InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Hidden Past, Hidden Self ❯ Sesshomaru vs. Kane-Sakura I ( Chapter 10 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

I do not own any of the InuYasha characters in this fanfic. But I do own the main character and her soon to be boyfriend; the other made up ones belong to my friends. Steph owns Mika, Nicky owns Michi (coming soon), and Danielle owns Yuki (coming soon).

Last time on The Hanyou's Little Sister

"Do not panic," A voice said from a far corner of the expansive room. "You are being well taken care of and in no danger." A pair of silver eyes shimmered in the moonlight. "Make yourself at home, Kane-Sakura; you live here now."

"Who are you?!" Kane demanded from the shadowy figure. She slowly stood and took out her sword, Teretsu.

"You wouldn't hurt your fiancé would you?" He stepped out of the shadows and into the dimly lit room.

"No closer or I'll…fiancé? Since when?"…

"But I don't love you!" Kane ran for the door, but was halted by Trowa; he embraced her in a tight hug. Try as she might, she couldn't squirm out of his grasp. "Let go of me you bastard!"

"Kane-Sakura, can't you see that my heart goes out to you? I love you!" He brought his lips down to meet hers in a tender kiss. At first Kane was stunned by his soft, warm lips and she attempted to push him away, but it failed miserably. She succumbed to his gentle pecks and soon began to return them as she closed her eyes. With each new kiss, she sank deeper into a feeling of security.

He pulled his face away from hers and looked into her eyes as they glistened in desire. Fireworks were shooting in her pools of amber as she blushed a brilliant pink. No word could describe what they had experienced. Kane's feelings shifted from Setsuna to this man that stood before her; his charm had subdued her to a mere little girl….

"They cared not for you; that's why they convinced your mother to give you away to my family as soon as you were weaned from her breast. They were going to give you to my family, have you and me marry, then live out our lives together as rulers of this domain. Not long after your birth, your mother was attacked by a demon after a mysterious phenomenon sent the demon's army into oblivion. His army had been attacking your family's castle, but a bright light illuminated the whole area, leaving only the army leader alive. And for some reason, he went after you and your mother. She sent you into the well, but my people believed you had been devoured by the same evil spirit that had left your mother by the well. When we told your kin about the tragedy, they mourned only for your mother, not one tear was shed in your sake."…

Reality hit Kane almost at once. She asked while Mika was laughing, "Did we just tell my brother to sit?" He fell deeper with a loud "Oof!"

Mika rubbed some tears away to look at Kane. She saw the seriousness in her face, and realized how much trouble they were really in. "Yeah, I think we did tell him to sit." Again, he fell in deeper. Both girls cringed together, looked at each other, then yelled out, "RUN FOR IT!!" Laughing, both girls got up and ran away from the creek as fast as their legs could carry them. Unfortunately for them, InuYasha recovered too fast.

"STAY!!! HEEL!!!" He yelled at the top of his lungs. From the effects of running and getting called to stay and heel, both Kane and Mika tumbled down the hill doing summersaults. Mika ended up hitting a tree face first; her arms and legs both wrapped around the trunk. Kane, on the other hand, kept going until she hit the stream. Luckily, she landed face up.

Her big brother stood over her as he smiled. "Good to see you're still in one piece." He gave her a hand and pulled her out of the water single handedly. As Kane tried to squeeze excess water out of her hair and kimono, InuYasha decided to have a little fun with her. He approached her and tackled her to the ground, tickling her the whole way down.

"Hey, what're you doing?!" Kane asked, laughing from her brother's light touches under her armpits…

***

"He let her go. Kagome, I'm sorry about ignoring you over the past day or so; it's just that…"

"Shh…don't worry about it InuYasha. I knew you were concerned for your sister's well being, and I understood." She looked into his eyes. InuYasha embraced her little frame and she encased his own as they shared a quiet hug. She whispered, "Good night." Into his ear, then walked into the hut where Kane slept.

`I guess my assumptions were right; they do love each other.' Kane thought as she fell into a deep, peaceful slumber…

Chapter 10: Sesshomaru vs. Kane-Sakura I

Kane stood her ground, staring down her opponent as she nimbly came closer. "Wrong dog to pick on, demon. You're mine!" Kane charged forward with her claws outstretched. The other demon attacked with her fist straight out.

They were within seconds of impact. Beads of sweat ran down Kane's forehead as she came closer and closer to her opponent. From out of nowhere, a thunderous "Stay!" was heard off in the distance. Kane instantly fell to the ground.

