Kagome woke up for what seemed like the tenth time today. This time everyone was around her. “Um hi.” She sat up very slowly and everyone backed away, making the circle around her larger. “I take it we're in Detroit now.”

 

“Yeah,” Inuyasha said. “Why do you keep passin' out like that? You're really startin' to creep me out.”

 

“I know how we kill Naraku.” It was an answer.

 

“What?” Inuyasha asked dumbly.

 

“Do I have to repeat everything for you guys? I said `I know how we kill Naraku'.”

 

“Well tell us!”

 

“We don't have Miroku or Sango. We can't do it without them.”

 

“Yes we can. It will be very hard, but we can pull it off.”

 

“Do you have the Tenseiga? I don't wanna die…”

 

“You will not die. Inuyasha will make sure of that,” Sesshomaru reassured.

 

Kagome shot a look at him. “He better.”

 

“Don't worry, Kagome. I will.”

 

“How do we do it?” Sota asked.

 

“You don't, Sota, we do.”

 

“Why can't I? You guys don't have Sango or Miroku to help… I could be an extra hand.”

 

“No you won't! Mom would kill me… oh shit!”

 

“What?” Sota knew she very rarely cussed when she was talking about their mom.

 

“Have you called Mom?”

 

“No…”

 

“Didn't think so. Call her on my cell. Don't tell her about Naraku, don't tell her about the past stuff either.”

 

“OK.” Sota dialed his phone number.

 

“Hello?” Someone answered the phone. It wasn't Mom and it wasn't Gramps.

 

“Who is this?” Sota asked.

 

“Masakazu. Who is this?” the man asked.

 

“Sota. Is my mom there?”

 

“I'm sorry, who is your mom?” Masakazu asked.

 

“Etsu Higurashi.”

 

“Sorry, but there is no one by the name of Etsu here.”

 

“What do you—” Sota was cut short when the phone clicked off.

 

“What is it?” Kagome looked at her brother.

 

“I think I got the wrong number.”

 

“Give me the phone.” Sota handed her the phone. She hit the redial button.

 

“Hello?” The same man answered the phone.

 

“Is this the Higurashi Shrine?” Kagome sounded like she had business to do there.

 

“Why yes it is.”

 

“Is the shrine manager there at this time?” she asked.

 

“Not at this time. Call back in a few hours and she should be here.”

 

“Thank you. May I ask your name?”

 

“Masakazu.”

 

“Thanks a mil bye!” Kagome clicked the phone off before he said anything else.

 

“Was it a wrong number?” Sota looked at his sister.

 

“No. Mom isn't there though. Someone named Masakazu answered and said she wasn't in right now. He didn't tell me where she is though.” Kagome got a brilliant plan. “Inuyasha, will you call and ask for Etsu Higurashi Shrine Manager? Please?”

 

“Sure.”

 

Kagome pressed the redial button again and handed the phone to Inuyasha.

 

“Hello?” This time a woman answered the phone.

 

“Hi is Etsu Higurashi Shrine Manager there right now?” he asked.

 

“What is your business with the shrine?” the woman asked.

 

Inuyasha's face went blank. “My wife has business there and she asked me to call and ask for the shrine manager and I'm not sure what she had to do there.”

 

“Right now we don't have any openings. I can work her in tomorrow at seven.”

 

“She just needs to talk to Etsu.”

 

“Well she is in luck because Etsu just walked in. Here.”

 

“Hello and welcome to Higurashi Shrine.”

 

“Uh… just a sec. Here Kagome.”

 

“Etsu?”

 

“Kagome!”

 

“Yeah it's me. Hey who are all these people at the shrine? First I talked to Masakazu then Inuyasha talked to some woman. She was loud too! I could here her through the phone! Oh yeah and Inuyasha don't speak Japanese so don't talk to him in Japanese… I heard you too…”

 

“Masakazu and Machi are helping hands. I hired them yesterday and they have done a great job so far. Machi told me that Inuyasha called you his `wife'. Why?”

 

“He couldn't get through to you. First Sota called and Masakazu answered and he lied to Sota and said he didn't know you, then I called and the same guy said you weren't in. Inuyasha had to make up a totally different story. He probably didn't know that Masakazu was a guy name,” Kagome explained in Japanese. Sota understood everything and Sesshomaru understood most of it.

 

“Masakazu shouldn't have lied. Why haven't you called?” It seemed like Etsu just remembered it. Something was wrong.

 

“Mom? Are you OK?”

 

“Of course Kogame— I mean Kagome.”

