Authors note: wow, I got reviews from some of my favorite authors… so I guess this means I'm going to continue with this story. Well I'm still unsure of where this is going, but I'm just listening to the little voices in my head and am doing what they tell me to do. Anyways, on with the fic!
The first sense that came back to her was sound. She could hear the dripping of a faucet in a nearby bathroom. The buzzing of a fly outside her window. The footsteps of her mother in the hall. Then the pain came.
The pain shot across her chest and ran through her entire body. Gasping for air, she arched her back and bit back a scream as another wave of it shot through her. She whimpered as the memories came flooding back into her mind. Hissing from the pain, she sat up sharply and grabbed at her neck. Wincing at the contact of skin, she ran her fingers over burn marks that spread around her neck, and down her chest. Something wasn't right. Her hand touched a cool, sharp something residing on the dip of her clavicle. She frowned. Against better judgment, she made an attempt on getting out of her bed, but all she accomplished was falling out of it, and landing roughly on the floor on her hands an knees. Grunting with the pain, she looked around and took in her surroundings. She was in her room, dressed in the same clothes she was in before, and had bandages across her head, and taped to parts of her chest and back. Looking out the window, she saw that the sun was setting. Her brow furrowed in confusion.
This is odd, I found that dreaded necklace when the sun was setting. That must mean that another day has gone by… how much time has truly passed since then?
Dismissing the matter as something unimportant at the moment, she weakly dragged herself across her bedroom floor, in search of a mirror. After a half hour of laborious breathing and a great deal of effort, she made it the ten feet across her room to her full mirror. Propping herself up against her dresser, she peered into the mirror at her reflection and gasped at what she saw.
What she had taken for burn marks, in a sense were, but at the same time, weren't. It was the two dragons. They looked to be tattooed into her skin in the same intricate pattern the necklace was in. continuing her inspection of herself she gasped in surprise at what she saw next. Between their mouths the jewel fragment sat, half way lodged into her skin, right at the dip of her clavicle.
Spooked, she frantically grabbed at her throat in hopes of somehow removing the monstrous thing that was now a part of her. But it was useless. The dragons were a part of her now, as was the jewel set into her body. A wave of nausea came over our poor little miko, and her vision blurred for a moment, but she fought it, and stayed conscious. Looking back into the mirror, she inspected the results of the necklace further. Peeling the bandages off her body, she saw that in every place that the metal had splashed her, there were the beginnings of a marking of some sort. They looked like scars, but she knew better. Long, delicate lines were etched across her skin to form an elegant pattern, the pattern of some sort of spell. But the odd thing was that it was only partially completed. Now this confused Kagome. Why would the necklace do this to her, but only partially?
She paused as another wave of pain shot through her. It felt as if she wasn't complete, like she was being ripped apart. Breathing heavily, she placed her forehead against the cool glass of the mirror and closed her eyes. Trying to regulate her breathing, she focused on calming herself.
Time began to slow down. She felt everything come to a standstill. Her eyelids felt heavy, her body fell to the floor, and Kagome lost consciousness.
oOoOoOoOo Kagome's dream oOoOoOoOo
Black. That was all she could see. Nothingness. Absolutely nothing. She was floating in a void. Her fear rising, her aura began to fluctuate. After a minute or so, her senses began to catch up with her. She was sitting on something. Patting the ground around her, she felt grass. Then the lights were turned on.
*Bam*
She was in a clearing in some forest. The grass was green, the sky was blue, birds were chirping, and unfortunately, the insects were about. No chemicals. No cars honking, people screaming at each other, no modern anything. Just Mother Nature. Looking about, she saw a gorgeous hot spring just beckoning her to take a good soak in. standing up, she realized that she wasn't in any pain. Running over to the hot spring, she peered into the pool wondering what her reflection would be.
Whatever she was expecting, it definably wasn't it.
Her reflection wasn't human. It was in fact, a demon. Long forest green bangs framed a face of pure perfection. The creature had silver markings on her cheekbones, and eyelids. Her eyes. Those were the most striking feature of her face. They were pure silver, outlined in gold. Captivated, Kagome just stared.
Giving her a fanged grin, the demon raised a clawed hand and pointed at Kagome. Eyebrows raising in wonder, Kagome pointed at herself in question as if asking “who, me?”
Nodding her head in the affirmative, the demoness made her next sign. It was if she was shooing Kagome away. Understanding, Kagome stepped back from the spring. Sitting down on the grass a few feet away, she looked expectantly at the pool.
The surface began to ripple. After a minute or two, a hand emerged in the center of the pool. Then a second hand followed. The water seemed to freeze over then, and the hands braced themselves on the ice of the spring. Heaving herself up the demoness came out of the pools depths. She stood up on the ice, and watched Kagome's reaction.
Kagome couldn't keep herself from staring. The demoness was a few inches taller than her. She had wide hips, a flat stomach, and a decent size bosom. Her forest green hair reached about mid thigh, and she had silver stripes on her wrists, hips, and ankles. She wore interesting clothes. She had a simple silver sleeveless belly shirt on, and white pants that reminded Kagome of Sesshoumaru. What astonished Kagome though, was what identified what type of demon the demoness was. Giant wings adorned her back. They were black and leathery, but the end of the thumb, and each digit of the wing was silver tipped with gold. She also had a tail. Kagome giggled when she saw it because it reminded her of a little devils tail: long and snakelike, and it ended in a diamond shape. The tail itself was black, but the diamond shape at the end was again, silver and tipped in gold.
