Chapter Six
Kagome stood in her room. She had just tucked Rin into bed. Now she was just looking around her room. *This room is similar to Sesshomaru's room.* She thought. A queen sized bed in the middle of the back wall, directly across from it was a dresser, there were also three doors. She knew the one next to the dresser was the entrance to the room. She didn't know what the other two doors were so she investigated. She discovered that the one on the left was a huge walk in closet. She admired the colorful kimonos in it.
She walked to the other door and opened it. It was a small hallway. *Now I'm curios.* She thought as she began walking through it. Eventually, there was another door. Slowly she opened it and walked into the room. She gasped slightly. *This is Sesshomaru's room!* And sure enough, there was Sesshomaru, sleeping on his bed, his fluffy white tail curled around him. A blush crept across her face. Before she knew it, she was walking slowly towards his bed.
She was sitting on her knees next to his bed, watching him sleep. Slowly, she brought a hand up to his face and began tracing his markings. *Why does he have markings like this? Inuyasha, Koga, and that toad didn't have markings...* Kagome was in deep thought. "So why does he have markings?" She asked softly.
Sesshomaru layed down on his bed. He drifted into an easy sleep, until he heard one of the doors to his room open and close softly. He sniffed the air and realized that it was just Kagome. He decided to pretend to be asleep hoping to find out what she was doing. He heard her footsteps as she walked over to his bed.
There was complete silence and then he felt her soft fingers on his face, slowly tracing his markings. He didn't stop her because he enjoyed the warm feeling that her touch was causing.Then he heard her speak softly.
"So why does he have markings?"
"Because I'm a taiyoukai." Sesshomaru opened his eyes to see her startled expression as she removed her hand from his face. He was slightly disappointed at the loss of warmth.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you up. I was just trying to figure out why I had three doors in my room." She looked down at her hands which were folded in her lap. Then she looked up at him curoisly. "What's a taiyoukai?" She asked.
"A youkai lord, or powerful youkai." He replied easily.
"Oh.... well I guess I should go now. I'm tired." Sesshomaru watched as she left through the door she had entered in and sighed softly and fell into a light sleep.
Several hours later he woke to the scent of salt and water. Then he heard someone whimpering softly. Then he reconized where it was coming from. He got up and rushed to the door leading to Kagome's room. As soon as he entered her room, he saw her twisting and turning in her sleep. *She's only having a nightmare.* He sighed in relief. Then a strange feeling crossed over him. He felt like he had to comfort her.
He walked over to her bed and sat down on it gently. Carefully he pulled her into his lap. After a few mintues she relaxed and snuggled up to him to get more comfortable. Sesshomaru tried resisting the urge to kiss her, but settled with kissing her forehead softly. He fell asleep with her leaning against his chest.
Sesshomaru woke before the crack of dawn realizing he was still in Kagome's bed. Quickly he set her down, watching her whimper from the loss of warmth. Then he walked back to his room and dressed. Then he listened around him. Sango and Miroku were just getting up. He could barely hear the steady breathing of Inuyasha and Kikyo. Rin was sound asleep also, but he suspected that she would wake soon. He then walked back to Kagome's room to wake her up for her training.
A week passed and Kagome's training went smoothly. Luckily for her she was a very fast learner. She had mastered the basics of her miko powers and the naginata. Sango had begun teaching her to use a sword, though she preferred the naginata. Today at sunset she watched it with Rin, both covered in flower jewelry. After sunset, the two walked inside to eat dinner. And after dinner, Kagome tucked Rin in and read to her. When Rin was asleep, Kagome walked back to her room.
She didn't want to go to sleep. She had been having strange nightmares recently and had no idea what they meant. But she knew if she didn't try to get some sleep, she would regret it deeply in the morning, so she climbedo out of her training clothes and into a night kimono. Then she snuggled deep in her bed, praying she didn't have the nightmare again. But her prayers went unanswered. She had the dream.

Kagome was running down dark, deserted roads-weird, crooked paths that she had never seen in her whole life. She could her strange noises behind her and knew that something was chasing her. She was too scared to turn around and look. She ran faster and fater, straining her aching, heavy legs. The farther she went, the louder the noises grew.
Then she came to a cliff. She turned around to see her pursuers. At first she could only see a blinding light. She covered her eyes with her arm, waiting for the light to dim. When she removed her arm, all she could see was a strange jewel glowing a bright milky purple color. Then she felt a stabbing pain in her left side. She looked down to see that where the pain was, it was glowing a bright blue. The pain intensified and she screamed.

