Chapter twenty five- Princess Kagome
"I know her!" Exclaimed Sango, with worry and even a hint of joy.
They were all back at the castle eating around the huge oak table. Sesshomaru sat at its head, Inuyasha next to him, a space for Jenny, who was not present and then across from them Miroku and Sango.
Somehow the discussion changed and they were talking about the wild girl called Jenny. Sango had been filled with joy when she had first seen the girl past out. She had said nothing about her till now though, because she wanted everyone present.
"It was almost four years ago" She stared as if into the past "She saved my life, and for a while she was my best friend"
"Wait!" Sesshomaru put up a hand "Start from the beginning."
So Sango did. She told them about her capture and her cruel treatment in the dungeon. She told of the sweet girl who had saved her and then became her friend. She told of how the girl had been persistent with trying to make her better and of how one day she was called home and did not return. That had been the last time she saw her. She didn't tell them about the ghost woman for that was something she would keep secret and not even Miroku would ever know.
"She was the princess" Sango said at last "Leon's daughter, princess Kagome"
Inuyasha was stunned, Sesshomaru said nothing as well. Both her thinking about what it could mean.
"You mean she is the daughter of our enemy?" Asked Miroku
Sango shook her head angrily "She is not our enemy she's my friend and she needs our protection and support. Her family are missing and she is supposedly the only one left of them"
Sango already knew about the disappearance of Leon and his kingdom.
"Then why was she all alone in the forest? If she is indeed princess Kagome and not with the others?" Sesshomaru pondered "I think there is still something not solved about your mate Inuyasha"
Inuyasha looked up at the word 'mate'. He had worry in his eyes but Sesshomaru gave him one of his rare reassuring smiles.
Inuyasha stood up and decided to talk to Kagome himself. She was a princess and an enemy but it didn't seem to change anything in his heart. It only made him fear, did she hate him because of their differences? She had helped Sango who was an enemy would it be so hard to love an enemy?

Kagome curled into a tight ball, as small as she could get herself. She was in complete darkness under the bed covers but she was too afraid to pull them away and face the day. For the moment she was still alive, still safe.
She had woken in Inuyasha's room and at first all felt well and as it should be but then memory of her words flooded back to her and she instantly recoiled under the sheets. It was not a good hiding place and she knew if Naraku knew where she was it would not stop him.
She could still remember speaking, opening her mouth and shouting a warning to Inuyasha. She cursed that mistake, and yet she was thankful that he was still alive. All she could do was wait now, wait for Naraku who she was certain would come. She was too far away from Midoriko and Kilala and she felt so alone.
Inuyasha entered the room and hear a startled sqeak beneath the covers of his bed. "Kagome?" He asked in a gentle voice.
The covers moved but nothing else happened. "Please go away" She croaked with a voice filled with fear.
Inuyasha was instantly even more worried. "Kagome what's wrong?" with a claw he pulled the covers down and revealed the hiding girl. She had unshed tears in her eyes.
"I know who you are" Inuyasha said bluntly "Princess Kagome, Leon's daughter"
Kagome turned away from him, ashamed and afraid "Is that why you never told me your name? And never spoke to me? Is it something to do with your family?"
She nodded her head but did not look at him, a tear slipped from her eye. She didn't want to tell him of her marriage to Naraku or of the curse on her family. She felt ashamed and she was sure he regretted making her his mate.
"I'm not angry" He half laughed and wiped the tear away bringing her to look at him.
Then as if to show he did not care that she was the daughter of his enemy, to reassure himself that she was indeed still there in his bed beside him and not a figment of his imagination he pulled her into his embrace and hugged her with all the love he had.
She began to cry and he rocked her like you would a child and whispered sweet words into her ear. After a while of just sitting like that, one his bed with her in his arms he finally asked "Now tell me"
She sniffled and took her time obviously deciding what to say. But then fear took hold once more and all she could sob was "He is coming for me" She held his tighter "I spoke and now he is coming, you are in danger, I'm in danger and my family"
Then trembling and shaking with grief and fear she cried till she fell asleep. All Inuyasha could do was worry about what dangers she could still be in.

Blood pooled around the white body. The fur was clumped and mattered where sweat and blood had dried and her great chest was heaving with effort. The cell was dark and the white form of Kilala stood out from the harsh stone floor. He great big red eyes were hooded and her tail swished uselessly.
She had met Naraku and tried to fight him. She had been close and both had been bleeding badly at the end of the fight which was still quite fresh in the old cat youkai's mind. She knew she was going to lose from the very start but she had no other choice. It was her duty to protect the Miko's like Midoriko and Kagome and had to try to defeat the demon who was causing them so much pain.
Now she lay dying alone in the cell Naraku had shoved her in. He would not kill her straight away because he wanted her to suffer and she was suffering as the life ebbed from her body.
Kanna stood at the cell doors quiet, unmoving, a ghostly white shadow of a girl. The mirror reflected the dim light and the image of the dying Youkai but still the girl had no emotions.
"You are the one who protected my sister, did you think you could defeat Naraku?" She said in a whisper.
Kilala stared at the girl, and gave a hoarse laugh 'I understand now,' She thought, either to herself or the emotionless girl watching her die, 'all those years ago Kikyou said I could not win, that I would die trying. Midoriko and Kagome cannot fight him either, they do not have the strength.'
Then her eyes focused on the girl's pale face 'That is why you and Kagura do not fight, for you will fail as well. You are all alone, that is why Kagome choose Inuyasha. If she can give him her heart then maybe he will have the strength the win'
Kilala felt weaker and closed her eyes as she thought 'And then I will be at peace'

Midoriko was worried, she had neither heard no seen any sign of Kilala and she knew nothing of what was happening to Kagome, she had a Bad feeling though.
She sat beneath the tree that held her soul, that hid it from Naraku and felt the barrier that guarded her waning, soon she would be unprotected and Naraku would come for her.
She stood up suddenly filled with determination, 'Not if i get to him first'
That was when she decided she would fight back.
***
Naraku laughed in triumph and Kagura was glad she would not get a beating today. Finally the girl had stumbled and her hiding place became known to him.
Kagome had spoken and now he knew where she was, across the sea in the dog demon Kingdom.
"Did she truly thing she could hide from me there?" He cried in victory.
In a matter of hours he and a small army of demons and men alike were on a large ship headed for the kingdom. He would have gone himself but he feared that they would not give her up so easily. Kanna stood beside him and Kagura was left behind to watch over the castle.
Tomorrow he would have her returned to him. Then he would have her body and her soul. That would be the key to getting Midoriko and the whole kingdom. He would finally get everything he ever fought for.
A/n: Its almost the end yay!
