Chapter 2: Truce
“Here is fine” Kagome said.
They had seen Sesshoumaru's castle from the air. They descended into a clearing nearby.
“Are you sure you don't want us to wait for you?” asked Sango worriedly, “What if he won't take you in?”
“I have a good feeling he will…I'll be fine” smiled Kagome.
“If you're sure…” Sango said grudgingly, “We'll come check on you in a few days.”
“Ok, thanks, Sango”
Kirara lifted off the ground and flew off. Kagome started through the woods toward the castle. Sesshoumaru leisurely walked down the stairs as she approached.
“Well, well, miko…what brings you here?” he said coolly, “Where is my dear brother?”
“I have left him…I thought I might be allowed to stay here.”
“Interesting…tell me more”
Kagome gave Sesshoumaru a quick account of why she had left Inuyasha and the events leading her to him.
“I see…he did not come for you when you were with the wolf?”
“No, he did not”
“So, you come here for my protection and for his jealousy?”
“I come for whatever assistance you can give me”
Sesshoumaru pondered this for a moment, “Very well, miko…I will allow you to stay because I do love to see my brother in angst…I shall even assist you in escalating his jealousy if I can.”
“Thank you, my Lord” Kagome smiled.
She followed him inside the castle. He accompanied her on a tour, given by Rin, who had bounced down the stairs when Kagome entered.
“This is the kitchen!” Rin beamed.
“Miko, can you cook?” Sesshoumaru asked in a neutral tone, “Rin would benefit from a few good meals.”
“Yes, I would have to go back home for some supplies, though” Kagome replied.
“I have heard that you are not from this time…that you travel through the bone eater's well in Inuyasha's forest…is this true?”
“Yes, it is”
“Perfect…since Inuyasha is either too proud or too cowardly to come for you, we will have to indirectly go to him.”
Kagome grinned evilly, “I see what you're saying”
Over dinner, Kagome asked Sesshoumaru many questions. Sesshoumaru, surprisingly, gave her answers. He told her all about his father, the death of his mother, and his father falling in love with a human woman.
“Is that why you hate Inuyasha?” she asked cautiously.
“No, I do not hate him” Sesshoumaru said as he got up, “I merely wanted him to think that.”
Sesshoumaru offered Kagome his arm and showed her to her room.
“Sleep well, miko…we leave tomorrow morning.”
Kagome could hardly sleep. Sesshoumaru had given her a wealth of very fascinating information for her to ponder over. She would also, probably, be seeing Inuyasha tomorrow. It had been almost a week. She really wanted to see him, but she knew that she couldn't just go running back to him or nothing would change. Tomorrow was going to be a rough day.
Sesshoumaru awoke her the next morning, “Come down and have breakfast…we are leaving shortly.”
She inhaled some breakfast before going outside where Sesshoumaru waited with Aun, saddled and ready to go. He helped her onto the dragon before hopping on behind her. Kagome waved back at Rin as they flew off.
“Are you ready, miko?”
“Do you think he'll come?”
“If he smells me, he will come.”
Butterflies danced in Kagome's stomach. She tried hard to calm herself. She tried rehearsing in her head what she would say to him. She was more afraid, though, that he wouldn't come. Aun began to descend into the forest and landed near the well. Inuyasha was already there, arms crossed inside the sleeves of his haori. He stood directly in front of the well.
“Why are you here?” Inuyasha growled at Sesshoumaru.
“I came to escort Kagome to the well, so she could get supplies…what do you want Inuyasha?”
“I want to talk to Kagome…alone”
Sesshoumaru narrowed his glare, but Kagome slid off Aun and put a hand on his arm, “It's ok…I'll call if I need you, Sessh.”
She followed Inuyasha as he stomped off toward Goshinboku. He stopped in front of the tree and spun around to face her.
“What the hell are you doing with him?” he snarled.
“What do you want?” she retorted.
“I wanna know why the hell you left…first to Kouga, which was bad enough, but, then, my brother?”
“Both treat me a lot better than you do!”
“Well, I'm sorry I can't put you up in a castle!”
“That has nothing to do with it…I left because you keep running off to Kikyo and because you won't admit that you love me! Why do you hate him so much anyway?”
“That bastard never did anything for me, why should I like him?”
“That's where you're wrong!”
“What the hell does that mean?”
“Sesshoumaru has always taken care of you…he's only ever wanted you to be strong!”
“Then why didn't he take me in when mother died?”
“He said it was not your destiny…you had to learn on your own”
“Keh!”
“He at least didn't let you starve”
“No, the servants from the castle left me food in the woods”
“Whose castle did you think they were sent from?” Kagome asked, raising an eyebrow.
Inuyasha's eyes widened as the realization hit him, “He told you all this?”
“Yes”
“Why are you telling me?”
“Because I love you and you needed to know”
“Y…you do?”
“Damn it, baka…don't you know that already?”
“You've never said it!”
“You were never listening!”
“Keh!” Inuyasha said as he walked back towards Sesshoumaru, “Is it true?”
“Indeed”
“You took care of me? Why?”
“It was father's wish…you were always meant to be strong…you have the power of the youkai and the will of humans…nothing is more powerful.” Sesshoumaru stuck out his right hand, “Let us join together…brother”
Inuyasha smirked, but shook his hand. Kagome began to climb onto Aun's back.
“Oi, woman!” Inuyasha yelled, “Where the hell are you going?”
“I told you I wasn't coming back until you admitted you loved me”
“Damn it, woman…I love you more than anything else…get over here!”
Kagome ran and wrapped her arms around his neck. He planted a kiss firmly on her lips that immediately convinced her of his love. He broke the kiss and held her tight.
“So, Sesshoumaru…you ready to go kick Naraku's ass?”
“We must go and get Rin and Jaken…prepare your friends” Sesshoumaru replied.
