InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Daughter of the Forest ❯ Chapter 9
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
a/n: we are almost at the bad bits. the story is very very slowly coming together, in my head, i just need to write it down. only 4 weeks of school left! then i'll write all holiday (if i'm not finished by then).
ethril dragon of course this is my own crazy version (mostly cause i haven't read the entire series and so don't know the ending of the others)
Disclaimer: i don't own inuyasha cause Rumiko Takahashi or the book 'daughter of the forest' cause Julliet Marillier does. So i don't claim the storyline or the characters.
Chapter nine- The end of healing.
It was quiet in the forest. Except for the sounds of an animal prowling the forest floor and the birds singing in the trees. It was almost magical the way everything was alive.
Kagome took this as a good sign. Well she felt great, the wounds on Sango were healing and she could even leave the cave now.
They spent a lot of their time in the small streams playing with the water. Why? cause it was just fun and they had no worries or doubts. They were friends now and Kagome would do anything for Sango and vice-versa.
The only problems were the nights. In the day here nightmares were easy to avoid but at night they would torment her with visions and people she knew, but didn't know.
All Kagome could do was wipe away the sweat when her friend cried out in her sleep. One man in particular she tried to remember, a monk in a purple robe.
"I think i liked him" She once said.
Kagome clapped her hands "See i told you you'd remember"
"But i hit him all the time?" It was more a question to herself.
"Maybe he's a pig" Kagome sighed. These silly dreams were confusing.
It was dark and the sun had set, the stars were out. Kagome bandaged up the last wound "You've healed so well!" she exclaimed as there was only a few scars.
But Sango was somewhere else not thinking about that.
"But i still can't remember who i am" She sighed.
Kagome was about to open her mouth when...
-------------
A few hours before Kilala had left the girls in search of her old friend. It wasn't like she was hard to find.
She sat beneath the huge tree, the center of the forest, near the little tree that Kagome planted for her mother.
She was crying, but her ghostly face hid her tears and her eyes spoke only of sorrow.
She held something in her hands, a beautiful purple, pink sphere.
It was the most precious thing she owned, the only thing that kept her 'alive' and her power strong.
But it was incomplete a small peice missing, stolen from her in her moment of weakness...
Kilala walked beside her and licked her fingers.
She woke from the trance she was in and the sphere disapeared...
"Kilala, don't scare me" She laughed as she pet the cat with her transparent hands.
"When will it end?" she asked out of nowhere "When will i be free of this pain?"
'Soon,' Thought the cat, 'but right now i have some horrible news'
The cat told Midoriko about the deed going on right now, for Midoriko had no such ability to see the future, and Kikyo didn't tell her, she told someone else...
"What?!" Midoriko's eyes went wide "That bastard!"
She stood up and clentched her fists, almost imediantly the forest began to stir, the trees began to grow and move with her anger and her power. The little tree Kagome had planted grew faster taller, it twisted and turned with her anger.
'Stop it!' thought Kilala and Midoriko did as she asked, all the plants returned to normal.
"I can't believe this is happening" She turned to Kilala,"why didn't you tell me before so i-"
'So you could hide her and protect her? You knew what could happen. I cannot tell you everything' Ssaid the cat angrily.
Midoriko knew she was right but what was going to happen would be devistating.
'Somethimes bad things have to happen' Kilala said.
Midoriko understood, "I'm ready" she whispered.
Kilala purred and ran off in the direction she had come.
Midoriko watched her and sighed "I hate that bastard. For what he has done... to me and Kagome"
---------------
'Kagome!' Growled the larger form of Kilala.
This time Kagome didn't wince of look shocked, she and Kilala had been communicating telelpathically for a long time. She had become use to her growing powers.
"What is it?" She asked noting the ergancy in her voice and her form.
'You have to go home! Now something terrible is happening'
"What?" She cried "Is dad okay?"
Sango looked up "What's happening?"
"I have to go home Sango, i'm sorry" Kagome packed what little things she had "Don't worry i'll come back soon"
"Why?" Sango began to worry, she hadn't been on her own for a long time and feared the nights "I thought we were friends?"
Kagome turned and saw the pitiful look of a child who thought she was leaving forever "I'll come back, but you have to stay here please" Kagome begged.
"Don't leave me" whispered Sango, but Kagome didn't hear.
"I'll come back" She waved as she climbed onto Kilala's back and they had disapeared.
Sango watched in dismay.
Then suddenly she felt a hand on her shoulder, a cold transparant hand "It is time Sango"
She turned to face the ghost, her eyes wide.
"It is time for you to leave, to find who you are" She said
The ghost held something large in her hands, Sango thought she knew what it was, a beautiful boomerang shaped weapon "Take it"...
As Kilala took Kagome home, she thought of her friend, not knowing that she wouldn't see Sango again for a long time...
A/n: another crazy chapter. i tried to point out Kilala was more than just a pet. I'm so close to the bad bits, i'm not sure how bad they'll be... i'll warn you
