumped [Gah, couldn't you give me a little warning?]

{I could, but what fun would that be.}

[You're just a little crazy, ya know that?]

Alecto shrugs mentally {possibly, but I'm not worried about it. By the way if you don't hurry you're going to have some company that it may be difficult to get away from. See ya soon.}

Kagome blinked a looked around, catching a glimpse of white she nodded slightly and quickly hopped into the well - not wanting to meet up with who she assumed was Youko, especially since she would smell like Kuronue's blood, she decided it would be better if Kuronue was with her when they met. As the blue light engulfed her and Shippo she smiled slightly - time to learn more about herself and Alecto.

 

A few seconds after Kagome had hopped into the well a tall figure clothed in white stepped into the clearing and looked around. His ears twitched slightly as he surveyed his surroundings.

“I know there was someone here.” He sniffed slightly and was even more confused, he recognized the scent of a kit (an earthy, clean scent) and wondered why it was here without a parent, the next scent was mixed with blood - it smelled like Kuronue's (night musk), and the other scent was like two different beings - one was slightly hidden within the other as if it wasn't really there, but somehow was at the same time - the more predominate of the scents was lily and damask rose (Kagome), the more hidden scent was wild mint and sandalwood (Alecto). These last two scents were both female and both carried the lightest scent of lavender.

“These scents are strange; I'll just have to check back here after my next job.” In the blink of an eye the tall fox was gone.

 

Present - Alecto's

Alecto had been up and about earlier then usual, getting things ready before her and Kagome's meeting with the others. War and Kane were watching her as she would pick out one outfit, put it on, and then change her mind.

“Lec, what's got you so wound up? You know Kagome and you know us - you shouldn't be nervous.”

Alecto stopped in the den where Kane and War were sitting “Most of it is coming from Kagome; she's a bit nervous about meeting you and the others and finding out what I have to tell her.”

War raises an eyebrow slightly “Care to elaborate?”

Alecto fidgets slightly “Well, we kinda …um… linked our minds and powers a bit so that we can contact and find each other.”

War blinks “Alright, you do know that leaves traces of your scent in each others right? It will be pretty well hidden most of the time, but a little stronger when you are communicating”

Alecto “Of course I know that.”

War rolls his eyes slightly “I had been wondering why I was catching a second scent from you occasionally. I think that this won't cause any problems.”

Alecto nods as she walks back to her room to change and comes back out wearing a sheer burgundy skirt with a pair of black fighting shorts underneath it that stop at the middle of her thigh and a low backed black corset that laced up the front. There are silver ankhs embroidered on the corset. War's eyes widen when she walks into the room flexing her wings, it is getting harder to ignore his feelings for her - especially when she was dressed the way she was right now. Alecto was stretching and when she turned to look at War she blinked slightly at the slightly glazed look in his eyes.

“Yo War what's up?” she asks while flicking her tail at him.

Why did she have to ask that question? By the Gods and Goddesses she looks amazing though.

War blinked when he heard Kane's chuffing laughter and had to blink again when Alecto's tail brushed across the tip of his nose.

“Nothing important just thinking. Kane and I are going to head over to the mansion, alright?”

Alecto nods “Ok, Kagome and I will meet you there in a bit. She is getting ready right now.”

War stood up and walked over to Alecto “See you soon.” He placed a quick kiss on her forehead - being unable to resist - before fading into the shadows, followed quickly by Kane who was grinning.

“Wonder what that was about” she mumbled as she grabbed her necklace wrapped dagger and headed to Kagome's - opening a portal a couple of blocks from the shrine. She felt Kagome's presence inside the house and noted that Shippo was with her, while waiting outside in the Goshinboku she hummed a little to herself.

{Kagome you leaving yet?}

[Yeah in a minute, you're shadowing me and Shippo to the park where you are opening a portal for all three of us correct?]

{That's the plan, just as soon as you're ready I am.}

[Alright, we're heading out now.]

