Chapter 14: And the truth comes out
a/n sorry so long. for those of you who like my fics please read the authors note i posted. i really need the opinions. well on with the show.......
Kirara landed with a soft thud. Kagome's heart was racing. She knew it had to be done but she dreaded the outcome. As Kikyo, Sango and Kagome dismounted, the tension in the air thickened. Miroku looked calm as ever as he motioned for the girls to follow him. To both Kagome's and Kikyo's surprised, Inuyasha was actually there and looked rathter composed. Kagome steeled her emotions and set her shoulders. 'This is it' she thought with resolve.
As Kagome motioned for everyone to be seated, Inuyasha began to get nervous. 'This has to be done, this has to be done...' he chanted to himself. Once all were seated, Kagome looked to Inuyasha. She took a calming breath. "Inuyasha, have you made your decision?" she asked calmly. Inuyasha looked around at the group and gulped. Finally he settled his eyes on Kagome. "Yes, I have." he replied. The small collection of people all waited with bated breath.
It seemed like an eternity had passed before Inuyasha opened his mouth. "Kagome.." he started."...I'm sorry but, I choose Kikyo." The look of uncertainty that had clouded Kikyo's face was now replaced with triumph. "It's just as I have always said," she said triumphly raising to her feet, "He loves me not you, you incompetant little slut." Kagome just stood up, calm as can be. "Kikyo, you have no room to talk. You who can no longer see the jewel shards and you who has slept with more men than can be counted." Kagome said smoothly. She calmly looked to Inuyasha who was makin ghis way to Kikyo's side. "I am happy you finally made a decision Inuyasha." she saud with the smallest of smiles. "But just to let you know, the woman you have chosen will betray you in the end. She already has in some ways. When I went to find her, I found her giving head to your older brother. And if you don't believe me ask Sango she was there also. Oh, and something none of you know, she has also been fucking Naraku. So Inuyasha", she said smuggly, "I hope you're happy with your choice because now you have to stick with it." Inuyasha was dumb founded. He looked over at the now furious Kikyo. "Th..th..that isn't true is it, Kikyo?" he stuttered. Kikyo calmed her self. "Of course not, Inuyasha." she purred. "She's just a jealous little girl." Kikyo looked daggers at Kagome, who just shrugged. "Believe me. Don't." she said simply. "But when she stabs you in the back don't come looking for me because I won't be there to help you." She turned to her friends. "You now have the choice to accompany him or me. I will no longer travel with the half-demon. I will give you time to decide while I pack my things." They all turned and watched the girl walk away.
The group was in shock. For what seemed like hours, they were all lost in thier own thoughts. Kikyo seemed to be the only one not bothered by all of this. Finally, Shippo and Kirara stood up. "Well," he started, "I don't know about you guys but I'm going with Kagome." Kirara mewed in agreement. As Sihppo and Kirara made thier way to Kagome, Sango and Miroku looked at one another. "Well" Sango said standing up. "I'm in agreement with those two, I'm going with Kagome." Miroku stood up and nodded. "Well, seeing as Kikyo can no longer see the shards, I shall accompany Inuyasha." Sango was a bit surprised but she only nodded and went after Kagome. Inuyasha looked at the monk. "Miroku do you think it's smart to leave them with no protection?" he asked. Miroku sighed. "They shall be fine my friend." he said patting his friend on the shoulder. "The demons have been all but absent in these past weeks. They'll be fine." Miroku gave a side long glance to Kikyo who slightly nodded her head. "Well, lets be on our way." Inuyasha said.

Kagome sighed. 'Why aren't I more upset over all this?' she wondered. 'I mean the man I love just chose the pot over me. I do love him, right?' She was knocked out of her thoughts when Shippo tugged on her skirt. Kagome shook her head slightly and looked down at the boy. "Kagome, are we going to be ok?" he asked. Sango also stopped what she was doing looking over at Kagome. Kagome sighed. "There is something I didn't tell you guys and now that Inuyasha and his little group are gone I'll tell you." Kagome sat down. Shippo and Sango came over and sat down next to her. "Ok," she started, "you know how it's been kinda quiet lately. You know, not too many demons around?" They both nodded. "Well, thats because" she said pulling some thing out of her pocket, "the only shards of the jewel I am missing are the shards that Naraku has." They stared in awe at the huge chunk of jewel that Kagome held in her palm. "Kagome, how did you come by al of these?" Sango asked stunned. "I learned how to mask the presence of the jewel. So, all those shards we were finding I hid. Don't you think it was odd that the jar I have never seemed to get fuller?" Suddenly, it dawned on Sango and Shippo. "But what about the shards Kouga had?" Shippo asked. "Well, when he left to mate with Ayame I told him that he could either give me the jewel shards or I could puify him and take them. He decided to just give them to me." Kagome answered with a smile. "Well that was lucky." Shippo said. Kagome stood up. She stretched and smiled at her friends. "Well, we had better get this stuff packed up and head to Kaede's to get some well needed rest."
