Chapter 5: When a strong heart collapses… - part 2

"Vengeance and Revenge are very strong feelings, they make you numb to everything else around you and the pain you feel goes away… but when Revenge is over and all those feelings it made you numb to come back… will you break, or will you survive? No one can withstand the full force of sadness and depression alone…"- Unknown

Miroku was just about to enter Kaede's hut after hearing a katana being drawn out, he was still berating himself for his stupidity… This was bound to happen! Sango had been under depression for almost a year after losing the last of her family and her revenge against Naraku was the only thing keeping her from doing anything drastic… now, she was alone in a hut, depressed and probably drunk and she had a sword with her! He prayed that he wasn't too late, he prayed that nothing irreversible had happened…

His prayers were answered… the second he came running into the hut he saw Sango, the woman he loved, though not yet admitted it because he promised to say it during today's celebration but certain factors (mostly women who were swooning over him.) kept him from doing it. Well he saw the woman who held his heart pointing a sword towards her gut and he could have sworn his heart froze, clenched and stopped for a second and without thinking for even one second he dashed towards her and just as she was pushing the sword towards herself… he grabbed and violently threw it away, startling the hell out of Sango and himself, they stared at each other in total shock, emotions were flickering in their eyes like fire without order or arrangements… just whatever was the strongest flickered through them… Miroku's was worry and anger, Sango's was anger and wonderment…

The silence between them was lethal, neither could voice a single word or make a single move, Miroku stood there shaking when thinking about what might have happened while Sango sat there against the wall just contemplating what the hell just happened? Had Miroku just stopped her from…? The shock that had followed it made her head a bit sober and she just realised what she had been doing! She should have been grateful for Miroku for stopping her from doing this rash and foolish act but in her messed up state of feelings and the feeling of being deprived from seeing her family her anger got the best of her and she was the first to brake the silence by yelling with an angry face: "What were you thinking you bastard!?"

This also woke Miroku from his state of shock and he knew that she was just messed up from everything that had happened and that flare of anger was expectable but in his shocked and pissed off state of mind because she even thought about doing this he too let his anger get the best of him (You see, when you're angry, you become numb to everything else, that's why stressed up people get angry so easily because they want the stress to go away.) and he yelled back while clenching his fists: "What was I thinking?! What in the name of seven hells were YOU thinking?!?"

That was it, they were both gone, sucked into a vortex of anger and pent up stress… But, they say that sometimes it's better to get it out rather than bottling it all up, even if you end up saying things you don't want to say…(Notice: For now it will be a two way conversation, starting with Sango.)

"Shut up! What do you know?!" She yelled while clenching her own fists.

"What do I know?! What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" He yelled.

"That's exactly what I meant! You can't see anything except yourself!" She shouted back.

"I can't see anything but myself?! What the hell does that have to do with you trying to kill yourself?!?!" He yelled while taking a step closer and pointing his finger at her sword.

"What do you care?! You no longer have to bear the thoughts of dying alone with that damned curse of yours gone and having just about every last girl in the village running after you why would you care what happens to me anymore?!" She yelled with a loud and angry voice, yet her tears were already pushing their way through her eyes regardless of her will.

"Sango… I do care… even if you don't believe me… I do care…" he said with a lower and calmer voice after seeing her tears and hearing her words his own anger had dropped dead, since he was seeing the big picture now… he just hoped it was not too late to convince her… (Now we go back to the usual way of talking, sorry if that seems rushed… I was feeling very awkward about writing it.)

