"Would you two quit bickering? We need see what's in that well. InuYasha, you need to jump in!" the calm male's voice sounded mildly frustrated.
"Why me?!" the young male's voice complained,
"Because you can get out the easiest."
"Oh sure I can. In the morning! When I'm back to normal!"
"Just do it!"
"Fine!" The young male gave up, I guess. I knew he was approaching the well. I slid into the farthest corner and held the rock, ready to hit whatever appeared at the opening. A boy on his late teens appeared. He had black hair and caucasian skin. I threw the rock with no hesitation. It seemed to hit since he fell backwards and didn't get back up.
"What was that?" said the female.
"I don't know," said the calm male.
"See Miroku! I told you they weren't rats!" The child sounded excited.
There was a long breath let out. Then, the calm male said, "I'll get whatever's down there since, apparently, InuYasha is too scared." I picked up another rock. This time, a man with short black hair and caucasian skin appeared. I threw the rock, but I missed. The man jumped in and landed in front of me. I tried to breathe as softly as possible as he stood there, motionless. His eyes were most likely adjusting to the darkness. I tried to move to the farthest corner from him, but I made a mistake in doing this. He heard and saw me. I gasped as he grabbed my wrist. He jumped up and held onto the edge of the well. I tried to wriggle out of his hand, but I couldn't. Some people pulled him up as I mentally begged him to put me down. Then, once he was up, he used both hands to pull me up. Once up, I sat on the ground. I didn't do anything, but I was still exhausted.
There were five people up there. I could see the details of everyone because there was a small fire going, indicating that they had been camping there overnight. The man who helped me up had his hair short, but long enough be put into a small ponytail. He wore dark purple robes and had a long gold colored staff in his hand, but I was not sure if it was really made of gold. He also had the palm of his hand covered with a cloth which was the same color as his robes and light blue prayer beads wrapped around half his forearm. I was sure he was a monk.
The woman had long, black hair and a long, pink and green dress. She had a large boomerang on her back.
By the woman's feet was a cat-like creature. It had red eyes, two tails, and tan and black fur.
There was a little child which was part fox. It had a puffy tail and ears. Its hair was in a pony tail larger than the man's. It had a light blue shirt with white spots and dark blue pants. He also had a tan vest on. I guessed it was a boy. The man and woman wore sandals, but the fox-boy was bare-footed.
I looked at the unconscious teen. "Will he be alright?"
"Who? InuYasha?" I nodded. Was that his name? "Yes, he'll be fine. It's hard to keep him down." He paused. "I'm Miroku." He held out his hand. I hesitated before I shook it. "This is Sango, Kilala, Shippo," he pointed to the woman, cat-like creature, and then the fox-boy, "and Inuyasha." He pointed at the unconcious teen. He wore red clothes and had black hair. Uncle Sota had told me about him, but this wasn't how I imagined him. I nodded. I willed myself to remember they're names even though I usually can't.
InuYasha stirred a bit. I moved towards him cautiously. Miroku put his hand on my shoulder. He shook his head. "I wouldn't suggest that." I looked at him curiously. "He's probably going to ge angry with you." I backed up behind everyone so he hopefully wouldn't notice me.
InuYasha opened his eyes and sat up, holding his head. "Wha-what happened?"
"Shippo was playing with some rocks and accidentally hit you with one" Miroku said with no guilt in his voice.
"Hey!" yelled Shippo, "That's not fair! Why do I have to be the scapegoat?!"
"SHIPPO!" InuYasha yelled. He ran up and began hitting Shippo as hard as he could on his head with his fist.
Shippo sat there, trying to take it. This didn't seem to surprise anyone, but I couldn't stand it any longer. "Wait," I said as loudly as my courage would let me, "I...threw the stone."
"You threw it?" InuYasha said, surpised. I braced myself. "Whatever."
"Huh?"
"I don't care, okay?"
"Umm...okay."
He started to walk off. Then he turned around. "Where'd you get those clothes?"
"My clothes?"
"Yeah, your clothes."
"They're hand-me-downs!"
"From who?"
My mom, I said mentally. "Why do you need to know?"
"Because I asked!"
"Really? Well, InuYasha, the world doesn't revolve around you."
"Please tell me." He gritted his teeth. I shuddered. I don't know why I do that when people grit they're teeth or rub silverware together in a strange way. "I'm not telling you anything!"
"Fine." He started to walk away, but he stopped again. "Listen, we're going to a nearby village. If you want you can come with."
"Thank you, InuYasha," I whispered. I ran to catch up with the others.
Most of the walk was completely silent, but Sango broke the silence. "What's your name anyway?"
"M-mine?" I guessed they were all wondering the same thing since they looked at me with anticipation. "I...I am Etsuko (for those of you wondering, it means joyful child)."
"Why me?!" the young male's voice complained,
