Chapter Nine
Oh, no. No, no, no—not fucking yet. Inuyasha silently cursed as Kagome turned , making her way back to Kagura. He’d seen that damned mirror. Everyone had seen that damned mirror. He’d seen what was reflected back at her. How was he supposed to explain that to her?“Well, now you know I’m going to jump you, so why don’t we just get to it?”
No, that would end up with him purified and on his ass. He really didn’t like being purified, not even those small purifying touches of hers. It was a little uncomfortable, to say the least. Because everyone in that Court Room knew what was going to go down between them. And Kanna, damn her, she knew Kagome was his Mate. White-ass Demon was amused.
“You and dog boy have something going on?” Kagura asked, her voice low.
Kagome shook her head, no hesitation in her voice whatsoever. “No.” Maybe that had been a little too fast. There was nothing between Inuyasha and her. She composed herself, pushing down those wayward emotions that were pushing to the surface. That image had been unsettling. It wasn’t everyday that you saw yourself, well kinda, engaging in some hot as hell sex.
She certainly wasn’t planning on engaging in said sex.
It all went downhill from there.
Kagura had been called out on her cheating and the Judge had sum sized that up. Sesshomaru had every right to accuse her of Adultery.
“I told you and if you’d just listen and get your head out of your ass—“ Kagura braced her hands against the polished wooden table stop, staring at Sesshomaru with heated eyes. “—you’d see that. I didn’t—“ It seemed that Kagura was done with arguing, at least on her part. Kagome watched as Kagura jerked out a small feather and swung her arm towards Sesshomaru. The feather twisted in midair, growing sharp and paper thin. Sesshomaru muttered something beneath his breath—why wasn’t Kanna stopping this—and his hand snaked forward, long neon green lights flashing as they spewed from his fingers. Razor sharp.
“Oh my God—“ Kagome felt a strong hand circle her arm before jerking her back against the wooden gate behind her, half beneath the table. She jumped as she heard the lash of Sesshomaru’s lazor like nails swipe through Kagura’s chair.
It broke in half.
She jerked her head to the side to see Inuyasha grinning. “How did you—“ How had he gotten over here so fast? Duh. Demon speed. “Why isn’t She doing anything?”
“Kanna does what she deems is best. Usually when blood is drawn she’ll put a stop to it…”
Kagome ducked further beneath the table and heard that deep chuckle follow as Kagura crashed along the topside. “You think this is funny?”
Inuyasha chuckled again. “No, but I am amused.” Of course Kagome wouldn’t understand. Humans just didn’t understand the humor of Demons. He placed a hand on her back and pushed her further under the table and towards the front. “You’ve got to be more careful. You’ll learn soon enough to move and when not to. When to move should have been when Kagura touched her hair.” He’d warned her things could get a little violent in Demon Court.
“I should never have agreed to Mate you, you lowly Demon.” Sesshomaru’s table flipped as he tossed it sideways and stalked towards the Wind Demon. She’d just insulted Him.
“Ugh, he’s not going to kill her, is he?” Kagome whispered.
“Nah.” At least, Inuyasha hoped not. The floor was too pristine for blood.
“Move it.” Kagome felt the pressure on her back increase and crawled out from beneath the table, opposite of the two opposing figures. On her hands and knees, the delicate chain around her neck fell forward and the round Jewel slid from the closure of her shirt.
She could hear the instant silence that tore through the room.
“Shit.” That was the only thing she heard, in Inuyasha’s voice, before everything—everyone—seemed to explode into action. She wasn’t sure what happened. Not until the room erupted in chaos.
“This is why Humans aren’t allowed in the Court.” She heard someone hiss.
“..you’d allow a PRIESTESS in Here?!”
A towering boar Demon stalked her across the room, his long legs eating up the space. No, he was moving fast. And his eyes were fastened on the Jewel. Oh, no. Oh, no no…
“Back off.” Inuyasha snarled, his foot landing a solid kick against the boar Demons chest and sending him flying. He turned, the look in his eyes hard—and something else. “Put that thing away.” He snapped out. Kagome rose up on her knees, her hand going towards the Jewel dangling. Something tight fisted in her hair and jerked her back. She gasped as she lost her balance, hitting the marbled floor hard on her back. The ceiling moved overhead as she reached her hands up, coming in contact with the hands fisted there, dragging her across the room. Another unfamiliar hand snaked out just as the room came out to a halt, curling around the Jewel.
Kagome could feel the instant hostility circling the Jewel, the darkness that was pushing to the surface. Her chest hurt where the Jewel was suspended above her and her vision was tunneling. She couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t think, couldn’t feel anything but that file, repulsive—
“Let go, you bastard.” Inuyasha’s voice tore through the darkness, a deep guttural growl. She heard the sound of a fist connecting with flesh and then the Jewel fell against her flesh again. She blinked as everything came into focus. She could hear shouts in the distance. The entire Court Room was in chaos. She rolled over as she saw Inuyasha slam some Demons head down onto the ground and then he was kneeling over her. She felt him grip the edges of her shirt and fold the edges over the Jewel, hiding it from the world.
“You alright?” His voice was gruff.
“Yea, I think so—“
“Dismissed.”
The word echoed through the room, falling like a sledgehammer on every single living entity in the room. Kanna’s voice was void of any emotion but the power of it, the one word, fell on every ear.