"You forgot one important tactic." InuYasha scowled as he approached Kane's smoldering body. "Keep your eyes open!"

"What?! You thought I was charging with my eyelids closed?!" Her head popped off of the ground.

"No, you didn't see Mika pull out her sword at the last second." Kane looked over at Mika, who was just sheathing Zei. "Had you not taken notice in a real battle, she would've frozen you into a solid ice block. If you had seen that coming, you could've unsheathed Teretsu and blocked her attack."

"All right, I'll remember next time…"

"There might not be a next time! You need to learn these things now!"

"You don't need to yell at me, damn it! I am getting a helluva lot better!"

"But you're not getting stronger fast enough! I want to see more improvement in less time!"

"Is that a challenge? Fine, I'll train by myself to show you that I can do better without your help! And if I've improved enough to your standards, and I beat you in a battle, I want to combat one of your fiercest opponents."

"Agreed! But if I find that your not worthy of my worst adversary, even if you do defeat me, what do I get out of it?"

Kane thought it over, and then blurted out, "Mika will be your slave for a week!"

Mika, who had been calmly watching the two bicker and was relaxing against a tree, suddenly stood straight. "You can't just put me in this like I'm an object to be won!"

"Too bad, I already did." Kane stuck out her tongue at the wolf demon.

"Which foe of mine do you wish to battle?" InuYasha chimed in.

"How about…Sesshomaru! I'll battle your older half-brother, Sesshomaru." Kane stated bravely.

"You'll what?! Are you mad?! He's almost killed me multiple times! And he came this close to stealing Tetsusaiga!" InuYasha indicated with his fingers how close Sesshomaru had come to getting his beloved sword. They almost touched.

"Then I'll just have to train really hard and become better than you." (Note: Kane thinks Sesshomaru is also half-demon like herself and InuYasha. She also has no clue about his powerful sword, Tokijin.)

"You'd never survive! Battle just me instead." InuYasha offered.

"Feh! You'll just go easy on me! I'd probably kick your sorry ass anyway!" Kane boasted.

"Okay, if that's how you see things, go right ahead and train your little ass off! I'd like to see this battle between you and Sesshomaru!"

"Good! Come on Mika, let's go!"

InuYasha leapt in front of Mika and held her back. "Uh-uh! You said by yourself, not you and Mika!"

"I need somebody to train with…"

"Nope." He held his ground. Then Kane smirked.

"Never mind, I know just the place I need to go." Kane dashed towards the Bone-Eater's Well.

As Kane ran towards the well, Mika stopped her dead in her tracks by stepping in front of her. She skidded and stopped just before she actually plowed her over. "Come on, mutt-face. We're gonna train my way."

"Huh? What about my brother?" Kane asked candidly.

"You need special training if you're going to kick Sesshomaru's ass. And working in the wolf den area will help." Mika turned and began to walk away. "Unless you don't want to beat him to a pulp…"

"Okay, I'm coming!" And they raced off to Mika's training spot, her wolf den.

*One week later*

After one week of training, both Kane and Mika felt that she was ready to compete against her older brother. Kane had been given proper training in sword fighting and was now more graceful than ever. In fact, she could sword fight the best wolf demons and actually win and take down a Bird of Paradise. Okay, she couldn't do it easily, but she thought Sesshomaru was only half-demon and not very strong. (Boy was she WRONG!)

As promised, they found InuYasha by the place they had trained one week ago; the Goshinboku. The tree he had been pinned to for fifty years; the tree he had died on. Kane approached gracefully, being sure to watch her every step so she didn't look like a klutz. `I won't let you pull me down,' Kane thought. `Not anymore.'

"Well you look stronger; but can you prove it?" InuYasha unsheathed Tetsusaiga. "In order to battle Sesshomaru, you need to go through me."

"I accept." Kane smirked. "Bring it on."

They stared each other down; the wind ruffled Kane's raven hair just as it did InuYasha's. The tension between the two was greater than any one had ever thought it could be. Neither one of them said anything.

As suddenly as the wind had picked up, InuYasha charged. He jumped and swung Tetsusaiga over his head to launch an attack on Kane. She just stood there, intently listening with her hypersensitive ears. Then, just before InuYasha sliced her in half, Kane dodged the blade with lightning speed. She jumped backwards and leapt into the tree branches above her.

"Whoa; how'd you…?" He surveyed the trees, trying to use his nose to sniff her out. But there were too many other scents and he had no time to sort them all out.