 

Kagome clicked off the phone. She looked worried. “Something's wrong,” Kagome mumbled. Only Sota heard her.

 

“What is?”

 

“Something happened to Mom.”

 

Still only Sota heard her. “But why?” he yelled.

 

“I don't know, Sota!” she yelled louder. “I don't know who it was that I was talking to, but I know it wasn't Mom. She called me `Kogame'. Mom would never do that. You know she wouldn't. Whoever it was— if they have the right connections— could have traced the call. We have to get out of here.” Kagome was barely speaking loud enough for everyone to hear. She was very sad.

 

“Good idea,” Sesshomaru agreed. “We can be out of Detroit in twelve minutes.”

 

“Is that by going three times the speed limit?” Inuyasha asked sarcastically.

 

“Kagome leave your phone here. Everyone get out of the car and follow me.” Sesshomaru got out of the car and everyone followed him. He entered a building that looked long abandoned.

 

In the center of the building was a jet. “Does it come with a pilot?” Inuyasha asked.

 

“Who needs a pilot when you have a demon that controls wind?” It had to be Kagura.

 

Inuyasha turned around to see the woman. She was wearing a long dark red and pink skirt and a matching tee shirt. (A/N: She doesn't wear the same thing in this fic as she does in the show.) Her hair was pulled into a tight bun with tendrils of hair falling in the back. She had a feather in her hair that kept the bun tight. The only thing that wasn't normal about her, Kagome noticed, was her eyes. Instead of a normal color like green, blue, brown or something like that, her eyes were magenta.

 

“Kagura is the name. I'm on your side. Although I know that Inuyasha doesn't trust me, Kagome knows that I am on your side. You learn to live with me, Inuyasha, if that makes you feel better about working with a demon.”

 

“It doesn't. You tried to kidnap Kagome. Why would you think she trusts you?”

 

“Did you not listen to her? She told you I was on your side.”

 

“I heard her. I still don't trust you though.”

 

Kagome walked up behind Inuyasha and put her hand on his shoulder. “Inuyasha, it's OK. She's OK.”

 

Kagura smiled. “Smart girl. She knows what she's talkin' about. You have a really good girl there Inuyasha. Don't lose her.”

 

“Yeah I think I know that!”

 

Kagura smiled again. “And for the first time he admits it! You know in your former life it took you close to three years to admit that?” Inuyasha blushed. Sesshomaru almost laughed at his brother's embarrassment. “Sesshomaru, you can laugh. You're pretty good at it too if you ask me.”

 

“But I—”

 

“Don't laugh. We know. But you should. It makes you feel better. I went close to one hundred and fifty years without a single laugh, and when I finally laughed I felt a lot better. Oh right! We need to get out if here. C'mon. We can take my feather.” She pulled out a feather and it turned into a giant one. When she saw all the looks she was getting she had to reassure them. “It's safe. How do you think I followed you guys?”

 

“Cool! I never thought that comin' to America with Kagome would be so cool! This is awesome!” Sota was very excited.

 

“Sota you didn't need to come with her. Did she invite you?” Kagura asked.

 

“Botan said I could take him and he would pay the way… why?”

 

“Sota is in danger,” Kagura informed Kagome like it didn't faze her one little bit.

 

“How do you know?”

 

“Botan— the real Botan— was kidnapped by Naraku and then Naraku took his form all to get you to come over to America.”

 

“That means Naraku invited him!” Kagome said as it dawned on her. “He is going to kidnap Sota isn't?”

 

“I don't know. Naraku never told me that Sota would be used against you in this battle.”

 

Kagome had so many questions storming though her mind: Why would he use Sota against me? How was he reborn a demon and Sesshomaru and Inuyasha not? How did he remember all this before us?

 

“I bet he would use Sota against you because he knows ho much you love him…” Kagura seemed to know the question that bugged her the most. But when that one was answered an even more painful thought entered Kagome's mind.

 

“What would he do to Sota once he got him?”

 

“Hard to say. Naraku is ruthless. Naraku has no conscience what so ever. He would kill a seven-year-old.”

 

“Rin…” Sesshomaru mumbled.

 

“So that's her name…” Kagura looked at Sesshomaru. “We'll kill him before he gets to her. I promise.”

 

Kagura was like a demon with morals. She seemed a little rough and hard when it came to showing emotion, but she did have them.

 

Kagome was even sadder now. Her mom was missing, which meant that her grandpa was missing as well, her brother was in danger, and her life, as well as the life's of her new found friends, was in danger. Who knew life was so exciting and thrilling?
