"Well, we'd better hurry; it's almost midnight," commented InuYasha. We walked faster toward what was supposed to be the village.
I heard a soft twang and something cutting through the air. I looked in the direction of the noise. An arrow was zooming toward InuYasha. "InuYasha, look out!" I screamed out.
He turned around to defend himself, but he was not able to in time. It went right through him, and he fell backwards. Sango caught him before he fell to the ground. I looked more carefully towards where the arrow came from. I faintly recognized a woman standing on a ledge. She was in a yellow sundress, which was blowing in the wind. She had long, black hair.
InuYasha looked up and he gasped, "No, Kagome."
I realized who it was. "Mom!" She ran into the woods and I struggled to follow her.
"Wait! stop!" Sango yelled, but she couldn't get up since she was holding InuYasha. Miroku ran after me instead.
I ran faster than I ever realized I could. The ground was uneven and several times I almost tripped. My mom ran faster than me, but I continued persuing her. "Mom! Wait! Come back! Please!"
Miroku was a ways behind me. I lost him, not that I was trying to. My mom turned around; her bow with an arrow fitted on it pointing at me. "Mom? What are you doing?"
I heard someone coming. I was pushed out of the way as an arrow flew past my head. It was InuYasha.
"Get...off...me!" I yelled.
"No!"
"You're gonna make me lose the only chance that I'll ever have at meeting my mom!" I screamed. Shippo, Miroku, and Sango came running. "Are you okay?" Sango asked concerned.
"Once InuYasha gets off me!" He got off me. "Great!" I scolded InuYasha angrily, "My mom disappeared! I lost her!"
"If I didn't push you out of the way, you would have been killed! Be thankful!"
"Go away!" I screamed as I pushed him away from me. I ran into the woods. "Mom? Mom?! Mom!" I called, crying. I wandered aimlessly in the woods. They left me be.
"Tell me, child. Who are you looking for?" asked a low voice.
"W-where are you?"
"Behind the bushes. I prefer the shade." I stepped into the bushes.
There was a man covered in wolf's skin sitting cross-legged on the ground.
"Who are you?"
"I am Naraku..."
"I've heard of you. You had Kikyo and InuYasha betray each other and had Sango's brother kill his family."
"I am...misunderstood. People just like to blame things on me." He gave a small smile that I could barely see. Maybe he was right. I kneeled down in front of him. "Who are you looking for?" he repeated.
"M-my mom."
"Is her name Kagome?"
"Yes."
"I'll help you under one condition."
"What?"
"You must do as I tell you and I will give you your mother and show you the way home."
"What do you want me to do?" I was willing to do anything in order to have my mom. He motioned for me to lean near him. "You have to..." My eyes opened wide.