Kane stood directly over InuYasha, waiting ever so patiently for him to lower his guard. Then, once she saw his muscles in his shoulders relax, Kane leapt out of the branch she was in with her hand outstretched and her claws bared. At the last second, he whipped his head around and lunged to the side. Kane sliced the ground with her claws, did a one handed hand spring and alighted benevolently on her feet. She stood up straight; that's when InuYasha saw the glint in her eye.

Kane's Claws of Gold had managed to scratch his face. He wiped away the blood as it trickled down his cheek. "At least you can land on your feet now." He chuckled.

"That's not all I can do." She cracked her knuckles by simply moving them. "I'll prove to you how good I've really become!" Kane attacked again.

InuYasha used his sword as a shield to protect himself from his sister's blows. But she didn't hesitate to keep bringing on the bombshells. After a few hits, she managed to get past Tetsusaiga's barrier and hit InuYasha square in the face. He flew back into the nearby God-Tree.

"Ready to give up or do you still think I can't battle Sesshomaru?" Kane boasted.

InuYasha wiped the blood from his mouth. "There's no way you're ready; I'm still alive."

Kane stepped back in shock. `I have to kill him to prove I'm worthy? But, he's my brother!'

While Kane thought this over, InuYasha stood and charged right at her. He pushed her over into the ground, knocking the wind out of her lungs. "Uhn..!" Kane grunted as he straddled her pinned body.

"Unsheathe Teretsu! Prove to me that you'd be able to battle Sesshomaru and live!" He yelled out loud and strong.

Kane's hand shakily reached for Teretsu, trembling even more as she touched the hilt. `I won't lose to you, but I can't kill you.' Kane thought as Teretsu sailed out of its sheath. `I'm sorry about your injury, but it'll heal quickly.' With a fast, fluid motion, Kane shoved the blade into its new sheath, InuYasha's upper back. It went through his back and through his chest, coming out on the other side near Kane. Luckily, it missed his heart.

"Huh?" Was all that escaped InuYasha's mouth for the puncture had taken his breath away. He slumped to the side as Kane took out Teretsu from his back. She stood up and looked at him as blood soaked into the soil around him. "Kane, please don't go after Sesshomaru. You're not ready!"

Kane turned away from her crippled brother and began to walk away. "Don't underestimate me. I'm stronger than before, strong enough to take you down. I'll spare your life only because you're my older brother. Now, I must find Sesshomaru and prove to you my true potential."

He looked at her as she walked away. Disappearing from sight, he yelled out, "Kane, don't do this!" But she wasn't listening. The shock of his injury was wearing off, and he slowly stood with the help of the tree trunk that he was once pierced to. "KANE!!" He yelled out in desperation.

Kagome and Mika had heard his cries and came through the brush in a hurry. "InuYasha, what's…?" But when she saw his injury, Kagome rushed to his side to steady him; he was becoming more and more disoriented from the blood loss and his breathing was very shallow.

"Well, I see the training paid off for Kane. Where is the mutt-face anyway?" Mika asked casually.

"She went to look for Sesshomaru. She believes she can defeat him in a battle. But she has no idea how to really use Teretsu!" InuYasha leaned against Kagome for support.

"What's there to know? It's a damn sword with a name!" Mika stated. "'Sides, she knows how to sword fight pretty damn well, thanks to me."

"But the sword never transformed into a fang! She has no control over its potential!"

"It transforms?" Mika turned around, suddenly interested.

"It turns into a fang like Tetsusaiga?" Kagome asked hesitantly.

InuYasha managed a nod. "Sort of. I don't really know a lot about it, but it should've transformed if she really knew how to use it." He sighed. "We need to find…"

"No." Mika said flatly. "She needs to prove to you something about herself. She has gotten stronger."

"Don't you get it?! My older half-brother isn't like me!" InuYasha lashed out, but soon recoiled in pain from yelling.

"He's only your half-brother?" Mika interrogated.

"We're all children of our father, but we all have different mothers. Our father was demon."

"That much I know. So that means that you all had different mothers. Was Sesshomaru's mother also human?"

"No, she was also demon. My older half-brother is a full fledged demon. Not only that, he has a very powerful sword called Tokijin. He's almost killed me with it before by mere sword pressure!"

"Why didn't you tell her this before, you dumb ass!?" Mika asked furiously.

"I tried to!" He spat. "But she left while I attempted to tell her!"

"Then why didn't you tell me?!" Mika argued.

"I figured you were smart so I thought I didn't need to. Guess I was wrong."

"SIT!!" Mika yelled after her temper rose.