Sango, after hearing those words calmed down a bit, being confused about them she just didn't know how to react and it made her anger cool down, yet it was still there… ready to rise again if needed… she then asked with a shaky voice: "W… what did you just say…?" She wanted to believe that, she really did but… in her state of mind she just didn't want to believe in anything, all she wanted was to wake up from this painful state of loneliness to see that her family was there… but even in this state of mind she knew that it was not possible… yet… no… she just didn't want to think about anything…

Miroku seeing and hearing her calming down a bit, yet still ready to crack open and let loose her anger, he let out a breath of relief… now he had to be careful though, a person in suicide mode like this was completely un-predictable… so he slowly walked in front of her and sat down slowly in front of her and said with a careful voice: "Sango, it may sound like a lie but I can assure you that I do care about how you feel… seeing you like this… it makes me question are you really the same Sango I have known for 4 years…" he finished with a sigh…

Sango listened to every word and they echoed in her mind, as if desperate trying to make her believe them… yet… she had to hear more, this was not enough… she then said: "Houshi-sama… (still not using his real name…) i… i… it just hurts so much…"

Miroku sighed in his mind because she still did not use his name… oh well… he then put his hand on her shoulder and asked: "What does? Tell me, please…" He had a pretty good guess what hurt her so much but he needed her to say it, he had to make her get it out of her mind or it will keep devouring her…

Sango felt his hand on her shoulder, at first she wanted to push it away but instead she welcomed it, it made her feel more secure about all this but no enough… she then shook her head slowly from side to side and said with a weak voice: "I can't… it's too painful to even remember… it just isn't fair… it's too much…" Sango knew she sounded weak and pathetic, for a Tai-jiya to show emotions and weakness like this was unforgivable… yet… she couldn't help it anymore… but she still did not want to let it out…

Miroku watched her, she was ready to break, all it would take was one more push but if he overdid it… Sango needed to get it out and have the cry she denied herself from for almost a year… so he slowly as not to frighten her or make her back off he slowly moved in front of her while her eyes were downcast on the floor and quickly so she couldn't have time to resist he pulled her onto a warm embrace.

Sango tensed up as she felt herself being quickly pulled into an embrace and felt two warm arms surround her back and lock her in position, after a second she regained her composure and tried to get out Mirokus embrace but before she had a chance she heard his whisper in her ear: "Sango, please… don't hold it in anymore, it's been a year now so please let me help you… even if you kill after this I won't let go, I will not let you carry this burden by yourself anymore because I won't and will not just sit by and watch you wither away…" He finished this by placing his head on top of her head and closed his eyes, waiting for her reaction…

Sango tried to resist but after hearing his words she lost all her will to fight back, instead she just replayed his words in her head over and over again… damn, how did he do it? How did this hentai houshi know just how to make her defences break and reach out to touch the very place in her heart that needed the comfort? Maybe it was his training as a houshi or his years of experience talking to people in need of spiritual guidance or maybe just because she… no, even if she did it did not matter, it would not work… yet… after replaying his words in her head for about three more times something inside her broke… everything and I mean EVERYTHING that she'd been holding back for a year came rushing out like an angry river…

Before she could stop herself she clutched onto his robe and while pressing her head on his chest her tears came out, slowly and steadily at first… then she said with a strained voice: "They… they are all gone… everyone… father… mother… Kohaku… everyone I ever knew… he took them away from me… it is not fair, they didn't deserve to die! Kohaku… he was too young to die! Why?! Why did they die and I'm still here?! WHY?!?" Then her tears came out with full force and she cried onto his chest… she felt his arms tighten around her back and slowly began to rub her back to ease her pain, yet, that just made her cry even more and kept saying between sobs: "I've lost everyone…! What am I supposed to do now…!? I don't have a home to go back to or a family to go back to either…!" While saying this she didn't notice but with her right arm she was hitting his chest to try and ease the flow of pain in her chest…

Miroku felt her punches on his chest and to be truthful, they hurt like hell… it was like being hit with a rock, it still amazed him just how strong Sango could be if she did not keep her strength in check but right now he just had to endure it… she was letting herself open up and have the much needed cry to ease the pain… all he could do was to rub her back to make her feel that he was still there…