Sesshomaru heard Kagome's scream. Every night since the first night he had watched her sleep and at any sign of her night mares, he would comfort her. But this time, she only struggled out of his embrace on her. He could smell her fear and pain. *Why does she feel pain?* He wondered.
Then her side began to glow a strange blue. Suddenly, something ripped from her body, blood spilling across the bed. A small jewel rolled on the bed, covered in Kagome's blood. Sesshomaru began shaking Kagome, trying to wake her. When she woke, she gasped and then hugged him tightly, crying softly. Eventually she pulled away, tears slowing down. She hiccuped then looked at the jewel that came from her body. She grabbed it and held it in her hand.
"What is it?" Sesshomaru asked softly.
"I...I'm not sure...but...I think its the Shikon No Tama....." She said asshe continued looking at it. Then she turned her blue gaze to Sesshomaru. "Thank you." She said and fell back asleep. Her hand clutched the Shikon Jewel while she slept.
Sesshomaru layed her down on the bed and left to retrieve some bandages. When he returned, he lifted her shirt up enough to see her wound but was shocked. The wound had already healed up and left a star shaped scar instead. *Well at least there is no wound now.* He returned to his room and set the unused supplies on a table nearby. Then he climbed in his bed and fell asleep.
Kagome found Kikyo in the gardens, meditating. She walked up to her and sat down in front of her. Patiently she waited for Kikyo to know she was there. After a few minutes, Kikyo stopped meditating and opened her eyes. "Kagome? What do you want?" She asked.
"Well," Kagome rummaged through a pocket in her training outfit. Then she pulled out the jewel, which was tied to a chain. "Last night I had a strange dream. When I woke, this jewel was ripped from my side and layed on the bed next to me. I'm not sure, but I believe that this is the Shikon No Tama."
Kikyo took the jewel from Kagome's hand and looked over for a few minutes. "I believe you are right. This must be the Shikon Jewel. I can feel mystical powers coming from it."
"Yeah," Kagome agreed. "So can I."
"Well, since it came from your body, then you must be its protector. You mustn't let evil get a hold of it. You remember the stories of how if anyone evil possesses it, they can multiply their powers by at least a hundred times and be invincible."
"Yes. I remember." Kagome retrieved the jewel and hung it around her neck. *Another duty. On the island back home, I could be as care free as I wanted. But now I have to train and protect this jewel. I guess my child hood days are over and I have to grow up. But...just a little.* Kagome smiled. Then he thoughts turned. To a certain youkai. *I'm starting to have...stronge feelings toward him.....he's been so nice to me....trying to comfort me last night....I think..I'm in love with...Sesshomaru...*
Kagome continued walking around outside until she heard someone shouting. She reconized the first voice as Sesshomaru and the second one sounded familiar, but she couldn't remember who it belonged to. As she grew closer she could make out what they were saying.
"Get out of here. I don't want you to return. Ever!" Sesshomaru ordered.
"Why? What have I done to piss you off, Lord Sesshomaru?" A cold and evil voice questioned. Then Kagome remembered who it was. That Naraku guy. She shuddered.
Sesshomaru noticed Kagome's presence and found her walking slowly towards him. He made a motion for her to come and she nodded and walked to his side. She looked up at him questioningly.
"I see you've made good use of the slaves, Lord Sesshomaru." Naraku smiled evily. Kagome narrowed her eyes at Naraku, her anger starting to build up some.
"She is not a slave. And I suggest that if you don't want to be purified, then you'd better leave." Sesshomaru said.
"Why? Is she a miko of some sort?" Naraku pretended to look shocked, even though he didn't care.
"Yeah, I am! You stupid hanyou!" Kagome yelled at him.
"Little bitch!"
"Naraku! I told you to get off my lands. Now!"
"I'll be back. You can count on it." Naraku said. As he was turning he noticed something shining hanging around Kagome's neck. Immediately he knew what is was. *I will be back. Then I'll kill the little bitch and take the Shikon No Tama!*
Sesshomaru looked down at Kagome. She turned to look at him. "Why was he here?" She asked, her deep blue eyes full of hate, anger, relief, and then curiosity.
"He was trying to sell more slaves. I refused. Then I told him to leave and that's when you arrived." Sesshomaru was fighting himself from taking her and was losing.
"Oh." Was all she said. Then she realized how close she was standing to Sesshomaru and blushed lightly. She was about to back away, when Sesshomaru's arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her to him.