Kagome stepped outside wearing an outfit that looked like a combination between miko garb and a Chinese fighting outfit - the pants were black with green vines snaking up the legs and the top was plum colored with a pale green dragon wrapping around it, she also wore a pair of black fighting slippers and her hair was pulled back in a high ponytail. Shippo was wearing his normal clothes and was hidden in the folds of her top.

{Nice outfit girl and I see you have the dagger I gave you tucked up your sleeve.}

[Yes, and it amazes me how you do that. Thank you and Shippo says hi.]

{Tell him hi from me and I have a treat for him when we get to the sibling's mansion.}

Alecto saw Shippo's tail wag before Kagome calmed him down and then headed down the shrine steps and towards the park a few blocks away with Alecto following in the shadows and trees.

Yu Yu Gang

“So what are we doing again?” Yusuke asked

“We are just checking out the area for Koenma, seeing if there is anything unusual in the area.” Kurama answered.

“Yeah, but why?” Kuwabara asked

“Because some one - most likely a demon has been targeting shrine maidens recently. There is a shrine close by so we are checking the area.”

“Oh.” Was the intelligent answer from Yusuke and Kuwabara.

Hiei rolled his eyes and continued walking, as the others bantered back and forth. Just then a girl walked into Hiei and stumbled before righting herself.

Kagome and Alecto

About a block from the park, Kagome was listening to Alecto mentally ramble on about something which sounded like she had to visit an irritating toddler. She wasn't really paying to much attention to where she was going because not many people were out as it was getting dark and most people where home having dinner.

{Stupid, irritating, little… yo Kagome watch….}

Just as Alecto was about to warn Kagome to move she ran into something hard and stumbled back slightly - managing to catch herself before she fell, afraid that she would hurt Shippo if she did. She could hear Alecto's mental chuckle and mumbled under her breath “yeah nice friend you are.”

{I tried to warn you.}

“Sorry miss we weren't paying attention to where we were going.” Kurama spoke

Kagome looked up “It's alright, I wasn't either and I was in a hurry as well.” She looked at Hiei “Sorry about that.”

“Hn”

Kagome shrugged slightly - being used to Inuyasha and encounters with Sesshomaru.

Alecto had stopped laughing and looked over from her spot in a nearby tree.

{Ah shit - it had to be them.}

Kagome blinked at her friend's words and tilted her head slightly toward the place where Alecto was perched.

[Alecto, what's wrong?]

{It's the toddler's detectives. What the hell are they doing here? Shippo stay still and quiet, alright?}

<Alright.>

[I don't know what they are here for but I'll just act normal. Besides your close by if anything happens.]

{Yeah, true- but you feel their energies yes? This is going to be a little training - we'll discuss it later.}

[Alright and yes I do.]

“Miss are you alright?”

Kagome blinked “Oh yes, just thinking. I really must be going; I'm going to be late. I'm sorry to rush but it was nice meeting you.”

As Kagome walked off she hoped that she wouldn't meet up with anyone else.

 

(Hey, what's going on?) Youko asked Kurama as he woke up from a nap.

/Other then observing for Koenma, running into people. Or rather Hiei ran into someone, in any case she has left. /

(She - ooo was pretty.)

/Youko can you think about anything else? /

(Umm…maybe)

Just then Youko caught a scent on the air (Hey I've smelled those scents before)

/What are you talking about now Youko? /

(That scent is more then one, I smelled it centuries ago. Show me what this girl looked like.)

/I doubt it is the same person then Youko. / However he showed Youko anyway.

(Interesting outfit, you don't find it strange.)

/…maybe she is training. /

“Youko thinks that her outfit was interesting.”

{Damn - time for a distraction.} Alecto pulled a small seed from a pouch at her hip and let some of her power flow into it before throwing near the detectives. The seed landed in the grass just to the side of them and suddenly sprouted vines which wrapped around the legs of Kuwabara and Yusuke.

