Chapter 6

When they got back to the house, Kagome's mother insisted on feeding them since Kagome hadn't really eaten. The meal was one of Inuyasha's favorites, Ramen.  The half-demon and girl spent a quiet night together watching TV. Inuyasha sat with his arm draped over Kagome as she pillowed her head in his lap.

`This is nice,' Kagome thought as she slipped into a comfortable sleep.

Inuyasha took a deep breath, `she's asleep.' He looked down at her, `she looks so peaceful. Why does this feel so right?'

He didn't realize how long he had stared at her until he reached up to scratch his head and he noticed that his ears were gone. Gently he woke Kagome.

“We should go to bed,” he said softly caressing her cheek.

“Yeah,” Kagome yawned, “we have to get up early.”

They walked quietly up to her bedroom. On the way up the stairs, Kagome slipped. Instinctively, Inuyasha caught her. She looked up into his dark brown eyes.

`He's gorgeous,' she thought.

`She's so light,' he thought.

`I could stare at him for hours.'

`Can't stay here for ever,' Inuyasha thought as he swung her legs up and carried her the rest of the way to her bedroom. When he got there, he dropped her on the bed.

“Well, I should go to your brother's …”

“Inuyasha, would you like to stay with me tonight?”

The half-demon looked at her and blinked in confusion, “what would your family say?”

“I don't know and right now I don't care. We'll deal with that in the morning. I just want to be in your arms.”

Inuyasha waited, careful not to think about Kagome and failing. He remembered every curve and shape of her body from earlier in the day. Did he want her again?

When she returned from the bathroom in her nightgown, Inuyasha eased himself under her sheets and snuggled close to her. He wouldn't admit it to himself, but he was happy with her.

The pair had settled into a comfortable sleep when Kagome's mother stuck her head in to check on them. She smiled; they really were a cute couple. She hoped that Inuyasha would become her son-in-law; he was good for Kagome. Though the doctors may wonder if her grandchildren inherited his ears. Inuyasha's nose twitched and he snuggled closer to Kagome. They could be very happy together.

Mrs. Higurashi shut the door and went to her own bed.
