InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Amidst the Moonlight ❯ Chapter 4: Farewell ( Chapter 4 )
Chapter 4
The time had come from her to depart from her family. Tears streamed down her face as she embraced her mother and sobbed softly into her shoulder. “I’m gonna miss you honey,”he mother mumbled into her shoulder. “Mom, I don’t want to go,” Kagome cried. “Honey it is your destiny. You must fulfill it, I’m sorry. But every things going to be alright. Plus Lord Inuyasha is a fine fellow.” ‘Oh mom. You don’t know how wrong you are.’ Kagome pulled away from her mother and gave a soft smile.
“I love you mom.”
“I love you too Kagome and never forget that.”
Inuyasha and the others stood waiting as Kagome gave her final goodbye to her family. Inuyasha was becoming annoyed with all these unnecessary shows of emotions and I felt like grabbing Kagome by her arm and dragging her away from this place, but he knew it would be dishonorable and he would never hear the end of it from Sesshomaru.
Kagome looked up as her father and Kikyou walked from the castle to bid her farewell as well. Lord Higurashi walked up to her and wrapped her arms around her shoulders in an affectionate hug. “I love you Kagome, and I think you’re going to make a fine Lady of the Western Lands when its your time to rule.” Kagome nodded against her fathers shoulder then pulled away and turned to her sister as she came to stand next to her father. “Kagome,” she said and wrapped her arms around Kagome. Kagome eagerly embraced her sister back. “Don’t forget that even though I didn’t treat you so, you’re still my sister and I love you with all my heart.” Kagome gave a half laugh half sob as she tightened her arms and pulled away gazing into her sisters eyes. “I love you too Kikyou.”
Kikyou looked over Kagome’s shoulder to Inuyasha who glared hatefully at her, then she looked away and back to her sister. “Kagome, promise me one thing. Promise me...that you will not allow him to hurt you. Don’t let him break your spirit.” Kagome looked into her sisters eyes then over her shoulder to Inuyasha. He was no longer looking their way, but gazing out over the court yard. “I won’t. He can abuse my body and mind all he wants, but I will not let him break my spirit,” she said without looking at Kikyou.
Without another glance to her parents, Kagome made her way towards where the dog demons and her friends waited. “I’m ready,” she said flatly. Inuyasha nodded once then turned and started strolling towards the gates that led to the outside forests of the kingdom. As she walked past Sango, Sango wrapped an arm around her shoulders and walked with her out the gates and away from the kingdom forever.

They had been walking for a couple of hours when Sesshomaru announced that they would stop to take a break. “Pathetic humans,” Inuyasha mumbled. Then to Kagome’s surprise he lept from the ground and into a nearby tree. Sesshomaru glared coldly at his brother before leaving the group to scout for food. Sango, Miroku, Kagome, and Rin took a seat on a soft plush of grass to soothe their aching leg muscles. “How long before we reach the western lands?” Sango asked. “Maybe two or three days walk. That’s why we have all this equipment with us so we can camp out.” Kagome looked over to the sacks that Inuyasha and Miroku had been carrying and noticed they were indeed for camping.
