Chapter Eight
Kagome woke up in a cold room. She tried to sit up, but found that she was chained down by her wrists. She looked around the room as good as she could, and could only see dark shadows. She wondered where she was. Then she wondered who kidnapped her. She felt warmth coming from her chest and looked down to see the Shikon was glowing. It lit the dark areas around her enough that she could she was on a bed. A very uncomfortable bed.
Then she heard footsteps coming closer and closer. Then a door opened, light spreading through out the room. She realized she was in some kind of dungeon. Then she saw who opened the door, and gasped. "Naraku! Why did you take me?!" Kagome yelled, trying to get free from her binds. Naraku walked over to her smiling menancinly. He put his palm against her cheek and Kagome turned away best she could to avoid the cold skin.
"Now, little miko, you whouldn't try to break free. You'll only hurt yourself." He said, laughing a little.
"I don't care about that! Answer my question!" Kagome demanded. Naraku frowned and smacked her across the face. Kagome could taste blood in her mouth. She could tell that her cheek would be sporting a nice big bruise later.
"I think I'll take this jewel from you. You couldn't possibly have a use for it." Naraku reached for the glowing jewel around Kagome's neck. As soon as he touched it, it glowed brighter, and shocked him. He removed his hand immediately. "I see. It is too pure. It needs to be corrupted before I am able to touch it." He was frowning. *How am I going to do this?* He thought as he left the room.
Kagome sighed sadly and looked up at the dark ceiling. *How will I get out of here? Or will....will Sesshomaru save me? If-if that kiss meant anything....he will save me. Right?* Kagome questioned herself, praying he would.
Sesshomaru paced his caslte. It had been raining all day and last night. If it didn't stop soon, there would be absolutely no way for him to track Kagome. He kicked an unsuspecting chair across the room and continued walking around.
Inuyasha had never seen his older brother this way before. He smiled. *It's about time that some one was able to get into his heart.* He thought. Inuyasha turned and left the room, searching for Kikyo. He found her, trying to comfort a sad Rin. The little girl was crying into her chest. Kikyo patted her hair softly, comforting her, saying that Kagome would be fine. Eventually the tired child fell asleep.
"I hope Kagome is okay." Kikyo sighed, setting Rin down on her bed. She walked with Inuyasha down to the library.
"I have a feeling, that if whoever kidnapped her, will deeply regret it once Sesshomaru is through with him." Inuyasha comforted. "I really think he has feelings for your twin."
"Yes. I think that too. You can see it in their eyes." Kikyo admitted. Suddenly the door flung open. Sango and Miroku stormed in, sopping wet.
"We heard." Sango said, panting slightly out of breath.
"We came as soon as possible to lend any help we can." Miroku informed.
"Is there any trace of her?" Sango asked hopefully.
Inuyasha and Kikyo both hung their heads. "Since yesterday, it has been raining non stop. inu youkai have a good sense of smell, but it's no use when it's raining." Inuyasha said sadly.
"Kagome is strong. She should be able to handle herself." Miroku said.
"I hope." Everyone else replied. Inuyasha sniffed the air.
"The rain is slowing. Sesshomaru has prob-" Inuyasha stopped. The door flung open.
"Inuyasha, let's go." Sesshomaru said, entering the room Inuyasha nodded.
Sango and Miroku stood up. "We're coming too." Sesshomaru and Inuyasha nodded and they all left, Kikyo staying to watch over Rin.
had passed and Kagome continued staring up at the ceiling. She wondered if it was day or night. Suddenly the door opened and a small figure entered, carrying a candle. It set the candle down near Kagome and lit a torch. The room was engulfed in light. Kagome could see who had entered the room.
It was a young woman with brownish black hair pulled into a high pony tail. In her hair were two feathers. She had a pinkish color eyes and wore some makeup. She held a fan in one hand. Then she spoke. "Shh. My name is Kagura. I want to help you escape."
"Why would you help me?" Kagome asked.
"You see, I'm an incarnate of Naraku. I'm born from him. And I can't stand it. He holds my heart in his hands and can kill me at anytime he desires. In order for me to be free, he has to die. And for that to happen, he can't have what he wants, and what he wants is that jewel around your neck. If he gets ahold of it, he will become so much stronger and no one will be able to stop him. I need to get you out of here."
"How?" Kagome was completely interested in getting out. She looked into the woman's eyes and knew she wasn't lying. Kagura pulled out a key and unlached the chains on Kagome's wrists.
"Naraku will not be back for hours to come. Let's get you some clothes and weapons. Then I'll give you directions on how to get away." Kagura pulled Kagome's hand and led her to a small room. There were hundreds of weapons on the walls. In the middle of it there was a table with some kind of shiny clothes. Kagura grabbed them and handed them to Kagome. "Put these on quickly."
Kagome did so and found that the dress was a very silky material. The color was a silverish blue and it laced up on the sides from under her arms to a little past her hips. There were no sleeves, but thin straps. It revealed much cleavage which left Kagome slightly uncomfortable. The ends of the dress flowed around her ankles.
"Sorry. Its the only thing we have." Kagura apologized. "What's your best weapon?"
"Um...the bow and.....naginata." Kagome said, pointing them out. Kagura handed Kagome a bow, quiver filled with arrows, and a blue handled naginata. Kagome took them and slung the quiver and bow over her back. She held the naginata in her hands tightly.
"Now, for the instructions."
"Can you get anything?" Inuyasha yelled.
Sesshomaru sniffed the air. It was very slight, but he could pick up a trace of Kagome. He took off in the direction of her scent. Inuyasha. Sango, Miroku, and the cat youkai Kirara followed. After of two hours of heavy traveling they reached an abandoned village.
A woman stepped out of the middle of the caslte. She held a fan in her right hand. "What business do you have here?" She asked.
"Where is Naraku?!" Inuyasha yelled.
"I'm sorry. He's out for the moment. Retrieving something that has....runaway. But he will return soon."
"You smell of Naraku. You must be some kind of incarnate. No matter. Tell me where Kagome is and your death shall be quick and painless." Sesshomaru stated.
The woman's eye widened. "You're here to save the miko? You had better hurry!"
"What do you mean? Explain." Sesshomaru demanded.
"I am Kagura. When Naraku left a day ago, I snuck into Kagome's cell. I unchained her, gave her fresh clothes and weapons. I told her to go to Mount Fujimora. It is protected by some sort of barrier. I am for sure that she will be able to pass it. The only problem though, is getting there."
"What do you mean?" Sesshomaru asked.
"About two hours after she left, Naraku returned. I lied to him, saying that she had escaped. He immediately went on search for her. She has to keep going in order to be safe."
"You said Mount Fujimora? That's north." Miroku commented.
"Lord Sesshomaru, go ahead and rescue her. We will catch up. If something happens, and we slow you down.... Just go!" Sango said, tears forming in her brown eyes. Sesshomaru nodded and left for north. He knew that the wind witch was not lying. She didn't smell of deciet when she told the story. But, he couldn't pick up any trace of Kagome. *The only thing I can think of, is that she is capable of hiding her scent.*
