Last time on The Hanyou's Little Sister
`Oh boy, here we go.' Kane gulped. `I hope I know what I'm doing.' She closed her eyes and sniffed the air around her. `There's a path of some kind in front of me. If I cut along it, what will happen?' Kane opened her eyes again and actually saw the path of the blade before her. `That's it!' Kane parted her legs so they stood shoulder width apart, then took her sword in both hands. She raised the sword so the hilt was right by her face and the blade itself was pointed toward the ground in a diagonal line. Watching the path with pure focus, she charged forward at the transforming demon before her. Once she was close enough to the path, she fluidly sliced the air ahead of her, right through the path, creating some sort of shape in front of her. It was like opening a portal of some kind, and once it was open, a torrent of white, glittering diamonds flowed out in a giant river and into Sesshomaru. Kane's attack was so powerful, that the force of it pushed her back, sending her flying into a tree. "Hoooolllyyy sshhiiitt!!!!"…

"Have any good confrontations lately?'
"You bet! I met my older brother and gave him the one-two punch!" Kane punched at the air like she was striking an object in the vicinity. "And all I got out of it was this scratch on my hand."
"Cool." A momentary, uncomfortable pause passed between the two demons. "Any more about Trowa?"
"Huh? Oh, him! Yeah, we're supposed to get married soon! He's a really great guy." Kane sighed with affection.
A look of hurt crossed his face so fast, it was almost left unnoticed by Mika, but he covered it with a smile. "Are you looking forward to it?"
"I guess I am! He let me come back, but he'll return to get me when preparations are met."
"I have to go. A demon like me has a lot to do." As suddenly as the conversation had started, it was done. He turned his back to Kane and said, "See ya later."
Once he was gone, Mika, who was now standing, hit her on the head with her fist. "Are you deaf as well as blind?! Or is there really nothing in that thick skull of yours!"…

"Stupid wolf left. We'll have to go on without." Kane compiled.
"Why'd she leave?" Kagome asked, even though she already knew the reason.
"Because she thinks I'm a whiner! I'm going to sleep!" She grabbed her sleeping bag and stomped outside. "Good night every one!" And she left the hut without another word….

Chapter 12: The Return
The following morning, Kane awoke soaked to the bone in rain. She had picked the worst night to sleep outside; she regretted it. `Of all the nights I decide to sleep out doors, it has to pour.' She thought as she shook out her sleeping bag. `Even the trees didn't help.'
When Kane walked into the hut, she felt a wave a sweet, warm relief from the fire Kaeda had built that morning. She shivered as she said, "Good-d morn-ning."
Noticing her dilemma, Kagome brought a towel from her back pack and handed it to Kane. "You slept out in the rain?"
"Yeah, I…A-CHOO!!!" Her giant sneeze landed her right on her ass as she shivered from the cold.
"Keh! Serves you right! Even my nose could tell that it was going to rain." InuYasha boasted as he leaned back against the wall with the only window. Thunder rattled the floor boards after he finished.
"Quite a serious tone there bro; thunder added a nice touch." Kane sniffled.
"How is your hand this morning Kane-Sakura?" Kaeda asked, pointing at her left hand.
"It doesn't hurt anymore. Wanna see?" Kane held her hand out to Kaeda as she sat next to her. She began to unwrap the bandages and when she came to the last layer, she gasped in shock.
"What is it?!" Kane pulled her hand away from the old miko and inspected it herself. She too breathed in sharply when she saw the damage of the battle. "Oh my god! There's a scar on my hand!" Kane shrieked.
Where there had once been the three cuts that bled bitterly there now were three red marks in the shape of talons that got bigger at the base by her thumb and wrist. They were blood red and from right to left, each one was bigger than the last, corresponding with the middle finger, the ring finger, and the pinky of Sesshomaru's right hand.
"It appears that your body was somewhat affected by Sesshomaru's poison. Your skin must've absorbed it and made it into a scar." Kaeda explained to the frightened dog demon.
Kane poked at the red marks. "Will these ever go away?" She asked nervously.
"The poison wasn't extracted soon enough. That scar will always be with you."
Kane's glittering pools of amber looked away from Kaeda to her hand. `Sesshomaru's Mark of Anger and Hatred; I'll call my scar that.' She said silently.