It was like something sapped the very strength from her body. Kagome couldn’t describe it any other way. Her body was like lead as she sank to the floor. She felt Inuyasha collapse, following her movement, his body a heavy weight over hers. She heard his groan against his ear, as if annoyed with what had just happened. And then strength returned, flowing through every muscle.
She braced her hands against Inuyasha’s chest, pushing him off her before he applied. “What was that?”
“That was Kanna’s way of telling everyone ‘enough was enough’.” Inuyasha muttered. He hated when that happened. He hated when she couldn’t just focus that on the people causing the trouble. No, she sent out that punishment on everyone in the Court Room. Everyone felt that body numbing sensation that ceased all movement.
“You will not bring the Shikon No Tama, Kagome Hirgurashi. You will come as you are.” Kanna spoke directly to Kagome, that same inflection—no emotion.
Well, he’d gotten one thing out of it. Kagome’s body was definitely as soft—and plump—as it looked.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Kagome was not happy. Her first day in Demon Court had not gone well. Not at all. The Court Date had been set to continue in two days. If what had happened today in Court had happened in a Human Court, some people would have been put behind bars. Or tasered into submission. But no, here, they were allowed to argue and fight it out. Then there bodies were forced into a lead like submission until everyone understood, “Enough was enough.”She was not happy with Kagura. The Wind Demon needed to learn to keep her cool. It wasn’t that hard. All she’d had to do was sit there and let the Judge handle everything while she and Inuyasha gave their cases. But no, that Demon had to go and throw a damned feather at her soon to be ex-husband.
“Hey—“
No, Sesshomaru had to go and toss a table across the room.
“Hey!”
They couldn’t act like civilized humans.
“Wait, dammit—“
And that damned mirror—Inuyasha. She could feel the blush rising, heating her cheeks.
“Dammit, Kagome, would you just hold up—“
She gasped as a hand grabbed her arm from behind, pulling her to a halt. She spun around, her hand curling into a fist and swung.
Inuyasha caught her fist in midair. “Whoa, you don’t have to hit me.” He didn’t peg Kagome as the type to punch. “You high-tailed it out of there before I could stop you—“
“Yea.” Kagome braced her hand over her pounding heart. He’d scared the hell out of her. She hadn’t heard or even sensed him coming. Her mind had been on the chaos that had taken place in the Court Room. The Jewel, Sesshomaru and Kagura. Inuyasha. She tugged her hand from his grip and saw the look on his face. “I’m fine.” She answered before he could even voice the question.
“Not what you were expecting, eh?”
“Not exactly.” Honestly, she hadn’t been expecting that. Why had she expected it to be like a Human Court? With Kanna, the ‘allowed’ fighting and then the control Kanna could hold over the entire room. “No.”
She had guts. Kagome, she had courage. Not a lot of humans could go through what she had and come out of it without losing her head. She’d held her cool. He’d have hugged her if he didn’t think she’d purify his ass. He ran his clawed hand through his hair. She was quiet. Too quiet. And fuck, he knew what she was thinking. He knew what she was thinking about. How was he supposed to respond to that? Sex had never been a hard subject for him, other than his dick. Where his Mate was concerned, he’d always imagined that when he found her, things would come natural. She’d know. She’d be all over him in an instant.
She’d be Demon.
His Mate was one hell of a Priestess. And some bastard had almost pushed her into a darkness that her Spirit couldn’t take.
Kagome lifted her head, frowning at the growl that erupted from his throat. She stopped, turned. “Hey, are you alright?”
“Perfect.” He had every reason to be frustrated. SHE just didn’t know it. It wasn’t easy watching someone attack your Mate; cause them pain. It wasn’t easy knowing while she didn’t. It wasn’t easy not being able to do so many things…
It wasn’t easy to watch her walk away.
Dammit, he wanted to tell her. His Demon instincts told him she wouldn’t react kindly to that. He wasn’t a dumb ass. He had to walk a fine line here…and he was almost tipping over the edge.
“Inuyasha, what’s wrong?”
He snapped his golden eyes down to her. “Nothing.”
No shit. Kagome could feel the irritation coming off him in waves. That was just another perk of being a Priestess. At least those vibrations weren’t repulsive. Some Demon’s she couldn’t stand to be around. Some were just evil. Evil and her didn’t mix. He sighed and ran a hand through those silver locks. “Look—“
She shook her head, her eyes narrowing. “No.” She cut him off. She really didn’t want to hear about that. She didn’t need to hear about that. She was trying her best to forget about what she’d seen in the mirror. That scene had been hot. The muscles in his lower back flexing as he thrusts—“Don’t say it.” She warned.
He didn’t say anything. Instead he took a step forward, forcing her to take another back, and another. The look that crossed his face was aggressive but not towards her. He was frustrated. He looked a little pissed. He lifted his arms, placing his hands against the brick wall on either side of her. Effectively caging her in. She felt the ice cold breeze that twisted her hair around her neck but she didn’t feel the cold.
“Dammit, woman…”
“Inuyasha…“ Kagome started, frowning. What was he doing? What did he think he was doing? How come you never noticed how tall someone was until they were towering over you? She’d never even noticed how pale his eyes were until now, when they were up close. A pale, golden color. Those were definitely fangs peeking out from his lips when he gave a silent snarl, barely even that. She couldn’t help it. Her heart turned over; what was wrong? Red rimmed his eyes; she wanted to help…until he spoke.
“Dammit woman, you’re my Mate.”
“I’m you’re WHAT?”