Kagome caught herself staring when she saw the amused face of magnificent creature. Embarrassed, she looked down into her lap as the still smiling demoness made her way over to her and sat down beside her.
“I'm sorry for staring” Kagome mumbled. Feeling a cool hand cover hers, she looked up at the demoness.
“Don't worry Kagome, its all right,” even her voice sounded perfect! But once her words sank in, Kagome hesitated. Her head was exploding with questions. Wait, how does she know my name? Who is she? What does she want with me? How did I get here? She decided to voice a few.
“How do you know my name?” smiling once more at her, the demoness asked her own question:
“Do you truly want to know? Once I tell you, there is no turning back.” Kagome's curiosity got the better of her and she nodded quickly. “Alright then” the demoness sighed. “I shall tell you what you seek.” She got comfortable on the grass besides Kagome. “First I will explain the pain you are in when you were conscious. The jewel is once more connected to you, but it is only halfway completed. Now that it is a part of you, I can now tell you why it is you can see the jewel shards to begin with. Your soul is divided up into each shard fragment. This is why only you can see them. You are simply looking for pieces of your own soul.” She paused and let what she said sink in. Kagome stared at her with wide eyes. The demoness continued, “once the jewel was connected to you by physical means, it was then that you could feel the anguish of being incomplete, like the jewel is. The pain will die down soon, and when it does, your going to return to the feudal era and complete the jewel so you and it can be whole once more.” She paused and glanced over to Kagome once more. Kagome nodded her head, showing that she understood what was expected of her so far.
“But who are you? Why am I here? What is going on?” Kagome couldn't hold back her questions any more. Chuckling, the demoness motioned for Kagome to quiet down so she could finish.
“All in good time, all in good time.” Her face became serious once more. “Because you are now fused with the jewel, you need to have a demon power balance out your miko power. That's where I come in. I am the dragon that resides upon your neck. I am you.”
Gasping in surprise, Kagome just stared at her demon self. No! This cant be true! How can I be a human, and have a demon counterpart?!
Sensing her panic, the demoness waited for Kagome to calm down. “I told you this wouldn't be easy. Please Kagome, wait until I am finished.” Still unsure of what was happening, Kagome tried to calm down, but scooted a few inches away from her demon self. Shaking her head softly, the demoness continued, “As I was saying, I am you. I am here to train you some in your miko power, and when that task is completed, I am to fuse with you, making you what I am. Don't worry, because my consciousness will not be present. I will not be in the back of your mind; it will simply be your consciousness that's all. There is one who you will meet in your travels that has two souls residing in one body, but that is another tale for another day. You will still be you, just with my body. You will be a dragon, but you will also retain all your miko abilities. This is required of you because you need sufficient power to protect the jewel. Also, the jewel is composed of both demon and miko power alike, so you shall be too. Know this, you will become very powerful, but you still will be the jewel. It is you as you are it. Which brings me on another topic, why you are only partially changed. When you woke up, you saw that the markings upon your body were only partially completed. This is because you only have a portion of the jewel. The more shards that you possess, the greater amount of the markings that will be completed. This also will go for your demon qualities you will come to possess. Once I fuse with you, you will not become a full-fledged demon until the jewel is completed. Again, the more shards you gain, the more demon attributes you will acquire. Do you understand everything so far?” she looked intently into the miko's eyes.
Kagome sat there, mouth agape at everything the demoness had said. So as my quest continues, ill shall gain demon qualities, and more freak markings on my body. Great, just what I needed. Looking back at the demoness, she nodded the affirmative.
Giving her a half smile, the demoness stood up and dusted off her pants of dirt. “Well then, are you ready to begin?” she offered Kagome a hand, and helped Kagome stand.
“Well I guess that there is no other choice” Kagome stated, “I mean, I can't go back in time and prevent any of this, so ….” She broke off as the realization of everything that was going to change about her finally sunk in. a chill ran down her spine as she prepared for the intense training to come. This is just what I need. I came home for a bit of relaxation and this is what I get… wait. If she is me, how can I be teaching myself how to fight? Isn't this a paradox? Voicing her thoughts, Kagome asked the demon, “um, my lady, uh, demoness, wouldn't this be a paradox? You teaching me to fight I mean.”
Smiling at Kagome's astute observation the demoness nodded her head. “Yup, but that doesn't really matter now, does it? Just be happy that you are learning something, don't worry about it. With the jewel, all things are possible.”
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Meanwhile, back in reality, Kagome's body was still on the floor of her bedroom when Mrs. Higurashi came in to check on her. Gasping in surprise, she quickly went to fetch Souta to come and pick up his tiny elder sister and place her back into bed. She scurried out of the room through the rubble of Kagome's blasted wall, and ran down into the kitchen to find a sleeping, but still quite upset Souta in a blue bubble of some sorts. Screaming in alarm, she ran up to it and knocked on it, but was immediately thrown back from it. Souta woke up from all the ruckus and tried to calm down his hyperventilating mother. When she finally calmed down, he explained the story of his prank on his sister. The reaction he got from his mother was not what he was expecting. She got up and walked over to him, hands on her hips, and a frown on her face.
“If you were stupid enough to pull a prank on her like that, then you deserve to be stuck in there a few more hours” she condemned him. Walking away, she left a very upset Souta, opting to take a much-needed nap on the couch in the living room.

Meanwhile, upstairs Kagome's body began to take on a yellow glow. That's when the changes began….
