Ch.2: Stuck in the Future

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters.

Sesshomaru walked to the well and jumped into it. He came out in Kagome's time and went up to her front door. When it opened Kagome was standing there smiling. "Bye gramps!!" Before Sesshomaru knew what was happening he had a sutra stuck to his forehead. He raised his eyebrow and plucked the paper off. The shikon jewel, which was tucked away in Sesshomaru's robes, glowed an eerie red. It disappeared into thin air. Feeling the jewels absence Sesshomaru dug through his robes and looked pale. "What's wrong?" "The shikon jewel, it's gone." Kagome dropped her bag and ran to Sesshomaru. "Are you serious?" "Yes…" "So that means both of us are stuck here until we can get it back." Kagome led Sesshomaru into the house and introduced him to her mother and brother. "This is Inuyasha's older brother, Sesshomaru." "He's a full demon?" "Yep." Sota smiled and grabbed his tail. "Are you sure he's a guy?" Sesshomaru raised one eyebrow and picked Sota up by the back of his shirt. "Yes, thank you very much, I am a man." Sota laughed nervously and nodded, "I was kidding." Sesshomaru sat Sota back on the ground and looked at Kagome's mother. "You are more than welcome here Sesshomaru. Any friend of Kagome's is a friend of the family." Kagome pulled Sesshomaru through the house and gave him a tour. "You can share a room with Sota." "Don't worry about it; I'll sleep in a tree. It's natural for me." That night as Sesshomaru sat in the tree looking up at the stars he began to remember his childhood. Kagome came out and looked up at him. She climbed up the tree and fell just as she reached the top branch. Sesshomaru quickly reached down and caught her. "Why are you out here this late?" "I couldn't sleep so I was coming out to look at the stars…I always do when I can't sleep." "Mmm hmmm, do you always climb to the top of a tree as well?" "No…" Sesshomaru pulled Kagome up onto the branch and sat her between his legs. "Thanks." She gazed up at the stars and pointed out constellations to Sesshomaru. "Are there any demons up there?" Kagome looked at Sesshomaru and smiled, "I don't think so…but I could be wrong." The two of them fell asleep in the tree. When Kagome woke up the next morning she saw the sky above her and jumped. She fell off the branch only to be caught once more by Sesshomaru. "You are danger proned aren't you?" Kagome smiled as Sesshomaru pulled her up into his arms and jumped out of the tree. "Thank you." "Perhaps you should

stay out of trees…" Kagome rolled her eyes and walked inside, Sesshomaru followed her. When breakfast was served Sesshomaru just looked at it. "What's wrong?" "This food looks like its alive…" Kagome laughed, "It's not alive, I promise." After breakfast Sesshomaru and Kagome started to think of where the shikon jewel might be. "It could have been transported back to my time." Sesshomaru said sitting down under the God tree. Kagome sat down beside him and looked at him. "How could that happen?" "Well, the jewel has very powerful mystic powers, so it's very possible." Kagome looked at Sesshomaru shocked. "I know more about the shikon jewel than everyone thinks I do." "Please, tell me the history of the jewel." Sesshomaru thought for a moment. "Hundreds of thousands of years ago the shikon jewel was hidden away in a sacred tree. A young priestess named Kikiyo discovered the jewel and took it home to her village. The village elder recognized the young girl's ability to purify the jewel and cleanse it of all evil that it had come in contact with. She was named the protector of the jewel; that is what the village elder said was her destiny." Kagome looked at Sesshomaru with wide eyes. "What is wrong?" "Oh, nothing I'm just shocked that you know so much about the jewel, please continue." Sesshomaru nodded and continued his story. "After the girl grew up and became an official priestess she met a half demon and fell in love." "Inuyasha." Sesshomaru nodded. "They went everywhere together; they were the talk of the village. After being together for a while Inuyasha was going to use the shikon jewel to become human and be with Kikiyo forever. However, when Kikiyo took the jewel to their meeting spot she was betrayed by Inuyasha. He attacked her and stole the jewel. Inuyasha came to see Kikiyo the next day and was pinned to the very tree that the jewel had been hidden in by a magic arrow. The last thing he saw was his one love, Kikiyo, standing with a bow in her hand." Kagome looked at Sesshomaru and he looked back. "Wow, I…never would have thought that you knew that much about the shikon jewel." "Yes, it is kind of odd that a demon would know so much about that jewel." Kagome stood up and looked down the road. "Here comes Sota." Sota jumped into Kagome's arms and pointed. There was a man with a meat cleaver chasing him down the street. "Kagome, get you and your brother inside the house. I'll take care of this." When the man reached Sesshomaru he raised the meat cleaver. "Why are you chasing this boy?" "The brat got my son in trouble at school." "Does that give you the right to chase a young boy down the road with a meat cleaver in your hand?" Sesshomaru grabbed his arm when the man tried to cut Sesshomaru. "I wouldn't chase this boy; or anyone from this family again unless you want to deal with me." The man looked at Sesshomaru, dropped the weapon and ran away. "Oh my, he cut you Sota." "Come here boy." Sota hesitantly walked toward Sesshomaru who placed his hands over the cut. "This won't hurt." He said seeing the worried look on Sota's face. Sesshomaru's hands began to glow a blue color and the cut was instantly healed. "Wow, thanks man." Sesshomaru's lips turned up into a slight smile and he stood up. That night at dinner Kagome had to hold Sesshomaru back so he wouldn't destroy the stove when the flames danced to life. "Relax; it's just a stove, nothing to be afraid of." "Humph, me, Sesshomaru, afraid of a…a "stove", it's ridiculous." Kagome hit a button and steam shot out of the stove. Sesshomaru jumped out of his chair and readied himself for battle. Kagome giggled and tapped Sesshomaru on the shoulder. He spun around to face her. "I told you to relax." Sesshomaru turned and prepared to jump out the roof and Kagome went to grab his sleeve, but their hands brushed instead. Both of them blushed, Kagome a bit more than Sesshomaru. "I…I really don't think my mom would like having a Sesshomaru shaped hole in our roof." "Of course, I'm sorry." Sesshomaru felt a light tug on his sleeve and looked back at Kagome. "Yes, what is it?" "Can…can I ask you a question?" "Of course you can." "Uh, why are you being so kind?" "That was unexpected…because…well, I suppose it's because I like you." Kagome glanced at Sesshomaru. "As a friend, or more than a friend?" Sesshomaru thought for a moment. "Will this answer question?" he asked bending down and lightly touching his lips to hers. "Yea, that'll do." Kagome said wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him closer to her. Kagome's mom walked into the kitchen and smiled. *It's about time Kagome found herself someone.* Sesshomaru pulled away from Kagome and allowed his lips to turn up into a very rare smile. Kagome smiled back and all of a sudden the shikon jewel was sitting on the table. "Let's go back." "Okay!!" the two of them walked to the well, held hands and jumped into it.
