Author’s Note: You know how you really want to write the next chapter for the story, you know where you want to go with the story and you’re dying to write a certain scene but you know you can’t yet…cause you have to get through this chapter first…but you just don’t know how to start it…Well, that’s how I’m feeling. But I thank all of my faithful readers for keeping this story going because honestly, it’s hard to keep writing a story when you don’t get any reviews for it. We all just like to know that people read our stories. And now, to a few of you who mentioned this, I am TERRIBLY sorry for the “double” Sango bit. I didn’t go back and read the 2nd chapter before I started writing again. I’m so sorry for messing that bit up. But I’m not going to go back and re-write it so we’re just going to have to go along with it. Ignore the part in Chapter Two where it mentions Sango…We’ll just “pretend” that this is Sango’s and Miroku’s first meeting.

Chapter Nine

“What’s wrong with you?” Kagome whispered, holding the Jewel in her hand. She didn’t understand it. The Jewel still held that warm glow, that warm glow that suffused her hand where she held it. It had always been hard and cold before, though still powerful. She didn’t have anyone to go to for answers. Her Grandfather had died years ago and her Mother didn’t know where Demon’s were concerned. She didn’t doubt that a few certain Demons’ would know the cause…but she didn’t want to go public with this.

She pressed the Jewel against the center of chest, the feel of the smooth Jewel muted by silk. She concentrated, dimming the power radiating out from the Jewel with an overlay of her own spiritual energy. Inuyasha had—

The Jewel gave a burst of vibrating heat against her palm. “Stop that.” Kagome whispered, as if that would help. Inuyasha had warned her, well, he’d suggested she leave the Jewel in a safe place. Not on her person. She wasn’t going to leave the Jewel alone. She could have erected a barrier around her condo, selected a few select Sutra’s but she felt better knowing she had the Jewel.

She went over the papers in her hand, over Sesshomaru and Inuyasha’s sprawled signatures—

She could feel the rush of energy in the Jewel butting up against her own spiritual energy and she swore her own energy rose up to it before she pressed her palm against the Jewel. “Stop that.” She whispered again.

She drew the labels of her designer jacket closer together as she stepped through the barrier containing the large, looming building that was the Court. Instantly she could feel the Demonic aura of countless Demons.

“Do you have everything? That son of a bitch will be here soon. If I never had to see him again for the rest of my life—“

“Yes, Kagura.” Kagome cut the Wind Demon off smoothly, following one of the Guards into the large, dark adorned room. She was tempted to remind Kagura that she’d have to deal with Sesshomaru for the next eight-teen years. She was beginning to understand Kagura, how her mind worked. “I have everything we need, everything planned out. Let me do the talking if the Judge sees any need for talk.” Which she highly doubted.

The room was by far larger than any Court Room she’d been in. The walls were pitch black—how fitting—with red lining the moldings. She barely noticed that though. What she did notice five minutes later was the Judge when she slowly shimmered into appearance.

“All rise for the Judge…”

What she did notice was how Kanna stood out against the black. Pale. White. So innocent.

Kagome knew better.

Those eyes were void and the round mirror she held in her hands was a reflection of the room. She’d never met a Demon like her before; her aura was a blank expression like her face. She remembered what Inuyasha had said about her; the mirror. She watched as first Sesshomaru and then Kagura took the stand before Kanna, staring into the mirror. That was all? She saw the images, vague but they didn’t make any sense to her. Sesshomaru turning into his Demon form—incredible. Kagura, looking so sweet and peaceful as she held Rin. Those images meant nothing to her, they held no significance to her so she didn’t know what they meant. Inuyasha was next.

He wore a finely tailored grey suit, his long silvery hair tied at his nap. He looked professional, sleek—even more so than the others. His reflection made even less since. It was him, but his eyes were blood shot as he spoke with…someone. She felt that tingle warning against the base of her chest and pressed her hand against it. Something nagged at her, every time she thought of…

“Kagome Higurashi.” That smooth, void voice called her name and she stood. She passed Inuyasha as she made her way towards the Mirror Demon, his shoulder brushing hers. The mirror was a vague image of her reflection. She didn’t know what she was supposed to see.

“Interesting, Kagome Higurashi…”

Kagome lifted her eyes at that, her brows furrowing at Kanna’s emotionless expression, her vague words. Kanna stared at her, the look in her eyes unreadable. As if she were seeing something that Kagome did not. Was she amused? Or shocked? The image in the reflection twisted then, the watery like substance forming into a grey mist and then she saw…

She held the Jewel in her hands, the power vibrant for all to see…

Kagome could hear the whispers start. They definitely knew what she was now. But then the image started to fade—but not away. Silver streaked across the smooth mirrored middle, forming the reflection of…

Her hands slid over the muscled back, her nails digging into his skin. Her hair was like black satin spread across the pillow as the body above her moved. The expression on her face was one of hot intensity, pleasure, before her hands moved up, twisting in the silvery strands…

The image started to fade, her reflection staring back at her again. What…No. Kagome was never one to blush but she could feel the heat rushing into her cheeks. She wasn’t naïve; she knew what she’d seen. But that hadn’t been in her past and certainly not in her present.

“…her Mirror will show something significant of each Candidate that has an importance.”

Those words came back. She remembered what Inuyasha had said about the mirror. Just as she knew without a doubt who that body above hers had belonged to.

Author’s Note: I know this is a short chapter but please forgive me. I wanted to keep writing but at the same time I wanted to get another chapter posted. Yet at the same time…I wanted to leave it hanging right there…Just leave us all thinking what Kagome’s thinking… “WHAT THE FUCK?” She’s shocked. She’s confused. She doesn’t know what to think. The only thing she is sure of is that that had been Inuyasha—and they’d definitely been having sex. –Grins- And remember what Inuyasha said… “Her mirror will show the truth.”
