InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Even If You Cannot Hear My Voice ❯ Kikyo gets a reminder ( Chapter 2 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Kikyo wondered if it was enough now that Naraku was gone. No, she thought as she solemnly glared at the beautiful sunrise just peaking over the mountains. That bastard must pay along with those spawn from him-whether or not they betrayed him is irrelevant. And Midoriko's soul calls to behold the jewel whole again and purified once more. As she allowed her thoughts to wander, she decided she would send two of her shikigami to retrieve Inuyasha for her. Heh, she thought vehemently, he will always come when I call.
She decided she would inform him of Naraku's recent demise as well as remind him of his impending descent to Hell. It is always a joy for me to see his wanton hope of me releasing him to that bitch of a reincarnation dwindle every time we speak.
As soon as those thoughts entered her manipulative mind, she felt a presence perhaps no more than four feet away looming behind her.
“Sesshoumaru…” she spat. His presence was never welcome in her opinion. He was dangerous, and she knew he loathed her toying with Inuyasha even though he himself had professed his hatred of the hanyou time and time again.
“Miko…do you forget what this Sesshoumaru told you? Inuyasha will die by my hand. No other has that right.” If there was anything he hated more than his stupid half-brother, it was this wench. Why did he ever have to get involved with humans? And even after her betrayal, her unfounded claims on his life, her outlandish loathing of my idiot half-brother…he still will not dispose of her. Pathetic. His mind chastised himself for only a second telling him that Inuyasha had no choice in dealing with humans since he didn't bring the hanyou up in the inu-youkai clan. He quickly forced that out of his head as he glared at the undead miko.
Kikyo said nothing as she slowly turned around while fingering her bow. She knew she wouldn't be able to shoot a purification arrow at him before he cut her down and reduced her to graveyard soil. Dammit. She mentally cursed him.
“Inuyasha is mine.” She said as evenly as possible though Sesshoumaru detected the tremor in her voice, slight as it was.
“Miko, you are undead and have no right to that claim.” Sesshoumaru noticed her severe agitation because of his presence and inwardly smirked at that fact. He knew she was wondering whether or not she could pull out a purification arrow in time. Heh. Perhaps she wishes to go back to Hell right now. I have no intention of sending her there unless she attacks me or attempts to solidify her foolish claim on Inuyasha. He noticed her as she lowered both her arms to her sides, and felt that she was being submissive enough to let her go-for now.
“A wise decision…” he stated as he transformed into a glowing ball and subsequently floated away.
“That fool. Sesshoumaru will not stop me. Inuyasha will suffer all eternity at my side.” And with that she nodded to her shikigami, and two entwined and twirled around each other as they glided away.
“Kikyo-sama…was that…?” Kohaku was cautious about approaching her. Kikyo more or less had him keeping an eye on his sister and her friends recently. She told him it was to find out all the information he could about Naraku's whereabouts from them, but he had his reservations. All of the times they had come close to finding Naraku, she was already close by without spying on the group. Nevertheless, he did as he was told. She convinced him that she alone could defeat Naraku by purifying him with the completed jewel, and he found that more reasonable than any other idea he had encountered. Besides, at least he could watch over his sister for awhile longer before he gave Kikyo his jewel shard.
“Kohaku. Sesshoumaru has sent Naraku to Hell. You no longer need to give up your shard to ensure his demise. However, Mouryoumaru will still hunt you for it.” Kikyo didn't need Sesshoumaru to tell her what he had done. She had heard rumors of an inu-youkai opening a rift in space and thereby sending parts of any youkai he faced to that other world, but she did not think he was capable of sending an entire being there as of yet.
To say that Kohaku was shocked into dumbness was an understatement. He dropped his sickle and stared at Kikyo in disbelief. He couldn't accept his only sworn enemy was gone, and he was still alive to hear about it. He had come to grips with the fact that his life would be lost in order to vanquish Naraku for a long time now.
Kikyo knew that this would change a lot for Kohaku. She still didn't think the boy should be allowed to live because of his crimes. Even though Naraku had had him under his control, Kohaku had so very much to atone for. She thought their agreement was acceptable. He would help her in what way he could until she made sure that Naraku had all the remaining shards in his possession, and then give himself to Naraku when his was the only shard left to be had. This way he could atone for some of the atrocities he had committed this life before passing into the next.
“Kohaku. You can go to your sister and spend the rest of your days with her if you wish. I am still going to complete the Shikon no Tama and purify it. I will come for you when I am ready.” She surmised he should still serve her until he died since he had killed her other servants, but he didn't have much time to live anyways, so maybe he could find peace with his sister before she ended his life. This way she could always go back to spending her time cursing that damn hanyou like before Kohaku volunteered his life and assistance.
“But…Kikyo-sama…I swore my life to you…” Kohaku could still keep his promise to Kikyo while he watched his sister, after all. They wouldn't interact, but somehow it was much easier to keep his distance instead of just running to her and crying on her shoulder like he wanted to.
“As you wish…” Kikyo slowly walked back into the woods as she called behind her. “You many resume your post.” And with that she entered the forest searching for a suitable position in which she could sit looking demure and forlorn when Inuyasha came running to her.
“HAI!” Kohaku yelled and jumped off the small cliff on which they were standing. He began to race toward the camp where is sister was still sleeping, when-
“OI! KOHAKU!” A brash voice yelled as Kohaku was leaping down from a tree.
“Huh?” Kohaku looked to see that it was Inuyasha and he was apparently heading in the direction from which Kohaku had just come.
“Why have you been watching us? Did Kikyo send you to do it, or are you just watching Sango, too scared to face her in person!” Inuyasha was angry. He was pissed that he didn't know why Kohaku had been following them around. He was pissed that Kagome was moaning in her sleep, calling out his name, and he couldn't just go to her and gently wake her up and rock her in his arms. And he was especially pissed that Kikyo had decided to send her fucking soul catchers to get him at that exact moment. How does she always know? He had snarled guiltily as he leapt off into the distance.
“Ummm…I didn't want to upset aneue…she is always so sad when she sees me. Gomen, Inuyasha-sama.” Well, he did tell him part of the truth, anyways. If Kikyo-sama wanted Inuyasha to know the real reason why I am always hiding in the shadows near their group, she'll let him know herself.
“Keh. Just go see her, you stupid brat. Sango's worried about you.” With one last hard glance at Kohaku, along with a persuasive growl, he hopped into the nearest tree and leapt out of sight.
Inuyasha sniffed into the air and caught her scent quickly. Though it sickened him slightly, each time he went to her he became a bit nauseated due to the graveyard soil, he was bound to do so. He had made her a promise-whether or not he still felt the same about her as he did fifty years ago was irrelevant. After all, how could he keep any of the respect he had gained from his friends if he proved himself to be a liar? Of course, they all hated it when he went to see her, but that was beside the point. Didn't they see that he didn't have a choice? Keh. Stupid humans. He told himself as he approached the edge of Kikyo/Midoriko's barrier. They have no idea what this is like.