By late morning it was still raining, so Kagome decided to head home. Kane had fallen asleep in the corner and she and InuYasha were talking to each other. "Since we can't do anything today because to of the rain, I'm gonna go home for a while. I have a big test to study for this next week." She whispered.
"How soon will you be back?" InuYasha interrogated.
"I'll only be gone for about three days…"
Kane suddenly interrupted their conversation when she had heard that Kagome was going home. "Can I come along?! Please; I promise I won't get in the way!"
"Kane, you're already too…" InuYasha began.
"Come on! Just for three days! I'll come back with Kagome, I swear!" Kane got on her hands and knees and bowed towards her brother. "Pleeeeaaaase!!!"
"Let her come with me, InuYasha. She used to live in the same era as me and might need a taste of the culture she once knew as her own." Kagome whispered into InuYasha's ear. "She can train when she comes back."
"Fine, as long as…"
"YAHOOO!!!!" Kane yelled out in triumph. "I'm gonna go up to the shrine to change into some proper attire for the future. Don't leave without me!" She grabbed some clothes that she had brought from the future and ran out towards the shrine at the top of the steps behind Kaeda's hut.
"Maybe you should come along too; what harm could there be?" Kagome suggested to InuYasha.
"No thank you. I think Kane needs some time away from me and I from her."
"Okay, your choice." Kagome moved towards the window and yelled out of it, "Mika, would you rather come instead?"
Mika's head suddenly appeared upside down to look into the hut from the roof. Her hair swayed back and forth from a top her head as she questioned, "How'd you know I was here?"
"He smelled you up there earlier." She pointed at the scowling hanyou that sulked in the corner. "Wouldn't you rather come inside where it's warm and dry?"
"Why'd Kane leave?" Mika landed in the hut with grace. "She seemed to be in a rush."
"We're going to my home in the future, or present as I know it."
"And how are you planning on getting there?" Mika's brow furrowed in confusion.
Kagome pointed towards InuYasha's forest. "The Bone-Eater's Well in that forest. I'll show you how it works if you want to come along. You and Kane can share the guest bedroom across from my room."
"Me and Kane share a room? You really don't know me that well, do you?" Mika laughed. "She'd probably be dead by morning!"
"Kagome, tell me again how long you're going to be in the future?" InuYasha asked.
"Three days; why?"
"Why does it take you three days to study for something?"
"Now that Kane's coming along, I thought I'd let her go shopping and get her registered into my high school; that can't all be done in one day. And this test requires lots and lots of studying."
"And what does she need to be `registered' for?"
Kane came in from behind. "Because this isn't going to be the last time I go to the future; I want an education."
"What's the deal with the funny new clothes?" Mika sneered.
"And what's the deal with the old wolf wear?" Kane asked Mika as she threw a pair of jeans and a t-shirt at her. "Put these on if you're coming; you'll look unfashionable in my era if you don't, not to mention weird."
"Look who's talking." Mika and InuYasha replied.
"SIT!! HEEL!!" Both went flying face first into the ground. "This just so happens to be my favorite outfit." And how could it not be. She wore her favorite pair of dark blue jeans with a white pair of tennis. Her top was a beautiful white flowing hippie top that only came down to her naval. "I think the necklace even compliments it." She touched the necklace with her fingers.
"Hurry up; the day is almost over and I need to get you two settled." Kagome said impatiently.
"I'm coming too I guess." InuYasha said reluctantly.
"Why the change of heart?" Kagome inquired.
"Because I'll get bored with nobody to pick on." He stated flatly.
"Hey; leave me out of your reason!" Kane protested.
After an hour of arguing, the group finally arrived at the well. Mika and Kagome went first. I watched as they disappeared in a bright blue flash of light. "Ready, bro?" Kane asked excitedly.
He sighed heavily. "Sure; let's go." He grabbed her arm and jumped through time.

The day had pretty much been spent by the time the whole group arrived in the future, and the sun had set, so everybody went directly to their rooms. The weather wasn't so wet in the future and there wasn't a cloud in the starry sky. Kane and Mika settled in the guest bedroom while her brother stayed in Kagome's room across the hall. Mika looked at the door like she could see through it. "Do you think they do anything in there?" Mika shifted uncomfortably in the desk chair.
"I doubt it; my brother's too thickheaded to get the picture. Plus, I don't think Kagome is interested in that way yet." She looked over at Mika who was fingering the straps of her spaghetti strap p.j. top. "Something the matter?"