"HEEL!! Damn wolf that hurt!" InuYasha held his wound once he could sit up again. Mika groaned in pain from her own command.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`

Kane took a good whiff of the air around her as she ran through the forest. "Sesshomaru is InuYasha's half-brother, so they should smell similar." Kane gained speed once she caught whiff of his scent. It felt cool in the shade, and Kane had pretty much gone barefoot for the past week (only because Mika had made her wolf minions chew up all of her shoes) and the soil felt pretty good. Still, she wished she could have her shoes back.

Meanwhile, up ahead, the scent of InuYasha's older brother grew stronger. `Sesshomaru, I come to bid you good bye. You'll be the proof of my strength.' Kane said in her head.

She came into a clearing with tall grass and plenty of wild flowers. In the middle of it was a weird demon with two heads. It looked like a combination of a horse and dragon, but she wasn't sure which one was more emphasized. She spotted a young girl playing in the flowers, being careful not to stray too far from this two-headed, scaly creature. Even though he was nowhere to be seen, Sesshomaru's scent was heavy in the air. "Little girl, do you know of Sesshomaru?" Kane asked the vivacious little kid.

"Oh, Sesshomaru-sama? He isn't here, he went to find InuYasha's little sister. He might be back in a little while, so you could come back later." She said without looking up at Kane.

`He's looking for me? That's a coincidence.' Kane said to herself. `Kinda weird all the same. I wonder why he's…" Kane's train of thought flew from her when Sesshomaru's scent suddenly became stronger from behind her. "So, you've shown yourself, eh?" A deep voice resounded behind her and she whirled around to face it head on. A tall man with long, flowing white hair was staring at her with amber colored pools that were as cold as ice. He had purple stripes on his face and a crescent moon atop his forehead. His white garment was similar to InuYasha's, but he had this weird armor on his chest and he had red and white designs on the sleeves. He carried two swords at his hip; one in a sheath, the other out in the open.

"Sesshomaru, I presume?" Kane didn't bow like she normally did when she met someone else.

"Kane-Sakura, my little half-sister, why are you alive?" He asked plainly.

"Little half-sister? I have no relation to you; it's you and InuYasha who are siblings."

"I and he, that little half-breed, are related through our great father. And were you not also born of our father and your own wench of a mother?"

"Well, yeah; now that you mention it." Kane said quietly.

"That makes us blood relatives." He took out his unsheathed sword. "I no longer desire to kill my little brother, for we were sons of our father. You are the only daughter, thus why you must die."

"Just because I'm a girl I have to die?! Talk about being prejudiced!" Kane fumed.

"You're a half-breed wench. Our father never cared about you. It was InuYasha who cared since he has a soft-spot for other half-demons like himself and humans." He raised his sword above his head.

"That's not true!" Kane unsheathed Teretsu. "This is from our father to me; it's proof he really did care for me!"

Without another word, Sesshomaru brought his sword down. Kane kept Teretsu up in defense, being careful to keep her guard up. If she let her eyes wander and her thoughts stray, she'd be sashimi on a stick for sure! They sword fought for what felt and eternity to Kane. Both of them were leaping, dodging the other's blows. It was an equal match; or so Kane thought. After gaining one blow on Sesshomaru, he turned it up a notch or two. And the notches were way past Kane's level. Soon his speed was so great, he was nothing but a blur. Kane defended herself from most of the major hits. He attacked from every angle.

`I can't move from my spot! One wrong step and he'll slice me into mince meat!' Kane began to panic. Then from behind her, he used the mere pressure of his sword to send her flying into a nearby tree. Kane slowly regained her posture as she stood to continue battling.

"Rin, away from here." She bowed slightly, and then jumped onto the dragon horse. It flew into the sky as gracefully as a fairy.

"Sesshomaru, you may be older, but you're still a half-demon like me. It's an even match." Kane boasted.

He was upon her in less than a second and was holding Kane by the neck against the tree. Her feet dangled off of the ground by at least a foot. "Don't confuse me to be only a half-breed. You are looking at a full-fledged demon."

`A full demon?!' Kane mentally gasped.

Phew! (Wipes off forehead) I wrote all this in only a couple hours! I guess my new InuYasha movie soundtracks gave me the energy to get this all done before Friday. I just got them on Monday. I have all three movie soundtracks and they are awesome. Perfect for writing InuYasha fics by. BTW, I heard that the first InuYasha movie is coming out in the United States in English in September. If anybody who reads this has any information about this movie and if it really is coming out then, please e-mail me at kane_sakura@yahoo.com. And remember, write reviews!
