Chapter 18: Back to Feudal Era
"Kagome, there is something different about Sesshoumaru…" Inuyasha whispered staring at his half brother who sat next to Sakura near the river a distant from them.
"He is considering awfully nice to everyone," Kagome said uncaringly as she continued to make the ramen for everyone.
They had gone back through the well early in the morning before Kagome's family return to avoid any questions. They sat at the around Kaede's village lazing around before they start on shard hunting again. Miroku and Sango were sitting together outside Kaede's wooden house talking intently. Everything seemed really normal except Sesshoumaru attitude towards all of them was slightly different. From the way he acted he no longer wanted tetsaiga from Inuyasha and he no longer, shout the word `DIE'.
"I mean besides his attitude, there is something else…" Inuyasha said looking at his half brother intently. "What is it?"
Kagome looked up from the pot and looked at Sesshoumaru too. At that time Sesshoumaru raised his left hand up to point at something across the river as he spoke to Sakura. Kagome blinked, left arm? She rubbed her eyes and looked again wondering whether she was dreaming. That left arm was still there, she clutched Inuyasha's sleeves.
"His arm!" Kagome exclaimed. "His left arm!!!! How, when…"
Inuyasha then realized that was the different.
"I told you he seemed different." Inuyasha said. "But how did his left arm grow back again?"
"Sakura had something to do with this…" Kagome said wonderingly. "I am sure of it…"
"But how did Sakura has such power?" Inuyasha asked.
"I don't know, I'll have to ask her…"
Sesshoumaru looked around the peaceful village has human male did labour jobs in the fields and human female washing clothes by the river that morning. Everyone seemed really friendly with one another as they carried on their own task, greeting each other as the passed. Sesshoumaru had never been to human village before and their attitudes intrigued him.
"What are those humans doing?" Sesshoumaru pointed across the river as the human males stood in a large field filled with water up to their knees as some bent over what look like planting and some pushing a big black bull across the field.
"That is a rice field; humans grow rice so they have food to eat…" Sakura answered.
Sesshoumaru turned his attention back to those humans again, when suddenly a loud `WHACK' was heard behind them, he turned to look at the monk who had a red mark of five fingers on his face and a very red and fuming face girl next to him. He blinked watching them curiously before he turned away. He turned to look at Sakura who took no heed to the occurrence, he then looked over to Kagome and Inuyasha who didn't seemed care what was happening either as they continued cooking.
"Miroku has a very lusty attitude…" Sakura explained looking straight ahead with a slight smile on her face. "Kagome told me so much about her friends, by now I think I know them by heart. Miroku loves to grab any girls butt and his famous phrase is, `Could you bare my child?'…" Sakura imitated his voice. "I was so shock when the first time I met him and he asked me that…"
"He asked you what?" Sesshoumaru roared.
"He said that to every girl…" Sakura turned wide eyed at Sesshoumaru's furious expression. "So there is nothing to take him seriously about."
"Sango is a youkai exterminator…" Sakura continued softly after Sesshoumaru calmed down. "Her tribe was wiped put by Naraku, Kagome and Inuyasha have a duty to collect the Shikon no Tama that they had broken… I heard that you are after Naraku too, may I know why?"
Sesshoumaru remained silent for moment as he stared in front of him expressionlessly.
"Is Naraku the main recent you never go home to your palace?" Sakura asked another question when Sesshoumaru continued to remain quiet.
After almost a few minutes passed Sesshoumaru finally spoke.
"I hadn't gone home for almost two hundred years…"
"Two hundred…" Sakura splattered staring at Sesshoumaru disbelievingly. "Why?"
"After the death of my father, I left…" Sesshoumaru said tonelessly. "To search for an answer…"
Sakura watched Sesshoumaru's expressionless face change livid then and she quirked her eyebrows curiously as she waited patiently for Sesshoumaru to continue with his story.
"I came across Jakken, after one hundred of wondering…" Sesshoumaru continued after a short pause. "He was very willing to follow me for life, and I let him…"
"What are your searching for Sesshoumaru-sama?" Sakura asked quietly.
"Tetsaiga, jijiwei's fangs…"
He was looking for that sword for the pass two hundred years? Sakura thought flabbergasted.
"Besides that, I was also searching for reasons why jijiwei gave me tensaiga…"
"Tensaiga?" Sakura wondered out loud, she had heard of that sword before from Kagome but had never seen Sesshoumaru used it before.
"It is a sword that cannot kill," Sesshoumaru's voice lowered menacingly. "I have no idea why he gave me such a useless sword…"
"What can it do?" Sakura whispered watching Sesshoumaru's furious expression wearily.