"These articles of clothing are quite itchy. Do I have to wear them?" Mika scratched at her belly and around her chest; pretty much where ever cotton touched her skin. Her shorts also seemed to be of great interest to her hands since she was always pulling them further down her thighs. I guess you could say she was no more itchy than she was embarrassed. Her style didn't include these skimpy pajamas.
"Yes; unless you'd like my brother to come in here and see you lying on the sleeping bag naked." Kane indicated.
"But they're so…they have almost nothing on them."
"Yeah so?" Kane was wearing a similar pair of p.j.'s and she had purposely pulled the shorts up a little higher and her tank top made her bust more apparent than Mika's.
"How can you stand to wear such things? It feels like I'm wearing almost nothing."
"It'll be better tomorrow. You only sleep in these." Kane collapsed on the bed in pure bliss. `It feels like I haven't slept in a real bed in forever.' Kane stretched her hands up to the ceiling and laced her fingers together to crack her knuckles at the top of the elongation. Then she noticed her scar again. "Sesshomaru's Mark of Anger and Hatred." She whispered.
"What did you say?" Mika asked as she unfurled her sleeping bag.
"Nothing, I'm just talking to myself."
"I think you should really get that checked out."
Kane climbed under the cool sheets. "Shut up; I'm going to sleep." She turned out the lights and rolled onto her left side, facing the wall. But after settling into the covers, Kane's ears twitched when she heard some weird noises coming from the ground where Mika lay. She sat up and turned on the light again.
Now, Mika's reason for all the noise was quite complicated yet simple at the same time. She had delved deep into her sleeping bag, head first. She was wriggling to try and get out so she could breathe again. "Kane, how do you sleep in these things!? I can't move or get any fresh air and it's really hot it here! My feet are cold!" She complained.
`And she calls me the ditz.' Kane sighed heavily. "Hold on; I'll help you out." Kane got out of her comforter and pulled the zipper to let Mika out.
Mika gasped a few times to catch her breath before saying, "Man, how do you expect me to sleep in this?!"
"Easy. Put your feet in first, with your head sticking out the non-zippered end and zipper up." Mika diligently did as she was told and finally settled down.
"Now get some sleep." Kane lazily reached for the lamp and turned it off. She rolled back onto her left side and closed her eyes.
The fact was that Mika became so comfortable in her sleeping bag that she soon started snoring, loudly. "Mika, roll over to…" But her snoring drowned out Kane's whisper. All she could do was put her pillow over her sensitive dog ears and pretend she couldn't hear Mika's snoring.
~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`
The next morning, after getting almost no sleep (compliments of Mika the Dozer), Kane awoke to Mika finally shutting up. Mika's method of keeping the dog awake almost all night had consisted not only of snoring, but of tossing and turning, getting up once to use the bathroom, even talking in her sleep.
"Man, what a good night's rest. You sleep all right?" Mika looked up at Kane. Her red eyes, rat's nest, and groggy, "You think?" told her Kane had not slept well at all, but she ignored it. "Well, I haven't slept this good in a long time. This sleeping bag is quite comfy."
"So I noticed." Kane flopped back down and instantly fell asleep.
"Hey wake up!" Mika kicked the bed into the wall, making Kane jump out of bed (literally). The bed was pushed so hard, it slid out from under Kane after hitting the wall and Kane landed on the floor with a giant thud!
"Mika, I was trying to sleep! Your snoring kept me up most of the night!" Kane shivered in the room temperature air.
"But there's so much for us to do today!" Mika dug through Kane's clothes and took out the last pair of clean jeans.
Kane sighed heavily. "Mika, it feels too…" A knock interrupted Kane's protest.
"Mika, Kane; time to get up. We need to register you into school Kane." Kagome said through the door.
"Okay! Come on Kane, you heard her!" Mika threw on her clothes; Kane's jeans and a tank top. They had been Kane's last pair of clean clothes.
"Kagome! Can I borrow some clothes?!" She yelled down the stairs.
"Sure! Go pick something out!" She replied.
Kane clambered over to Kagome's room and rummaged through the closet. Most of the things in her wardrobe were too small on her chest or too big on her legs. After finding a pair of small jeans and a big t-shirt, Kane waltzed into her bedroom to change. But no sooner had she taken off her top did her brother come barging in on her to tell her that breakfast was ready.