“What the hell?!” Yusuke yelled

“Ahhh get it off me!” Kuwabara screamed

Hiei snorted - as he found this amusing and Kurama tried to use his energy to remove the vines but the plant refused to listen to him.

“I don't know who sent this plant but it won't listen, it told me that I am not its owner and that it doesn't have to listen to me.”

Alecto chuckled before summoning the plant back to her- were the vine happily wrapped around her are - and following Kagome who had reached the park and was waiting.

 

As Alecto landed beside Kagome she stretches her wings before laying them against her back.

“So, what took you so long Alecto?”

“Just causing a little distraction and disorder among the detectives.” Alecto chuckled.

Kagome rolls her eyes slightly “Are you ready then?”

Alecto nods and opens a portal, after they step through it closes.

 

The detectives turn in the direction the girl had gone, feeling energy like a portal has been opened. They look at each other before heading in that direction. When the reach the park no one is there, Yusuke calls Koenma to tell him.

“Yo toddler, we think a portal was opened here.”

“Yusuke I'm not a TODDLER!! I'll send Botan to check it out.”

Yusuke closes his communicator just before Botan shows up, she locates were the portal was opened but when she tries to open one to the place or to get the location she can't.

“This only happens when…oh”

“When what Botan?” Kurama asks

“Um when it is the siblings or Alecto's doing, it seems that we can't follow them or even get a location that their portals go to. Maybe we should see what Koenma thinks.”

“Fine, let's go.” Yusuke grumbles.

They all follow Botan through a portal into Koenma's office.

 

Alecto and Kagome step into a stone room that has some comfortable looking furniture in it. Shippo hops onto Kagome's shoulder and looks around, just then two doors on one side of the room opens and in walk six people and what appears to be a large lion. The lion like creature takes a seat near a high backed chair which is situated near an ornate marble fireplace.

“Well have a seat, we have much to discuss.” A soft female voice says

Alecto takes the seat by the Kane, Kagome sits across from her and Shippo hops into her lap. The rest of the people sit on couches or in chairs before anything else is said. Kagome takes in their appearances while Alecto hands Shippo a lollipop. One of the males took the next closest seat to Alecto.

“Alright, introductions -everyone this is Kagome and the kit is Shippo. Kagome this is Kane - he's related to the creatures known as the gryphon, except he only has the feline traits. Then this is War, Tempest is next to him across from them are Hope and destiny, finally there is Fate and Harmony.” Alecto said as she pointed out whom she was introducing.

“Kagome, Shippo welcome to our home. Kagome we wanted to meet you and discuss a few things and I think that Alecto wants to talk to you also. Firstly it is nice to finally meet you in your physical body.” Fate spoke

“Thank you, I'm happy to meet all of you.”

“You, Alecto and Kane share a destiny for your paths crossed many years ago - many lifetimes and generations for some families. This path is neither going to be the easiest, nor the safest but it is of extreme importance to everyone. Not to put pressure on you or anything.” Tempest chimed in.

Kagome raises an eyebrow “But what about the jewel shards and Naraku?”

Harmony answered this “Not to worry, it won't be until after your current adventure, and Alecto will be training you and will be helping you.”

Kagome nods “Alright.”

Tempest decides to voice his thoughts “Also if Kane just shows up occasionally think nothing of it - he tends to do that. Also War may show up to check on Alecto.”

Alecto raises an eyebrow and chuckles when War reaches over and punches Tempest on the shoulder.

“Alright Alecto wants to talk to Kagome, Shippo why don't come with us for a few minutes while the talk. Kane is also staying.”

Shippo looks to Kagome who nods; he hops off her lap and walks over to Fate. The siblings exit the room with Shippo, though War seems a bit reluctant to. Alecto looks up at Kagome as the doors close.

“I wanted to tell you a little more Kagome.”

Kagome was a bit nervous because this was the most serious and solemn that Alecto had been since they had met up again.

