Chapter 2: One Last Chance

Inuyasha awoke once more to the cold chill of the stale air. He was scared, terrified. He didn't understand why any of this was happening. There was that same cold metal biting into his wrists again, but this time it was much tighter, so tight that it was painful, and he felt it too around his ankles. But that wasn't what surprised him the most about the situation. He had been stripped of his clothes, and something was bound around his eyes, preventing him from seeing. He tried to move slightly, but this time the chains were much tighter, and he could hardly move at all.

The lack of water was beginning to make his throat burn like fire, and he was tempted to bite his lip and drink his own blood. But he had grown tired of tasting blood, so he sat there silent and unmoving, contemplating his situation.

He decided he might as well try breaking this bonds like he had done the ones before. He jerked his right arm suddenly, but then screamed in pain as he felt something within the shackle piece his skin. He could feel the blood dripping down his arm, and the pain throbbed viciously in his fore arm.

The air in the room turned from cold to freezing as he heard that familiar laugh.

“You are stubborn as always Inuyasha,” the man sighed, “So I have decided to give you some… lets call it incentive, to calm your nerves.” He could hear the horrible grin in the man's voice. “Those shackles react to any struggling against them, and depending on how hard you struggle, the more blades it projects into your arm.” He heard the man walking closer to him, dread filled him with every step. The footsteps ended right in front of Inuyasha. The man whispered maliciously in his ear, “I could kill you so easily now Inuyasha, but that would not be a satisfying end for you. You have interfered with my plans far too many times to be worthy of a quick painless death. But I do know that you have a high tolerance for physical pain, so where would be the fun in that? I have something much more… interesting in mind for your torture.” Inuyasha was shaking slightly, but he knew he couldn't do anything against these bonds.

The man then whispered a single word, “Kagome…”

There she was, that same girl from before. Kagome. That was her name. It all seemed so clear now to him. He loved her. He knew that her safety was more valuable to him than his own life.

“Don't you dare touch her,” Inuyasha growled menacingly.

“I don't believe you are in much of a position to be making threats Inuyasha,” he crackled madly.

“You bastard! I swear I will kill you before you can lay a finger on her!”

“Is that so? Here I am Inuyasha. I give you an open opportunity to kill me.”

Inuyasha flailed his right arm, and he felt the familiar sharp pain. He cringed slightly, then tried with his left arm. Blood was pouring freely from both of his wrists. He gritted his teeth. He wasn't going to give up that easily. Not on Kagome.

The man was chuckling softly. “You are so pathetic Inuyasha. How could anyone, even a human girl, love someone as weak as you? Kagome hates you, because she thinks you are dead. She hates you for dying while claiming to protect her. You are nothing but a waste of life.”

Inuyasha's tears were filling the cloth bound around his eyes, but it wasn't because of the pain in his wrists. The pain he was feeling was much deeper, and it came from his heart. What if this man was right?

“But even I would not be foolish enough to kill you when I still have a use for you.” Inuyasha felt the man's hand grip his chin roughly, “I can tell from these tears that you really do love that human girl. And even I have some compassion Inuyasha.” His claws drug against Inuyasha's face, deep enough to draw blood in three slashes across his face.

“I'll give you one last chance to save the life of not only you, but that pitiful human girl.”

Inuyasha did not like the tone of this man's voice. He could not be trusted.