After about 6-8 minutes of crying and pounding his chest he could feel her punches losing it's strength and could hear her crying being reduced to lowly sobs, after a few more punches her hands just kept clutching onto him and her sobbing was slowing down, until all she did was breath shakily… he then asked with a warm voice barely able to conceal the pain in it from being hit so many times: "Better?" He felt her nod slowly, then he just held her there and rocked back and forth while whispering: "It isn't fair to you… to have you go through all this and even then being left with nothing but more pain… Sango, I'm not so blind as you think I am, I knew you were in pain from the way you talked, lived, walked or fought… yet, I couldn't make you open up to me… you were too set on killing Naraku to even think about letting your feelings get out, so I kept a small distance from you until the time was right… I was going to ask you during the celebration but… old habits die hard as they say…"

Sango was speechless from that one, she just couldn't believe it, she wanted to but couldn't… so to make sure she asked while slowly pulling away so she could look him in the eyes through her own tear stained once: "Houshi-sama? W… what are you saying…?"

The look in her eyes was both making him cringe and feel relieved, she had a broken look but deep in them he saw that what her eyes had been lacking for too long: Life. He slowly put his forehead on hers and said: "Sango, what I am saying is, if you feel like crying or need to get something out of your chest, talk to me, I'm not going to run away or anything like that… you're a strong woman and I admire that (she blushed a bit.) but even if you're physically strong it does not mean that you have a heart made of stone… everyone has a breaking point and you had reached yours… so what I mean is that you don't need to face everything alone like this, I will be there, even if you don't want me to be there… I won't go away…"

She was now even more shocked, was this really the same Miroku, the hentai king? (Her nickname for him.) The one that always fondled her and flirted with just about anything that was a female and had two legs? When did he become so… she couldn't find the word but she just could not believe it… yet… hearing those words made her feel so… warm… so… cared and… she managed to say through a strained voice: "Ho…Houshi-sama…" yet before she could finish he put a finger on her lips to silence her and said with a sigh: "Sango, could you please, just this once at least say my name instead of my profession…? I don't mean to be rude but it is getting annoying…" She was a bit taken back but for this once she said: "Ho… Miroku…" He smiled and she continued: "…I… you… how…? Just how do you…?" She couldn't say anything… she looked at him and saw his questioning look but instead of trying to say anything, knowing it was useless, she did something that she had wanted to do for so long…

Miroku did not know what happened, he was not even sure he wanted to know how it happened but the next thing he knew was that his back hit floor of the hut, making their weapons fall from their positions on the walls all over floor, after his back was on the floor and he tried to regain his sense of awareness he felt Sango do something that made all his logical thoughts leave him: She kissed him, hard.

It was hard but brief, before he had a chance to react she pulled away, she was both embarrassed and ashamed, embarrassed because she had just done something she had wanted to do for so long and ashamed because of how she did it… she had just kissed him without even thinking… she had not given him any warning or a chance to protest… what would he think about her now? Even though Miroku was a hentai even he had morals… small as they maybe he still had them… and she was sure that her acting like a street geisha was not a very good thing… she wanted to run, run away from here because she did not want to face him… yet, before she could move or even say anything, she felt Miroku pull her back down and returned the kiss, except that this one was not like the one she had given him… this one was gentle and tender and she could feel that he was not disgusted or angry… this made her relax and while closing her eyes she let herself be carried away by the kiss she and Miroku were sharing, ignoring the world around them…

During the kiss she felt Miroku rolling them so they were both on their sides and she instinctively put her arms around his neck and shoulders to deepen the kiss and she felt him do the same and she couldn't help but moan into the kiss… all her worries and pain, all the loneliness and emptiness just drained away and all that was left was this solitary feeling of bliss and warmth… she didn't want this to end but the burning feeling in her lungs demanding for air was getting unbearable and she had no choice but to brake the kiss and pant for air desperately, hearing him do the same…