"Don't you know how to knock!?" She screamed as she covered her chest.
"I, uh, what I mean is…"
"SIT!!" She didn't let him finish. Soon after he'd been smooshed into the floor, he was pushed into the hall. "Next time, say it through the door!" She slammed the door into his face.
Kane finally came downstairs after dressing and primping. "Ohayo." She sat in front of a warm plate of eggs on the kitchen table.
Kagome's mom handed her the salt and pepper. "Did you sleep well?"
"I would've if Mika hadn't decided to have a snore fest last night."
Mika smiled. "My pleasure."
After breakfast, everyone (except for InuYasha) left the house to register Kane into school and to drop Kagome off. "My mom will do the paper work; I'll pick up your uniform after school today." Kagome ran into school as the rest of the group walked calmly into the building.
"If you girls want, you can go look around the perimeter." She walked into the office as the two demons casually walked around the school.
"So this is a school. What d'ya do here?" Mika asked as she inspected the water fountain.
Kane pulled her away from the bubbler. "We get taught things like math, science, language, music…"
"Music? I can do music!" Mika pulled out her flute.
"You play?"
"Yep, like a pro." And she softly began to play a melody on it.
"Beautiful. I have another…" Then they came to the chorus room. "Ah, here it is!" Running ahead of Mika, she dashed into the giant, sound reverberating room.
"What's so great about this room?" Mika seemed unimpressed with the chorus room.
"This is where I play my instrument, my voice." Kane beamed proudly.
Mika scratched her head in confusion. "How can you play your voice?" Before Kane could answer her question, the vocal teacher came out of his office.
"Hello, are you two new here?" The girls turned around and stared up at a tall, black haired man with brown eyes that gleamed with a passion for music. He looked fairly young, maybe in his late twenties to early thirties.
"Oh yes, I am. She's just visiting with me, but I'll be starting here soon. I'm Kane-Sakura." She bowed in respect, but he reached his hand out to shake hers. She responded with her own hand in his.
"Are you going to be in chorus?"
"You bet! At my old school, chorus was my ultimate favorite class."
"If you want to, you could stay for the class today. It'll be starting in a few minutes."
"I'd love to!" Kane smiled and looked back at Mika. "Is that all right with you Mika?"
"Sure; why not. I'd like to see how you play your voice anyway."
The two girls sat in the risers, talking over certain issues until Kane dozed off in one of the chairs. As she slept, Mika stood and examined the room. Not much later, the end of the hour bell rang. It was such a surprise for Kane that she jumped up into the ceiling. Her head got caught in a hole that her jump into the ceiling had created.
"Mika, help!" Kane squirmed and wiggled on the ceiling.
"Ha ha ha!! You're…"
"Go pull the fire alarm! It's the red handle by the door!" Kane screamed.
Mika obeyed, running over to the door and flipping the switch. She ducked behind the risers while the teacher ran out of the building.
"Is the coast clear?" Kane yelled.
Mika leapt into the air, controlling her descent. "Yes it's empty." She bounced up again. "How can I be of assistance?" She giggled.
"Stop making wise cracks and get me down from here!" Kane yelled, using her own two hands to try and push her head out of the hole. "Pull me out; push me up; anything so I don't get caught!"
"Which do you prefer?"
"Get me out of here!"
"If I push you up there, perhaps I could stay after…" As she slowly descended, Kane's body flew past her, screaming at the top of her lungs. The impact fashioned a giant depression in the cement floor. "Oh shit, this is gonna hurt!" Mika prepared herself for a total face plant.
Kane glared up at the slow descending wolf. "HEEL!" She created her own bowl in the cement next to Kane.
They stood together and turned off the fire alarm. Mika rubbed her nose. "What is this floor made of anyway?"
"It's a substance a lot harder than dirt; it's cement." Kane massaged her head. "And we put a dent in it."
"Should we leave?"
"Yes, we should." They walked up to the office to meet Mrs. Higurashi again.
She saw the sad shape the girls were in and asked, "What happened to you two?"
They pointed at each other. "Her." Kane and Mika said simultaneously.
"Um, well, Kane's all registered into school now, so if you feel up to it, you can both go shopping…"
Kane instantly lit up on the word `shopping'. "What are we waiting for?! Let's go!"