“Our path is not completely set, however we are going to face an evil greater then Naraku. There will be an army that stands against us, but we will have our friends support. There is darkness, pain and sorrow - I don't know the conclusion, but I promise you know that it will be alright. You, me and Kane are the ones that the prophecy is written about.”

Kagome blinks “So this is going to be worse then Naraku?”

Alecto nods slightly “I won't lie; it's going to be bad. I fear for all those that I care about and I will protect them no matter what. Remember that at the end of the day you know you are loved and have done the right thing. This keeps me going when things seem hopeless and impossible.”

“Alright I will and at least we have time to prepare.”

Alecto smiles slightly “Yes we do. So what do you think of the siblings and Kane here?” she asks as she scratches behind his ears.

“They are very nice; I hope to talk with them again.”

“You will.”

 

War is walking with Destiny “Why did she want to talk without us there?”

“War; there are some things that are hard even for Alecto to accept. She feels things about the confrontation to come.”

“What do you mean?”

“Even we don't know what will happen exactly and there are some things that even we can't change if we wanted too.”

War is silent for a minute “You mean something is going to happen to Alecto?!”

“I honestly don't know, those details are foggy and unclear.”

“But I…I don't want anything bad to happen to her.”

Destiny stops walking and turns to face her brother “War my dear brother, you love Alecto don't you?”

War nods slightly “Yes, for awhile now.”

“Then tell her soon, she needs to know. Tell her and be happy for the time you may have, for we can't see what is coming. I know you want to protect her but she will do what she thinks is right.”

War nods slightly “I will tell her when we get home.”

“Let's head back to the living room, the others are headed there to.”

 

Alecto and Kagome look to the doors as they open and Shippo comes bouncing in ahead of the siblings.

“So we should be heading back before it gets too late.” Alecto says.

Kagome nods and stands picking up Shippo “It was nice meeting you all.”

“You as well Kagome.” Fate responds

Alecto stands and creates a portal, War and Kane coming to stand beside her “See ya later guys.”

Kagome carrying Shippo step through followed by War, Kane and Alecto. They step out of it on the shrine grounds.

“Well go inside and get some rest Kagome and I will see you soon to go check out this bat for you.”

Kagome nods and yawns, Shippo is already half asleep “Goodnight.”

Alecto, War and Kane watch as she walks inside before leaving through another portal to reach Alecto's home. As they enter her home she walks into her room and lays down her dagger and necklace.

“I'm going to grab a shower, why don't you guys get something to eat.”

War nods and heads to the kitchen with Kane following him, War decides he will tell her before the go to bed. After they eat the head back into the living room and turn on the TV, Alecto walks in wearing a pair of flannel pajamas - modified to accommodate her wings and tail. She curls up on the couch between War and Kane to watch Braveheart, after that they head to her room since she was up early. As Kane curls up and falls asleep, War picks Alecto up and sits down on the bed. Alecto raises an eyebrow at him “What are you doing?”

“Alecto I want to tell you something.”

“Ok.”

“It's just that…I mean for years I have felt strongly for you and I … um wanted to tell you that I…thatI love you (that I love you).”

Alecto blinks before smiling and kissing the tip of his nose “I love you too, just never thought you bring up the topic.”

War blinks “Well that was easy.”

Alecto nods “It was.”

She cuddles against him as they lay down, he places a gently kiss on her lips before pulling her tighter against him “Goodnight dear one.”

“Goodnight my heart.” She whispers against his neck before falling into a peaceful sleep.

War lays awake for awhile longer, just holding her close to him and breathing in her scent, before pulling the blankets around them and falling asleep.

 

Koenma had sent the detectives home after telling them to leave it alone, that neither the siblings nor Alecto had done anything bad and that they were probably just passing to discuss some matter or another with one of their contacts or each other. Yusuke had grumbled about not knowing what was going on, but left to go on a date with Keiko and the others left to go home - or in Hiei's case to watch over Yukina.