"It is a healing sword that can revive the dead…"
That was when Rin's voice came back to Sakura's head. `I was killed a pack of wolves, and Sesshoumaru-sama brought me back to life!'
So it is true… Sakura thought silently.
"If only I could understand jijiwei and how he care for humans…" Sesshoumaru said. "He took a human wench for his mate after my mother died and I still couldn't understand why he could take in such helpless creature…"
"I was told that you are a heartless youkai you kill anyone that crosses your way…" Sakura said looking away from Sesshoumaru so that he couldn't see the hurt expression on her face when he talked about humans that way. If he said that he hated humans, what did it mean when he hold her close in her room the night before? Didn't he feel anything for her? Sakura's heart hurt really badly as she continued. "Kagome told me that Tetsaiga is a sword that can kill thousands of lives at one swing and Tensaiga could save life…"
"What are you trying to tell me?" Sesshoumaru asked turning to look at Sakura who had her eyes covered behind her fridge as she looked down the ground.
Sesshoumaru could the corner of Sakura's mouth curved slightly into a dainty smile.
"Don't you think your father is trying to tell you not to kill so much?" Sakura asked in returned. "You took others life without giving a second thought. Your father probably wanted you to learn to have mercy for others, something I think you never took any heed too."
Sesshoumaru remained silent watching Sakura; her head was still bowed and her eyes still hidden in the shadows behind her fridge. Slowly, he reached over to Sakura, touching her chin lightly and tilted her face up to see her pain expression. His face softened as he looked at her.
Why is she looking as if something is hurting her? Sesshoumaru thought miserably to see her anguished expression though he remained indifferent as he stared into her eyes.
"We maybe helpless to you," Sakura whispered as she stared painfully into his golden eyes. "But we humans, strive to live everyday, going through pain, worries, labour, happiness and above all love… without love in this world, we humans cannot live happily… we may be stronger than you think. Look at those men who work at the fields today. They work so hard to get food on their tables everyday and just by working hard they will go home and their family will greet them happily with love and thinking of their families made them live on and go on with life no matter how difficult it is. I guess this is something you can never understand…"
Sakura moved her chin away from his touch and looked straight ahead of her face suddenly void from all expression as she pressed down the feeling of dread in her heart. There was no way she could make Sesshoumaru understand what human love was. She was starting to believe that he may want her around and want her to be close to him but he can never truly love her. Just thinking about that made her heart ached so badly she thought she rather go back home and never come back again though she knew she didn't have a home that truly belongs to her. When her whole family died in the fire how she wished that she could have been there with them too. At least she didn't have to go home and couldn't see her family again. However her thoughts were interrupted when Kagome called to everyone.
"Food is ready!"
Sakura stood up then and walked away without any more words said. Sesshoumaru watched her walking over to Kagome and her friends silently pondering on what she had just said. Love? It was true he had no idea what that word meant. If only he could find out what it actually mean to bring Sakura's smile back.

"Looks like they are back…" Naraku said as he watched the whole group eating ramen together happily and Sesshoumaru still remained near the river looking at the men working in the fields. "Have you got Xiaran, Kagura?"
"She is waiting for you…" Kagura said. "But I doubt she would want to do anything to depress Sesshoumaru anymore…"
"Well, she will love this task when I told her want to do." Naraku said with a smirk. "Bring her in, I'll tell her exactly what she need to do. I am sure that, Xiaran will have Sesshoumaru all to herself then…"
Kagura sighed inwardly as she went out to get Xiaran. She was getting tired of working for Naraku, she and Kanna felt like a toy that belongs to Naraku because he kept their hearts and they have to obey him no matter what. If only they could escape, but it was an impossible mission.
It is better to listen to him for now, Kagura thought silently as she went out the room to fetch Xiaran. I cannot risk my life for now… if only Naraku is dead…

For Laugh
Ray: (Almost freak when Kanna, Kagura and Naraku came) Kanna point your mirror somewhere else.
Kanna: Don't worry it won't suck your soul until I want to…
Ray: (Pushed the mirror away from her view) Still, it gives me the creeps.
Naraku: Why so scared? Kanna is not going to hurt you.
Kagura: Che, you should be more frightened of him…
Naraku: And what is that suppose to mean?
Ray: Well, I guess… *Sigh wearily* I'm tired… I'm going to take a break…
Naraku: (Towered over her) You better get on with your work!
Ray: (Yawn) I can't keep my eyes opened…
She lay down on the desk as if she had fallen asleep. Naraku and Kagura turned around to see Kanna pointing her mirror at Ray.
Naraku & Kagura: KANNA!!!!
Kanna: Opps!