Miroku was breathless too… he himself could not believe that Sango had just done that, to think that every time he had even tried this before would have led to the scene where her Hiraikotsu was making a hard and painful impact on his head… now… he wanted to laugh but knew that would be a bad idea… instead he opened his eyes to meet hers… neither did not want to say anything… this moment was too precious to be ruined by words, so instead he put his palm on her cheek and rubbed it gently and she leaned into it the best she could… her palm went to his cheek and rubbed it as well… after a few minutes of doing this Miroku looked at her making a silent question with his eyes while looking at her now slightly red lips, she blushed a bit from his silent plea but she too wanted it so she nodded and as their lips were about to meet again… they heard someone yell from the outside of the hut: "SANGO! MIROKU!" They both literally jumped up and got their ruffled clothes back into shape just in time as Shippo came rushing with a speed that would make anyone ask: "where's the fire?"

Both of them were blushing and tried to keep themselves from looking like idiots and somehow managed to do it too… Shippo came rushing in while panting like crazy and Miroku was the one to ask, while concealing the anger from the interruption, so he asked the little Kitsune: "Shippo, what's the matter?" Sango too looked at the kit with worry and confusion in her eyes, it was not usual for the kit to be in this kind of a hurry…

Shippo was no longer a little runt, during the 4 years he had grown up a bit, he was now so tall his head could reach Kagome's waist, his hair was still the same but his hind legs were a bit bigger and his paws had small sharp claws in them and his face had formed two dark green stripes on both his cheeks and his eyes looked more mature now, his tail was not so bushy because it had grown so it was split in two, making him look like a real Kitsune youkai… But, even if he was grown up his personality was not that much different, he still picked on Inuyasha and all that but he was not so ignorant about some… "adult things" anymore… ever since learning a bit about he had picked Inuyasha about his crush on Kagome for a long year… nearly getting killed by a very pissed of hanyou more than once had Kagome not been there to say `Sit'…

As Shippo caught his breath he said with a worried and almost child like tone: "Kirara smelled something bad coming this way… or more like three of them! Three big Youkais are heading for the well and Kirara said that's were both Inuyasha and Kagome were!" Shippo had learned over the years to talk to Kirara, he understood pretty much everything the fire cat had to say and it was fun at times…

Both Miroku and Sango were hit with a realisation… Inuyasha and Kagome did not have their weapons with them! Sure Inuyasha might be able to handle them but Kagome was still too exhausted to use her Miko powers to defend herself… It took less than five seconds before Sango was in her slayer suit and fully armed for combat, same with Miroku, they would talk about what just happened between them later, right now, a heavy shit storm was heading towards they're friends and they had to hurry…

Kirara was waiting outside the hut already transformed and as Miroku, Sango and Shippo got on her back, Miroku carrying Tetsusaiga while Sango had Kagome's arrows and bow, as they leapt to the sky they prayed they would get there in time… since Kirara's sense of smell was not a good as Inuyasha's it meant that the three Youkais were not too far away and they might not reach them before those Youkai did… They knew that Inuyasha might be able to buy them enough time to reach them… that is until two other scents hit Kiraras nose and she growled at both of them…

Sango heard Kiraras growl and before she could ask Shippo what she was saying he said with an annoyed tone: "Kirara just picked up two familiar scents… the first one belongs to Kouga and he's right there with Kagome and Inuyasha…" Both Miroku and Sango groaned… personally they had nothing against the wolf prince but after so many times of him screwing up Kagome's and Inuyasha's chances of getting together it was getting really annoying… now they were sure that they were sure that they would not make it in time… since by the time either Kouga or Inuyasha could smell the three youkais coming, it would be too late since knowing them they are at each other's throats by now… not to mention they would be exhausted by that time too… this was not good…

Then Miroku asked because of what Shippo had said: "Shippo, what did you mean when Kirara said that there were TWO familiar scents?" This made both the fire cat and the little Kitsune look at each other before Shippo said with hesitance: "Well… neither I nor her want to believe this but the other scent belongs to…to…"

There was a long pause before Miroku was hit with a realisation, as was Sango, there was only one being that could make them all shiver and feel like this… only one… they all said the name at the exact same time, minus Kirara who growled…
